He doesn't speak. He growls. And when he looks at me, I forget Earth ever existed.
Lyra One minute I was photographing wildflowers. The next, I woke up in a cage lightyears from Earth—barely clothed, definitely for sale, and completely screwed. Until he tore the doors off my prison.
Solear isn’t human. Not really. He doesn’t talk. He stalks. Moves like a predator, fights like a weapon, and watches me like I’m his next obsession. I should be afraid of him… but when he lays his rough hands on me, fear is the last thing I feel.
Now I’m on the run with a beast of a man who doesn’t speak, doesn’t trust, and definitely doesn’t know how to be gentle. But I see the fracture lines under the fury. And I want him anyway.
Solear I came for data. Revenge. Not her. Never her.
Soft and stubborn, she smells like earth after rain. I tried to leave her. I can’t. There’s a storm under her skin that calls to the chaos in mine. I don't understand it. I just know no one touches her but me.
She doesn’t flinch when I get too close. Doesn’t run when she sees what I am. She reaches. And stars help me, I reach back.
She’s mine now, and I’ll chase her, or her enemies, to the ends of the galaxy.
Robin O’Connor is an author who loves to write about strong, alien heroes and quirky heroines. She lives with her husband and son along with a couple hundred books (hers, definitely hers) and probably just as many computer parts (her husband’s). Her house therefore probably resembles something like a mad-scientist’s lab on any given day.
She’s always working on at least a half dozen projects at the same time but is never without time to answer questions, write up funny extras or hang out in her group online to speak with her readers.
I’ve been waiting for Solear’s book like a kid waits for the ice cream truck. He’s been one of my favorites in the series from the very beginning—grumpy, stoic, fiercely loyal to his twin and to Captain Asmoded, and absolutely wrapped in emotional barbed wire. The guy barely speaks and still manages to steal scenes. Impressive.
What I loved most here was finally seeing behind those walls. I’ve always wondered how anyone could get close to him, or why they’d even try. But the relationship we get in this story doesn’t rush him, doesn’t force him—it slowly chips away at those defenses and lets the real Solear show through. It’s tender, awkward, intense, and honestly kind of adorable watching a deadly alien mercenary fumble his way through connection.
The action and world-building still bring that signature O’Connor spice (and yes, the other kind of spice is in there too 👀), but it’s the emotional payoff that makes this one stand out. Solear isn’t just a side mystery anymore—he finally gets the spotlight, and it fits him perfectly.
Highly recommend for anyone who loves grumpy, loyal, “I’ll die for you but don’t hug me—okay maybe hug me” types. 🐺💙
Human photographer Lyra is abducted from the Alpha Quadrant and transported by pig-like bipedal creatures called Krektar who are tasked with delivering her to a Xurtal trafficker for his amusement. While awaiting her fate in a dank, filthy cell after futilely fighting her captors, a group of beings from the rogue ship Varakartoom raid the compound in search of the whereabouts of another Xurtal criminal they’ve been pursuing. Solear, twin Asrai brother to Aramon recognizes Lyra as his fated mate, and stays behind to retrieve the data they seek despite the threats remaining. While initially he feels unworthy of this fiercely loyal human due to the terr!ble things he’s endured, he eventually decides he’s going to keep this gift he’s received.
Once again Robin O’Connor has written a beautiful love story featuring a damaged yet swoon worthy alien MMC and a kind, thoughtful, and scrappy human FMC. It all takes place against a backdrop of hierarchy and intrigue with larger pieces of the prior books’ storylines woven in.
I was fortunate to have received an advance reader copy from the author and booksprout, and I’m sharing my honest review.
I loved this story. While really dark, bloody, and scary, it also showed possibilities, hope, and abilities. We learn that not all individuals want to be surrounded by others all the time. These are two like souls who find each other most darkly. They exit with light and love but the path is so varied and challenging that it keeps the reader hooked. It was nice to read updates on the rest of the Varakartoom crew we've met.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
She uses her camera to disguise her loneliness, while he uses his plan for vengeance to hide his.
