** 4 “pick up the broken pieces” STARS **

“Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.”
~ Anton Chekhov

I couldn't help but be reminded of Anton Chekhov's famous words while reading this book. They haunted me throughout it all and still haven't quite left me... Because Faye doesn't want to be told that the moon is shining. She wants Rhett to show her the glint of light on broken glass. In other words, I believe this book is about a broken young girl who needs ACTIONS rather than WORDS...

“How did someone pick up the broken pieces of themselves? Where would they begin?”
~ FAYE

Faye opens her eyes in the hospital, battered and broken. Beaten and bloody. Unrecognizable. DEFEATED.

Rhett opens his eyes, just to see Faye's bruised body laying on a hospital bed and when their eyes lock, he can see right through the depths of her shredded soul. He wonders whether she can see right through his soul, also. Whether she can see the unstoppable craving and the scorching lust in his eyes. He doesn't want her to know. He just wants to make everything okay. With his care...and his love.

Faye has lost all her hope for a better, happier, more peaceful life... She knows HE will be back. She knows HE will take her back. She knows HE will punish her for their time apart when that happens. She will be HIS again, Faye knows this for sure. After all, she belongs to HIM. She always have and always will. RIGHT?

Rhett is angry. With HIM…the horrible man that he shares genes with. With the girl that kept every awful detail of her life a secret from him. With life. And most importantly, WITH HIMSELFRhett is angry because he now knows that he’s been a blind idiot. That he is as guilty as the man that damaged that little girl. That he is never going to be able to repair the damage HE did. Rhett is angry because Faye will always see HIM when she looks at Rhett. Rhett is angry because she will always see Rhett as the devil’s son, the man who left her alone to cope with all the horrors and the pain, the man who didn’t save her. Rhett is angry because Faye will never belong to him.

Faye is angry. With HIM. With herself. With life. And most impotantly, with Rhett... Seeing the pity in his eyes hurts much worse than Taylor's knives ever did. Faye is angry because Rhett will never want her now. Not after learning everything. Not after seeing...THAT. Faye is angry because Rhett will never touch her that way. Not now that he knows who had been there before him...

Rhett is battling within himself, afraid to BECOME his father, afraid to BECOME the monster while the real one is in jail, afraid to BECOME the person to push Faye over the edge this time...

Will his love for Faye be strong enough to defeat his guilt?

That ending... It gutted me. In fact, this whole story swallowed me up and spit me out. Goddammit Rhett! You ruined everything. Good job, a**hole!

There will be spoilers.

I received my first arc from Megan in exchange for an honest write up. Guys, this series is the goods.

I wanted him to hurt like he’d hurt me. I wanted to rip him open and feed him his own insides. Show him what they really tasted like. What it felt like to watch the person you loved be with someone else. Love? I don’t love him, do I?

I have grown to really adore and hate the characters in Filthy. From metaphorically puking up my guts at the mention of pseudo-taboo words like brother, sister and Daddy, to realizing that Faye is probably one of my favorite heroines in a book ever, these dark and abusive reads have become deliciously tangled in my head and I'm craving a HEA for her and Rhett.

description
Faye. A cocaine addict and prostitute at age 19 after a small eternity of rape and abuse at the hands of her step-father, she has managed to escape him physically, but his emotional hold over her is stronger than ever. This installment had me on edge from start to finish - physically reacting to some of the things that happened in here has never felt so validating (we're talking spastic bed jumps, audible gasps and the occasional keyboard slam).

Happiness bloomed inside me. It was different than anything I’d ever felt before. It wasn't the happiness I got when I came or when I snorted coke. It wasn't anything like that it. It was a feeling of belonging. It was silly, but I couldn’t help it. They we're my friends.

description
Rhett. The dark mindfuck equivalent of a knight in shining armour. Older than Faye (the yums) with a successful career as a Lawyer (double yums), he mostly has internal battles with his feelings for Faye. Lust, anger, pity and a whole lotta love (fucking finally). The dual POVs were perfect for understanding Rhett and without this approach to the story, I probably would have hated him. Although the whole premise of this book is extremely fucked up, I find the best comfort in knowing that there is an intense amount of love for Faye pouring out of this character.

