All Primrose wanted was to build her dream flower farm and finally escape from the clutches of her controlling family. But her plans were disrupted by Sylas, the grumpy, forest dwelling, just-free-of-his-curse, rude dragon shifter. All he longed for was peace and quiet, to escape to a corner of the world where no one would bother him. Somewhere he could just be. But she kept appearing in his life whether he wanted her to or not with her bouncy pink hair. What neither of them knew was that each of them were fighting their own demons and only together did they start mending what was broken.
A Cure for a Curse is a complete, interconnected stand-alone fantasy romance novel part of the Alehouse Tales.
I have always been a dreamer with a wild imagination and having always felt like I belonged somewhere else I created my own little cosy fantasy world, drawing inspiration from my Irish and German heritage. A lover of fairy tales, strong female leads, adorable animals and all things magic.
Nowadays I can be found dreaming up new stories nestled in the Irish mountains where I live with my partner and children.
I really enjoyed the first book, but this one didn’t quite work for me. Honestly, I found it a bit boring after 50%. I started skimming around 60%–75%, and ultimately, I decided to DNF.
I did like the magic system and getting to know the characters, the smut, etc, but maybe it was just my reading slump or the fact that it didn’t match my vibe.

Another hit for KR!! I loved this book to. Now I need the matching set. I love the banter and drunken confessions. I'm absolutely in love with this book
A Cure for a Curse is book two in the Alehouse Tales series. It can be read as a standalone. However, I highly recommend reading book one, An Arrow to the Heart, to become truly immersed in the town and the characters of Wyrmwind.
The curse that had trapped Sylas in his dragon form was lifted thanks to his twin sister, Sylvie, and the pink-haired bone witch, Primrose. Sylas disliked something about Primrose, who much preferred not to be in the grumpy fae's company. When both set their sights on a piece of property on the outskirts of Wyrmwind and were unable to identify who had prior claim, the council agreed they should split the property. Primrose blamed Sylas when strange things started happening around her, but he eventually became her safe place.
I loved every minute of this story. I was so immersed in the town as I read, from the flower stall at the market, Fable & Flora book and flower shop, the fields, to the cabin. I want to live in the cozy little town of Wyrmwind!
Primrose is a people-pleaser at the beginning of the story, but toward the end, she is a force to be reckoned with. Everyone in her life seems to want to use her, but with Sylas by her side, she gains the confidence to build the life she wants. Sylas is grumpy and broken. After spending about 200 years in his dragon form, he feels more beast than man.
There was a hint of mystery behind the threats Primrose received. There is also a bit of action when Primrose discovers how powerful she truly is.
If you're looking for your next spicy romantasy read with a hint of mystery and a hint of battle, add this to your TBR.

I always need my steady dose of lower-stakes, cosy fantasy, and K.R. Bacher's A Cure for a Curse was just what the doctor prescribed. This sweet story of two people, each haunted by their own demons, finding their home in each other was what I craved.
Still, don't let me fool you. While this is a lower-stakes, cosier fantasy, it has its fair share of darker elements, but that makes it so beautiful. After a lifetime of hardships, one must conquer inner demons and crumble inner walls to fully open their heart and let someone new in.
Sylas and Primrose faced different obstacles, but one's sufferings don't lessen the troubles of others. Sylas, with his history of heartbreak, betrayals, and curses, and Primrose, with her life controlled by a manipulative family, couldn't be more perfect for each other, even though it took them both some time to see that.
A Cure for a Curse gifts you the perfect mix of a sweet love story filled with wit and quips, longing and spice, healing and finding inner strength with the addition of the adorable grumpy vs. sunshine trope. Not to mention a dragon shifter!
A Cure for a Curse is set to be released in March, and I was honoured to have been given the opportunity to ARC read this delicious story.
Before I begin I want to thank the author, K. R. Bacher, for giving me this ARC.
I'm going to be completely honest here and say this is not for me. I think it's okay, don't get me wrong, but this is just not for me. I really didn't like the writing style and I think I'm not the right audience for this. I liked the concept it's just the execution that was not it. I probably would've loved this if I were younger.
I was having a crappy Valentine’s Day, one I had high hopes for when I cracked open this baby… it was what I needed… it is romantic, just enough spice to have me feeling delicious and sweet - it’s a light read and just what the dr called for. You can be rest assured I recommend 🥹😍💗🎀
If you loved Legends and Lattes, then you need to read this book!
