I can't help be amazed at the gifts God has delighted me with - a wonderful husband, four amazing children, and the opportunity to write for Him.

I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.

Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.

Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.

Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.

Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.

I 'm delighted you've stopped in to visit. My hope is that you'll be blessed and encouraged by soul-stirring stories of regular people interacting with a God who loves them.

I'd love to hear from you! I love getting mail, especially from readers and I welcome your questions and comments. Write to me at susan@susanmaywarren.com. God Bless and Happy Reading!

#4 Christiansen Family

Casper is my favourite of the Christiansen brothers and so I was really looking forward to his story.

Sadly though (and I realise I am in the minority here!) this is not a favourite of mine and I struggled to read it.

Things I liked:
~ The treasure hunting theme of the story.
~ I thought Darek and Ivy's story was well done and I really enjoyed it when they and Tiger took centre stage.
~ I like how Amelia's story has been set up ~ very intriguing! Although a little dramatic at the end, I'm definitely interested to discover what went on in Europe and how things are going to work out for her.

Things I disliked:
~ It seemed (to me anyway) not to flow as well as stories by this author usually do. It jumped about and gave a disjointed feel.
~ While I enjoyed reading the diary, I felt that something was missing from it. I also hoped Raina was going to get a lot of encouragement and enlightenment from it in regards to her baby and also insight into God's love, but while it sort of happened, it was more inferred and we didn't see Raina's full appreciation and discovery - which considering all the angst she is going through, that was a shame. I was expecting to see more of Raina's spiritual journey portrayed and I felt this story fell a bit flat on that score.
~ It didn't surprise me that Casper fell for Raina in #3 and that he is still in love with her, even though he is a Christian and she isn't - he is human after all. What I did find surprising was that he pursued her, and didn't feel any back off or conflict in his spirit about pursuing her, and that he felt at peace with this from God. Also no one else in his family warns him against the unequal yoke which I thought was odd, only his dad warns that he can't fix her only God can do that (totally agree). I appreciated that Casper prayed for Raina every time he thought of her, and gave her space as she requested and he tried to move on. However, what concerned me was that he was declared his love for her before knowing she was a believer. I felt Kelly Eileen Hake in Taking a Chance handled the whole believer/non-believer storyline better, and had hoped for something similar in this story.
~ I really did not like the whole soap opera feel to this story...or the whole Monte storyline either.

However, despite my struggles with not connecting with most of the story, I did finish it, and am continuing with the series as Amelia's story is next and as I mentioned above I'm already intrigued. I have already started it and am enjoying it, so hopefully Casper's story is going to be the only one I haven't loved.

Casper Christiansen went 2,000 miles to get Raina Beaumont off of his mind. But when he can't stop thinking about her, he returns home to a big surprise - the woman he loves is pregnant with another man's baby. And when he discovers the identity of the baby's father, Casper wishes he'd stayed in Honduras. With the family's resort facing financial difficulties, Casper decides it's time to grow up and help his older brother around the resort. Raina Beaumont never expected that Casper would show back up in her life. Yet when the job she is working constantly brings her in contact with Casper, she hopes that she can become his friend. Yet as they work closer and closer together, both she and Casper have to come to grips with their feelings for each other. Will they figure out a way to navigate through the past and into a future?

I love the Christiansen family. When I got this one in the mail, I told myself that I'd wait til January to read it. That so didn't happen. I ended up picking it up one day and finishing it the next. Because it was that good.

What I love the most about this family is their faith and they way they do support one another. I loved how John approached both Casper and Darek to let them know that it was ok to follow their own dream. I also loved how Casper learned what it was to really love someone like Jesus.

I've read just about everything that this author has written, and I really think the Christiansen Series is my favorite. I am looking forward to the next book, Amelia's story, and not wanting to say goodbye to this family in the final book, Owen's story.