Lyra writes a popular travel column and had just returned from a trip to Colony Planet 12 and its primitive inhabitants. She turned in a column about the blue monkeys that live there. That wasn't the story her boss, Mr. Bradford, wanted. He wanted a spicy story. He wanted confirmation of the rumors of sentient beings and that women were being kidnapped and perhaps being forced to mate.
As a columnist, she couldn't resist reporting the truth and had written an article that confirmed the kidnappings. She was warned not to publish it or she'd be killed. As a result, she hadn't turned it in. But when threatened with termination of her job, she gave it to him.
The next morning, he was found dead at his desk of an apparent suicide. She'd like to run, but there's no safe place within the UAR. The United Alliance of Races is in control of the Alpha Quadrant, where Earth is located. It is smuggling out humans to sell in the Zeta Quadrant to fund their war efforts.
She wakes up in a stasis pod. She'd been hunted down by what she believes is the UAR’s supposedly non-existent Shadow Unit. God knows what they plan to do to her... She's been sold to Jalima, a major crime lord.
Solear is a member of the Asrai, a telepathic race, especially between siblings. He's the feral, nonverbal twin of Aramon, the ship's pilot. On the Varakartoom Solear is the navigator and is loyal only to the ship's Captain Asmoded and his brother. He has an implant that allows him to hook up to the ship and use his brain to speed up navigational calculations. He's happiest when plugged into a nav console where he's free to go anywhere he desires.
He's been having a difficult time adjusting to Aramon finding his mate, a human named Evie, and having less time to spend with him. He's certain that he'll never find a mate, but Aramon assures him that she's out there waiting for him to find her. He's made a new friend with crewmate Tass since his brother has mated. He's not certain that Tass likes being around him, but Solear hates being alone. Tass carries a small leafy green vine with pink flowers named Nelly on his shoulder. Solear just isn't sure how to deal with something as small and fragile as Nelly. . As a twelve-year-old, there had been an attack by the crime lord Jalima. Solear had been trapped alone under rubble for twenty-one days, long enough to break him. Now he's trapped in a Catch-22 problem; he craves being around others, but doing so makes him very uncomfortable. His brother is the only one he truly feels comfortable being with, and maybe the Captain.
When he meets Lyra, there's something special about her. He's drawn to her, and it doesn't take long for him to discover that she's his mate. For her, he can speak aloud, but mostly just a word or two. When he learns he can telepathically communicate with her, he's certain she's his mate.
But an associate of Jalima wants her, too. Since he wears a jewel that alters his appearance to others, he's accepted by others. But Lyra has seen what he can do, as his punishments had harmed her when she had been kidnapped. Solear also recognizes him for what he truly is.
Solear has learned that Lyra is the most important thing in his life, even more so than his brother or any crimelord. He felt that he let her down once, but he vows it will never happen again. But the odds of getting her safely aboard the Varakartoom seem to be decreasing.
I received an ARC of this book from the author via Booksprout. I am voluntarily leaving this review.
I really enjoyed this newest addition to the Monster Mercenary Mates series and getting to know Solear better as well as his human mate Lyra. These two were an interesting couple and I was happy to see Solear find someone who accepted him for who he was while helping him heal from his past. I look forward to reading the next book in this series and am curious to learn more about the Sineater.
Short and fast-paced. This wasn't an overly complicated read. I have not read the previous books in the series, and truthfully you don't need to. I am sure it would provide you with a decent amount of world-building if you did. You can glean enough from this book to understand the basics of the universe the characters reside in however.
I appreciate that the FMC describes the MMC as ghoulish-looking. Even after she comes to know him more she still expresses that his looks are ghoulish yet handsome. I like my aliens, robots, and monsters to be unconventionally attractive. So this kinda tickled me.
