Fae Prince Sebastien, wrongfully accused of murdering his king, has been exiled to waste away in the Human Realm.
After a century as a powerless husk of what he once was, his world is turned upside down when his ticket home––a willing human––waltzes through his front door.
Lucille has no idea of the terror that awaits her, as Sebastien finds himself more and more drawn to the fragile being in his grasp. With every touch, Sebastien grows increasingly torn between his yearning to prove to the queen that he is still the heartless prince she raised, and his realization that the heart he was supposed to steal may have stolen his instead.
Sebastien must decide to follow his own heart or sacrifice the heart that he’s grown so fond of.
From the very first page, you are shoved into an entirely different world—just like Lucille—and let me tell you, the whiplash is real. One minute, you're trying to find your footing, and the next, you're in a headspin, desperately trying to keep up.
And the creatures? Phenomenal. Each one is uniquely described, rich in detail, with a short but masterfully delivered history. The amount of world-building packed into this book—given its length—is nothing short of incredible.
Now, just when you think you know what’s happening… BOOOOOM—major plot twist. And I’m talking gape-like-a-fish, full WTF moment. I had to stop, re-read, and process because what just happened?!
And that ending?! Did. Not. See. That. Coming. I sat there, blinking at my screen like did I hit my head? Did I imagine that?! HUH?!
And then… Seymour. WHAT THE HELL?! I was blindsided, completely caught off guard, like a naïve girl walking straight into a trap. The way that twist was executed? Absolutely brilliant.
Even without spice, this book delivers. The tension is glorious, intoxicating, and edge-of-your-seat gripping. It doesn’t need spice to hold its power—it thrives purely on atmosphere, suspense, and stunning storytelling.
This book is a MUST-READ if you want fantasy, mind-blowing plot twists, and an ending that defines the phrase cliffhanger of all cliffhangers. If you're looking for a book that will leave you flabbergasted, emotionally wrecked, and desperate for more—this is it.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go stare at a wall and process because WHAT DID I JUST READ?! 🙌
Thank you to Sedona Jessie for the eARC of this book, I am so glad I got to read this early!
I do wish we had a little more background information and character development. This was a short, fun read but I think it would benefit from everything being a little more fleshed out. I’m hoping that we see more of that in the second book and overall just more depth to the story and characters.
The pacing of the first 60% of the book seemed to be a little up and down, but it started to steadily climb in the latter half. The last 10% was really strong and I did not see that twist coming at the very end. I truly can’t wait for the next book to come out because I absolutely need to know what is going to happen!
Overall, I enjoyed the read and I like the premise/where this book is going. The cliff hanger really does you dirty because how am I supposed to wait for the second book 😭 can I get that arc now too? Lol
This is the book one in the The Heart Chronicles series. I received Heart For A Heart as an ARC reviewer for my honest opinion. I want to thank the author, Sedona Jessie, for letting me read her debut novel early!
✨Tropes✨ - Secret Identity - Exiled Fae Prince - Grumpy/Sunshine - Enemies To Lovers - Slow Burn - Multiple POV
Spice Level:🚫 but there is TENSION
MMC - Sebastien 🐦⬛ “There was one thing I knew for certain. I did not murder my father.”
Sebastien gets framed for murdering the king aka Dad. Which leads him to be exiled to the human realm without his magic. The only way back is to take the heart of a human for trade to clear his name. Which shouldn’t be a problem since he loathes them… right?
MFC - Lucille 🫀 “I will not let this break me.”
Lucille was just trying to get out of the rain when she has to fight for her life against a hot but crazy stranger! Then him and two others (also hot) kidnap her. And then take her to a magical realm. Where there is A LOT going on… She has to deal with her captors while also trying to figure out what they want and where the hell she is!
Overall Thoughts! I can’t believe it’s a first novel for this author! Following Sebastien and Lucille’s story was intriguing with fantastic side characters. Each guy’s personality was different from one another. You feel connected to each one by the end. I felt so many emotions in this book! And I even laughed out loud a bit at some funny moments and inner dialogues.