I received this book for free from Tyndale for the purpose of reviewing. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was heart-wrenching, the story between Casper and Raina was tough, but so worth the tears. Even though the story was dealing with some difficult issues, I didn't want to put it down. I needed to know how things would turn out. I had come to love Casper in the previous books and really felt his pain through this one. I loved how the author showed the importance of turning everything over to God and that success is not measured by your career but by how you live your life. I really liked what dad, John said to his sons, Darek & Casper at one point: "There is no life bigger than the one lived, every day, in the awe of God. God showing up in our lives to love us despite ourselves. That is a treasure we can find every single day." I look forward to reading the next installment in this series, I feel connected to this family and each book keeps getting better.

As I've come to expect from Susan May Warren, Always On My Mind is equal parts romantic, poignant, and can't-put-this-down. The Christiansens are one of my favorite families right now in Christian fiction, so I was excited to dive into another story that would allow me to catch up with them again—especially after the cliff-hanger nature of the ending for the sibling stories of When I Fall in Love (the third book in the series).

Casper and Raina were both featured as secondary characters in When I Fall in Love. Casper was so sweet and an all-around good guy. I was really rooting for him and sad at how things seemed to be working out for him with all the conflict between him and his brother. Raina, too, was a girl I instantly liked. Sure, she had a ton of issues and a history of making bad choices, but there was something about her that still made her likeable. To see them get their own story was a treat!

Casper and Raina have both faced challenges since we've seen them. Casper seems to be falling apart a bit, but his return home greets him with one huge, unfortunate surprise as well as support from his family. It was nice to see how he worked so hard to prove himself as trustworthy and not just an adventure-seeker.

Raina is determined to face her new life independently of everyone else, which drove me crazy. So many people wanted to help her and she just wasn't having it. But I sort of understood why she wanted to make it on her own. Her biggest issue was that she didn't believe she deserved anything good. Of course, Casper is determined to show her otherwise!

As far as secondary stories go, Dare is featured in the book. He's starting to fold under the stress of trying to reopen the resort. I think this is one thing that I both like and dislike about this series. It's more realistic to see that characters aren't just left to lead perfect lives once they fall in love, but I hate seeing bad things happen to characters I've come to love! I felt like this story arc added depth and richness to the story, so for all my angst over Dare and Ivy, it was worth it. :)

So many issues are addressed in this book, and I loved the focus on valuing every life. Raina's difficult decision about whether to raise her baby or find an adoptive family is gut-wrenching, but I loved that this was part of the story. I felt like this theme played out with just about every character—our identity and worth is in Christ alone.

Overall, this was a wonderful book. I highly recommend Always On My Mind for readers who enjoy emotional romance stories. Just a suggestion, though, start at the beginning of the series. It will definitely be worth it to catch up! [4 stars]

This book was awesome, but it was also difficult. Raina and Casper's story was a rough one, but so worth it. I feel it's the mark of an excellent author when they can take their characters through some really difficult and draining things and you want to go with them, even though it's not always a fun ride, because you're invested and it's worth it. I enjoy reading these novels because I always learn something right along with the characters.

The great thing about the Christiansen family series for me is how down to earth and amazingly real it feels. These characters are dealing with real life, and it gets gritty and ugly and just hard sometimes. Each installment isn't the same, as each character isn't the same, and some have more light hearted moments, some more romantic, and so on. This one was difficult for me, particularly, because we had to watch two characters who I grew to love in previous novels, make some really difficult, and in a few cases, very poor decisions. Raina and Casper had a lot to go through and a lot of consequences to deal with. Seeing them do that and grow in hope, faith, and love was a beautiful thing.

Susan May Warren's novels never fail to make me laugh out loud and also move me to tears. This one is no exception. I like seeing the way the family is growing and changing as they go through different tests and trials. I love that in the end faith stands strong and love triumphs.