As said the story is pretty fast paced. You keep rolling along and the FMC/MMC connect rather quickly. I will admit it lost my interest about 160 pages in. However, once I sat down to read it again I enjoyed the remainder. There's just somewhat of a lull in relationship building and a bit more action geared toward plot advancement. I would love to see art of Solear, the MMC, and all of his coworkers. They seem interesting looking based on descriptions. I'm definitely keeping an eye out for a book about a certain crewmate who doesn't seem to have a mate yet.👀
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
wonderful story where solear finally finds his mate. solear suffered a horrific trauma as a young child and has closed off his ability to speak out loud. this leaves him very lonely with only his twin to speak to telepathically but his twin now has a mate to focus on leaving solear even more alone. he also suffers ptsd extreme anxiety and feelings of rage which he finds hard to control. during a mission things go wrong right away and solear smells something he must find. he finds lyra a human captive as while trying to get to her is knocked out and put into her cell. right away he knows she's his mate but humans don't feel mate bonds and she's terrified of him due to his growling and appearance. however he protects her at every turn. the story tells how they escape, the many ways he cares for and protects lyra all while they can't communicate and she learns he's taking care of her and she doesn't need to fear him. the journey back to rejoin their crew and all the danger and excitement along the way.
lyra is in her own way as damaged and alone as solear so they make a great couple and her soft tender accepting heart allows her to accept they are mates when she finds out by accident. I received an arc copy from book sirens and this is my honest voluntary review.
Chased by the Alien Mercenary by Robin O’Connor Monster Mercenary Mates #6
Mercenaries of the Varakartoom spaceship are slowly meeting and falling in love with their mates. This story sees Solear, an Asrai twin with telepathic abilities and death mask markings, in love with much smaller human Lyra.
What I Liked: * Lyra: human, photographic journalist, resilient, plucky, sold by her government, slave fearing a fate worse than death, saved by her soon-to-be-mate Solear * Solear: Asrai, twin, suffered severe trauma when twelve, skittish, protective, hair trigger, lethal, knows what he wants and he wants his mate Lyra * Returning to this alien world filled with a variety of races that work as “brothers” and mercenaries as they travel through galaxies and eventually meet their mates * The world building and being able to visualize what the planet looks like * Wondering if any of the slaves met by Lyra, though standoffish, might appear in future books * The plot, pacing, setting, and writing * Watching the relationship between Lyra and Solear develop * The interaction between Solear and his twin Aramon * The acceptance of Lyra by the other human females on the Varakartoom and catching up with some of the characters from previous books * Tass: friend of Solear’s, affinity to plants, has a tiny flower girl child that also is interested in Solear and his mate * Knowing that the next book will be Sineater’s turn and eagerly waiting to find out how his story will play out * All of it really except…
What I didn’t Like: * Who and what I was meant not to like * Thinking about the UAR’s willingness to sell its human citizens to make money * How corrupt and cruel more than one character was – especially the Xurtal named Heliosor – so glad he got what he deserved and wonder if Jalima will, too, someday. * Thinking about how horrible the trauma experienced by Solear was when he was twelve.
Did I like this book? Yes Would I read more by this author? Definitely
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review
He was never meant to love. She was never meant to survive. But fate has other plans.
Lyra (h) was a journalist, not a rebel. Until she uncovered a truth so dangerous, it cost her freedom. Captured, collared, and sold to a galactic crimelord, she’s left fighting to hold onto what little remains of herself. Until the silent alien mercenary tears through her prison and takes her with him... but not for ransom or reward.
Solear (H), a feared Asrai navigator, is brutal in combat and silent by choice. Broken long ago, he’s lived in shadows, loyal only to his twin and his ship. But when he finds her, something stirs. She’s not a mission. She’s his. His mate. And nothing will take her from him.
What begins in fear turns into something neither expected. As Lyra pushes for freedom and Solear struggles to express a lifetime of pain, the walls between them crack. Slowly, trust builds. She speaks the words he cannot. He protects the heart she no longer thought she had.