I think i might have loved this book more than Sylvie's (an Arrow to a Broken Heart), I'm a sucker a small town romance, so i was more than happy to return to Wyrmwind. This cosy romance will have you gripped. It has just the right amount of spice in it, and while it's a slow burn the book is fast paced.
My question is will we getting a book about Howl and the pack, cos I'd love to go on an adventure with them.
I got this arc while in a reading slump and it really helped me get out of it.
Filled with wit, spice, grumpy x sunshine it’s got a little of everything
I was sucked in straight away to this magical world and had a great experience. This was my first experience reading something from this author and I definitely will be keeping an eye out for other books by her. To me this was a feel good read maybe not for everyone but definitely worth the try 🥰
(ARC Review) This was my first book by this author and I was impressed. I do wish I had read the first one first as I was a little lost at times (ie, Sylas’ curse/Primrose’s family) but that is at no fault of the author! I definitely want to go back and read book 1!
This was an easy, cozy read with spice! My only gripe was that I felt Sylas and Primrose fell too easily for each other but overall I loved the story
I was loving this book, this doesn't mean it was a bad book because it was not, but the first 50% was so gooddddd and then the last 50% I was not that into it 😭😭 i still was liking it but something was missing 😓😭😭
Tropes: ☆cozy fantasy ☆shifter fae mmc ☆witch fmc ☆grumpy/sunshine ☆mountain village
These characters are to DIE FOR. The romance in this book is absolutely adorable, hot, steamy, and everything in between. It offers everything you need in a book. The characters are relatable, and the writing is constantly leaving you wanting more. To be able to read the ARC was such an honor and I am so grateful to have been able to read this.
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ out of 5, the story is amazing and the spice is SPICY.
I loved An Arrow To The Heart so when I seen there was a second book with the FMC’s brother. I absolutely foamed at the mouth. This was such an enjoyable read. Sylas is the broody bad boy type BUT isn’t for that one specific person. Primrose. But they hate each other. Or do they? I loved Primroses character. She reminded me of myself in the way she would let so many things slide to avoid confrontation and trouble. She had wit and charm. I would also like to point out the presence of panic attacks in this book. I love reading about characters that are mental health reps. And the panic attacks were well described in here. It made me feel incredibly connected to both characters. And like I always say, when I can connect to the characters it’s an automatic yes for me. I can’t wait until this is out to world so others can love it as much as I did.
Fantasy Fiction . Romantasy . Enemies to Lovers . Dragon-Shifters . Fae . Witches & Covens . Hidden Power . Magic & Curses . Communicates with Animals . Murder Mystery . Damsel in Distress . Reluctant Protector .
Was a little surprised when I opened the book, and the very first chapter had a bit of spice. Like, whoa, ok then!
Primrose is a bone witch, but her magic is blocked. She wants to venture out and create a life of her own with her very own flower farm. However, her coven has their own ideas about her life. They control it, from where she works to arranging her relationship. She is expected to conform to their traditions and rules... their rules alone and her own desires are inconsequential.
Sylas is a grumpy, introverted shifter. He struggles to recover from a curse and betrayal, but Primrose is a constant reminder of it, and he hates her with a passion.
Contrary to that affinity, he becomes ensnared as a reluctant protector as they try to solve the mysterious disappearances and events that seem to be targeted toward Primrose. And in that hunt for answers, they discover more than they bargained for.
"I liked this, no, it was more than that. I f---ing loved it. " I loved the hunt, giving way to that more primal side of me. " I was the predator; she, was the prey. And tonight... tonight I'd feast well." (pg 86)
I kept thinking of Sylas as some sort of furry forest animal shifter instead of a dragon, for some odd reason. He just gave me that vibe, not in the cutesy way, but in a feral, wild beast way.
"I supposed wild responded to wild, and he was as wild as they came." (pg 108)
I think things with the coven and her grandmother didn't really have as strong a conclusion as I would have imagined. But I adored the solid dynamic and varied interactions between Primrose and Sylas, and this was an imaginative, provocative read.
"I bet he knows exactly how to use that body. Holy Hels, why couldn't I stop thinking indecent things about him? " What was wrong with me? Leering at him like he was some treat." (pg 108)
Though part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.
