What does the color red signify to you? For me,it evokes the image of danger, caution, and excitement.Who does not love the color red.I love a good red lipstick,my favorite lip color as a matter of fact..it says "kiss me" to my husband ,so I wear it all the time!
Well the color red has meaning to the hero and heroine in this book. For Ari,the color red,is the heroine's hair color, and combined with the red of the heroine's lipstick,it was an attraction that was off the chart hot.The red lipstick was in my view of the heroine needing to put on a brave front to the outside world,it gave a measure of confidence that she desperately needed.
Ari and Perla meet on a night when they each needed oblivion. He from the memories and anniversary of his wife and unborn child's death and she from a sham marriage to a recently dead husband. They knew nothing of each others past when they gave in to a sizzling sexual attraction.Red again plays a part in their chemistry for they had sex for the first time on a red couch. These two burned up the couch and the floor. This was a ONS that they thought never to be repeated.Little did they know that 3 days later, they would meet up again at the funeral of her husband.Ari could not believe his eyes, the woman he was searching for is the wife of a past employee who is now dead.Stunned ,he lashes out and leaves thinking to not see her again.
They meet when she goes to his place of business to enquire about a life insurance policy .She needs the money for her in laws, otherwise the bank will foreclose on their home. Ari informs her the policy is null.
As far as attraction goes,it it still there and hotter than ever. They make love and Ari attempts to give her money ,she lashes out at him,how dare he offer her money. He offers her a job with his company instead, she accepts.
Wow,this book had me hooked right from the beginning.Their chemistry was sizzling .When the hero asks the heroine what her fav sexual position was and she said "doggy style" I was like ,whatttt! in a harley that term is used.( btw,the heroine was a virgin, that was the only position she could have thought about),there was also the term "junk" used by the heroine to describe the hero's penis.Never heard that term in a harley before too! All aside ,I enjoyed this book,it had the angsty elements that I love. The hero was alpha ,which again I love,he was also a tortured hero.He had "daddy" issues and he never came to grips with his deceased wife's death.Normally, that particular issuue would have been a major deal breaker with me.But the hero showed me by his actions and words that the heroine is his soul.He told the heroine that if people told her his first marriage was the love story of the century, then his lovestory with her would be the lovestory of the milenium,awwwww.
My gripe is I never knew the ages of the H/h,the hero had grey hair at the sides and how long ago did his wife died as the hero was celibate since wife#1 died. The heroine broke his spell.I give this a very strong 4.5 stars and would rec to my hp loving friends.

One night stand between a virgin widow and a grieving Greek Tycoon leads to bad feelings when the hero realizes the heroine's identity. Seems her hubby was embezzling from the hero's company to fund his drug-fueled debauched lifestyle while away on business. Hero is also guilty about his wife's death while pregnant with her first child.
When the heroine can't access her late husband's pension, the hero offers her a job as an events planner with his company.
The rest of the story concerns the H/h's backstories, cameos by the hero's brothers, fancy hotel related stuff and heroine's resistance to the hero's marriage proposal after falling pregnant.
It's all standard HP fare with many dollops of sex scenes.

A story filled with passion and sensuality.
a color that is so fitting in this really fabulous romantic tale.
From the red-haired heroine, Perla (I just luv her name)
to her lipstick
to the pomegranate martini she orders at the bar
And not forgetting the RED COUCH
where Perla and Arion first make love……….
Perla and Arion meet one night in a bar where both are trying to fill a void in their lives and within a short time give in to the attraction that they feel for each other. That’s where the red couch comes into the story…..they make love on it……and wow….it is hot and sexy……
…and very very adventurous….a virgin who wants “doggy” style the first time that she “does it”!!!!!!! And yes, this is a Mills & Boon novel!!!!!!!!! Pretty racy I say!!
I liked them both….although I thought Arion was a bit of a sh…….in the beginning. Really, offering Perla money after sex……….so not cool. And I so wanted Perla to stand up to him a bit more.
But in the end, both will have to overcome their issues, which they do, so that they can have their HEA.
Great dialogue.
I really liked this follow-up to the 1st book https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... in this trilogy of the 3 Pantelides brothers and I loved meeting up with Brianna and Sakis again – fabulous epilogue.
Can’t wait for Theo’s book.

