Once a year, the werewolves hunt. Once a year, the humans surrender. The mating run is a primal tradition—a night when wolves give in to their instincts, hunting down human mates to claim. Evan has spent his life avoiding it, hiding his secrets, his desires… and the fear that, deep down, he wants to be caught.
This year, he has no choice. Forced into the hunt, he runs for his life.
But the moment that older alpha wolf Silas scents him, the game is over.
Silas is relentless. Possessive.
And he believes that Evan is his fated mate.
Caught is a high-heat knotty wolf shifter/human romance with a HEA. It's part of the Mating Run series, but can be read as a spicy little standalone.
never thought i’d say this, but for a novella, the smut dragged (and not in a good way). there were only two smut scenes, and both of them were basically the same thing. in short, silas and evan played a game of chase, silas catches evan and they have sex, the pack is watching as they do it, blah, blah, blah. very repetitive. also, there wasn’t much dirty talk, which was odd to me. yeah, they’ll say stuff here and there, but once again, it’s the same dialogue from the previous smut scene. i wish the author would have switched it up a bit because silas and evan definitely had potential. silas was already freaked out, but he could’ve showed out more.
only good thing about this book is that i learned more about knotting, so that was nice :p
There’s not much to say about this book because it’s basically porn with almost no plot. If you like mating hunts with primal play scenes and fated mates this may be for you but I’m undecided hence the 3 star rating. I can’t say I’m eager to read anymore in this series but for a short read I liked it enough. That said I did fall asleep twice trying to read an 80 page book sooo I may be rating this too high. 😂😂
Another one off the GR recs. Short and fairly forgettable. A human trying to hide his desires and sacrificing himself for his friend, an alpha locked in to the fated mate scent. Primal play short.

For being smexy times, this was well written and I absolutely would have loved to see their year together between the their first time and the epilogue! Silas and Evan have got some chemistry going on!
Let me make one thing clear before we get into this review. This author has a lot of books. Whether this book in particular is their first rodeo or not, I don't know. But because there are so many, and most of them are to my taste, I will be checking them out because they've probably grown as an author since this came out (fingers crossed). Now, on to the not so kind review hence why I'm rounding up.
Let's talk about the writing really quick because it's kind of the only positive thing I have to say. It's well done. I wouldn't say it's pretty necessarily, but it is very atmospheric and really sets the tone. And while I personally wouldn't call this dark (because I have issues), that tone provides a very forbidding feeling throughout the story. You know something bad is going to happen. You just don't know what, how, and because the pacing is so atrocious, when. Can you tell I'm done being nice.
Here's the thing, this book is pretty short, And I'm not just talking word count. Even in real time, the events of this book probably equate to about an hour 45 max. For for contact, Fast and the Furious movies are longer than that. Add in commercials and national anthems and that won't even get you the first period of hockey. Am I making my point here, because I think I am. So, why does something so short feel like it takes 38 years to read?! The pacing of this isn't just bad. I don't think she was ever here let alone invited. Smut should not take six chapters. That is the worst kind of edging! I thought this would be more of a cat and mouse thing where the one guy got away and then the alpha wolf had to chase him (don't ask me to remember their names, it's not the kind of book). I was also expecting actual stakes to add to the dark tone. But there's nothing here. The darkness only comes from the fact that the human doesn't want to get caught because he thinks he's straight and there's a little dub con involved. And I won't be sharing my feelings on using dubcon to make a story dark because they are not nice.
But Silas catches the human (hey look at that, I remember one name) from early on. It's not a chase at all. And still, nothing happens. Silas has him pinned to the ground and it takes three full chapters before he kisses him. The hand job takes two chapters! And when you factor in that each chapter is about a thousand words that's not good. That is Tolkien level of writing and he's not a good writer. I'm not sorry, someone needed to say it! I wouldn't even necessarily call this foreplay because since the writing is kind of thick and very tone focused, it takes away from the depictions and descriptions happening between the couple. We spent a lot of times in their thoughts and wants, but not a lot in their actions. I would say showing vs telling but there's nothing being shown or told.
Again, I'm not saying this author is bad. This book just need a lot of work, particularly in alpha reader who's not afraid to be honest. But the pacing sucks and it makes for a not pleasant reading experience. And who knows, maybe these issues are fixed in their other books or next installments in this series. I don't know but I'm interested to see and for that reason I'm rounding up my 2.5 star review. Also I was pretty mean. But funny.
Caught is a thrilling, high-heat wolf shifter romance. Set against the backdrop of a mysterious and intense werewolf tradition—the annual mating run—this novella follows Evan, a human with a complicated past, and Silas, an alpha wolf who believes in fate and is determined to claim his mate.
The concept of the mating run, where werewolves hunt down human mates for the night, sets the stage for a story filled with tension, danger, and intense desire. Evan, who has spent his life avoiding the hunt due to his secret desires and fear of being claimed, is forced into the event this year, and he does everything he can to escape. But from the moment Silas, the older and powerful alpha wolf, scents Evan, it’s clear that the game is over. Silas is relentless, and he believes that Evan is his fated mate, and nothing will stand in his way.