Together, they face storms, betrayal, and pasts that tried to destroy them. Through it all, they choose each other. Not with promises. Not with perfection. But with actions, devotion, and a quiet love that demands nothing and gives everything.
Lyra and Solear evolve from emotionally isolated individuals into more open and self-aware partners. Lyra regains her sense of agency and trust. Solear learns to communicate and confront his trauma. Their relationship grows from fear and confusion to a deep bond built on respect, support, and unconditional loyalty.
A steamy alien, fated mates, sci fi romance, exploring love, connection, trauma recovery, trust, bonding, identity, self-worth, family, survival, power dynamics, and resilience. It's about survival, scars, and healing. Learning to trust when the world says not to. A love that doesn’t speak in grand declarations, but in steady presence and fierce protection.
This isn’t just a sci-fi romance. This is a wreck-you-in-the-best-way, heart-in-your-throat, soul-slowly-stitching-back-together kind of story.
Lyra was never meant to end up here—collared, caged, sold like she’s nothing more than property. She was just doing her job. A journalist chasing a lead. But when the truth she uncovered became too dangerous, her whole life imploded. And honestly? You feel every ounce of her fear, her anger, her refusal to fully break. She’s battered, but she’s still fighting—still her underneath it all.
Then Solear enters.
Not with soft hands or sweet words, but with fury. Silent, deadly, cold. A ghost of a warrior who’s forgotten how to be anything but a weapon. He tears through the prison to get to her—and no, not to hurt her, not even to bargain for her. He takes her because something in his blood knows. She’s not a mission. She’s his.
And it wrecks him.
Robin O’Connor has this incredible way of writing two people who are so emotionally shut down that their connection feels like watching stars collide—violent, breathtaking, and full of aching possibility. What begins in fear slowly turns into a bond that is raw, patient, and unshakably real.
Lyra fights for her freedom, for her voice. Solear fights for her safety, even when he can’t say the words. She teaches him how to feel again; he reminds her she’s not broken beyond repair.
This isn’t a love story wrapped in perfect bows. It’s love built on scars, silence, survival—and the slow-burning realization that they’re stronger together. The trust doesn’t come easy, the healing isn’t pretty, but every step feels earned. And when they finally let each other in? It’s nothing short of stunning.
If you’re into fierce, silent alien warriors, heroines who refuse to stay down, and a slow-burn, trauma-informed love story that turns survival into sanctuary—Chased by the Alien Mercenary will stay with you long after the final page.
Chased by the Alien Mercenary is book 6 in the Monster Mercenary Mates series and oh how I’ve wanted to know more about Solear, the scary, growly twin with the razor sharp teeth and no voice. You certainly could read this as a standalone book but you will be missing out on so much excitement if you don’t start from the beginning of the series!
Chased by the Alien Mercenary is full of dangerous deeds, thrilling drama, supportive family and friends and a ton of spice. As always with a Robin O’Connor book it is well written, original and even though there is an individual HEA for this couple there is an overall series plot that always makes me want to read the next book and I cannot wait for another!
If you want more from the creative mind of Robin O’Connor and an exciting binge read with all things alien and dangerous, including dominate but unstable Heroes and their tenacious and courageous Human Heroines, this would be my reading order recommendation. 1. Prequel novella, Gladiator’s Sanctuary, I got this via Robin’s website. 2. The Gladiators of the Vagabond series; read in order. 3. Two holiday themed novellas; There’s An Alien Down My Chimney and There’s An Elf In My Cockpit. 4. Taken by the Gargoyle King; a novella related to the Gladiators series. 5. The Naga Hunter’s Lost Mate; prequel to the Serpents of Serant series, I got this on Robin’s website too. 6. The Serpents of Serant series; read in order. 7. Protected by the Alien Mercenary; is part of the My Monster, My Protector series but feels like an introduction to Robin’s Monster Mercenary Mates series. 8. The Monster Mercenary Mates series; read in order!