Great love story. Both H/h are widowed but hero carries a lot of guilt and mourns the loss of both his wife and his unborn child. One night of passion has unexpected consequences so hero proposes marriage but Perla is reluctant. She feels they need to get past the bitterness and deal with the pain before they can move on. Also Aris is very tortured. Can Perla consider a future with him knowing he might never be emotionally available? Can their marriage work despite all their baggage?
This was an angsty and satisfying read and an emotional roller coaster!

‘But there is. Perla, I’m not a gentleman. Your panties are shredded at my feet and in the next sixty seconds I intend to be deep inside you.’
"What the Greek Can't Resist" is the story of Perla and Arion.
A mourning h meets a heartbroken H, and they have a super carnal bang bang night, only for the H to realize next day that she is the widow to his recently deceased sleazy employee. But does this mean that he can forget her luscious red hair, or ignore her? Nope. They engage in a sensual, forbidden dance, which inevitably repeatedly leads to more coitus, until a bun in the oven in discovered..
Likable, traumatized leads, SUPER hot sex, angst and a nice HEA.
Enjoyed it!

October 15, 2024DNF @ 45 % - this was already annoying with it starting as a ONS - with a virgin widow and the hero not even realizing the “surprise” - but the hero going on and on about losing his “most precious thing in the world” (his dead wife) was too much for me. Not my kind of OW drama.

Virgin widow but hero didn’t realize it while they had one night stand. He hated her when they met again at her thief husband funeral because he thought she had cheated her husband. Then he gave her a job and made her his mistress. Then pregnancy, little more angst and HEA.

A passionate read.
A neat storyline with a little twist: Young beautiful innocent virgin meets sexy handsome Alpha Greek and decides to have a one night fling only to discover that he is someone she can't forget. He comes storming back into her life over finding out she is a widow of one of his employees....and a scandal is brewing or is it?
A well-written read and an interesting plot from this author kept it from following that same old standard HP book. A very enjoyable book.

This story was just average for me. I didn't know the hero was going to be a widower who adored his now dead wife who was pregnant and daily lived with the guilt of her and the child's death when there was really nothing he could have done. Our heroine was blackmailed into a horrible marriage in which the groom informed her of some devestating news on their honeymoon. It was his own fault that he had passed away at such a young age and to top it off he left not a penny for his wife. His mother was permanently disabled in a wheel chair and his father gave up his job to care for her. The four of them lived together but now without a penny they were going to lose their home.
It was a few days before the heroine's husband's funeral that she stops for a drink at a nice bar, something that she has never done before, and there is a gorgeous man who catches her eye. The hero is drawn to her immediately. She ended up spending the night with said man (the hero) and could see the pain in his eyes. It was the anniversary of his wife's and baby's death. But two days later he sees her at the funeral of one of his deceased employees and when he learns she was this dead man's wife he is furious and calls her every name in the book...yes even the really bad ones. Why are these alpha-heroes always so quick to judge. and place blame?
They don't see each other for three months until she is left with no other choice but to go talk to HR at her deceased husband's employer because she and his parents had yet to receive their portion of his insurance policy. Her main concern was not for herself but his parents and the bank was ready to foreclose.
When the hero finally understands that the woman he took to his bed that one unforgetable night was a virgin he is shocked stupid and doesn't know how it can be. It is then he changes his tune about her.
This is not a story-line I enjoy reading about and I hurt for the heroine who felt she would always be the runner up, second place, the boobie prize for this man. It takes a long time for things to turn around...and here is what gets me. As soon as he realizes he loves her, which was almost at the very end, presto-chango he then automatically knows he has loved her since the first night he met her. WOW...he sure didn't treat her that way.
This was fair but it isn't one that I would read again. Actually if I had know the H was widowed and had a great wife I would never have read it.