While I did find it our MMC emotions changed quickly that it felt out of left field. But thankfully that didn’t stop me from enjoying this read. I wish it was longer so it’d show the emotions forming a little more naturally to make sense better. But the plot itself was so good and truly unique from other romantasy novels I’ve read!
I truly look forward to reading the next book to see where this adventure goes! By the end you’ll be hooked for sure!!!!
I had the opportunity of reading Heart for a Heart early. First of all, I’m so grateful to the author Sedona Jessie for the privilege of arc reading her debut novel.
This is an immersive story with elaborate world building, colorful characters, and unique concepts. It was so easy to get lost in the magic and the details that I felt like I was transported in to her world. Who doesn’t want that when reading fantasy?! If you’re a fan of the show Lucifer, the book Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, and into the vibes of Hozier, I definitely recommend this book!
I can’t wait to get the physical copy in my hands to keep forever. I will always treasure this story about love, friendship, and rising to the occasion, and I cannot wait to see where she takes this series. I’m looking forward to seeing more from her in the future!
Oh boy, I really wanted to like this. Especially since the synopsis had me so intrigued, but ultimately it needed so much more development in both the world-building and characters.
The world-building felt like too many different things all mashed together. It had the typical romantasy tropes but the execution of them just didn’t feel right. The world-building between different realms lacked information for the plot, and the pacing of the storyline just felt too quick.
Now for the characters, everything happened between them so fast with little emotional interactions. The dynamic between all the men and Lucille just didn’t make any sense. It felt like Sebastian, Cyx, and Seymour had very little meaningful interactions with Lucille before declaring they’d burn the world for her. Not to mention all the degrading name-calling that happened for 60% of the book. Nicknames are fine, but repeatedly calling the FMC “soiling, rat, human filth,” etc. is just a big no for me. Now individually…
- The FMC, Lucille, was courageous at times given the situation she found herself in, but ultimately just became fine being kidnapped and taken to some magical realm pretty quickly. - Sebastian. I hated this mf. He was so intolerable with his degrading, alpha-male personality for majority of the book. And even when he did open up near the end, I didn’t care for him one bit. - Cyx was fine, I found myself growing a little towards him, but the ominous, mystery about his identity and his secrets just became old quickly, and we still didn’t even find anything out about him besides that he’s supposedly a portal mage. - Seymour I liked the most until the end, so there goes all that 😂
I think this had a lot of potential, and hopefully there will be a lot more development (for everything) in book 2.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
"He tilted my chin ever so slightly up. Every fiber of my being sung under his touch, like my soul had been finely tuned to a melody that belonged to him." (ch 25)
Sebastien, a Fae prince, had been cursed, his magic taken, and banished to the Human Realm to live as a human. After almost a century, he came back to his dwelling to find an unexpected visitor. The one human, he had been waiting for, the key.
Lucille just wanted shelter from the storm, but instead got caught by an aggressive barbarian that mishandled her like a ragdoll. Next thing she knew, she was abducted and had just landed -- roughly -- in a world straight out of a fairytale... or nightmare? with him and his two very strange companions.
On their way to bring the sacrificial lamb to the slaughter, they make shocking discoveries they never expected. .....
Really liked how fiery Lucille was and the lip she gave Bas when he was being overbearing -- which was often. And loved her interactions and easy (mostly) connections with both Cyx and Semour, especially Cyx... except when they obeyed and defended their Prince.
The switches in emotions and the feels between her and each of them were a little confusing, though, like she was going to have a Why Choose kind of thing (BTW there is no spice). Even though I knew it wouldn't end that way, it still felt presented that way... until certain revelations came to light.
And the battle scenes with creatures were epic! So exhilarating and thrillingly heart-racing. Well written!
And then there are the TWISTS... 👀 OMGEE!!! What the everliving heck?! Oh, so friggin' good!!! Clever, clever, clever! And cliffhanger! Ack! *Sob*
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Sedona for the trust!
