The author gave me a digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

Now that's more like it.

I enjoyed this one so much more than Doctor Mars. My problems with Doctor Mars were lack of world building, and how short it was. Well this book fixed that. I felt that it was just as long as it needed to be, and the world was more flushed out.

In conclusion, great way to end a story, even though I still do hope that we'll get at least one more book from this world.

Literally out of this world! I, Mars T. A. Uner’s second book of his Mindcop Dossier Series, breaks out of the gate at warp speed, grabbing the baton from book one and stepping up both the pace and the energy level.

In the future, Mars is inhabited, “mutants” with special abilities are part of society and evil, the lust for power, control and greed still lives on. The Mindcop Division’s job is to maintain safety and enforce laws, but when the very fabric of Mars’ existence is threatened and the leader of the Mindcops is killed, things don’t move fast enough for Liberty. Cal has been presumed dead for a while, but Liberty won’t be satisfied until she has proof. Going against all orders, she and her partner, an abrasive, yet endearing human undertake their own probe into the computers of Probos, one of Mars’ moons where the vile Slow Fly is planning his takeover.
A message comes from Probos, encoded and meant only for Liberty, from one of the most powerful mutants ever. What can this mean? Will the MCPF finally get the upperhand on Slow Fly or is this a trick, a trap meant to bring Mars to its knees??

Not sure what T. A. Uner had for breakfast, but whatever it was, he has raised his own bar in the sci-fi fantasy world! Tight plotting, fabulous dialogue and a cast of characters that can amuse and repulse, the heroes stand out as a force to be reckoned with and the villains, well, let’s just say a super FLY swatter may be in order. Great reading for all ages, quick, to the point and filled with an energy and intensity that flies off the pages.

I received this copy from T. A. Uner in exchange for my honest review.

An epic conclusion for an epic series. This book definitely cleared the air and answered a lot of my questions.

I love how for once it was the girlfriend saving the boyfriend - not the other way around. Really reinforces the whole "girls can be just as strong" thing that I'm really into.

description

This book carried and collected a lot of different themes and managed to very uniquely and delicately pull them together to make this amazing story. It has a hint of romance, some suspense and a hell of a lot of action. I think it also requires you to think for yourself and try to figure out what's going on cause it's not always really happened yet and requires your own intelligence a little so you tend to be quite active while reading this book and it requires some thought from you too. It's kind of like a little Marvel movie in your head. And I love Marvel with a passion! :)

All in all - it was a fun, short read that I thoroughly enjoyed! :)

Thank-you and well done to T.A. Uner...

The author gave me a digital copy in exchange of writing a review of the book.

This second book took me much longer than Doctor Mars, the first reason is because I started school and the second one is that I felt that there was less action. (And also, this one is a little longer than the first). I felt that everything occurred slowly and I think that is the only thing I didn't like.
But... I loved the whole story. Everything is very interested and it kept me thinking what would happen next and how would everything end.
Now, I love much more Liberty; she's still awesome. The type of female character that I love.
Something that I really appreciate is that the author let me know more about Calvin and about his relationship with Lib. I think that is one of the best things of the book.
I also liked very much the miners and I kinda like Slow Fly, even though he's "the bad guy".
The end of the book is great; the romantic part was THE BEEEST! and I'll be waiting for the third and final part (I think).
Thanks T.A. Uner, it will always be a pleasure to read and review your books! :D

*** I was given a free copy by the author for an honest review***

I liked this part better than the first one as all my complaints were answered in this. This book had a little more description and also somewhat explained how human beings started living in Mars. This book also had more world development than the previous one. Like the first one this is written very nicely and is very interesting. The descriptions are vivid enough to imagine everything. I loved Libby's character and also all the other side characters. Like I said for the previous book, I really want to see an episodic TV series based on this book.

Overall this was a very interesting and fun-filled read and if you like the first part you are definitely gonna love the second one. looking forward to the rest of the series.

Actually a 2.5 rating. Before i start i just want to give a huge thanks to the author T.A. Uner for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review.

Plot: In the beginning and middle i felt like the plot had no real structure, it was kind of all over the place and had no set direction in which it was going. Also nothing really happened until the end i would have liked if it had kept my attention throughout the whole thing not just the end.