Review: I can’t remember how I stumbled across this ARC but I’m pretty sure I have threads to thank for this. Thank you so much to the author, K.R. Bacher, for selecting me as an advanced reader.
First, I am honestly blown away by how much this author grew from her first book. I’m not sure if her previous ARC readers had given her similar feedback but this is leaps and bounds better than the first installment in the series. Which makes me hope that her next book is going to be even more amazing!
It did take me a bit to get into the story. But that also could have been because my life got really busy and I didn’t get a moment to give this book my full attention. But I hate agreeing to read a book and then not following through with a review or feedback of any kind. So I made a point to do it today while getting my oil changed. Let me tell you…this story had a HOLD on me by around the 55% mark. It was to the point I caught myself sitting in my car in the Costco parking lot telling myself “just one more chapter” before I finally caved and drove home to finish it.
Primrose is a great FMC and you can see her growth through the book. Fighting against an oppressive family and trying so hard to will her freedom into existence.
Sylas is such a grump and I love it. He’s broken and doesn’t believe he’s worth fixing. But he also loves to antagonize Primrose whenever he gets a chance whether he means to or not.
The talking ravens, cats with wings and other lovely creatures give this story a fantastical depth that makes you want to know more. I’m assuming the next installment will be about Ostara and Howl which I can’t wait to read.
First i wanted to say thank you for sending me advange reader copy of this absolute magical and beautiful cozy romantic fantasy with mysterious, murder, plot and the spicy.
this was very well written, beautifully, witty, funny and whimsical tone. it was really easy to read but me is also was slow start but 45% in something changes and reading was little bit easier and faster to read.
i like the cozy fantasy astmosperic in the book. world building was easy to learn and magical system too. there was little bit murder mystery and other suspenseful events that made me gasp for breath and I was excited about what would happen next. i liked the local mountain village town setting.
there was few chapters with spicy. and the spicy was really hot and i liked it a lot 🥵 maybe 2/5🌶️ "Then run, petal, but when i catch you- I want all of you to do with as i please" OMG🤭
Main chracters was sweet and strong. The representation of mental health in particular was the most relatable thing to me. And i feel of lot of things - depression and anxiety. the angst. the sass. make sense. Main chracters has chemistry and banter in the whole book and it makes me giggling and jumping on my feet on exciment. their love story was so emotional and their hea is most wholesome, pure and i find me filled of lot of emotions.
i really enjoyed this so i also really recommend this a lot so get in the hands in this and read it. make me happy if you like this as much i did!
K.R. Bacher had me captivated from the very beginning. *A Cure for a Curse* is set in a charming mountain village that you can easily imagine never wanting to leave.
Primrose, our pink-haired female main character, is the black sheep of her family because she yearns for a different path in life. Her audacity to defy tradition is both unheard of and frowned upon. Primrose’s family reminds me of those relatives you try to avoid, as 9/10 times nothing good comes from interacting with them.
Enter Sylas, the dragon shifter and male main character whom Primrose recently released from his curse. Sylas despises Primrose solely due to her family connections. He is the grumpy man of your dreams.
Throughout the book, these two are irresistibly drawn to one another, even though they refuse to acknowledge their mutual attraction—at least while sober 😂. Once they finally confess their feelings, things heat up and become complicated.
K.R. Bacher has done a remarkable job crafting this story, and I felt as though the book enveloped me in a warm hug after enduring a previous book hangover.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Now that Sylas has his curse broken he’s just trying to live his life but, Primrose is everywhere he is. He tries to fight it but deep down he can’t deny he is curious and wants her and her stupid pink hair. Prim just wants something of her own, to break away from the coven, her flower farm was how she intended to do that but between the infuriating man that is Sylas and the threats against her, she isn’t sure she’ll ever break free.
This story is about breaking chains and changing your life on your terms in your time. The tension between the two MCs is so good and once they stop fighting, it’s on. The ending is so good and it’s a perfect set up for book 3 without leaving you on a cliffhanger of the book! The world the story takes place in is well written and the plot is very good. I love the relationship between Sylas and Sylvie, he loves his sister and she loves him just as much that much clear! The loyalty they have towards one another is so great. I can’t wait to read more about the characters in this world and I hope as the series continues we keep getting snippets of the all characters past, present, and future!