Heart for a Heart is a Romantasy with multiple realms, a seductive shapeshifter, a surly portal mage and a disgruntled, volatile fae prince. No spice and a lot of dangers. Did I mention the wonderful plot twists?
~*~
“…it was only her heart that mattered, and the husk that contained it didn’t matter so long as that organ in her chest continued to beat. ”
Lucille finds herself in a precarious situation. Beaten and kidnapped by three beautiful men upon entering what she thought was the library. They want her for her heart, which seems to be the key to it all. Sebastien, an exiled fae prince in the human realm for the last 100 years earns to finally go home to set things straight: he did not kill his father, the King.
“A heart for a heart. Those were Mother’s last words to me.”
If Sebastien brings her a human heart, the Queen said she would be able to resurrect his father and his exile would end. Along with his companions, Cyx (a portal mage) and Seymour (a shapeshifter), Sebastian will take Lucille on a perilous journey to remedy the injustice of it all.
But will that heart fulfil its intended purpose or will it sway the three men to their core?
~*~
I have given a 3.5 stars’ review mainly due to the discrepancy in the shift between hate and love. The pace of the story is also very fast and there seems to be lacking that warm up phase that eventually changes someone’s mind/heart. It is a bit violently graphic at times, which unfortunately is not my cup of tea, but if I look past that, the plot is very interesting and really leaves you at the edge of your seat for the next book in the series.
Edited: POV comment deleted since it was due to being disabled in dark mode on first version.
Thank you Sedona Jessie for allowing me to get an ARC of your book!
Overall, I thought that this was a good story!! It was very unique and original, not like something I've read before. When the book first started, I felt that the pacing was a little slow. I didn't understand why things were happening. The book really picked up about halfway through, and then I could not put it down. I mean, hello???!!! That ending???? I seriously need to read the next book NOW. I need to know what happens next.
The book is told from multiple POVs, which I love, and it's a slow burn. But I mean, who doesn't love a good slow burn? The tension in the book is high between Sebastian and Lucille, and it will have you swooning. I loved both of their characters, but I wish that I knew more about them. I'm hoping for a second book that will tell us more about both of them.
Tropes: -Slow burn -Fae's -Multiple POV's -Enemies to Lovers
This is a quick read that is fast paced and I was hooked from the beginning! I kept wondering what the heck was going on but in the best way. Although I caught on to what the plot twist was I wasn’t expecting everything after that, it was so good! It does end on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait for the next book!!
I’m bummed to say I didn’t really enjoy this. I think the plot had such potential, but just felt way too fast paced and maybe I’m dumb but I felt confused for a lot of it. I think it took place over the span of like a week?? and all of a sudden the MMC is goo goo gaga over FMC?
Positive notes, I liked the author’s writing style which normally I’m pretty picky with. Also there’s a twist I did not see coming at the end which did draw me back in. Will possibly read the second just to see what happens.
I’m a bit torn over this one - I think the premise is really interesting, there was an excellent plot twist at the end, and even though I’m not usually a sci fi reader, I appreciated the elements of the futuristic here.
However - the early part of the story feels a bit abrupt, the FMC is instantly dragged in and being whisked away by the MMCs and they treat her really poorly. For me, this felt less like enemies to lovers and more like Stockholm Syndrome. It’s a little unclear who exactly the love interest is of the MMCs or if we’re heading for a why choose - but I felt like none of them redeemed themselves enough for me to enjoy them as a love interest, they’re all a bit unlikeable, and one in particular really unlikeable, even with the background information we are given later in the story. There just isn’t enough detail from the interactions with the FMC to understand why she likes any of them at all, or why they like her to be honest.
The story seems like it could become quite interesting, especially once we see what the author does with the plot twist at the end of this book.
It’s a quick read and it was reasonably well written in terms of grammar / spelling, dialogue etc., just maybe a bit lacking in pacing and development,
I’ll probably read book 2, I’m hoping things pick up a bit and are explained a bit more there.
Thank you so much to Sedona Jessie for allowing me to read an advanced copy of her debut book.