Yet another great read from Maya Blake that had the perfect balance of romance, sexual tension, emotion, love-hate relationship angst, and pain from the past coming from both sides. All these themes came together to create a very enjoyable love story that was a bit of a roller coaster ride. Add to the fact that I enjoyed both the characters of Arion and Perla, and you get one great romance that I immediately got sucked in from page one and continued onto the very end with me rooting for both characters to get their happily after especially having had hard pasts that the had to overcome.
One thing that I was really happy about in this book was the factor of time and how the story was paced out. From the back blurb, it was already stated that Arion and Perla had an incredible one night stand that neither could forget, but once Arion learned the truth about Perla and the fact she was about to bury her husband, who wasn't even cold in the ground before she slept with Arion. Once Arion learned the truth, he instantly distrusted Perla and "hated" her guts, as it was suggested in the synopsis. It also mentioned that she wound up pregnant with his child.
Now if this was any other Harlequin Presents, the story could have easily began where Perla found out she was pregnant and she was about to come to Arion to tell him that she was pregnant with his child despite the fact that she knew that he hated her guts then the story would take off from there. That's a typical formula Presents novels, and I believed that was going to be the case here and we would perhaps see flashbacks of that incredible night that she shared, but luckily that wasn't the case. Maya Blake made an incredible decision in how she started this story and developed it along the way, and I was so glad of the decision because it showed more emotional what Arion and Perla were going through during the time they spent together, mainly grief and desire and instant connection that neither one of them could understand. So Maya Blake set up the story perfectly I thought in my opinion, beginning literally in the beginning when Arion and Perla first met and took off from their to their very steamy love scene that happened shortly after they met. Then after the scene, we go to Perla's husband's funeral where Arion learned the truth about her identity that she was recently widow and her husband worked for Arion and his brothers' company and was the man responsible for near disaster for the company, so Arion didn't have a favorable reaction to the man and an even less than favorable one to Perla and cursed her especially when he believed they shared something special for one another, but he believed he was wrong and thought she was just out for quick lay and that was it. So that confrontation took place at the funeral and hate ensuing from his pores.
Then Maya Blake jumped three months in time to when they met again with sparks and passion still flying between he two and then the story just took off from there. So I liked that time jump where and thought it was a brilliant choice. I was glad to be shown their first time scene, the meeting, the confrontation, etc. and I was really glad it was in there it just added more depth and emotion to book I thought because the reader got to see it first hand. It also showed with the passage of time that they were still thinking about each other even three months later and their passion hadn't waned from one another for a single second even though they wanted it to due to circumstances. So there was that friction and tension when they met again and just all the build up after all that time parted. I could feel it come off the pages for sure. So that was great, and am glad that Maya Blake made that choice because it made the story stronger.
If you have read my reviews in the past, you know that I am not a big fan of stranger sex because I like some anticipation leading into that moment before they consummate their relationship. Now some authors know how to do stranger sex really well and not have me mind it so much or be against or have me roll my eyes at the scene or just for simple fact that I wasn't prepared for it so how could the characters or even the lack of believability that it can create with the characters seeing each other across the room then booming hoping into bed together. Don't like those stories. I like anticipation and angst and I think that's what makes a romance novel great and successful by having those things and have their sexual attraction grow and grow until it explodes on the pages plus it increases the readers appetite for the scene that is coming our way. Now with scene in this particular book, I knew it needed to happen to set up the book later down the line, and their first time scene was blazing hot and steamy to say the least. And I absolutely loved the passion and heat between the two because as soon as they met and had that face to face interaction sparks flew between them with each of the jibbing off the other to make it humorous yet hinted at desires deep within them just blazing under the surface until the passion exploded with underlying issues of grief for both of them. Now was I necessarily ready for the scene happening so soon, not really, but I wasn't against it either. I was kind neutral about the quickness of the love making scene. Don't get me wrong I thought it was hot and I was glad it was in there and showed how much chemistry they had between with the love scene going into a lot of delicious detail that had the pulse racing, but I just wasn't sure if I liked it or not to happen too soon. Again kind of neutral and didn't have a strong reaction either way when usually in situations like this I do. I think partly because I was expecting to see their one night together happen at all and thought we would be just fast forwarded in the story with the pregnancy coming to light so made that's why I don't have a feeling about it or I was just more surprised than anything, but it just wasn't for or against it.