3.5 stars! And I'm reading contemporary romance again... :)

Characters: In the previous books in this series, I've enjoyed reading about Casper, and I'm glad he finally got his story told. He was an all-around nice guy, but he still had his flaws. And poor Raina ... She had such a hard time because of her past sins.

Language: Clean.

Moral: The themes included in this book were sacrificial love and prayer.

Plot: The plot definitely had enough going on in it to keep me turning pages. To be honest, this book had a little too much drama for me. In fact, one of the characters compared the events of this book to a soap opera.

Random comments: A few mentions of immorality that resulted in a baby. Raina was also dating an abusive guy, and he tried to force himself on her. This part wasn't described, and nothing happened. Also, I'm not sure whether Raina was saved. If she weren't, Casper, as a Christian, had no business dating her.

Romance: Clean. I did think some of the parts about Raina and her loser boyfriend could've been a little less detailed.

Writing: Susan May Warren has a great style, and I enjoy reading her books.

Overall: Even though this one got too dramatic for me, I'd still recommend it to readers who like Christian fiction and contemporary romance.

ALWAYS ON MY MIND is the fourth book in Ms. Warren’s A Christianson Family series. While it easily stands alone, readers will want to read the first three books in the series (plus the Christmas one) to be brought up to speed with all the siblings and the parents. The books are: It Had to Be You, Take a Chance on Me, When I Fall in Love, Evergreen, and ALWAYS ON MY MIND.

Sigh. I absolutely love Ms. Warren’s books, and ALWAYS ON MY MIND was just as good as I imagined. I picked it up, dove in, and except for what I had to put the book down to do (like going to church Wednesday night) I didn’t put it down. It was that good. I immersed myself in this story. I felt Raina’s pain. Casper’s heartbreak and pride. And the faith message…. I love the way Ms. Warren’s books always minister to the hurting soul. So much truth in there.

I am absolutely waiting impatiently for the next book in this series The Wonder of You coming in July 2015. There is a great hook leading into the next book at the end….

If you love contemporary romance, Ms. Warren is the absolute best. Don’t miss ALWAYS ON MY MIND.

Each of this author’s books seem to grow. The stories are better without leaving out the importance of realism and the writing is consistently brilliant. The fourth book in Warren’s on-going series sets itself up in a way that the same ease with which the prior books flow, this one may stumble. Fortunately, I don’t think it does.

STORY | Casper Christiansen runs away after the girl he falls hard for is uninterested. Or that’s how he sees Raina’s apparent fascination with his younger brother, Owen. Now he’s back from his treasure-hunting adventure, and Casper makes a decision. One way or another, he’s going to tell her how he feels. When he shows up, he finds Raina pregnant… with his brother’s child.

Raina doesn’t see lump herself into the single mother category, but to tell Owen – or any of the Christiansen family, is out of the question. So, she gives up the child for adoption and with time, she and Casper slowly begin again...

Always on My Mind by Susan May Warren | Book Review

REVIEW | I’ll be honest I didn’t expect this novel to live up to the others in this series. Especially after reading When I Fall in Love. The proceeding novels set this one up in their subplots, which leads to this book brimming with too many complications, which then doesn’t make for an “easy” story. But then, they say the best things don’t come easy.  But as with any books I have a false impression of, I’m glad to be wrong. Casper’s reservation is completely justifiable and on any other hero this might be grating for the reader. I say it’s just a normal process he has to work through in order to “heal” and have any kind of normal, happy life. Truthfully, it’s Raina who most baffles. Sure I like her and want her to realize her full potential however I lose some respect for her because of the choices she makes. Find the review in full on Finding Wonderland

Always on My Mind. I didn't have high expectations for this book, just because I had started it last year and it wasn't gripping enough for me to have to finish at that time, so I set it aside and didn't pick it back up until this past week. But, this time around, it had me hooked! I absolutely loved the story, had a hard time putting it down, and couldn't wait to see how it ended!

