Denise Hunter is the award-winning author of more than 40 novels, three of which have been adapted into Hallmark movies.

Denise writes heartwarming, small-town romances, peopled with layered characters who have real-life issues. Her readers enjoy the vicarious thrill of falling in love and the promise of a happily-ever-after sigh as they savor the final pages of her books.

In 1996, Denise began her first novel, writing while her children napped. Two years later it was published, and she's been writing ever since. Her books contain a strong romantic element, and her husband says he provides all her romantic material, but Denise insists a good imagination helps too!

Denise and her husband live in Indiana, where they raised three sons, and are currently enjoying an empty nest.

This one was just a fun, feel-good story about a marriage of convenience when the bride gets jilted at the altar and her entire career is on the line. This is exactly the sort of book I want when I pick up a Denise Hinter book—light and cozy with a happy ending. :)

This has to be one of my favorite books, a ‘top ten’ hit! What girl doesn’t like the idea of a handsome groom swooping in to the rescue?

“The Convenient Groom” has an amazing premise. Talk about romance! The hero is simply delicious, talk about attraction- and I’m not necessarily referring to the heroine. *grin*

As the attraction grows between Lucas and Kate, the tension feels like two opposing magnets. They get closer and closer until the reader is literally holding her breath and then something rips them apart.

My favorite scene in the entire story is when Kate finds herself snuggling with Lucas (they are married), but what ensues is just laugh-out-loud funny! You have to read the book to find out more, but let me say this…it sizzles and the humor…oh my.

What I love the most about this book though is the message. The message of God’s love being all encompassing no matter what we might do. Yes, the romance makes my fingers quiver from the pulse of my heart as I read and I laugh out more than once, but it’s the story within the story that makes it powerful.

This book is one of the very best, among my top favorites (and I don’t say that about many books). You won’t be disappointed! Highly recommended!!!

This review is my honest opinion. Thanks to the publishers for my copy to review.

Kate Lawrence, or "Dr. Kate," is ready to have her big day: not only is she finally getting married, her book is being released. What kind of book? A book about love, relationships, dating, and marriage. This "expert" is, however, about to be shamed in front of the world because her intended groom, Bryan Montgomery is a no show. Not only is he getting cold feet and backing out, he is shacking up with another woman, Stephanie. (He actually calls her when he's in this woman's bed.) What's a girl to do when she's got everything prepared for the big day except the groom? Well, if she's the heroine of a fiction novel, she's going to find another groom, and quickly. Luckily her friend, Lucas, is there to step into place.

Lucas is excited to be the groom, in fact, because he's secretly loved Kate from afar. But can this marriage of convenience transition into the real thing? Or will someone who knows the truth spill the beans? Will Kate's book be a success or a flop? Will Kate realize how useless she is in this love game? Will she see what a great man Lucas is and stop whining and pining for Bryan?

I liked this one well enough. It was cute in places. And Lucas sounded like a great guy.

But. And this really has nothing to do with the quality of the story itself. I just found myself questioning why this book was 'Christian.' It's published by a Christian publishing house, yes. And it is mostly smut-free. I mean the reader knows that Bryan is carrying on an affair behind-the-scenes. And it's never exactly stated one way or the other if Bryan had been intimate with Kate in the past. I presumed as much since the topic of her virginity never came up. But I don't know what the author intended. So don't take my word for it by any means. And any intimacies that occur between Kate and Lucas happen after the 'I do's' even if those occur before any declarations of love. So I don't have a problem necessarily with the content. It's more what is not in the book.

Not all Christian books have a focus on God, on having a personal relationship with Jesus as Savior and/or Lord. But usually, there is something--even if it's not the main focus of the book. No mention of God. No mention of personal faith. No church. No bible study. No bible reading. No prayers. No spiritual insights or 'aha' moments when she realizes that she needs God or wants God. We have a slightly shallow woman who is trying to do it all and be it all without seeking God, without turning to Him. There is nothing in the pages of this book that would give the reader any indication that the characters were Christian excepting the fact that it's a Christian publisher that some may recognize as such...and excepting page 299 where the author's note to the reader mentions that Lucas's love for Kate is meant to represent Christ's love for us. That Jesus can be any woman's knight in shining armor. A statement that leaves me slightly puzzled.