"Just thank you. For everything." I wanted to pull her into my arms again, and feel her pressed against me, even if it would be awkward across the front seat, but I didn't. Instead I sat there, staring at the most beautiful woman I’d ever laid eyes on and nodded. "You’re welcome."

Sarah. Is really nice. But she cries too much and she radiates a subtle bitch vibe. And I don't like her because I like Faye. No room for two girl loves, sorry not sorry. In saying this, her actions at the end were redeemable for all the annoyances and I do ultimately respect her for it.

Taylor. Needs to fucking die. I have never hated a character so fucking much! I don't even wanna talk about him or I'll get angry.

I would highly recommend this series to all dark lovers who enjoy taboo topics with a lot of mindfuckery and filthy kink. Can not wait for the last installment! Thank you Megan for your clever little mind.

Were we an open book with blood-splattered pages?

Filthy 5 is a quest for truth, justice and redemption. Rhett and Faye may share the same enemy, but their intentions are two entirely different reasons even if they are blind as to what those reasons are. Faye is blossoming under a positive love and a healthy environment while Rhett finds himself lost and spiraling out of control. While their deep desires are put to the test, they are not ready to face what it truly means for them and everyone around them.

As a romantic at heart, this was the moment I was waiting for, and while the build up and anticipation was perfectly drawn out, the climax was almost instantaneous and anti-climactic. Don't get me wrong I'm happy with the outcome, but I just sat there wondering, could it really be that easy??? The answer is No... On to the final installment and hopefully a HEA for Faye as she so deserves.

This has been one of my most favourite serials ever. Seriously.

Now be warned, it features anything and everyfuckingthing. Underage sex, abortion, violence towards women, a love triangle, cheating..... uhhhhh.... taboo relationships, prostitution, drugs.... I'm sure there's more too.

I think this must be my fave installment yet. Kudos to Megan D. for not making us wait forever for the next part... annnnnnnd making this one twice as long as the others.

When I thought it couldn't get any more effed up, it went and punched me in the guts.

Rhett was so much more in this one, he became dark and twisted in his love for Faye. He gave us all he had and I loved him for it. His emotions were so prominent and he was so confused. I hope to god they get a happy ever after or I'm going to bawl like a baby.

This Filthy was a bit of a game changer, Faye’s secrets are out in the open and this changes the way everyone sees her, and the way everyone perceives her actions. For the first time in the whole serial Rhett’s completely aware of what Faye’s life has been like.

With so many big things happening, Faye and Rhett have way more obstacles to overcome than any potential couple in their twenties. Rhett tries to be there for her in a supportive role but with both of them harboring so many other conflicting feelings, it’s hard for them to really be normal with one another; and with Taylor still looming over both of them can they really move on?

For the first time in her life, Faye makes friends. She spends time with people that aren’t abusing her, paying her for sex or supplying her with drugs. It gives Faye the freedom to be young for once in her life. Faye finally seems to be healing some of her wounds and she seems to be settling into a comfortable safety with Rhett and his girlfriend Sarah. Despite the newfound stability, this installment was a bit of an emotional roller coaster, so strap in.

4.5 My hearts broken Stars

She's not alone in the darkness.
She searches
But he is heartless

Taylor the monster is taken to jail and Rhett is determined to put his father away for as long as possible, to make him pay. Poor Rhett is in a daily struggle with his feelings for Faye and his need to do the right thing. I found myself feeling so sorry for Sarah in this one as it became more obvious that Faye and Rhett had strong feelings for each other.

Faye has made so much progress in starting over. Finding a job, finishing school and learning to drive.

 photo bakecake_zpsrcmcn5mq.gif

But then came the trial against Taylor and Faye having to testify. As she was recalling graphic scenes in her mind I lost it at the story of her baby.

 photo babyhand_zps9dd1q8d2.jpg

Neither Rhett nor Faye new quite what to do with themselves when the trail comes to an end, the shit hits the fan and someone (me) gets their heart broken.

He let my offering, my heart, fall to the floor, the messy heap that it was. And when I heard the front door shut, I was truly alone.

