Since the first printing of In Search of Confederate Ancestors: The Guide in 1993, countless numbers of family researchers have discovered their Civil War soldier roots using this easy-to-follow guide. And, now, a newly revised and updated edition provides even more sources along with valuable information for those searching on-line; 130 pages in soft cover.
I have several Confederate Ancestors and this book truly helped point me in the right direction. While this edition was updated in 2008 and included a little computer technology, it could use another update now, since tech has evolved significantly in the past 12 years. Nonetheless, genealogy is a labor of looking finding and looking at originals and the manual techniques discussed by Segars can be converted to computer by anyone facile with a computer. Or trust Google to search for you if you are creative. I also have to mention that Segar mentions many additional Confederate (and Northern) Civil War books as resources. Since many are now our of copyright, they can be found online and downloaded for free. Others can be found online and "borrowed" for free. Still others, since they are close to 20 years old or older, can be purchased through discount bookstores at considerable savings.