A cute concept, but could have been executed a little better. As with most of Hunter's books, I found myself really disliking the female lead for most of the book and loving the male lead. I wish we would've seen more of their relationship before the marriage because I never really understood why Lucas loved Kate already. I didn't like how she treated him for pretty much the whole book. But, I did like the Happily Ever After.

Pretty good, but I'll admit that I mostly liked this story for the hero. I'm not quite sure why, but I just found the heroine hard to like... But the plot was enjoyable (if not entirely believable).

What would you do if you were a relationship expert on finding the right mate - with a syndicated column and a book due to be released on your wedding day - and your fiance jilts you five hours before the wedding? This is the dilemma that Kate Lawrence faces in The Convenient Groom: A Nantucket Love Story. This is the touching story of a woman who finds out that she has much to learn about love, and the man who continues to love her through all of her ups and downs.

Kate Lawrence's personal and professional life are on the verge of collapse as her fiance announces a few hours before the wedding that he is in love with another woman. Kate's publisher planned her wedding to coincide with her book release on finding the perfect spouse, and now the world will know how she abysmally failed at choosing her own mate. Kate knows that not only will she have to deal with heartbreak, but also with the collapse of her career when the news is made public. Kate's professional life is salvaged as Lucas Wright, her landlord, steps up and offers to marry her. Kate's publicist has withheld the name of the groom from the media so Lucas' offer sounds like a lifeline to Kate, and she agrees to a temporary marriage. What Kate doesn't know is that the only reason Lucas married her is because of the unrequited love he has for her. As Kate and Lucas settle into their platanic marriage, she rebuffs most of his attempts to become closer. As complete opposites, Kate knows that she and Lucas could never be happy together on a permanent basis. When Kate finally starts to relax with Lucas, events unfold that cause her professional life to crash. As Kate tries to pick up the pieces of her life, she has much to learn about love.

This was an enjoyable book with a wonderfully sweet hero. Lucas loves Kate throughout the book and will do anything to protect and help her. Kate was a mostly likeable heroine, but there were times when I became impatient with her unswavering refusal to see what she really had with Lucas. When I first read about this book, it was listed as a Christian romance. There is nothing overtly Christian in the book, but the author's letter in the back describes Lucas' love for Kate as an allegory for Christ's love for us. If you like a sweet romance with a bit of angst, this one is for you.

Oh my goodness, I absolutely loved this story! This marriage of convenience tale in a modern setting was funny, romantic and engaging from cover to cover. In this story Dr. Kate, a marriage counsellor and writer about to launch her book Finding Mr. Right-for-You, is jilted at the altar. However, Lucas Wright (loved the last name choice!) steps in as her "convenient groom", and though she denies it she can't help but start falling for him after their first kiss. I could not stop reading it!

I've never read anything by Denise Hunter before but I'll be looking for her books from here on out :)

Oh, Lucas <3 This was a good change of pace for me... especially because of all the more "serious" books I've been reading lately. I thought the plot was well developed... Denise definitely tied everything together quite well. I think what I love most about this book was the "initial" interaction between Kate and Lucas. I just adore love stories that happen between irritated characters... in this case, Kate was the only one annoyed. I loved Lucas from the get-go. I mean let's be honest... he's tall, has longish hair, broad-shouldered, and he's a carpenter/builder. WHAT?!?!?! Okay, I know I'm being ridiculous, but I can't help it.
This was another well written piece by Denise Hunter. I have quite a few favorite parts in this book that had me down right laughing and swiping tears from the corners of my eyes... I'm probably not the only one who laughed out loud at the cuddling scene. I continually replay it in my mind and it's just as funny as the first time I read it... Can't wait to read the rest of her work!

This book wasn't for me. It was cute and kind of fun but I prefer my romance to be somewhat credible. Otherwise, my brain starts to nag me with questions like: "tell me again why [character name] might think it was a good idea to do this?"

Kate is a published author and romantic relationship guru extraordinaire. Her advice has helped hundreds of people find love or settle their relationship problems. Now it's her turn. On the same date as the launch of her new book, she is marrying her fiancé Bryan. The wedding is going to be perfect. Kate is just finalizing some last minute details with Lucas, the carpenter she hired to build a gazebo for the ceremony. She is interrupted by a call from Bryan. He's not coming. He's in love with another woman. He's so sorry but he can't go through with it. Kate hangs up and sees everything that she has built crumbling to pieces. Not only has she lost the man she was going to build a future with: being left at the altar will damage her credibility and possibly even end her career.