***4 Can see the light at the end of the tunnel Stars***

I am so impatient when waiting for the next book in a series and Filthy is no exception to this.

I feel like I have grown so close to these characters and want to know the final outcome. I want their HEA so bad, my emotions are all over the place.

Pissed at Rhett for him being so cruel sometimes...frustrated at his girlfriend for all the crying but ended up respecting her for not being as stupid as I thought.

I love how Megan writes gritty stories that can captivate the reader - even though at times you feel that you can't read anymore because of the dark content but you still need to turn the page to find out what happens next.

Ms. Martin...I'm anxiously waiting for the next book!

Jeez Louise this book!

It feels kinda wrong for me to be enjoying this series as much as I have been considering what the story is about. But they've been so well written and gripping that it's consumed me today. Completely. It's not something I would usually pick up but I am so so glad I did.

Now fingers crossed the last book stays in line with the others and isn't a let down.

5++ Heart Breaking Stars

In the fifth installment of FILTHY, we find Faye dealing with the aftermath of the fourth installment. Even though she believes that the darkness will come for her again, a small part of her is starting to believe her life can be something else.

description
description

Rhett, is dealing with trying to care for Faye, yet keeping his distance at the same time. He’s driven to find something to help both of them deal with the past and keep it away from their future.

description

Sarah, Rhett's long-time girlfriend, feels his distance as he strives to right the wrongs done to Faye. But even Faye can feel her resentment for all the time he spends trying to "fix what's broken."

description

I was concerned that the length of the book would take something away from how Megan had written the first 4 installments, with quick action and emotion, bubbling over on every page. But I worried for nothing. Once I started the book, I couldn’t put it down. I had errands to run, groceries to get, but I COULDN’T. PUT. IT. DOWN.

Every worried moment, every anxiety, fear, horror, love and confusion, I felt on every freaking page I read. This installment gutted me for so many reasons.

The ending just ripped my heart out. I was holding my hand to my chest as I was reading it. I read the letter over and over again, just as Rhett did. I love Megan for writing this story, but hate her for doing this to me every installment. Where I know it’s ending, but I am freaking out at the cliffhanger as I read the last word. I want the last installment NOW!!!!! UGH!!!!!

I wish I could read it all over again, like I never read it before.

Faye’s secret is out. After Rhett finds her on the floor in the bathroom with his father hovering over her, there is no way she can deny the years of abuse she suffered under his hands. Now that Rhett knows the truth, he is set to make sure his father pays, focusing solely on putting him behind bars. Faye knows more now than ever that she loves Rhett. But Rhett is struggling to accept that his feelings towards Faye are different from his fathers. He doesn’t want to be the monster his father is and loving Faye is all kinds of wrong.

Usually at this phase in a serial series I would be filled with the urge to slap the characters upside their heads. I can’t really say that this feeling has happened yet. The situation is just so fucked up that it’s like, do whatever you want, not gonna say a thing... There was a lot more angst in this installment between Faye and Rhett than in the prior books, which drove me a little crazy. We see the way Faye has grown a bit from the prior books, after her secret is found out. I really was surprised that after the event that occurred at the end of four, leading into five that she did not end up seeking additional help. I mean, it’s fiction, but she just went through detox of a major drug that she used for coping... her whole secret was exposed in a way that would cause many to revert back to old patterns....

I am really enjoying this series. It is one of those ones that you feel so dirty reading, but yet you can’t put it down. I look forward to the conclusion of this series and seeing what happens when these two both admit how they really feel.

The wait was long but it was so worth it!!

The last few weeks I've been stalking Megan D. Martin in the hopes of Filthy 5 being realised. I was patient.... Kinda

But when I woke up this morning and saw that the ARC arrived in my inbox I couldn't believe it.

Needless to say I devoured it straight away and ignored the world around me.

Part 5 is just amazing! You get answers and even more questions.
I was at the edge of my seat the entire time reading this.

I love Faye's journey and I'm so happy to see her growing even more.

But that ending! Oh god was it both amazing and agonizing.

If your a fan of this series, you are really going to love this installment.

I really hope the wait for part 6 is no where near as long. I need my answers!

☆ I received an ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ☆

Damn, you emotions!! I'm soo upset yet happy at Rhett!!