The story was very emotional, just because of all that Casper and Raina went through in the previous books. The jealousy Casper felt; the guilt and shame Raina experienced...made this not a fluffy or happy read. The story was so good, though, and I loved the message of forgiveness and grace.

The story was a little predictable at times and regarding a certain part of the story (which I won't explain to avoid spoilers), I felt like what happened was too perfect.

All in all, though, I loved Always on My Mind. Due to a few minor things, this was not my favorite of the series, but it was still a great read and I loved getting to know this family more! Can't wait to read the next book!!

"There is no life bigger than the one lived, every day, in awe of God." 10000%

Casper can do no wrong and you can't convince me otherwise.

The arcs were really good in this one. I don't like abusive men subplots and it always reduces my enjoyment of a book significantly. And although I liked the parallels and lessons Raina could learn from the people of the past, the dual time story took away from the people I really wanted to read about, the Christiansen family. So I did some skimming there. But the book was worth it for Casper. Darek broke my heart in this one. He was just trying so hard. I love how everyone's stories intertwines and overlaps so although this was Casper's book, it was about everyone in the family.

This one is making me pay a little more attention to my middle son, as he already has some of Casper's same characteristics.

Ahhh…the latest addition to the Christiansen Family series. Sigh…I just can’t get enough of these characters! As soon as I finish one book, I am eager for the next. Always on my Mind continues the wonderful story of this complicated family. The author has put in enough information from the previous books to help a reader if they have not read the other novels, but I think to truly understand and appreciate the storylines that are going on in this book, you need to read the entire series.

Always on my Mind is primarily Casper and Raina’s story, and it is quite a volatile one. I wondered how the author was going to be able to lead these two complicated people through their trials and provide a happily-ever-after for them. It just seemed like there was too much to overcome. But, she did it. Although painful at times, Raina did some serious growing and learning in this book. She has to make decisions that rip her apart inside and she takes quite the journey as she learns that God actually does love her.

And speaking of pain…Casper certainly has his fair share of it! He is in love with a woman who he discovers is pregnant with his brother’s child. Casper always feels that he is everyone’s second choice, and now it seems that he isn’t even that to Raina. She wants nothing to do with him. But, Casper learns that if he truly loves Raina, he must love her as God loves us. He must pray for her, expecting nothing in return. His ability to act in such a selfless way brings him close to God and is just a beautiful part of the book.

I loved that there is a mystery and treasure hunt that must be solved. Watching Raina and Casper work together to piece together the clues, while slowly piecing together a friendship, was so enjoyable. The secondary storyline between Darek and Ivy, the main couple from the first book in the series, was also a very emotional one that added so much to the book. This author does a great job of showing how ordinary people sometimes make great decisions and sometimes they don’t. In fact, they occasionally let life overwhelm them and feel unable to dig themselves out of the situation that they are in. What a great way to highlight our continual need to seek God in all parts of our lives.

I loved this book from start to finish and highly recommend the entire Christiansen Family series.

I really do not know why I waited so long to read Susan May Warren's books. I have a lot of catching up to do! I was introduced to Susan's books last year, and I have enjoyed every single one I have read thus far.

I jumped in to the Christiansen family series at the half way mark. Thankfully, the books work well as a standalone if need be, but work beautifully when together as a series, as you get the whole story of this wonderful family.

Now mind you, this family I believe is wonderful, but not by any means does that make them perfect. No, far from it. Each character deals with hard struggles and issues that don't resolve right away. This story is based on life, but what these stories offer is hope. Hope is always needed and this family knows what kind of hope they need to look for, even if they are in their darkest place.

It is the dead of winter when we jump into Always On My Mind. We pick up right after When I Fall In Love ends and we watch how everything that transpired at the end of book three unfolds in book four and the actions and lack of communication play such a huge part in how things turn out. Casper has fled from the family to go in search of treasure, but feels a pull to come home. He leaves the beautiful sunny shores and heads to the dead of winter and negative degree weather. When he arrives, he receives many surprises and hurts just seem to plague him.

