Pretty Prudent Home is part design book, part DIY guidebook, with beautiful photography inviting readers to tackle projects both simple and sophisticated. With images from the authors’ homes, as well as those of trendsetters around the world, fans are given an in-depth look into the lives and design sensibilities of a wide spectrum of stylish, aspirational, yet down-to-earth families. With modern projects that include repainting thrift store finds, repurposing vintage heirlooms, creating quick window treatments, sewing your first hand-me-down quilt, and even tips on the easiest ways to throw a last-minute party or host a bake sale, Pretty Prudent Home offers practical projects and a large dose of Boneau and Curtis’s trademark banter and whimsy to help you create a truly inspired yet livable home.
About one-quarter of the book is interior decorating, and three-quarters are crafts that tend to require a lot of materials and time. There's not a lot new or unique, e.g. pom-poms, tassels, cushions... But the book is organised in a nice way and the authors come across as relatable and likeable, which doesn't always happen with these types of books.
This would be a great book for young people just decorating their new home. I'm at the stage where I want books full of eye candy. This is definitely not that.
3.5 stars, mostly for the pictures and some fun projects. I honestly expected more home decorating advice, and what there was was very common sense. This book is definitely aimed at a young person starting out, not an established adult trying to figure out how to decorate their home. Also the entertaining section was odd to include; this book was about home decorating.
Super practical for a beginner with a lot of good designing tips that can please both the DIYer and the buyer. Full color photographs are a major plus too. I love the binder idea for keeping room ideas and swatches organized and to ensure you stay on theme and you work through the rooms of your home. Really excited to start implementing some of these ideas!
I found this a bit confusing. It started with decorating styles then moved in craft projects. There were also tips from different people. It wasn't clear how the parts matched up. It felt like some took files and photos they'd saved and put them into a book.