I’ve been (im)patiently waiting for Solear’s story, and I’m thrilled to say—it was worth the wait. This one grabbed me from the start and didn’t let go.
Solear is everything I hoped for: a fierce, silent protector with claws, scars, and a wounded soul. He’s wild, a little feral, and absolutely relentless in guarding (and providing for) what’s his. The way he protects his mate—diving into danger, tearing her captors apart, shielding her body with his own even while getting shot and shocked—makes it clear: this male will burn the world down to keep her safe.
The heroine is no pushover either. She’s independent and strong, but she’s also smart enough to recognize what Solear is offering—safety, protection, and devotion. She’s terrified at first (understandably), but once she sees his actions, she realizes she doesn’t want to run. She wants to be rescued. And more than that—she wants him.
The chemistry is intense, the spice is high—definitely 18+ territory—and the emotional connection runs just as deep. If you love tropes like fated mates, grumpy/sunshine, alien savior, and forced proximity, this one delivers all of them wrapped in action, steam, and emotional payoff.
No cliffhangers here—just a satisfying, hard-won happy ending that leaves you craving the next story. And with the hint at who’s coming next (Sineater, anyone?!), I’m already counting down. If you’re into gritty, protective aliens, fast-paced action, and steamy sci-fi romance, this series continues to hit all the right notes. Highly recommend.
I received a free copy from the author and am voluntarily sharing my honest opinion.
I’ve waited forever for Solear to get his own spotlight—and wow, did Chased by Alien Mercenary deliver!
✨️Solear’s POV? Chef’s kiss. Getting inside his head was everything I hoped for. It was heartbreaking how sad and lonely he was. The method he used to tell Lyra his name was an absolute top-tier! 🤭🍒—Robin wrote that scene like it was meant to live rent-free in my mind. Solear was hot, broody, and mysterious in the best way.
✨️Lyra is a powerhouse. She’s sharp, fearless, and the perfect match for Solear. Robin didn’t just pair them well—she engineered a dynamic duo that sparks in every scene. I’ve been rooting for Solear to find his own happily ever after, and Lyra was the missing piece. I love how they compliment each other.
✨️ Action-packed but never chaotic. There’s a lot going on—mercenaries, secret missions—but it’s all woven together so smoothly. I was never lost, just fully immersed. The pacing is tight, the stakes are high, and the emotional beats hit just right.
👾New friends, new beginnings. I loved seeing Solear find new friendships, especially to little Nelly. The Varakartoom team is growing, and it feels like the start of something epic, like maybe taking down the villaine of all villaine?!. Solear and Lyra’s journey is just beginning. The ending wasn’t just satisfying—it was a launchpad for even more adventure, especially for the next broody man that's about to get his own happy ever after, too, and I’m so here for it.
Robin gave me everything—romance, action, heart, and a hero who finally got the love and friendship he deserves.

Independent reviewer for BookSirens, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book 6 in the Monster Mercenary Mates series, and you really should read probably read the previous books before this one. Or at LEAST Bethrothed To The Alien Mercenary, which is Solear's twin brother, Aramon's book. But I think you will get the best enjoyment of this book if you read all the other books. Solear is a character in those books and he is very different here.
I really wanted to love this book, but I honestly cannot figure out why I didn't!
I really REALLY liked all the others, still waiting for that 5 star read but they were all 4 solid stars. But this one just didn't hit the mark and it really pains me to say so!
Both Solear and Lyra get a say, so that was good. I enjoyed getting deep into Solear's mind. He really was a scary beast in the previous books but here we get the WHY he is like that and he really isn't scary, as much as SCARED.
Given as they spend most of the book alone, the rest of the crew from the Varakatoom don't play much part, but once Solear and Lyra get to the ship, they are all there.
While I think it was a good book, it just didn't push my buttons the way the others did.
BUT
One line, one single line stands out. Something Solear thinks, as he walks away from the Sineater: What if. . . what if the Sineater was as lonely as I had once been?