Characters: Liberty had no personality to me she just kind of felt 2 dimensional as well as all the other characters. Because of this, i found it hard to be attached to the characters and actually care what happened to them. The characters just didn't feel real to me we knew nothing about them or their past other than their names.

Writing style: i found it very difficult to keep up with the character's dialogue and what was happening. It was hard to pay attention to because i just found myself detached and uninterested. Despite how relatively short this was it was dragging for me. The story was kind of monotonous until the end. Something that could have helped was having a comedic element thrown into the mix, this would have made the story easier to follow and pay attention to. Also i would have liked to see the romance element developed more.

World Building: I thought the idea of living on mars was cool and interesting. I liked the advanced technology and would have liked the story to expand on that too, it could have been a strong point. But it was hard to imagine the world it just did not seem real to me.

Overall i think the story had potential and the world sounds cool but it could have been executed better.

I, Mars continues the tale of Liberty Rise, a mutant from the special unit called Mindcop that has the ability to "mindshift", and her partner Fred Muir an old school detective with a bad attitude. Slow Fly is back and has a new plan to become supreme ruler of Mars' moons.

The book starts up during a (seemingly) regular undercover mission, but is quick to reveal a plot twist that links this story to book #1. Needless to say, Liberty and her partner are off to investigate what they have discovered and ultimately end that lingering threat once and for all.

Set on Mars and Phobos (one of its moons), the writing does a good job at taking you there. T.A. Uner gives you enough details to get your imagination going without doing all the job for you. It brought to mind more than once Total Recall, which is definitely a good thing, at least if you like this kind of stories.

Although this is a complete story with no missing parts, it is still a bit too short in my opinion. I think this series has definitely a great potential for longer stories and hopefully will spawn more sequels, in which I'd love to see how far Liberty can develop her powers.

Thanks to T A Uner for giving me this book to review.

Liberty Rise is still haunted by the death of her boyfriend Cal. Now Mars Colonial Police Force have another threat to deal with, from their enemy Slow Fly. He has taken control of a mining outpost on Phobos, one of Mars’s moons. However, when Liberty discovers some information about Cal, the stakes become even higher but will she be able to cope with the truth?

I, Mars is the enjoyable sequel to Doctor Mars, and although it is a fairly short story it goes a bit more in-depth than the previous book. This book is well written, has an interesting story, and good world building.

I liked how determined Liberty was, even if it would cost her career, and she is smart but also less reserved than in the last book. There are interesting side characters but I cannot say my favourite without spoiling the book, but I hope there is more of him in the next book.

This has a great potential to become a really good book series, and I would recommend I, Mars to fans of the first novella, Doctor Mars.

Analyzer Liberty Rice is back and stumbles upon some startling information while working on another case. Without giving away spoilers, it definitely it something that sends her on a mission to not only saves Mars from Slow Fly, she is able to get her life back.
Slow Fly is definitely a product of his environment. Before becoming a mutant, he had an abusive childhood, and as an adult a lab experiment. He loved and admired Dr. Hitzig, who was a power hungry man. Apparently that rubbed off on Slow Fly along with being a psychotic. Actually I don’t know if he is psychotic because of his interaction the doctor or something with cloning process. Whatever it was, he wants to have his own little dictatorship on Phobos and hold Mars hostage.
This is a quick paced book that takes you on a ride and wonder what is going to happen next. I love that Liberty is such a strong character and willing to do what is necessary to save those she loves. Unfortunately, she isn’t able to eliminate Slow Fly, however that is not a bad thing when it comes to the series. Obviously there is going to be more confrontations between them before it finally comes to a head until one is finally victorious.

I, Mars is about the rescuing of Cal Murray, the boyfriend of Liberty.

I liked it. It wasn't too short nor too long. It was just right. The story itself was really sweet (thumbs up to the wonderful ending). I really like the beginning with the prostitute costumes because it was quite an unusual way of starting a book and that really caught my attention. It wasn't bad. It wasn't bad at all. I just thought that the writing was a little heavy and that made it hard to read. Other than that, it's a fine book. Also, a little more Cal and Liberty would be nice.