Evan is a compelling character, full of internal conflict. He’s torn between the instinct to run from the hunt and the growing realization that he secretly yearns to be claimed. His vulnerability and the tension between his fear and desire create a fascinating character arc. His reluctance to fully embrace Silas’s dominance is matched by an undeniable attraction, which only intensifies the chemistry between the two.
Silas, as the alpha wolf, embodies power and control. His possessiveness is palpable from the very beginning, and it adds a thrilling, primal edge to their connection. There’s a raw, almost obsessive quality to his pursuit of Evan, but Silas is not just a ruthless predator—he’s a character who is deeply driven by the belief that Evan is his fated mate.
The chemistry between Evan and Silas is explosive. The pull of the mating run is irresistible, and the scenes between them are hot, steamy, and full of animalistic energy. Caught leans heavily into the "knotty" aspects of the wolf shifter trope, adding a level of eroticism and intensity to their relationship.
The pacing of Caught is fast and intense, matching the urgency of the mating run itself. The high stakes and danger of being hunted create a tense atmosphere that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.
Caught is not for the faint of heart, as it features explicit content and themes of possessiveness and dominance. However, for readers who enjoy high-heat paranormal romance with a healthy dose of intensity, it’s a satisfying, spicy read. With its HEA (happily ever after) guarantee, Caught delivers on both the emotional and erotic fronts, making it a great addition to the Mating Run series.
Evan takes the place of his friend in the hunt, a yearly activity with the local werewolves where they hunt volunteers in an attempt to find a mate. In his attempt to run and his, the alpha of the pack finds him and claims him. There is a lot of back and forth with Evan, giving in one minute, then resisting, in denial about what he wants. At some points it was repetitive, with the same text used to describe his internal fight. This was a common theme in the writing - repetitive sentences or wording, which became distracting. I also thought this would be a little more smutty than it was so spice level is only about a 2.5, as the majority of the text was descriptions of feeling or an internal struggle of the characters. Despite that, I did enjoy it, however it could have been a little more action driven ( but that's my opinion).
Elements included: Primal play NC/CNC ( although not specifically presented that way) Voyeurism
Out pf 10 chapter, 7 are sex. And this is a very short read. So... twas fun :) 4 and not 5 for just how short yet repetitive it almost feels. It could have been more forceful, as i feel like it's relatively tame for a primal kink. Kinda internal thought heavy. The time skip in chapter 10 is 100% unnecessary and it should have just been the next day with Lila rather than a new sex scene that was very similar to the first. Fun, short, HEA. Makes me wonder how this author would write a novel length book.
The yearly hunt is on. Silas, the alpha has resisted the temptation of partaking for years. He wants a true mate not just a release. So he is out supervising his pack. Then he smells his mate and hunts him down.
Evan witnessed a hunt when he was just a boy, staring out his window enraptured watching a werewolf mate with a man. He has tried denying he is gay for years. But when Silas captures him, he can’t deny it anymore. He is exhilarated by being dominated and owned.
Evan and Silas are HOT! I loved the chase that was unsuspecting and thrilling as Evan takes the place of his best friend, as the human chase, during an annual werewolf run. I didn’t expect the raw experience shared by the two characters but I loved the rawness of it, it wasn’t too gritty like some writers would do but just enough to enjoy. I would have liked to have been given more details in Evan taking his place among the pack but I’m sure there will be more build up in later books. This is just an opening of what I hope to be a nice and sexy series to enjoy.
Even though this one was short, I found myself to be bored. It was definitely spicy but this was smut with no substance. It just kind of ends after a one year time skip epilogue but it didn’t feel like there was a solid conclusion. Like, what happened to Evan’s friend? Or his job? Where does he live? Or did he give up everything to be with Silas? This book has potential but, unfortunately, it wasn’t my cup of tea.
This book is a definite win for anyone craving lots of primal play-esque sex. It's basically 90% of the book, which I should have paid attention to from other reviews. A semi-fun set-up, but I wanted more story, skimmed through chapters and chapters and chapppppppters of what basically amounted to a single sex scene, realized that's literally all there is to it, and gave up. 🤷♀️ "It's not you; it's me."
He had thought he was in control, had told himself he could manage this—but Silas was undoing him, piece by piece, stripping him of every last denial, making him want in ways he had spent years refusing to acknowledge.
First off, this is not a dark shifter romance. This is pretty tame overall. The spice was fine. The characters lacked depth but that is to be expected from a spicy short story. Overall it was just fine
This is such good bones for a full length book that I’m just left wanting more: more relationship development, more side characters in the pack, more fully developed plot and world building. This feels very much like the beginning of a book rather than a complete one.
Just a short entertaining story with really no need to overanalyze. This is the equivalent of watching a random youtube short because the preview was entertaining, and never thinking about it again after you scroll.
Not like any story I’ve read before. So damn hot! But my one wish, if it could have been longer or maybe the beginning of something bigger in this story…. It has the potential for more, BUT still well worth the read that I’ll continue the series for sure!
Yes, I know it’s a short…. But I would’ve loved to see some more of the pack! Scenes were definitely hot enough and they were like 98% of the book, so can’t complain otherwise!
I thought I was in the right mood to read this story. I was not. I knew what I was about to read. Obviously it was not what I wanted. I DNFed the book.