You know when you finish a book and then you just have to sit there and marinate in all your thoughts?? Well that’s been me for a few days. I even texted a friend to talk about it because I needed to get my thoughts out in the world.
This was such a unique story with an incredibly interesting world and magic system. My initial impression was that the setting of this story was giving Crescent City vibes which I am not mad about at all. It was a nice mix of modern technology and otherworldly magic.
I loved the multi-pov chapters and as soon as I realized that one character was a shapeshifting cat I was SOLD. Also!!! And this is a big one! We finally have an older FMC! As a 32 year old romantasy reader I get really tired of reading about 17 year old girls. Lucille was a realistic and mature FMC and I can’t wait to read more about her in the next book.
Speaking of the next book…..I need it asap. The ending of this one leaves you with SO many questions. Again, I had to phone a friend just to discuss it because my mind was whirring.
Overall, I think this was a very solid debut novel and I can’t wait to see where this series goes!
Aesthetic:🫀🗡️🪽👑🩸🧚🏻📚🦅 I seriously loved loved this book,I’m seriously so glad there’s book two, because THAT ending needed more words to help me understand the words that cause me a shock. It’s dark fantasy, with the trope of Grumpy-Sunshine,Enemies To Lovers, and Forbidden Love.
I loved the characters,I started off as a Cyx girly, but then I feel like I can’t decide between him and Sebastien because I feel like I still have so much to read since this is the first book and I started liking him more later in the book! I also really like Lucille, one of the main characters,I saw a bit of me in her!
When I tell you that this book is filled with plot twists, you have to believe me. I actually couldn’t believe what I was reading because of how crazy things got in the end.
As a debut novel….. that’s crazy and literally so impressive!! PLEASE read it!! 𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪
~”I would protect her, even if it meant the realm burned under my mother’s reign, and I burned along with it.”
~”She set such a fire in my veins.how could something so beautiful be so infuriating? Her very essence crawled beneath my skin with every word and glance. She made me irate!” 😩
Thank you @literarysedona for allowing me to be an ARC reader for this amazing book (out 14th April! Get your hands on it!) I had such a fun time reading this and it has fully brought me out of a month long reading slump, I read it in 3 days!
It was beautifully written with a fast paced style and each chapter left you wanting more. I simply couldn't put it down!
I loved learning about the magic system and the world building was perfect; usually with fantasies these two aspects can be quite confusing but I can vouch that this book and author hit the nail on the head. The different realms and use of aura as magic was, dare I say it, ✨magical✨ to read about!
I didn't know I was going into a love triangle esque trope, but I'm fully on team Cyx!! I do love a grumpy, mean prince (Sebastian) but there's something about this broody portal mage that has my heart!
If you're looking for an exciting, innovative, fast paced and plot twisty read then this is the right book for you! I was gasping come the last 20% - as spoiler free as I can be, I CANNOT wait for book 2! I need to find out what happens next with Lucille🤍🪽
Fav Quote: "I could devour her whole, and that still wouldn't be enough." 🖤🐦⬛
This was really a 3.5, but I rounded up. I was REALLY skeptical of this one for like the first 30%, but then I was all in. I was so proud of myself for guessing everything correctly and then BAM that last chapter???? I have so many questions and am definitely looking forward to the next book.
I would have loved a glossary that clarified what each being was as well as a basic breakdown of the different beings and hierarchies of the universe, but I'm sure things will make more sense as more books are released. Some of the diction felt a little too overdone, but really, I just had a hard time being able to visualize a lot of what was happening.
Good for fans of fantasy, dystopia-ish vibes, and video game lovers (iykyk).
This book was such a wild ride. I went from a little confused, but loving the premise to loving the story, to picking sides with my favorite characters, to confused again, to salivating for MORE. A ride I’d gladly take over and over again.
I was never 100% sure who to trust, which I think is fun in a book. Who can out FMC trust? Who will hurt her? Who will break her heart? Can we even trust her?? My favorite parts were that we got to hear every characters POV. I think it really added to the element of surprise and wonder because we knew what was happening before the other characters.