I absolutely love this series! I thought it was a great sequel to it's first novel Doctor Mars. It had an interesting and thrilling plot and very satisfying ending.

I really liked Cal in this book, since he wasn't really major in the previous book. I'm glad he got more scenes, I hope he becomes more important in any future Mindcop Dossiers books. As always Liberty Rise was awesome! I was a bit disappointed that she didn't get into much action compared to the first book, I would've liked her to use to mind-shift more since it's my favorite thing about her character - minus her being a strong heroine.

The beginning was abit slow for me, but given the length of the novel it's understandable. I wished there was more action sequences and more dialogue. Anyway, I'm looking forward to every characters development, Liberty, Cal and Slow Fly specifically. Slowfly was just downright creepy in this book lol! Creepy in a good way though, I'm so excited to see what he's going to do next, hopefully something happens in his favor since it seems like the MCPF are always winning. I'm looking forward to more of his POV since there was a scene where he was having some sort of identity crisis,

Overall the book was great! I found it extremely satisfying to read. Can't wait to get to know the characters more and see what's instore for them in the future!

Cliffhangers?
HEA?
Would I recommend this? Massive yes! Especially to scifi lovers

Doctor Mars was my introduction to T.A. Uner and his work. I enjoyed that short so much I could not wait for the next book in the series. So, when I was gifted with I, Mars I eagerly read it to see what new developments occurred with Libby, Slow Fly, and Cal. This installment not only gave more insight into both Libby and Slow Fly’s characters but was longer in length as well. This episode also answered my lingering question surrounding Cal after reading Doctor Mars.

I, Mars is book two in the Mindcop Dossiers series and wastes no time picking up where Doctor Mars ended. As with book one, I was engaged from the beginning until the very end. Not to give any spoilers away, but with a resilient heroine and new powers revealed I, Mars proves to be an exciting science fiction novella looking to save a fallen comrade and life on Mars.

Even though I’m happy with the ending, I hope the author will progress with the storyline. If I learned anything from reading these two sequences it is that the individual you thought was “dead” just might not be.

As previously mentioned, this read is longer in length although still considered a short. I liked the read was a bit longer but remained as a novella. I find this to be a refreshing break from the author’s full length series Leopard King Saga. I hope if the author continues this series it will remain as a short as it is the perfect length in my opinion for a sci-fi newbie.

I, Mars is a short, futuristic gem. So, if you are a fan of sci-fi futuristic reads that are shorts, I recommend giving the I, Mars and Mindcop Dossiers series a try. They are engaging, fast paced, and packed with action.

**I was given a copy of this title after reading and reviewing the first book in this series, "Doctor Mars", by the author in exchange for my honest review.**

"I, Mars" (I love the titles in this series) takes place on Mars and the planet's moon, Phobos, with the latter's mining facility (Javelin) now seized by the genetically engineered terrorist known as Slow Fly. Slow Fly is a bad dude and he's abducted Liberty Rise's assumed dead boyfriend. And he's using him to control "Regulator", the main computer at Javelin, attempting to turn man and machine into an omnipotent weapon at his disposal.

When Mindcop mutant, Liberty, discovers that Cal might not be as dead as everyone believed, she takes matters into her own hands, defying orders and using whatever means necessary to save the man that she loves. Which also means she's in it for a showdown with the nefarious Slow Fly.

I found this book to be even more enjoyable than book 1, my issues with "Doctor Mars" mainly due to a lack of descriptive details and background history of Mars and it's mutants. At the end of this novella, the author explains that the first book was purposefully lacking these missing details in order to urge the reader to use their imaginations. I honestly believe that his decision to add in more detail in "I, Mars" to be a winning choice. Yes, we need to use our imaginations when we read, but we also need some guidelines. The reader doesn't want to build from scratch, after all, and one example is the author's setting of the planet Mars. In Book 1, we only know that Mars was terraformed to have a breathable atmosphere. But I wanted to know what that meant. Was there still red desert on the planet's surface? What did the sky look like? Did Mars look like a second Earth? In Book 2, the author gives us the answers to these questions, and more, and I, for one, was delighted to read them!