Now the chemistry between the two was off the charts as I stated above. That first scene was wickedly steamy and vivid and I just went on that ride right along with them. And I think what was good about the first time was that it was about something more than just wanting to get let and get their physical release that their body needed. No, there were emotions behind it, maybe not all positive emotions but emotions just the same to make that scene deeper and richer and more layered that just simply slaking of lust going on. That first time for both of them, changed them and made them realize that their lives need changes. That love scene was just the catalyst for so much I thought, emotionally. With Perla, she felt complete and a sense connection that she never felt before and wanted to keep Arion close to her and never loose that feeling. Plus her starting to care for Arion on a deeper level as well even that early on. With Arion it was sort of the same, he felt a connection to her and believed their night was special and was more than quick roll in the hay. In fact, he spent time looking for her after she disappeared after their night together and determined to experience their love making once more. Of coarse when he did meet up to her again, all hell broke loose, but that didn't decrease the chemistry and sexual tension between the two of them and it carried them all the way through and hung over their head with this sexual tension wafting around them, thereby in increase the anticipation between the two and carried through. It just hung there and it was delicious and the passion for them wasn't a problem. No way.
I will say just a little thing I was disappointed the last love scene, which I would have liked to see be more vivid and more detailed like the first scene was. Instead it felt too quick to me with just maybe page or so of summary of what was happening and what they were feeling briefly. I wanted to see that more and just seem how much their feelings grew from the first to this one the last scene. I wanted to see more of that emotional connection between them on a personal level during that scene and just feel that all consuming love they had for one another even though they had yet to admit to one another. But it wasn't a big deal, but I just wished for a longer last time scene in the book.
Along with the sexual tension that occurred between Arion and Perla there was also an emotional intensity to their story as well with the big reason for that being their own painful backstories and the pain they both faced in their pasts. Mainly their marriages and the hurt that they inflicted on them and effected how they dealt with each other in the present. . So there were deep emotional scars there for both of them and I just loved it was explored and again upped the ante for the intensity of the story. It just makes a story so much better. Plus when you hurt for the characters and feel bad for them and what they had gone through then you know the story is heading in a good direction like this one was. All that yummy angst was in there and it was just the perfect amount to balance the emotional part of the story along with the sexual tension piece, which was great.
I really enjoyed Arion as a character. He was every bit of a Greek alpha as you can imagine and he was ever so yummy. But despite that he was an alpha male, he wasn't an ass like some alpha can be where it makes them unlikable or they have to do some major groveling before the reader could ever be on their side. Was Arion cruel at times to Perla? Yes, but he did that out of a place of hurt. Was it right some of the things he said to her? No. Could I forgive him? Yes because I could see where he was coming from and where he was hurting and how he felt so betrayed by her once learning her identity after believing they had something special. But again he wasn't an overbearing jerk or unrootable where the reader doesn't like him. Instead I liked him very much and felt sorry for him and what he went through in his life. Plus he showed a softer and tender side of himself when it came to Perla and just showed how much cared for her, and he did this not at the end but near the middle of book, showing he didn't just see as a quick way to get rid of his lust. And I knew he had the capacity to love Perla if he gave it a chance. It showed he had a heart and had feelings for her even if he wasn't ready to admit it to himself. He cared. He emotions going on that raged through him, and just had layers and layers hidden beneath the surface. That's what makes a character three dimensional and makes the story feel more real and rich.