With our ruining anything: ma’am, that ending had me sitting straight up in my bed and screaming “WHAT”?!?! Sign me up for book 2. I can’t wait!
Thank you so much to Sedona Jessie for sending me an ARC of her novel Heart for a Heart which will be released on April 14th. This is my first read of a book that is not actually out yet!
Description:
How far would you go to save your own heart?
Review: I enjoyed this book a lot. I just wanted to keep reading it to find out what happened next along the journey of Lucille, Sebastien, Cyx, and Seymour. The dialogue between the four was really engaging. I did not see the twist at the end coming. The cover is also beautiful. I will definitely have to get a physical copy Definitely recommend checking it out.
Favourite quotes: 'Plus, there was nothing more comforting than hunkering down next to a trove of books'.
'Sure, why not. Let's talk with and follow the weird cat in the weird mansion library'.
This was my first ARC read and I was thrilled to be a part of it! This is my genuine review and I really did love it!
This book is like an onion, layers and tears, but all in the best way!
Things I love: ❤️🔥 descriptive words to build the scenes ❤️🔥 grumpy/secretive/broody and sunshine ❤️🔥 multiple POVs ❤️🔥 love triangle (why choose vibes) ❤️🔥 slow burn and mystery
I really didn’t want to put the book down once I started it. I enjoyed all of the main characters: Lucille, Sebastian, Seymour, and Cyx, plus the world building was enough for me.
I feel that there’s enough closure but making me wanting the next book without it being a cliffhanger.
“The Human Realm was beyond bleak. It was nothing more than a trash heap overflowing with vanity and hate.” (well said, and sometimes, I have to agree!)
I received an advanced copy of this book but the opinions are 100% mine. Thank you to Sedona Jessie.
Initial reaction after finishing this today… WHOA! If you’re picking this one up, please keep your hands and feet inside at all times, buckle up and enjoy the ride! This is absolutely what fantasy books are about – an immersive experience with masterful world building, beautiful descriptions that paint full scenes easily in my mind’s eye and interesting characters and interactions that are magical. Fantastical words that transport you to another world. I was drawn in completely from the first chapter. I had no idea where things were going from that first interaction but I was buckled in and ready for the ride.
Think of this kind of as a Beauty and the Beast retelling from the enchanted mansion where a curse must be broken. This book will be part of a series and this one ends at the point where they each realize everyone’s part in this journey… just as it’s too late to change course. You know… the part where you’re comfortable in the quest you know they’re on… oh, but wait. PLOT TWIST. The kind where you have to completely disengage, look up with that WTF face (you know you have one) and think surely, I misread. Then you flip back a page or two to make sure that you are indeed NOT reading it wrong. Damn! I just know it’s going to get better and better! I LOVE IT!
The story is told in multiple POV from the various characters. Sebastian, a banished fae full of vitriol and hate for anything human (the realm, the people, the physical world of it); Lucille, a spitfire FMC with a smart mouth and a fighting spirit; Cyx, the resident brawny, broody, badass portal mage and Seymour, a dutiful shifter.
Lucille, merely seeking refuge in a library from a downpour, finds herself kidnapped and taken to another realm as it appears she’s the key to breaking the curse of banishment of the prince who was accused of killing his father. His Mother, the Queen, demanded a human heart to resurrect his father and Lucille has unknowingly become that sacrifice. Sebastian waited over a century for this opportunity. Lucille was nothing more than a means to an end. He cared for nothing of her other than her heart be intact so that he was returned to his full status and regency. However, Lucille - just being herself - stirs something in each of her captors.
The methods of travel are so imaginative and… obviously… well, other-worldly. Honestly, they’re just friggin cool! The fact that so much was packed into this book is crazy. I was taken aback at how voraciously I devoured this. I would have read for much longer!
POTENTIAL SPOILERS 💠This book has no spice but for Origin’s sake, don’t let that stop you from reading a FANTASTIC BOOK – it simply doesn’t need it. I didn’t know going in if it was spicy or not (not that I care) and to be honest, I was kind of getting a reverse harem vibe (which I’m not really into) so I was truly thankful that wasn’t the case 💠 Seymour – WTF DUDE!
