Oliver Napoleon Hill was an American self-help author and conman. He is best known for his book Think and Grow Rich (1937), which is among the best-selling self-help books of all time. Hill's works insisted that fervid expectations are essential to improving one's life. Most of his books were promoted as expounding principles to achieve "success".
Hill is a controversial figure. Accused of fraud, modern historians also doubt many of his claims, such as that he met Andrew Carnegie and that he was an attorney.

Hill suposedly wrote this book because he wants to help people recognize and overcome their fear of poverty. He basically claims that you receive exactly what you fear. He says the symptoms of the Fear of Poverty (the characteristics of a poor person) are: Indifference, indecision, doubt, worry, over-caution, and procrastination.

But the book doesn’t do a good job of helping people overcome their “fear of poverty.”

Hill keeps hammering at how the most important pursuit and goal in life is seeking riches. Basically he says that if you want to be rich, you have to be obsessed with getting money.

And I just didn't like all the focus on how "money is everything."

Also, the chapter on sex transmutation was very muddy/vague/weird.

Everyone should read this, and I plan to re-read it several times in the future to keep myself on track. It’s less about financial riches than about being the best person you can be and attaining success and happiness through that.

Good ideas and messages. Felt like I didn’t get as much value as I expected. Maybe I had high expectations before going in which may have setup the disappointment but it’s a decent read. I would rather recommend other books though.

Jaw droppingly old fashioned. When a book has a recommendation by President Taft that should be a big red flag that it's behind the times. Also, only businessmen exist in the Think and Grow Rich world... businesswoman? Don't know her

I thought the book was ok. I guess the basics of this book are sound if a little meta for me. Napoleon Hill is right in much of what he says but Im kind of more along the lines of set goals make a list and attain the goals sore of guy. Yes thinking about what you want and working towards it are the answer to getting something but he seems a little self absorbed in his thinking. It reminds me of something in the secret that I didnt like. The mystic sort of magical part which I believe in but which I dont hang my hat on as the do all and end of things.