Though I'd like to comment on the ending and the showdown, both sweet for different reasons, I shall refrain. I don't want to give anything away. =D

BOOK REVIEW: I, MARS 5stars

Book #2 of the Mindcop Dossiers is longer than the first and written on a much bigger canvas. You see more of and learn more about the terraformed Mars and now its moons Phobos and Deimos and works all the better for it. More supporting characters, even better dialogue between the characters who have accepted their colleagues differences now, tolerate each other and get on with the job. There are some genuinely quite funny exchanges in places. More colourful villains and supporting characters like Saint, Shortstop and Turk don't stay for long enough - especially a one eyed mercenary. A dramatic upping of the stakes and threat to Mars are all present.

You do need to read Book #1, DOCTOR MARS first as it affects the story even though it follows on a year or so after, but that's not bad thing. The author in his notes at the back acknowledges the first novel may have been to short for some and not as detailed. This is true but as detail slows pace in a novella is fair enough. I did think that some exposition from the middle of the 2nd book about how antagonist Slow Fly got his name or the backstory timeline for Mars being terraformed could have been slipped into the first book when I read both back-to-back.

One thing I would have preferred would be to place ch.1 after ch.3 as it would add to Liberty's mourning for her boyfriend, Cal, and also started the book more on Liberty & Muir in what is quite a good set piece with Red 14 crime syndicate.

To sum up, a good read. Better than DOCTOR MARS and I recommend it to fans of SF. Hopefully, Book #3 will be along in the not too distant 'future'...

I, Mars is the second installment of the Mindcop Dossiers (series?). Back when I first read Doctor Mars, I was intrigued by the story itself as well as where it was headed. Though I gave Doctor Mars 3 gears (stars) out of 5, I give I, Mars a 4. Why?

The author did a great job with detail -- it was just perfect; not too much that I became bored with it, and not too little where I would have given it the same rating as Doctor Mars. The action was great, as was the continuation of the story. I have to admit,

So, 4 gears it is. The author did a wonderful job improving in this story and I look forward to hearing if there is more to come or if this was it for Liberty.

I was given this to read by my friend T A Uner in exchange for a frank and fair review so here goes.
This is the sequel to Dr Mars featuring Mindcop Liberty Rise a mutant with mind shifting powers.
I feel both stories could easily be made into a series for SYFY as they lend themselves visually to this sort of TV series.
while the story is short and concise it is easy to read and reminicent of the old sci fi series novels of the eighties.
It flows nicely and moves along at a pace which makes it easy to follow. The characters are well fleshed out and the Martian backdrop is a great touch, reminds me of Total Recall visually in my mind, gritty and realistic.
The story ties in with the first story and this could be a bigger novel with a few tweaks.
Mr Uner is a great believer in the power of imagination and these stories gives the reader the ammunition to do just that.
Very imaginative, great ideas, very visual, should be a TV series bit like Dark matter and Continuum.
Oh and it has a space ninja- snake-eyes in space!
Read it.

Without giving too much away..."Slow Fly cursed within his helmet. "That bitch, that stupid little mutant bitch."" Round 2. Slow Fly is inhabiting Phobos (a Mars moon) plotting his revenge by making a crew out of some miners and having aid by a few trustworthy sidekicks. Liberty is still on Mars and plots to finish Slow Fly off once and for all. A character thought to be dead really isn't and is being held prisoner by Slow Fly, so there is also a rescue attempt and speculation about whose side the prisoner is really on. A decent continuation plot. I, Mars doesn't have as much action as Dr Mars and it also lacked exotic futuristic Mars components/culture/weaponry (which I thought were areas that could have been milked more to elevate the Mindcop Dossiers series). The series plot is entirely unique and has loads of potential to be built up on.

