When Humans Know What They are. What They Have Become. What They Have Done. When their Guilt makes Them Afraid of Me and What My Being Here Means.
When her Goal is to Play, Laugh, and Bring Gifts to Them Without Fear, how would she Introduce herself To Humans Again?
When all she wants to do is Reunite with Her Creations, Weep with them, Mend their Wounds, Give Them The Truth about Why she was Absent for so long... And Take them Home, how would God The Mother Reintroduce herself To Humans Again without Terrorizing Them?

They Take An Interest in Where their Children are and What their Children are Doing, Feeling, and Thinking.
She would Give Her Children a Way for Them to Learn All About Her in their Own Time. In a Way that They Each could Feel Special and Loved.
And she would Put all of this into a Book Series called “The Tales Of The Druí” where All Truth is Told and All Explanations are Given. But She would also know how Hard that would be for some people to Read through.
So She -- The Primordial Mother Goddess -- would Game-I-Fy The Proof and Fill it with All The Evidence And Science they would Ask For And Need. And she would Add Cures and Healing Powers to it also. As Well as Protective Wards and Sacred Knowledge that Only She Has.
And she would Fill This Game with All of Her Gifts and Treasures, which The Children could Play through And Unlock. Which Would also -- Simultaneously -- Bring them all Back Home to Her.
Because The Quest For Avalon is The Conduit that Connects Her Children back to Their Mother Goddess, which would Restore Their Memories.
Yes. She would Build Them A Game that They Could Play, which Would Also Cure them As They Played her Game, while They Also Learned about Her and Who She Is. And Thus, who They are -- For she is Their Mother.
And she would call herself “The Merlin In Your Pocket.” And Introduce herself as “Anna Imagination, The Divine Dude! Your In-Game DM-ing NPC.”
So... Here is The Game I Created For You to Play that Will Fix The World and Cure You.

If Angela B. Chrysler can be described as anything, she can be described as an author with a fantastical imagination. The world she has created in her writing is complex and profound; however, when reading her work I felt that she was always keeping information over the reader's head and I felt, at times, as though I had been left out of some big secret.
Fire and Lies is the second novel in the series, "Tales of the Drui", with Dolor and Shadow being the first book. Both are written in the traditional epic fantasy style, which is a nice treat when compared to the more contemporary fantasy style that seems to relate more to real life than it whisks you away into a mystical world. However, Chrysler's series is packed with mythology and medieval elements that become too complicated when intertwined, and while I enjoyed her setting the confusion I encountered when faced with this packed storyline put a damper on the joy that I received from my reading experience.
In fantasy novels such as this one, it is important to have a full cast of characters set in a broad setting, and while Chrysler did have both I found that she put more effort into her setting and background than she did in character development. This, in turn, hindered any attachments that I could have formed with her characters. Her writing and story do have massive potential, but all in all I found that she rushed the process of character and plot development in order to get straight to building up her background and setting. If this novel, and series, were to be reworked and constructed in a different manner I am sure that it would excel. Chrysler has massive potential, but she needs to work on understanding how to better connect with her audience and escape the world that she has created within her own mind in order to let others in. Based on the way this novel is now, I feel like an outsider looking in; but if the writing were tweaked a bit to expand on the characters and allow the reader to understand more of the story, I think that this series would end up being more of a four dimensional experience than one dimensional. It needs that all encompassing factor that is crucial in epic fantasy novels, and then it will soar with flying colors.

I cannot remember a time when a book has made me feel so happy, nor so empty upon completion. I was racing to finish this book, barely stopping to notice the time or any other needs. But... now that I have finished ... there is no comparison for this ending. While I admit that I was confused at parts since there seemed to be so many plots going on along the side, this book was stunning.

I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway.
When I received this book, it was accompanied with the previous book in the series 'Dolor and Shadow'. That was really necessary since I think it would have been difficult to pick up the story in the second book without having read the first. (I realize there is a synopsis of the previous action at the front of 'Fire and Lies' but there so much had happened that a page and a half didn't begin to do it justice.) I would not call 'Fire and Lies' a stand-alone book.
This review is actually a review of both books. I liked the books quite a bit ... but, after almost 1000 pages, I am exhausted. This is a well-crafted, meticulously written fantasy. It is filled with action and interesting characters. The dialogue seemed realistic and appropriate to the situation. However, I think it was a bit too much. After awhile, it began to seem overly detailed and the subcharacters became difficult to identify. I can't imagine the effort and imagination necessary to construct these books. Ms. Chrysler, you have my admiration.
Bottom line, I enjoyed these books; I just need a break before I delve into the continuation of this story.

I received a free copy of this book from Booklover Catlady Publicity in exchange for an honest review.
"Fire and Lies" not only continues the events begun in "Dolor and Shadow", but also continues with the enveloping atmosphere that Angela B. Chrysler seems to create with very little effort.
I found this book to be a much faster read than "Dolor and Shadow". Whether that's to do with my familiarity with the characters, or just wanting the story NOW, I'm not sure!
I'll be looking out for more from this author.

I won fire & lies through Goodreads. This is the 2nd book in the series and like the first it was amazing. Couldn't put it down until I was finished. Such a great imagination Angela Chrysler has.