Lyra couldn't help but bring attention to the plight of abducted colonists. Her photos bring it all to life. The exposure however put her right in the cross hairs of those responsible. Next thing you know she is one of the abducted herself. Now Lyra sits, waiting in the filthy disgusting cell, fearing the atrocities she knows will come. Enter Solear, a mercenary with a heart of gold that cries out to be loved. The Varakartooms mercenery crew came to gain info on a nasty crimelord but when Solear catches a scent in the air, he can't help himself. He must find the source. Lyra is the source. His fated mate. He isn't sure he deserves her but he is sure of one thing. He will keep her safe no matter the cost. Lyra acknowledges to herself how feral and dangerous her hero looks, but she isn't afraid. There is more to him. Maybe he can't talk but she is determined to peel back his shell and truly understand the heart he guards. Besides he seems determined to keep her safe and she is drawn to him like no other ever. Such a bond teaches us the important things. Solear realizes that vengence is not the most important thing...keeping Lyra safe that is the most important. Buckle in and take the mind blowing ride with Solear and Lyra as they navigate their way out of danger and into one anothers hearts.
Chased by the Alien Mercenary is the sixth book of the Monster Mercenary Mates series and tells the story of Lyra and Solear. Lyra’s investigation into colonist abductions on planet 12 has brought her to the attention of the UAR shadow unit, and not in a good way. Taken by them and sold off as a slave then thrown into a dank cell after trying to fight off her new owner she clings to a small hope of gaining freedom. Her salvation comes in the form of predator mercenary Solear from the ship Varakartoom who along with his brother Aramon and other crewmates have just laid siege to the compound of crime lord Jalima where she is prisoner. After Lyra’s scent hits Solear he lays out a bloodbath reaching her and ends up wounded and caged along with her. This was an excellent sci-fi romance and I enjoyed the writing, characterizations, personal vulnerabilities, action, adventure, intrigue, and passion that flowed through an immersive and hard to put down read that brought together two very fated mates. HEA.

I loved this story so much. If you are looking for a story with any of the following characteristics, then this is for you!
Damsel-in-distress, fierce MMC protector who is a sweet cinnamonroll, steamy scenes, and fated mates. And much much more!
Lyra is a human who has a huge passion for photography that leads her to her worse decision as of yet. However, at the same time this decision potentially gets her closer to her happily ever after… if she can stand strong, be patient and maybe be prepared to run.
Solear is an alien who has some trauma of the past that makes him more aggressive, defensive, and lonely even when in a room filled with others. However, this all changes on his latest mission when a certain smell chances his attention and he literally goes berserk. Who would of thought happiness could just fall into your hands.
These two are in for a world of tough fights, self-discovery, new passions, high stakes, and second chances. This story will take you on an amazing adventure wishing for more! I highly recommend this.

Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ (3/5 – slow-burn tension with feral energy and emotional intimacy) Solear was traumatized by his past, leaving him nearly speechless. Communication was difficult for him, with the sole exception of the bond he shared with his twin. But that bond changed when his twin took his mate, leaving Solear more alone than he had ever been. Trying to find his place again, Solear began making efforts to befriend others aboard the ship—until the latest mission changed everything. In the middle of the fight, driven by vengeance and duty, something pulled him away. He didn’t understand what drew him from the battle. Until he spotted her. Lyra had been kidnapped from the Alpha Quadrant and thrown among species she didn’t recognize. She knew immediately she was in danger. Uncomfortable around others, she survived by retreating behind her camera, isolating herself from the world around her. Then he was thrown into her cell. A feral alien mercenary—silent, scarred, and dangerous—who, for reasons she didn’t understand, did nothing but protect her. Disclaimer: I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I’m so glad this book is finally out! The glimpses of Solear in the other books and especially Aramon’s, were such teases to the depth I knew existed in him.
Lyra and her adventurous spirit was the perfect “other side of the coin” to Solear. The definition of same person, different font with their personalities and how they interacted with the world.