I liked character of Perla as well. She was extremely likable, and I liked how they described her red hair and how Arion was completely obsessed with it, I don't why. For a moment I thought because that was perhaps his late wife's hair color and that was why he was drawn to her, but it wasn't, which was a good thing because maybe I would have rethought my feelings on his character if that was a case because he would have been using Perla as a substitute for his dead wife and I wouldn't have liked that. Anyway she was a very sweet girl with many deep emotional scars. All she wanted from life was to be loved and to love someone else just as deeply. She wanted what she never had as a child growing up in the foster care system, feeling like she was unwanted all of her life then when her marriage turned to sham as well that just added even more emotional hurts to her. Then she met Arion and he also inflicted pain on her. So I really felt for her and wanted her to get her happily ever after. She didn't deserve all that was handed to her in life and feel like she was nothing and worthless. But I also loved how she gained strength throughout the book and refused to Arion's doormat and do whatever he wanted and following blindly behind him. No she learned her lesson from he first marriage and she refused to be that way again, which was great. I was glad to see her growth from the beginning where was a little timid and less than confidant person to this confidant person that was ready to stand up for what she believed and what she wanted. It was great to see that growth and it was because of her knowing Arion that changed her.
Actually the both changed because they knew each other and come into each other lives when they both needed one another. I loved that love gave them the strength to grow and change and become better people. I loved seeing them grow together as a couple and be stronger and healthier people. They needed one another to become better people, and their relationship taught them that. Mainly it taught them that they couldn't let the past haunt them and in order to have a great future together they needed to heal those wounds. And that was great.
Really I loved the way that Maya Blake developed relationship between Arion and Perla and made it totally believable. It just made sense how they came to fall in love and be able to have this successful relationship in the future. The pacing was just really good and it wasn't just all about the physical and their attraction to one another but the emotional as well, and I thought that was really well done. I also liked how it took time for them to open to one another and reveal those past hurts to one another and showing how it wasn't easy for either one of them to be vulnerable to another person, but the learned in time that they could, and it made them stronger people not weaker. It was a steady build up and growing and growing until finally they were deeply in love with one another. Just the romance was really well written I thought.
Despite this being book two in Maya Blake's The Untamable Greeks series, I read this one first despite the fact I do have book number one on my shelf, but when I read the back blurb of this one I just felt this was going to be an angsty and an emotional roller coaster ride that was high in intensity. And I was right it was and it was worth reading, but I will say with the appearance of Brianna and Sakis, the couple in book one, it made me interested in reading the story and just how their love story played out because they just seemed totally enamored and in love with each other. I'm hoping since I read this one first that it won't detract from book number one since I know they get their happily ever after, not that I didn't know they would after all this is Present series after all, but I am just hoping that it is okay I am reading these out of order. But I look forward to their story and hope it was as good as Arion and Perla's story. And I also look forward to reading Theo and Inez story in book three with the couple appearing at the end of this book. It added a little intrigue to their story as well, and hopefully I will like this one as well. But I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series, hopefully will finish it sometime this year. We will see.
Maya Blake did it again and created this wonderful story between two broken people that needed love in order to heal. There were plenty of angst and emotional moments as well as tender and passionate ones. Combine that with these rich three dimensional characters that had their own painful pasts that they had to come to grips with and you have a winner. It was just great balance between all the elements and meshing together to create this love story that was an emotional intense roller coaster ride, which are stories I love. I want to feel that rawness and feel what the characters are feeling and I want to hurt along with them and Maya Blake certainly accomplished that in spades. It was just a really good story I thought and very well written and will definitely get the juices flowing and possible a tear or two gathering in the corner of your eye. Just prepare the your emotions for this one because it will definitely heighten it and give you pains your chest as well as moments of pulse pounding heat along the way. You will definitely root for Arion and Perla by the end of the story. So well done Maya Blake, keeping creating winners like this one.

