Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more.
When I wrote my first novel, Paranormal Nonsense, I was a Captain in the British Army. I would love to pretend that I had one of those careers that has to be redacted and in general denied by the government and that I have had to change my name and continually move about because I am still on the watch list in several countries. In truth though, I started out as a mechanic. Not like Jason Statham, sneaking about as a contract killer, more like one of those greasy gits that charge you a fortune and keep your car for a week when all you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.
At school, I was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, I won my first award. However, calling it my first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, I am having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and will claim to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in my head as they clamor to get out.
Now retired from the military, I live in the south-east corner of England with a pair of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, I doubt I will ever leave, the beer is just too good.
I started reading the first collection on a lark -_I was looking for light reading. While Higgs' stories are that, they are far more than that. Tempest Michaels is a paranormal investigator in title only, as he proves time and again that the things that go bump in the night always have a rationale explanation. Yet, some of his adventures even cause him to doubt his virtually unshakeable stance that it's all illusion.
What helps to make Higgs' novels even more entertaining is that Tempest isn't always the lead character. All of the team at Blue Moon Investigations gets to play lead in different cases; even Michael Michaels, Tempest's father, becomes an investigator, despite his wife's constant reminders that he's no longer a young man. Nevertheless, Blue Moon Investigations becomes a family affair, although Tempest is family is a bit odd. But then, so are his friends - Big Ben, Basic, Jagjit, Frank, Poison, and more. All together, they form a team which solves some amazingly complicated supernatural ruses.
Grab the collection, and hold on tight! It's going to be a fun ride!
If you're looking for a series that will make you laugh and keep turning the pages, Blue Moon Investigations is for you. Starting this bundle at book 11 (after devouring the first 10-book bundle), the characters are old friends at this point. Overall, while I love a good supernatural tale, I found I am equally happy to read well-written stories with a rational explanation, as long as the cast of characters is engaging and entertaining. The only character that warrants a bit more development is Tempest's mom. While I recognize her role in moving the story forward, she is annoying with few redeeming features. Showing her soft spot for the ghoul (in the story's reality, a person with diminished capacity who was being used by another) was a step in the right direction. But kudos to the author for creating a great, subtle teaching moment by writing the Tempest character as a true gentleman -- always modest, he maintains self-control when he's provoked, and he remains respectful when he holds opinions different from other characters.
This series is a lot of fun to read. The author shows a lot of insight into his main characters' personalities. The stories each have their own little twists and turns with lighter moments too. The language is not gong to upset the more conservative reader. I enjoyed each book equally and say that this is the first series I have read that was as this well written (and proof read - I'm a real pain in the neck when it comes to grammar, punctuation and spelling). There were no unclear moments in the books that weren't meant to be part of the character's dilemma. Just good fun to read without being too heavy.
I need to be able to give 10x5 ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😳👏🤪 In case that does not make it to the review I LOVED this series! The characters, oh and Monroe make an appearance! Ok the plots are genius! The in depth view into all of the characters is brilliant! The pace is astounding! The story arcs are beautiful! Steve Higgs has a way of fleshing out characters in such a profound and believable way, with even the most eccentric and the most stereotypical, that the suspension of disbelief is authentic! More! I have the need for MORE! And seriously THNK YOU!
I enjoyed the stories in this bundle...some of them hand me sitting on the edge of my seat! Characters were endearing, the location was interesting (I learned about the geography of Kent) and reading books created by English authors was interesting. They use words just a little differently than Americans do; it caused me to slow down a bit, and pay more attention to whst I was reading. I would recommend these books to s friend and I'm waiting to see if any more are published.
I have read all 20 of the series in one go. I have never done that with any series of books. I really love the books and all the characters . I have now to wait until next summer to see the continuing saga of Tempest and his very strange friends . Please Steve continue writing more of these books . I am now going to start another of your series and I am sure I will get as addicted to these . You are a very talented writer Steveb
Each volume is well written. The stories are unique, slightly off center but the characters are even better. Frank the bookstore owner and confident Big Ben are my favorites. The one I could hear less of is Tempest's Mom. She reminds me of someone I know. I had originally both this thinking the books were paranormal investigations, it would have been fun to have at least one unsolved case.
I love this series! Each story builds on the last and the characters are simply fantastic. Steve Higgs has started a great plan, this series could have so many more books, so many monsters and bogeyman for him to prove false! Makes me miss the years we lived in England. Nothing quite like a series that can make you laugh out loud while reading in public!!!
I enjoyed this light hearted detective series with its nod to the paranormal making it amusingly different and easy to read.