It was touching to be able to understand why solear is the way he is. Loved how the story unfolded with so little dialogue but SO MUCH feeling and how Solear showed Lyra his intentions and truths through actions and gifts and Lyras understanding of what they meant. The spicy moments were well worth it!
Also loved the little cameos with Nelly and the unrequited anger Solear felt towards her curiosity and shy friendship-although it was absolutely delightful when he figured it out.
You know it’s a good story when you wish it was longer! I cannot wait to learn more about Sineater and his story in the next book!.

I have never been disappointed in anything I've read by Robin O'Connor, and this book was my favorite in the series so far!!! I've always had a weakness for the characters with tortured souls and inner conflict. So needless to say, I have been eagerly awaiting this book since the first introduction of Solear. His and Lyras' story was 100% worth the wait! Lyra is so beautifully everything Solear never believed he could have.
Solear has watched as each of his fellow crew members found their mates. his own twin was able to find love. and even though Solear has wanted to be loved. to be accepted. to never feel "alone" again, he knows in his heart it can't be. He has been broken for far too long. He knows that no one can "fix" him. but with Lyra, Solear is about to learn a valuable lesson. love doesn't have to "fix" you... it values and understands every broken piece just the way you are and helps you move forward, broken pieces, and all.
Can I give it 10 stars???? I freaking love this series!!!! While you could read this as a stand-alone you will definitely get more out of it if you read the others first. I think this was my favorite of the series so far though. Solear is so lonely, and near feral, non verbal, traumatized. But he has his telepathic link with his twin…And that has been enough…. …. Until he smells…. His mate???? Woah!!!! This book is filled with so much action, twists and turns, romance and super passionate sexy times!!!! The story itself is awesome!!!! It’s a perfect marriage of a space adventure and a romance. The pacing is perfect! I cannot wait for the next one. I think what I loved most about this was Lyra’s quick and free empathy and understanding for Solear, even though he could only communicate with growls, grunts, gestures and actions for quite a while. Robin did such an amazing job building their connection without traditional language, it was breathtaking!.

YAY! I had been *waiting* for this story because I wanted to see Solear, the male alien lead with a disability, get his happy ending! I really appreciate that finding his female human mate, Lyra, did not miraculously heal him, though it did ease some of his symptoms. This story is dual POV, fantastically written and well edited, and a fast-paced, action focused, steamy, sci fi romance. I adored Solear’s absolute focus on caring for Lyra and the effort he made ensuring her needs were met, even as it challenged his previous limits. I enjoyed Lyra’s willingness to engage with novel and somewhat terrifying experiences. I enjoyed her resilience and determination to take opportunities to escape slavery when they arose. I enjoyed the building intimate relationship. I enjoyed the support provided by Solear’s ship community and the way Lyra was folded into their relationships. I enjoyed the ongoing non-romance plot and am waiting on tenterhooks for the next book!
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
I have been waiting for forever to read this book. There was something about Solear that captured my attention. I loved the dynamics of this character he just draws you in even if your reading about him in passing. Everything about him is complex and hidden and it takes a strong mate to draw this man out of his walls that he has built around himself. I loved every single growl and grunt from him. Lyra is a strong woman and has already been through so much and she is strong enough to stand next to this man who was thrown into her cell and they have to work together while fighting this feeling that draws them both to each other. The way these two came together was so sweet and kept me on the edge of my seat to see where this new adventure would take me. I loved every single moment of this book and so know this will be one that I read more than once. This is a definite must read!!!!
I enjoyed it. I loved how unique Solear was. I was pleasantly surprised that love didn't automatically make everything all better. It definitely helped but it wasn't as if a magic wand was waved and there were no more issues. I liked Lyra as well. At some points I felt she took things in stride to the point that I felt she lacked agency but for those moments there were many others where that wasn't the case and the seriousness of the situation was apparent. The two make a great couple.