Raina we were introduced to in the previous book, but here, we really get to know her. She has had a tough and sad life, and because of that you can kind of understand why she makes the decisions she does. However, I do applaud her on one decision, she could have easily gone one way, but did something else. She is also the text book case of a girl who is easy prey. She is hurt, her thoughts aren't completely her own right now, and she is substitutable to any nice gesture or word that is offered to her. And sadly, this happens far to often these days. Raina walks right into.

I loved how this book keeps you up to date on all of the family members from the previous stories. You're not left wondering..."What happened?" No, you are very much a part of this family as you flip through each page. I love that.

I'm very much looking forward to the next book in the series. I love escaping to Deep Haven when ever I get the chance!

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher Tyndale via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. The expected publication date is January 1st 2015.

This was the fourth book in the Christiansen Family series however I was able to read it as a stand alone novel. While I was left to wonder if the history between Casper and Raina occurred in one of the earlier books or occurred "off the page" it did not impact my ability to enjoy this story.

I enjoyed the fact that while this was about Casper and Raina that there were also some side stories with the rest of the Christiansen family. It added a different element to the story.

I was frustrated throughout the story that Casper and Raina could not just surpass their inner ghosts and just admit that they belonged together. Then in comes Monte and I disliked him from the beginning. However without these problems there really wouldn't be a story would there?

The best part for me was the "treasure hunt" where we learned the story of Aggie and Thor and Duncan. As a sucker for anything pertaining to trying to solve a love story from the past that is me. This is my favorite type of story so every time the journal came out I was excited to find out what happens next.

Now I must offer a warning. There is quite a bit mention of God and praying in this story and I would classify it in the genre of Christian romance. While I tend to be put off if there is too much of this embedded in to a story it was not so much as to impact the story for me. The only reason I mention this is that some people so not enjoy this type of read and therefore this may not be for them. That being said, as a result this was a good clean read which can be refreshing.

Overall I enjoyed this book. If I had one recommendation it would be to read the series from the beginning if only to enjoy the numerous member of the Christiansen family

This is definitely a character-driven novel, which I relish. There is also a compelling plot, but I enjoy how deeply we experience the characters' thoughts and feelings. It's so easy to emotionally connect to Casper and Raina, feel their frustrations and hopes. As much as I love the other books, Casper is my favorite of the Christiansen siblings. His personality is so appealing- compassionate, adventuresome, faithful, yet still a little lost as a middle child in a family of vibrant personalities. At the beginning of the book is a letter from Ingrid, Casper's mother, to her son- expressing her love and understanding of him and his strengths and weaknesses. I appreciate the insight going into the story because it helps the reader identify some of the motivations behind his choices and actions.

Raina is strong, making the best of her situation while also owning her mistakes. Her work for the antique shop is interesting and her boss Gust is a sweet and quirky addition to the cast of friendly townspeople. It is frustrating when she doesn't view herself with any self-worth, but her spiritual journey is inspiring. The local mystery she unearths is a great catalyst for connecting with Casper, and they both discover what their true treasure is despite the adversity that is trying to keep them apart.

Welcome back to Deep Haven, Minnesota, in the middle of a hard winter! One of my favorite series, this time focusing mostly on Casper's and Raina's relationship. What a great guy Casper is--kind, patient, loyal, hard-working, fun, adventurous, a good brother and friend--enduring through repeated rejections. A bit like a Hosea, he learns how to love sacrificially and unconditionally, a good example for us all. I really liked revisiting Darek, Ivy and little Tiger, and enjoyed their further story. Ivy is such a sweet character. The mystery and old diary entries were an interesting touch too, bringing insights of their own, almost paralleling Raina's struggles. It showed the power of story in reaching out to people.
Wished there had been more interjection of Scripture and faith--all the characters could have really benefitted from some more of that; where is Pastor Dan when you need him? Doesn't anyone go to church anymore? Felt like a few characters needed a good talking to along the way. It was frustrating to read their messed up thinking sometimes. John's counsel to his sons was a precious moment near the end.
Overall, another really good addition to the Christensen family series. Recommend reading the others in the series before this one, including the novella Evergreen, to understand the whole story. You'll want to anyways after this. 4.5 stars