Lucas overhears Kate's phone call. He offers her an unconventional solution: why doesn't he stand in for Bryan and marry her? That way, he can save her career and she can help his mom and dad fix their marriage. As crazy as it might sound, it seems better than the alternative so Kate accepts.

Lucas is in love with Kate. He's known her for a while but he never made a move because she was engaged. His parents don't have a difficult marriage. He just made that up so that he didn't have to confess his feelings for her and because he knew she would be less uncomfortable with an exchange of favors than a one-sided agreement. Now, he has to figure out how to convince her to make their marriage real.

If you don't think about this too much, it seems to make sense. If you do though...

Some would argue that marriages of convenience are not a common practice in today's ultra-modern society. But nothing could be further from the truth. It is a common practice as it might have been in times past. The only difference, perhaps, lies in the fact that no one talks about it openly while it remains an open-secret. And mind you, no one is naïve enough to admit it. But marriage as a commodity is of high value.

Award-winning author Denise Hunter comes up with an exciting Christian romance certain to keep you glued to the pages till the very end. Published by Thomas Nelson, The Convenient Groom is an inspiring story of healing, hope, and enduring love set in romantic Nantucket.

Imagine yourself as celebrity marriage counselor Dr. Kate Lawrence. Imagine that you are just five hours away from your dream beach wedding. Imagine that your book Finding Mr. Right-for-You is to hit the stands in a few hours' time. Imagine that you have created such an image for yourself that the New York Times is sending a reporter and a photographer just to cover your wedding. Imagine the excitement and the pulse pumping furiously. Imagine...

Imagine your groom-to-be calling you, and saying, "I can't marry you," but adding an ironic "I'll always care about you."

The Convenient Groom follows the shame, hurt and dilemma that faces Dr. Kate Lawrence when her Mr. Right backed out of the wedding. It is no ordinary situation to be in. A relationship expert with a syndicated column, the last-minute cancellation of her own wedding would be the end of her career.
How can a person who failed at choosing her own mate offer to give advice to others?

The book is also about healing, forgiveness and discovering true love in the most unlikely places. A farce was enacted conveniently with the wedding taking place as arranged and things went smoothly until the lover who jilted Kate for another girl jilted her too.

Everything went up in smoke. Will Kate survive it? And what about the convenient groom? How will their story unfold?

If you are into a clean romance with an interesting story-line, this one is for you.

I am a huge Denise Hunter fan and I so don't know how I missed THE CONVENIENT GROOM when it first came out. I became aware of it's existence when it was made into a Hallmark movie and I promoted that on my blog, letting all those lucky people who had Hallmark channel on TV know -- I don't have TV. Ugh. Color me green.

So knowing the book is always better than the movie (if the book came first) I went looking for it. And yes, I did buy it, but I didn't buy it from Amazon so it will not say I'm a verified buyer. Again, ugh.

THE CONVENIENT GROOM was just as amazing as I knew it would be. Lucas was literally a dear, and so swoon-worthy, Kate was shattered, didn't know which way was up and was grasping at a life-saver to save everything -- her reputation, her career, her sanity.

Dr. Kate had a lot of intelligent advice, but she didn't know what true love was -- she found her perfect mate and emotions weren't involved. That was my thought when she was stunned by her reactions to Lucas. You know, sometimes you know something in your head, but your heart has different ideas, She had a lot to learn.

The book did end with some lingering questions, but it was sweet, swoon-worthy, and sigh -- a sad moment when I closed the cover. Now I found the movie is available for sale -- and I'll get to see it after all. Yay. If you missed this book, grab it now. THE CONVENIENT GROOM. Other books in the series are Surrender Bay, THE CONVENIENT GROOM, Seaside Letters and Driftwood Lane

**Re Reading NOW in June 2016 and loving it all over again!! When starting this book, can't put it down until I've read the first 50 pages :) ** (originally read May 22, 2015) finished once again and would give it ANOTHER five stars!!