In some ways I was happy that he finally got his head out of his *you know what* and finally came to his senses about his true feelings for Faye...but, on the other hand, I was royally pissed on how he handled things.

It was like he was trying to do the noble thing for Faye and himself only to have things backfire and get wrecked for good.

Damn boy, are you in for some groveling!!

I have officially fallen in love with this author's writing. I'm convinced of the pain and suffering of all the characters involved. The yearning between Faye and Rhett is palpable. The remembered torment she endured from Taylor was intolerable. The triangle that includes Sarah was real. I could imagine her kindness turning into sourness. I can't believe, with all the filth involved, how much I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Finally! Its been fuckinforever for this book to come out! I just hate waiting! damn it.. I kinda forgot how part 4 ended so I had to re-read the damn thing to remember what happened.

This series is one effing roller coaster ride! Both characters are driving me nuts its not even funny anymore. I was hoping Rhett will put his big alpha panties on, but in this book he was quite frustrating. ugh~ Yeah, he was really possessive here- loved that, but the hot/cold treatment he did make me want to pull my hair out!

FILTHY is really frustrating. Seriously. T__T

And yeah... I'm anticipating the LAST (hopefully!) installment! lol!

To Megan D. Martin - I'll clean your house? do your laundry? cook dinner? You don't need to do anything hun, I'll be your slave until you finish the last installment! lol

Can't say I don't want HEA for Faye & Rhett. Totally want it for them. Eventhough Rhett is not the kind of hero who can melt my romantic side but I still want him to have HEA with Faye. As taboo as it is. Don't care. Just want them happy.

P.S: to Rhett when being his dick-self.

I was really enjoying this series! Will I finish this series? Absolutely!! The only reason I'm only giving it 3 stars is because I felt like Part 5 was too repetitious. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it.. Probably a little too much considering how disturbing this series is. I feel like I need to re-evaluate myself, and my reading choices. this was the best installment yet, made even more enjoyable because it's twice as long as the others and just as you think you have all the answers and your sitting pretty, new questions are asked and once again you're left thinking "how the hell will this all actually work?."

the author manages to punch you in the guts with all those pesky rapid fire feelings, she's pretty good at handling that angst stick. and i do love me some angst!

also, with THAT ending.. i really hope the wait for final part isn't as long as the wait for this one was!! i. will. die.

this is definitely my favorite serial, dark or otherwise. megan d. martin continues to suprise me each and every time.

it's fucked up and it's not pretty but at it's heart, it's about love. and i am addicted!

Oh God just finished it and my emotions are all over the place! Megan broke my heart more than once in this book...I cried more than once.

I'm so happy for all the journey Faye did to stand back to her feet again and the courage to live again! I'm happy for the things she achieved in this book and that she got back finally that freedom taken from her when she was 9. I want her to continue this journey and find her independence and happiness without the need of a man.

Rhett...my feelings for him were in total contradiction. I loved him for most part of the story, he finally was being so supportive and lovely with her...he helped her built herself but only to break her heart in the end.

And there I was back wanting to strangle him for hurting Faye again. Let's face it the girl suffered the hell especially after proposing to him when she was 15. The psycopathy of his father took the worse after that event.

I couldn't stand anymore Rhett saying he was sorry for everything...sorry for what?? Man up dude and take responsibility for your actions!

I really began rooting for Roger, he treated Faye as a normal person not as a victim.

And I didn't like the fact that Sarah was the one ending things with him and sending him Faye's way...He didn't say a thing even to Sarah, except "I'm sorry"...I wanted it to be his decision, hic choice not Sarah's!

And what the hell coming back home to say to Faye what?? The girl gave her heart to him and he didn't care to break it!
I hated the fact that he doesn't care about hurting people's feelings with his actions.

He didn't give a shit that he hurt Faye and didn't give a shit that he hurt Sarah.

And Sarah was such a doormat as usual even while sending him away...so forgiving. Some backbone please girl!

I hope Faye doesn't accept him easly...he has to win her back with real actions.

Great job as always Megan, loved this book as much as the previous ones!

So looking forward to book 6!

If you love dark erotica romance I totally recommend it!