What can I say about this book? I have no words to describe how magnificent I thought it was. There is a different feel to this book than the other three in the series. While each book, so far, has dealt with some pretty heavy issues, they have managed to remain positive and bright (in my opinion). This book, however, was hard to get through because it was so sad! That didn't diminish my enjoyment, just made me have to pause from time to time to get my bearings and it made the ending so much sweeter! Get to know the Christiansen Family!
Meet Casper, middle-child, aspiring archaeologist and general "fixer".
He still carries a torch for his one time love, Raina Beaumont...who just so happens to be carrying his brothers child.
Things get really complicated from there as Raina tries to distance herself from Casper, but he isn't giving up so easy.
A dangerous new relationship, a hunt for a historical treasure and life altering decisions will keep you enthralled from start to finish.
Casper has to learn that loving sometimes means letting go...and letting God.
Don't miss this fabulous installment in the Christiansen Family series!

Always in His Sight and Care...

With themes of being the light of God, hope despite bad choices, forgiving, and living large with God, Susan May Warren deftly pulled me into her fourth book of the Christiansen family. No matter I had not read any of the other three. Always on My Mind gives just enough back story just as the reader needs it to be able to enjoy this story on its own. I will, however, be searching out the other three, since my appetite has been so well-whetted for more complete adventures of this imperfect, Christian family.

As we meet Raina, she is emotionally hiding out from Casper, with whom she fell in love the summer before. Because of a fit of jealousy, Casper took off to the Honduras, searching for treasure. He returns to make things right with Raina, only to find her unwilling and unable to move beyond the past.

Casper's brother, Darek, is uncertain about Casper's return as well. Darek is struggling to keep the family lodge running and profitable. He needs Casper to be reliable this time. In the meantime, Darek puts all he has into the lodge...but will it cost him his son and new wife as well?

John, the patriarch, addresses Casper's need to discover treasure:"...there is no life bigger than the one lived, every day, in awe of God. God showing up in our lives to love us despite ourselves. That is a treasure we can find every single day." And again John says, "If what we call love doesn't take us beyond ourselves, require more of us than we ever dreamed, then it's not the unconditional, divine love God has for us. God's love is not cautious, not wise, not sensible, and not remotely conservative. In fact, loving another person the way God loves them is the greatest adventure we can have...the greatest treasure you can find."

Always on My Mind is more than a romance or even a family saga. It is a book that will stay on my mind, reminding me God always has us in His sights and care!

Casper Christiansen is an adventurer; especially after he learns about his brother's betrayal; he travels all the way to Honduras following a dueling fiasco at his sister's wedding. But the beautiful woman that he left behind is always on his mind. And so, he gives up South American treasure hunting and returns to Minnesota only to discover that his dreams might not come true after all; at least not until he learns how unconditional love must be.

Raina Beaumont cannot believe that on the evening of her daughter's delivery that Casper Christiansen shows up on her doorstep, and then begs her not to make the only decision that she knows how to make. After successfully shoving Casper aside, she retreats to Deep Haven, to live in her aunt's home and attempt to start her live all over again. When she discovers that her new job in a dusty old antique store is going to bring her in close proximity yet again to Casper Christiansen, she grabs on to the only lifeline available; the incredibly handsome Monte Riggs. But as Raina and Casper are inextricably pulled into a local treasure hunt of their own, Raina discovers what true love is all about.