Although this can technically be read as a standalone I do recommend reading the other books in the series first as they help tie things together. Still, I liked it despite making the choice to pick this one up first. The author even provides an appendix in case you want more information or it's been awhile and you need a refresher which I thought was a great touch.

Solear has been the silent twin that everyone knows but doesn’t know how to be his friend. Lyra has been abducted and sold she’s not about to allow anyone to abuse her but her fight cost her and she’s was forced into a cell to await her punishment. Solear is on a mission when he senses his mate. He sets out to save her getting captured in the process. Lyra initially was afraid of him until she realized he wasn’t there to hurt her but protect and save her. This is the book I have been waiting for!!! Solear gets his girl and becomes the hero. I loved this tale. Solear has been this menacing figure in the previous books but learning his story beyond the teases we got in his brother’s book was amazing!!! Loved them and their HEA. So excited for what comes next!! This series keeps getting better and better.

I really loved this book. It's full of exciting action, suspense, romance and steam. With that and the excellent world building and writing, I couldn't put the book down. The two lonely, likeable MCs fit well together. Lyra is a human who was a photographer in the Alpha quadrant, but now finds herself sold as a slave in the Zeta quadrant. Solear is a mute mercenary with the Varakartoom; he had come across as a very scary guy in previous books, but now we know his background and it explains a lot. When he found Lyra, his happiness was palpable, and I found myself rooting for their successful relationship and their HEA. Solear is so attentive and protective, Lyra doesn't have to worry about a thing. The author makes a convincing case for how a woman could fall for this intimidating creature. I'm curious to see how she'll handle the Sineater's story next. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
“Seeking a connection with someone, but never daring to expose myself for it.”
Solear is territorial as hell and I’m here for it. And the way he tells Lyra his name!! No spoilers, but hot damn. Sign me up for a skull faced Asrai in my abduction. I know Sineater is next for a mate, but I’m looking forward to gentle Dr Dravion and his mysterious third eye. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

It was good. Solear is an interesting character and it was fascinating. I wish we were in his head more. I liked Lyra, she knew and accepted that she wasn't a warrior, and that she needed help, and even though it was difficult for her as an independent woman, she didn't do stupid things and left the decision making to Solear, because he had more experience than her and therefore knew better. I just wish we had more time inside his head, I really liked him. And I think there should have been more about his trauma and emotional turmoil, because, even though his healing technically began since Betrothed to the Alien Mercenary, we weren't privy to it. I like characters like him a lot. Waiting for Sin’s story, and Thatcher’s, though for some reason I started to ship him with Dravion. Oh, well. We'll see. Solear is all I've waited and so much more! So incredibly good,an excelent addiction to this rich, complex and utterly addictive series. Solear ,the unhinged Asrai navigator, feral in combat and mute by the traumas that left him broken and living in darkness. Fiercely loyal solely to his twin and the Varakartoom mercenaries. Something clicks when he meets Lyra , not a mission, mate! These two have a hard path ahead where he learns to communicate and confront his trauma and Lyra learns to trust. The chemistry between them is explosive, the clash of wills, the banter, inner dialogues are absolutely delicious . Annnnnd....Sineater is COMING!!!! An absolute MUST READ!.

Loved, loved, loved this story. This story is about Solear a mercenary of the Varakartoom crew and twin of Aramon (Betrothed to the Alien Mercenary) and Lyra a human reporter who finds proof that women are being abducted. Her boss prints it which leads her to be abducted and sold to the crime lord Jalima as a slave. Lyra is summoned and refused to cooperate to "Goldie's" advances. She finds herself locked in a cell in the basement. Then the mansion gets attacked by a handful of the Varakartoom crew who's looking for intel on Jalima's whereabouts. Solear smells something he's drawn toward and finds Lyra leading him to being captured and put in her cell. What happens afterward was an engaging touchy adventure story I'd devoured. Loved our characters and the storyline in this delightful copy I'd received and volunteer to read and review.
