Bone Crossed [Dramatized Adaptation]

Rate this book
By day, Mercy Thompson is a car mechanic in the sprawling Tri-Cities of Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shape-shifter with some unusual talents, Mercy’s found herself maintaining a tenuous harmony between the human and the not-so-human on more than one occasion. This time she may get more than she bargained for.

Marsilia, the local vampire queen, has learned that Mercy crossed her by slaying a member of her clan–and she’s out for blood. But since Mercy is protected from direct reprisal by the werewolf pack (and her close relationship with its sexy Alpha), it won’t be Mercy’s blood Marsilia is after.

It’ll be her friends’.

Basic Plot: Mercy deals with the fallout that comes from having killed a vampire.

Mercy's attitude and contrariness continue to amuse me. There's just something about a woman who does things simply to irritate the people around her, while still managing to be intelligent about the way she does it. One of the first things that struck me about this book is how close the events of this novel take place to the events from the previous one: only about a week of time elapsed between them. That's unusual for a lot of authors of series as I can tell. Plus, the charged content of the previous book would have made a more squeamish person avoid the healing process of the previous novel's events. But Briggs isn't what I'd call a squeamish author. She handles everything well, dealing with Mercy's pain in a realistic, but not overly detailed style. She gives us the impressions we need without being graphic, and I appreciate that. The Graphic Audio also handles everything very well.

By day, Mercy’s all about fixing cars. By night? She’s dodging vampires, wrangling werewolves, and somehow keeping the supernatural world from going up in flames. 🐺🩸

This time the vampire queen, Marsilia, is out for revenge—and if she can’t get to Mercy directly, she’s aiming for the people Mercy loves most. The tension had me holding my breath, and the danger felt so real. Every choice Mercy makes feels heavy, and yet she still brings that fierce loyalty (and stubborn coyote cleverness) we adore her for.

And can we talk about the GraphicAudio production?! 🎧🔥 A full cast, cinematic music, sound effects—it’s like stepping inside the story. Honestly, it feels more like a movie for your ears than just an audiobook.

Not a full 5 stars only because my nerves are still recovering from the chaos 🤯—but wow, what a ride. Already counting down to the next!

I am binging officially on this series. Oh the trouble Mercy manages to find or the trouble that finds Mercy keeps me intrigued right to the end. Ms. Briggs writes a fine book for a lazy afternoon read. Be forewarned it did not feel so lazy as my heart hammered and I started yelling at the bad people in the story.

GraphicAudio - simply outstanding work.