I liked the progression of the unusual characters throughout the books (best to read in order ie start with the first ten book bundle) & their varying ways to debunk the paranormal explanations for the investigations they’re hired to solve.
Excellent holiday reading. (I read the digital version)
New characters join, old friends show up, tigers never change their stripes, and mystery after mystery is solved. With a brief stint in jail, Tempest continues to not exactly lead his merry band of misfits into one situation after another. Each story is told from the investigators' point of view, and as some actions are concurrent with others, the communication between them orients the reader in time and sequence.
What's not to love? Great plots (am always amazed by how each is different-how does Mr. Higgs come up with all of these ideas ?!? Lots of humor. Adorable dogs. Characters to love and hate, and some that make you just shake your head and laugh. My husband and I are seniors (I'm 82) and have read all of the Blue Moon set and dived right into this one. There was not one book of the 20 that I did not enjoy. I did lose some sleep because I had to read "just one more chapter!"
I have thoroughly enjoyed all of these stories! The Blue Moon Investigation Agency involves 3 investigators, and they each have cases in this bundle. Each can stand alone, but they are also easy to read end to end - I started out trying to make them last longer, but had to give in and keep reading until I finished! If you enjoy mysteries, don’t miss this set!
Steve Higgins writes a story that is hard to put down and leaves you wanting more. It is impossible for me to choose which of Mr. Higgins series is my favorite but Tempest Michael's and his "merry band" of unlikely sleuths creating the most appalling incidents that always get the job done in a very humorous manner put Blue Moon Investigations very high on my favorites list.
I really love these stories. The people are genuine and funny, (except the Mom makes me mental!). The stories make me think and it take awhile for me to see where it’s going. I enjoy that part. I hope there is more to come! Truly enjoyed! So glad you pushed forward with your dream Steve. Hope you will continue.
If the characters don't make you wonder then the laughs will get you. I got hooked with the storylines and wacky people they keep meeting. Although I grew enamored of the whole bunch. I kept trying to solve the mystery before they told me! Almost got it. Can't wait for the next book! Love this series.
I always think I know what is going to happen and then there is a twist that keeps me reading. Having so many books allows the reader to get to know the characters. Having just travelled to England I loved getting to submerge myself in the culture. My favorite is the mystery with a sprinkle of a love story.
I read these two 10 book series back to back. They were very entertaining and had great flow. I loved that each subsequent book picked up the timeline right after the previous book ended. It is a great premise a paranormal detective who does not believe in the paranormal and always finds a mundane explanation for the seemingly apparent paranormal event. They are fun books.
Steve Higgs has done it again with his second set of Blue Moon Investigations. This series is highly addictive. I really
enjoy the characters descriptions and interactions. The family dynamics between Tempest and his parents is hilarious and relatable. I hope there is a third Ten Book Bundle on the way. Keep them coming PLEASE!
The characters are so diverse in their reactions to situations & always keep you waiting for the next case they take on! The friends are always ready to assist the main character in whatever escapades he becomes involved in! Would definitely recommend to all my mystery reader friends!
These books are entertaining, and the author’s punctuation and capitalization have improved; however, please don’t use spellcheck. Invariably, the wrong homophones are used. brooch/broach reign/rein pique/peak These are just a few examples, all of which have been misused more than once. Yes, I’m that grumpy old lady who has worked as both an English teacher and a proofreader.
I have laughed and enjoyed these stories so much. A read the second set first but have already purchased the first set to read now. Can't wait to read the books the second set slides to and hopefully finish the series. If you have more, would love a note from Amazon or the author.
Love how diverse the stories are and how they focus on different characters. Each personality in the story is super well written and has unique strengths and weaknesses. Fast paced and engaging.
Mr. Higgs is able to develop characters and continue a good plot. I enjoy the humor and most of the characters except Tempest's mother who is over the top annoying. I enjoyed these books as much or more the first ten. 🙂
All the characters are well developed, growing in scope and fun to read. I love a mystery, and these books have provided mystery, intrigue, romance, and laughs. I believe you will enjoy them too.
I was lucky enough to to catch the second set on sale. I’d been watching for a price drop. Every time I thought I had it worked out I got a surprise. The only one I was half right about was the last one. I’ll be watching for future stories to go on sale.
I love to be able to read a series in order. I started out with Patricia Fisher books then Blue Moon and Rex series. Great imagination and storytelling. Waiting for more of both.
I couldn’t stop at one. I look forward to further Blue Moon adventures. I enjoy the stories being told from various viewpoints and the respect J. Butterworth is given. A little too much Mr. Wriggly at times, but I think I’d like to meet Big Ben.