First I want to thank the author for providing this book in return for an honest review.
I, Mars is the second short story of the Mindcop Dossiers series. I’ll start right off the bat by giving it 3.5 stars. I love the idea of the world of the Mindcops: the mutants, the aliens, the crime-solving. The characters themselves didn’t offer much depth, but the narrating stayed interesting, especially when it was focussed on the bad-ass heroine Liberty Rise. However, I felt like there was this big build-up to the rising action, and it wasn’t super fulfilling––the journey to the villain’s base was lost, and the end seemed rushed. Despite being twice as long as its predecessor, it still felt like a story with potential crammed in a too-small casing. If there’s another novella I’d like to see it longer. Again, 3.5 stars.

Wow this book was amazing! I would have read it in one sitting if I could have. The length was perfect. I enjoy short books because there are none of the boring details and the book is always straight to the point. From beginning to end this book was filled with constant drama and action that keeps you wondering what's going to happen next. I loved learning more about the characters and understanding their personalities a little more. If your looking for a quick action packed read you should try this series out!

First and foremost Slow Fly is very very creepy. Every time I try to picture him all I can see is the face of a fly. Liberty Rise and Detective Muir have become 2 of my favorite characters in this series. They work well together. T.A. Uner brings these characters to life by allowing me to picture everything in my mind instead of giving me full descriptions of certain things, which is something I like about his stories.

I liked this book better the first one, although it might be a series effect or something. The book 1 was more like a pilot, and the readers could get just a glimpse. In this book, stories are moving faster.

Slow Fly's monologues are very creepy, but I think the author is great at shaping bad guys.

I also liked the afterword "Imagination".

Before I started this book, I had to read book 1 again, and though it may not be so relevant, I liked that this was longer.
I also liked that there was a bit more about Liberty's life, especially concerning her mother; I really want to know more about her character. The questions I had about Slow Fly were also answered, though I still have some about Detective Muir; I really need to know his story.
To sum it up, I liked the story and how it was written, and hope there will be a third book.

I, Mars by T. A. Uner Note: While this book reads just fine as a stand alone, it does contain some major plot spoilers for Book 1 (Doctor Mars).
Set approximately one year after Book 1, Liberty Rise is still a Mindcop and she’s still partnered with the smoking Muir. Things are brewing at the mining colony Javelin on Mars’s moon Phobos. Slow Fly has worked hard over the past year to take over the colony. Now, he’s putting on the finishing touches, getting his master computer up and running, and nearly ready to declare his superiority over Mars and the other moon Deimos. Liberty and Muir will have something to say about that!
This book was just as fast moving as Book 1 but was nearly twice as long. I really loved Book 1. The author did a great job in that book creating the setting, the Mindcops, the characters, and the plot, all swiftly and concisely. Here, we already have the setting and many of the characters, so I felt things could slow down a bit and have a bit more detail. The plot wasn’t as neat and tidy as Book 1. There was only a smidge of character development.
With that said, this is still brain candy. It moves along swiftly, so I was never bored. Liberty Rise continues to be interesting. We learn a bit more about her upbringing as a mutant as we get to meet her mom. Then we also have Mr. Bose, Liberty’s and Muir’s boss. He’s an interesting character, being mostly calm and yet decisive. He does a great job of holding the team together when the crap starts flying. Meanwhile, Slow Fly, our evil one, continues to be interesting, though not as thoughtful and sinister as in Book 1. He’s out there, not hiding in the shadows. Folks on Phobos know who he is and that he is trouble.
So we have this mystery with Liberty’s old boyfriend Cal Murray. There’s been no word of him this past year. But now she has questions for Slow Fly about him, forceful questions. Then Slow Fly is trying to build some world domination scheme involving his super computer Regulator and a nuclear arsenal. In this regard, he reminded me a bit of Brain from that cartoon Pinky and the Brain. I don’t think he understands what it takes to build nuclear pits and then to install them in space worthy warheads, even in the 22nd century. Lastly, we have some miner rebels that want to overthrow Slow Fly and banish him. He finds this annoying and the executions will continue until he is no longer annoyed.
There’s a bit more humor, albeit dark humor, in this book than in Book 1. Also, the story continues to be diverse, having several female characters and various ethnicities. I love seeing this in SF. Over all, it’s still a worthy series. I enjoyed my time reading this book and I plan to continue on with the series.

