Rate this book
It came without warning...

One Sunday afternoon, those who stood in the sun caught fire and turned to ash. Forced indoors, humanity must learn to live in the darkness. Unless, what waits in the darkness catches them, too...

Forced inside a giant retail warehouse, a group of survivors must learn to live with the darkness and each other. A father aims to protect his children from a dangerous new world, whatever the cost. An ex-cop burdened by her shaky past puts her skills to the test when people start dying. A mysterious worshiper attempts to rally the community and seek alternative refuge.

Sunfall is an episodic series that will be released in "episodes" and "seasons", much like a television show. Each "season" will consist of six episodes, and each episode will be anywhere from 12k-20k words. Recommended for adult audiences.

Sunfall: Episode 1 presents a cool apocalypse scenario: What if the sun suddenly started burning everyone to death? And that's how this book begins. The story is very character driven and the antagonist, Sam, is a very real every man that you quickly identify with and root for. He's got everyday problems and you can easily root for him in this new dystopian world where soaking up the sun's rays leads you to burst into flames until you are a steaming pile of toasted mush.
This is only the first of six episodes so the story is quick but its a captivating tale nonetheless. There were a handful of vignettes demonstrating the suns effect taking place all over the globe which I felt got played out a bit too much from the meat of the story. The story of Sam and his kids and their shelter are fantastic however. I can't wait to check out the rest of this serial!

Trapped in a world where the sun has become the real monster, bringing the threat of spontaneous combustion. Something I find very entertaining. This is the first chapter of a longer serial novel, and finely crafted first chapter at that. Meyer, Scanlon and Draper have produced an exciting opening full of interesting characters, amped tension and vivid imagery. I'm invested in another chapter and I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.

This is an enjoyable short read. It is the setup for the series. I'm currently reading part 2 and will see where this series goes. So far the writing is done well. It has potential

A yucky-horror story. People start to burn up, screaming all the way. The hero realises instantly it's because they are standing in the sun. It's a series of descriptions of slices of everyday life with people dying gorily. Not for me.