**this book is being made into a HALLMARK movie, coming in JUNE!!!!! MUST SEE :) See Denise Hunter's author page on facebook for details**

Wow, what a wonderful book! Reminded me A LOT of the movie, While You Were Sleeping with Sandra Bullock (one of my absolute faves) :) Kate gets dumped hours before her wedding and even though she marries Lucas as a last minute solution, she is questioning herself throughout. Her heart is tremendous and I just loved her in this story! Lucas IS a hero, but he also has a wonderful family that fully supports Kate even though his parents weren't even at the wedding since it was so last minute arranged. However, his family accepts her as one of their own and I was touched more than once seeing how much they love Kate. Also, couldn't STAND Dylan, a loser from the beginning but he is so well written as an unlikable character.

I almost read this in one sitting, I simply had to see what happened next, LOOOOOOVE when that happens :) THIS is the type of romance book that really blesses me and the kind of sweetness I want to read in all romance books. I got this copy from the library, but I might buy it. Highly recommended! *can't wait to read Married 'til Monday*

This book wasn't to impressive. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.
The main characters, Kate and Lucas, didn't interest me at all. They weren't, in my opinion, very interesting.
This book is not meant for young girls. There is definitely mature content that I won't advise anyone to read. It is not terrible, but I don't love it. I don't recommend this book, and would rate it a one and a half star if I could.
I would also disclose a warning that by mature content I mean that they definitely talk about sex, and involves a before and after the dead kind of thing. I find this completely inappropriate and not clean, so I hope this helps you decide whether to read it or not.

The Convenient Groom is the second in the Nantucket Love Story series by Denise Hunter. It can easily read as a stand-alone novel (I realized I started with book two 🤦).

I listened to this in one day, and I loved it. This book brought out all the emotions. There were times I was yelling at Kate for the decisions she was making. However, other times I was laughing. I liked Kate, but not as much as I loved Lucas. He is so sweet, tender, and just about perfect.

This is a marriage of convenience, friends to more story. It was predictable, but so incredibly sweet. Also, I absolutely loved the cover of the book!!

I was surprised I liked this book so much! I didn't give it much chance and almost didn't read it. Contemporary romance is not my thing. But I really liked this book! It was clean without any religion attached to it.The characters were good, the main character you don't like but understand there are reasons for what she does and I liked watching her change as the book progressed. It is an adult read because of sex but it is all behind closed doors and it is implied not spelled out. I will be checking out more by this author.

A wonderfully written book about what it could be like to enter marriage for the sake of of convenience and learning to trust and love the person no matter what. This was a very relatable book in that it shows how many of us are broken by things we see around us and how love is easily broken but we can't live our lives with the fear of falling. In the end we may find that the situations or things we believed happened may not be the truth and may be just what we perceived as the truth. Definitely a must read!

I thought this was a fairly conventional romance story, though it's housed in the "inspirational" section of the local public library. The only markedly Christian element I saw was a set of discussion questions in the back that linked the male protagonist's love for the female one with Christ's love for mankind.

Nonetheless, I don't see this as especially compelling for YA's, as compared to a great many OTHER romances written for and about adults.

I loved this book. I found myself getting very involved with the characters, and very emotionally involved about 3/4 through the book. I noticed this book was by the same author as "A Cowboys Touch" which I also really liked, so that's why I chose this one to read as well, and I'm glad I did. My thanks to Aimee for loaning it to me!

I liked it. One of my favorite tropes. I liked how there was some real life touches, like a messy spouse and small house (neither were secret billionaires). What I didn’t like is the hero’s unwillingness to ever tell the heroine he loves her. He just keeps thinking “she must know cause I kissed/hugged/looked at her longingly. It’s so annoying that he NEVER directly talks to her. And he keeps expecting her to ask/tell him something. Like he can be totally opaque but think he’s being clear and instead of acting/talking clearly, he puts out some clues and expects her to do the hard actions. Ugh.

Also, as much as I’m a Christian, the faith aspects don’t weave seamlessly into the story but stand out. It feels like an afterthought that jars me out of the story.

I searched out a second book by Denise Hunter after reading Sweetwater Gap and liking it ... and this book was even better!!! It was well-written, entertaining, and funny. Kate Lawrence, well known marriage counselor, is ready to celebrate the publication of her book Finding Mr. Right For You and has found her Mr. Right and is getting married ... when the worse happens. He changes his mind on the day of the wedding. What! ... Feeling desperate, Kate accepts Lucas Wright's offer to step in as groom ... and so begins this fun story of all that can go wrong and eventually right when lies and deception come into play.... Get ready for a fun and inspirational story with this one!