Disclaimer: the author provided a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

The second installment of the futuristic police procedural/colonial sci-fi mashup Mindcop Dossiers improves on the first one in many aspects. Most notably, I am glad to see more world-building, actually showing off more of Mars and Phobos, whereupon it finally makes sense that the events take place somewhere off-Earth. The way these societies are run is also showcased, with the government and military meetings on Mars and with the labor organization in the mines of Phobos. This is all pretty good stuff, the universe has a very interesting feel to it and I'd love to explore it a bit more in future installments.

The length is more appropriate, as well, at approximately twice that of the opening volume. It gives a chance for both the plot and the characters to develop a bit more and there's even some room to showcase the relationships between the characters, which were kept at the stereotype level in the first volume.

The dialogues are a bit awkward at times and the plot could use some more work - I think it's missing a twist of some kind. Basically, our heroine Liberty and her friends from the Martian Colonial Police Force decide to do something, then they do it, without too much unexpected stuff crossing their path. Although this is not a classic whodunit, it's still a police procedural, at least partially, so adding a "cracking the case" element to the plot should give more feeling of closure and satisfaction to the readers.

I also thought that Liberty's mutant abilities keep changing, or rather, growing, too much. By this rate in the next book she'll nearly become an omnipotent deity with her ability to read minds and manipulate levers without ever touching the person or object in question.

One thing I did not appreciate is that in the closing notes, the author felt the need to educate his readers about the need to use their imagination more, instead of clamoring for more details about the world and the characters. Dude, so unnecessary. The people provided the feedback based on how they experienced the first volume and the truth is, it felt a little bland without any world-building and only sketches of characters. I would suggest taking that out, as it doesn't serve any other purpose than patronizing the readers and telling them how they should read your book, which is totally superfluous. These people know how to read.

In short, though, this all shows a lot of promise, particularly with the setting.

First of all this was an interesting book when you compared the differences in just the writing structure between "Doctor Mars" and "I, Mars". There was definitely more details in the story, a bit more plot and the characters were made a bit more realistically. And yet the two are a perfect complement for each other.

I most definitely liked the characters within this book for you could see them realistically while they had much stronger personalities. Also much to my relief Slow Fly was still a pain but he wasn't as much as a pain as he was in the original book so in a sense you could say his character had matured. And towards the end (I refuse to give it away) there was one character who became like a demigod in the end.... The overpowering of some characters has always been a contention point to me I don't like it while in many cases it seems the author is just trying to rush the end of the story. T.A. Uner has showed a particular talent where he can overpower a character while making it seem impossible while then putting it back to sleep with a normal-like scene. Loved it!

Truly this second book has me intrigued into whether the series will continue on or not for it seems like it could. And I have a pesky feeling that even an open hangar and the void of space couldn't kill Slow Fly in his suit. So what may happen next?

I read both this and the first part, Doctor Mars, after getting free copies from the author. As with the first part, this one is a fun story, but this time it has more going on, especially more character development (we learn a lot more about Liberty in particular). I wouldn't say this is a particularly deep story, an opinion which is especially highlighted by the fact that I happen to be reading Kim Stanley Robinson's amazing Mars trilogy at the same time. But for what it is - a fun action story - it's not bad. As with the first one, the writing style seems a bit clunky and basic to me. I also may be one of the few readers who actually preferred the brevity of the first part (I seem to have changed my opinion from my review of the first one where I wanted more details). Based on the afterward of I, Mars, it seems that the author may share this opinion, too!

So I wasn't sure how T.A. Uner could've done any better after Doctor Mars but I, Mars is equally good if not slightly better.

Cal is alive and being used by Slow Fly in an evil plot to take control of Mars and her moons. I had a feeling Cal was still alive and in the hands of Slow Fly but I thought he would've been used as a hostage. Liberty and Muir go against the orders of Bose and go to rescue Cal. A group of rebels in the Javelin Mining Facility on Phobos called Freedom Flag help Liberty and Muir save Cal. Slow Fly launches nuclear warheads at Mars when he finds out Liberty is attacking his Facility. Cal manages to turn away the missile after a tense fight between Slow Fly, Liberty and Muir.

All in all another great book! Again I would recommend to anyone.