Well, I think maybe my reading tastes have changed as I just don't enjoy HPs like I used to like them. Or it could be the books. I'm not sure. I've only read two recently. Maybe I just need to read some more to get back that old enjoyment.
I liked this book but I wasn't wowed by it. The book wasn't bad, was a good book but nothing really stood out for me.
I'll keep reading more HPs hoping I can find that old pizzazz!

Yuk dibaca.

Yet another Hookup turned romance HP. I wanted to like What the Greek Couldn't Resist but never felt this story was compelling so I gave up at the half point.
What I liked- the hero was wealthy; the heroine was a virgin widow. Haven't come across that in ages! The drama was angsty.
What I didn't like- the hero kept apologizing everytime he said something mean to the heroine. It was like the author didn't want him to be too bad. It failed to impress me. It made the hero into a bland character who lacked the balls to put the heroine through the emotional ringer. On the flip side, the heroine had no problem challenging the hero all the freaking time. That got annoying fast. A major reason I gave up attempting to finish.

2-2.5 stars *with a very heavy heart
I love Maya Blake, but this book just wasn't IT for me.

And it might be just me, not the book, but I hate it with passion when a romance starts with a ONS.
I hate just that. Period.
And with the weak heroine, so unlike the Maya Blake heroines I love, and the hero who kept rambling on about his dead ex and how much he loved her till the very last possible moment?
Yeah, let's just say I wasn't really 100% convinced that these two actually belong together.
Maybe like 80%, i'll give them that.

All in all, it was the first read from Blake I didn't enjoy so much. But hey, there's a first for everything, right?
I still love Maya and will read everything she writes. But this book? Let's just pretend I never read it and move on.
If you want a really great one from this author, I suggest The Price of Success.
I loooooooved that one.

I really enjoyed this romance. The passion, and simmering chemistry between Arion and Perla, could be felt throughout the pages of this book. I loved the way the author Maya Blake, let us know the thoughts and feelings from both Arion, and Perla from their point of view.
Arion was grieving the loss of a loved one. In his mind, he knew Perla should be grieving the loss of her husband. He judged her wrongly. There was a force that he couldn't control that kept pulling him to the stunning, beautiful spit fire red head.
I loved the unexpected twist to the story. This was not the typical, (He got her pregnant, he must marry her) kind of book. This plot offered so much more. I don't want to ruin the book for you, so I'm trying to keep my review as vague as possible. I will just say this book had suspense, red hot passion, a pregnancy, and romance. Perla made the perfect heroine. she had a hard childhood. It only made her stronger . She was not one that gave in easily. In the beginning I really didn't like Arion. He quickly redeemed himself. He was a alpha Greek man. The Greek men always comes across strong, and harsh, but once you get to know them, they have a tender touch. I loved the way he took care of Perla, and really cared for her.
This was a book I was waiting for its release. It did not disappoint.

Strong start finished with a whimper. I was disappointed. The attempt at the beginning to create a sense of mystery failed, that aside it hooked my interest but about a third into the book it seemed to meander. Frankly for two people who were trying to avoid each other it became farcical. This is from someone well used to the 'avoid' and 'resist' HP double speak.

Nice read. Hero and heroine meet up when they're both under the influence of strong emotions, including guilt, and have a one night stand to forget their problems, then he shows up at her husband's funeral. He's her late husband's boss, and her husband was a crook who embezzled and crashed a ship. Or something. I wasn't sure. Nor did I quite figure out why the hero got so mad when he learned who she was. The heroine didn't seem to get it either, which is probably why I didn't. This is very close to an old school romance with everything in the confused, naive heroine's point of view, though we do get the hero's POV on occasion. It has some really nice scenes, but they didn't seem to hang together all that well. Still, it was nice.

Red hot attraction between the hero and heroine right from the start until he finds out that she had been recently widowed after attending her husband's funeral. Arion feels deceived but it doesn't stop that hot spark of attraction that ensues whenever they're in the same room! Thoroughly enjoyed this one. This little mini series on the hold about the Pantelides brothers!