Don’t let the ridiculously cute colourful cover fool you this has some trigger points, definitely worth reading before going into it. But still this was super cute! I love Sylas and Primrose, these two are perfect for each other. Essentially they start off as lowkey enemy’s but the tension is palatable and I devoured it so quickly! When they finally get to the nitty gritty after the slow slow burn it’s so worth it! Oh Sylas, I love this man! So if you like books with Fae dragon shifter GrumpXSunshine, he falls first, a witch wanting to be free of her coven, beautiful world building and supporting characters, mating bond and a really good plot with a splatter of spice then this book is worth a read! Also FYI I want a story of the wolf pack, I love them so much, their banter and stories are next level and I just want more, I will sell my soul for it! Also my favourite trope ever makes a small appearance in this, Primal play! Twice! I was kicking my legs and giggling! Also it is a stand alone but there is a book one! I will be jumping into it and happily waiting for the next…ya know the one about the wolf pack *fingers crossed* 🖤🖤🖤
I loved this book! I'm a sucker for MC's who are dragons or have wings - so when I got a chance to be an ARC reviewer I jumped! The world building in beautiful and well thought out. Sylas our MMC had been cursed by our FMC Primrose's mom and recently she helped get the curse broken. She's controlled by her coven and is trying to break free. In their brokenness they find HEA with each other. While this is the second book in The Alehouse Tails - you don't need to read the first book (I'm def going back to do so, but if you're seeing this - go start at the beginning!) as the author does a great job of filling in the gaps we need to know. The supporting cast of characters are well thought out and you can see where the next book is going - tho I really hope we get more backstory on the wolf pack! There is some spice, but it doesn't take over the story, just adds to it (and if you're a closed door romance reader you can easily skim through it and keep with the story.) Lovely read and highly recommend!
This book was the most incredibly sweet, fun, delicious drop of sunshine. It had drama, it had tension, it had spice, it had loveable characters, it had hateable characters. If you like magical, shifter type books, you need to read this one!
Primrose is a bone witch. Sylas is a dragon shifter fae. Her ancestor cursed him. He has some anger about this. She helped break the curse.
Primrose's coven is super controlling and won't let their witches be a part of society. Primrose dreams of living her own life and having her own flower farm.
Sylas wants to not be in society and dreams of a home away from everyone in the forest. (same)
They both claim the same plot of land to build their dreams. When Primrose takes it to the council, they rule that the land must be shared between our two protagonists. And the story just gets better from there!!
Each time Sylas talked about his brokeness and being broken my heart wept. It was written so beautifully and that kind of vulnerability isn't expected from a character like his. And there was something so relateable about his feelings.
“We were one of the same. Outcasts, a little broken, the fold more ignored or used as they saw fit.”
A Cure for a Curse is set in the same universe as was the author’s first book, an Arrow to the Heart. I loved that one last year, so I was eager to discover that new story. This story is pretty different however, and be prepared for more action, more angst but just as much steam and small town vibes. Both characters are interesting, the main, but also the side ones, which makes me want to read another story in this verse already! The chemistry is here from the beginning, while they can’t stand each other, but we want to root for them both very quickly and I’ve got carried away by the story without realizing it. Even though some moments feel a bit rushed, I was impressed by how the author’s writing improved since book1. I had a great time with this book!
Thank you to the author for the ARC. My opinions are my own.
This book is a slow-paced fantasy romance that weaves together themes of healing, second chances, and unlikely connections😍
The story follows the determined Primrose seeking freedom and Sylas, a grumpy, recently uncursed dragon shifter who just wants solitude.
Their paths collide in a way neither expects, and their dynamic is filled with tension, charm, and, of course, a solid dose of spice🥵
The pacing allows for deep character development, giving readers time to truly connect with both leads as they navigate their emotional struggles🌼
The romance builds steadily, and while the book leans toward the slower side, the chemistry is undeniable. The spice is well-balanced, adding heat without overshadowing the emotional depth of the story.
Overall, A Cure for A Curse delivers a satisfying mix of fantasy and romance with engaging characters and an immersive setting. I’d recommend it to readers who enjoy slow-burn romance with a touch of magic and steam.
'...life was worth living and a small part of me dared to dream of hope. That I might too, someday, be a little less broken.'