This is a wonderful heart-warming story; rich with love and life lessons that many people live their entire life without learning. Love seeps into all the broken, cracked, damaged places in Raina's heart and Casper has the opportunity to listen to God's voice in ways that he could have never imagined. "Always on My Mind" has most certainly found its place in this continuation of the Christiansen Family series.

I love the golden nuggets of inspiration that are always in the writings of Ms. Warren. I feel that God is speaking to me in some way or another when I come across something that just reaches out and says, "doesn't this sound familiar?" Or, "aren't these the words and thoughts you were looking for?" It's happened more than once while reading her books.

On another note...every time I read a part of the book or books where one or more of the characters place their hand on a window pane I immediately think. "don't do that, your gonna leave a hand or finger print!" Haha...how crazy is that?!

This was about Casper and Raina. It also toward the end started including Amelia a little more which I guess means the next book will be about her and I think Owen will make an appearance as well.

It wasn't my favorite but I did enjoy reading it. I didn't get the close feeling with Raina and Casper as I have in other books in this series. I will for continue reading though! I want to know how it all ends!

Rating: PG -physical abuse, verbal confrontation, fist fighting and I think there was some implied swearing but nothing verbal.
Language: clean read
Recommend: yes

I enjoyed these characters and the fact that it was easy to believe in their relationship and storyline because their story started in the last book. However, in a way that doesn't suit my style, there was no whirlwind story to get swept up in. Things were falling apart for multiple people and the story seemed like it was happening to normal people. It was a good read, just not with the same emotion that I am used to finding in Warren's past works.

Love!

I think Casper's might be my favorite of the books yet! So sweet and I love the focus on forgiveness.

It was a while since I have read a book that took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions like in this story. I wanted to hug Raina, sit down with her and Casper so that they can be honest with each other, physically harm Monte and hoped for a specific ending (which I luckily received).

Raina and Casper was one of my favourite couples in When I fall in love (book 3) and was sad how their story ended in book 3, so I was looking forward to reading more of their story in Always on My Mind. Raina is a character with so much hurt and so lost, and the difficult decisions she faced broke my heart. I was so frustrated with her at times, especially when she let Monte into her life. The growth her character went through was not very clear/strong, however, I feel it was the beginning for Raina and think her story might continue in the rest of the series.

Casper is a favourite. I enjoy his adventurous heart and how he wants to come to the rescue all the time. He learned what it is to not react to how he feels, but to sit back and let God work, but also to step up when it is time. This made him an even stronger character.

The story about the mystery of the Duncan Rothe treasure was intriguing and added to my enjoyment of the story.

Casper and Raina learned what true treasure was and how God loves to find lost treasure. Raina's story was a difficult one, and I loved how it was evident that no matter your mistakes and your past, you will never be a lost treasure to God, He will continue searching until he finds you.

I loved the secondary story of Darek, Ivy and Tiger. It was great to catch up with them.

Susan May Warren brings alive imperfect characters. Characters who makes mistakes, fold under pressure and who can easily be someone living among us.

I love this series. It reminds me of the Baxter series from Karen Kingsbury which I adored.

You can read this as a stand alone, but I think to truly appreciate and love this family, it is best to start with book 1.

Looking forward to the next book in the series. The author did a great job of setting up the story and I'm very intrigued to see what happened with Amelia in prague.

DNF @ 24%

I got excited after reading Sunburst and went searching the author’s backlist. First of all I thought and hoped the heroine was POC—the girl in the cover looks a bit so, but she’s not. (Nothing BAD I just loved the heroine in Sunburst so much and hoped to see another like her!) I didn’t like the MCs. Mostly I think this is because the story begins at a tough time for both of them, but the way they went about it just didn’t endear me as much as I wanted to be. Raina especially was ultra-whiny in the beginning. I also found them a bit too young at 24. I’ve never had this problem before, being in my mid-twenties myself, but somehow I just felt they wouldn’t be stable enough characters for what I was looking to read right now!

