What it is about
Chase Alspeth wants to make beautiful science and gets the job offer of a lifetime. Her narcissistic boss hands her the new project, but she quickly realises how shady it really is – not just shady, but very illegal. She has to tell someone; this can’t go on; it is wrong...
What I liked
Oh, I loved the setting of Bone Dresser. Chase works in a lab where actual people are fabricated, since no one is actually born anymore.
The beginning was a bit slower, but not boring. It picked up speed from the middle and was like a whirlwind from there. I felt for Chase throughout the whole novel. I rooted for her, and I was so nervous from the midpoint on, like I was there. It was fun and deep at the same time.
And the ending had me open-mouthed, gaping at the page...
What I didn’t like as much
At times I wasn’t so sure about the layout and some of the technicalities of the lab Chase works in. Everything is super monitored, but sometimes Chase does things that should have been noticed at some point.
Chase is nearly blinded by her handheld so often; doesn't she know dark mode?
I’m being petty here, but I can’t stand characters dropping their food in books. Like, you just lost your breakfast, and you just keep going with your day? No, sorry.
I loved this book and how it dragged me through this heist. Some little things absolutely didn’t change that.
Final Words
This novel is fun, action-packed and deep. In the end it makes me wonder what it takes to be human if we were fabricated in a lab.
The ending and the twists were the best thing about it.
I loved it just as much as Vincenty’s last novel, and I can’t wait to see more.