4.5/5 ⭐ 1/3 🌶️
Thank you to the author for the ARC! My review is solely my own opinion.
A Cure for a Curse follows Primrose, a witch, and Sylas, a fae dragon shifter. Sylas doesn't just hate Prim, he LOATHES her and her stupid pink hair. He hates everything about her, especially because she's a witch. Primrose doesn't know why Sylas hates her so much, and he refuses to get off of her land that she's the rightful owner of. She's never done anything to him to cause him to hate her, she just wants to have a place to call her own, away from her coven and her husband-to-be, Johann.
The way I ATE this book up 😍😍
Release date: 2/28/2025 available on Amazon and KU now!
This was a very intersting book. The magic and worldbuilding in this book was really cool! I didn't read book one, but I didn't feel too confused in entering this world. I loved the tattoo magic and talking animals, the dragon shifter, and bone witches. It was a pretty cute book with the grumpy x sunshine dynamic and the banter. I think Primrose's growth was great to see as she found her strength to escape her toxic family. However, I feel like Primrose never really talked about her family situation with Sylas. I mean we never really found out why she kept in contact with her grandmother but not her mother and sisters. I did enjoy the smut though. It was spicy!! And I loved reading Sylas' POV as he slowly realized his feelings towards Primrose have changed. However, I was not really a fan of the ending.
The second book in the Alehouse Tales gives grumpy sunshine vibes and small town feel with an adventure packed into this book!
Sylas, our main character, is freed from a curse and is trying to adjust to his new life. He is mostly happy but when a certain pink haired neighbor moves into his quite space, all chaos breaks loose!
Primrose is trapped and is unhappy with her current circumstances. Wanting to change her destiny comes at a high price all while trying to steer clear of her grumpy neighbor.
The push and pull is fantastic. The story gives you small town charm with a dark underbelly that will leave you guessing with what will happen next! A great book for those looking for an adventure, magic, grumpy sunshine and magical beasts. Absolutely adored this world and I can't wait to see what happens next!
I absolutely adored this charming little book! It offered such a refreshing change from the heavier romantasy genre (which I still enjoy), but this one stood out. The intricate details of a simple witch's life were delightful to read. It’s clear that a lot of research into gardening and plant cultivation went into this lovingly crafted story. The romance was beautifully crafted, it lacked the true enemies to lovers vibe that I usually yearn for but that’s not what this book was about. I truly grew to care for both Sylas and Primrose as I navigated their individual quirks in their personalities. If you’re in search of a cozy and refreshing romantasy read, I highly recommend "A Cure for a Curse."
I received this book as an ARC and I'd like to thank the author as always.
Sylas’s journey is one of deep sorrow, having been cursed hundreds of years ago, which has left him grappling with a profound hatred of witches. His world is shaken when Primrose, a witch seeking to break free from her family's burdensome expectations, moves into the area he has chosen as hiss home. For Sylas, she becomes an easy target for the pain he has been carrying for so long.
The hatred between these two characters is so intense it leaps off the page. This is well written and filled with interesting characters. I must admit I hope to read Howl's book next. It's filled with angst, twists and turns you don't see coming, magic, shifters and witches. Its a slow burn, that doesnt detract from the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this.
This book was a fun twist on the sunshine-grumpy trope. Primrose was definitely more cheerful compared to Sylas, she was feisty, strong willed, and one of those characters that you were rooting for from page one. Sylas felt like a complete thundercloud, brooding and dangerous. And when Primrose and Sylas finally find their way to each other, the chemistry is like lightening. The plot arc and character development for this book was amazing, their were several plot twists and surprise elements that kept the ready on the edge of their seat until the very last page. While this book is a standalone, reading the first book in the Alehouse Tales series does help add additional background and context.
(ARC Review) I was lucky enough to get my first-ever ARC and couldn't have asked for a better book.
If you're looking for a book with all the best tropes, this is it! You get dual first-person POVs, grumpy x sunshine, loathe to love, cottagecore, witches, and the perfect amount of spice. I loved the world-building, attention to detail, and complexity of the characters.
You read about an MMC, Sylas, who thinks he's missing something and feels broken inside and an FMC, Primrose, who wants more in life than what her coven expects of her.
I have been reading a lot of heavy fantasy books lately, and this was the perfect fantasy/romance refresher. I absolutely loved it!