Lastly, I wrongly assumed that all the authors books likely involved SEALs or private operators. So I came in expecting high octane adventure. This is mostly family drama and romance, which isn’t bad! Just not what I was seeking.

Always on My Mind is the forth full-length novel in Susan May Warren’s Christiansen Family series. The series follows the siblings of the Christiansen Family as they find and flourish in love. I have adored all of the books in the series and can honestly say that I don’t have a favorite. Mrs. Warren does an excellent job with each and every one. She brings the stories and characters to life with vivid descriptions and details that make it seem as though you are actually there. I love how the stories continue through each book, the siblings constantly stepping into and out of each other’s lives. This allows us to follow the characters from the previous books and keep up with their lives.
I also love how real the characters are. Raina Beaumont has made many mistakes in her life, not the least of which being getting involved with Owen Christiansen, Casper’s rogue of a brother. Raina is so broken and alone because of this. She feels unwanted by everyone, including God. She believes that no one could ever truly love her, if they knew her past. She is beautiful in her vulnerability and brokenness. But she also has an inner strength, an ability to rise above all that life has thrown at her. I loved this bit of a contradiction, because it emphasized both facets of her personality. I was almost in tears at one point, because of how deeply I had been drawn into Raina’s story, how easily I could feel her heart on the matter. That is when you know an author is wonderful at what they do - when they can draw you into a story so completely that you mourn when the characters mourn and rejoice when they do.
I also loved Casper Christiansen. He is a great hero and Susan could not have chosen a better match for Raina. He is kind, loving, forgiving, passionate, gentle, giving, and so many other things. I loved him when I was first introduced to him in Take a Chance on Me. He is the brother that no one really takes seriously, because of his treasure hunting. But he is everyone’s champion. He is always there for them when they need him and he doesn’t back down from the hard things. I loved his heart for Raina. Even though she has hurt him in the past, he can’t help but love her. One of my favorite parts of the whole story is when he turns his love into prayers for her. He knows that she desires space, so he gives it to her and constantly prays that she’d find what she was looking for.
I also really enjoyed their relationship. Because they had a history that neither was able to overcome immediately, they started out as something short of enemies. They mostly kept their distance from each other, but then later found the strength to become friends. I loved watching them progress from being friends, to something more, even though neither of them wanted to admit what they felt for the other. Both were shy of being hurt again, or hurting someone again. They also had their past between them, keeping them apart.
I think my favorite thing of the entire book was the spiritual depth. Susan does such a wonderful job of highlighting God and faith in the story, without overwhelming us with it, or making it seem “preachy.” I loved seeing the spiritual growth in Raina and Casper, as they both learned about the Lord. I already mentioned that Raina believed God didn’t care a wit about her. So her struggle is to believe that He actually does love her just the way she is, mistakes and all. Casper must learn what it means to love unconditionally, as the Lord loves and is challenged by the call to be a light to the world. I enjoyed the progression throughout the story. They didn’t stay in one specific place from beginning to end, but rather the focus shifted as they learned and moved on to another area of growth. There were so many quotes that I wrote down, thinking to use them for my review, but I just have too many and can‘t pick one. Susan touched my heart in so many ways and really challenged me with several things. I enjoy reading a book that entertains me, but I love a story that draws my focus to the Lord, stretches my faith, and points out something I’ve been missing. This book does all of those things.
I can honestly say that I don’t have any complaints or things I didn’t care for in this book. It is beautifully written from beginning to end. It drew me in and didn’t let me go until long after the last page was read. The wisdom found in the midst of the story was wonderful! The ending was satisfying as well as leaving us with a bit of a cliffhanger that leads into the next story, which I am now very excited to read. So, I am very happily giving this book 5 stars and highly recommend it and the rest of the series.
I received an Advanced Reading Copy of this book from the publisher, through The Christian Manifesto for my honest review, which I have given. I was not required to write a positive review and have not been compensated for it in anyway. All opinions expressed are my own.