MEH 🔆 There were a few formatting issues, line breaks, missing words, odd sentence structure, but all in all a solid book 🔆 I wished Lucille’s memory return was fleshed out a little more elaborately only because I feel like that in and of itself would have been worthy of a complete and utter earth shattering moment 🔆 Lucille’s inner dialogue when she was contemplating their hotness and then was like “Stockholm syndrome.” I kept thinking girl you’re nuts… but again, that’s what they do in fantasy books, right? It did feel a little rushed, but I do think that it also is demonstrative that her heart was full of empathy and compassion.
LOVED 💞 Lucille’s smart mouth and witty comeback. 💞 The botanical garden - I want to go! 💞 The kiss atop the head in a protective and loving capacity yet I still wanted to hate him. 💞 A MMC with vulnerability 💞 The pixies 💞 The whole situation with the golden thread from the vision… very interesting spin 💞 Black protective wings
FAV QUOTES ✨ “The walls were colored like the night sky had come down to share her darkness with them.” ✨ “Nothing here will ever make sense if you don’t start accepting what you’re seeing for what it is.”
I received an eARC for this book, and was excited for an opportunity to launch into a new fantasy world. And I would have to say that this book delivered. I really enjoyed this story. It was interesting, fun, and pretty fast-paced. I loved how there were seeds planted along the way about different plot twists and reveals, and those really payed off. There are plot twists towards the end of the book that are not only intriguing, but incredibly satisfying and have me ready for the next book.
I will say that the writing was just average for me. I didn’t have any issues with it, but nothing stood out either, like favorite quotes or funny moments or beautiful lines. I did really appreciate how language was adjusted for the fantasy element of the book, things like how the characters would use their own god/creator figure in exclamations and that they had their own unique names for food/drinks rather than passing it off as a wine or other real world equivalent. Details like that really help with the world-building. I overall had mixed feelings about the world-building. There were a lot of good details and moments that set the scene, but I still found the world-building to be a bit lacking. I wanted more. I wanted more explanation for how this world works, the creatures, the powers, the dynamics, etc. I think we have a solid foundation for that to be built up in the next book, but this book is so short that I think there was space to extend and further explain things. I also think the pacing was off. Things would move quickly and then drag, move quickly, and drag. And then the last 20% of the book seemed like the bulk of the real story.
Overall, I had fun with this book. I am looking forward to the next one so I can see how this develops. I gave this 3.75 stars.
“There’s nowhere you can go where I won’t find you.”
I absolutely devoured this book.
We’ve got a pretty interesting cast of characters. Lucille has a lot of spunk and is a fighter at heart. I love that no matter what comes her way, she’s doing her best to survive. As far as her traveling companions, I have some thoughts. Bas is just a jerk. I’m not sure if he was intended to be a morally gray mc or something but he comes across as a petulant child. I do like Cyx and he’s more fleshed out in the next installation.
The world building could have been a bit more. The descriptions used were absolutely gorgeous but a little sparse in the magic realm in my opinion. The parts of the realm that were described were great so I think maybe I just wanted more.
The romance aspect is definitely slow burn. We’re at the end of the first book and I genuinely am not sure where it’s going to go in terms of a relationship. The progression felt off. The buildup didn’t feel authentic to me. The catalyst of acknowledging feelings was pretty interesting though so bonus points there.
The ending though. That was one of the biggest plot twists I’ve read in a while. Literally took me out because I did not see it coming. I’m really excited to see where the story goes.
Thank you Sedona Jessie for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Update: I couldn't stop thinking about this book all day so I changed my rating from a 3.5 to a 4 ⭐.
Starts out with injustice and mystery, automatically pulling me in. The push and pull of two strangers are looming for the fmc/mmc. Sedona Jessie creates a whole new world, filled with mystery, history, torment, creatures of all kinds, and magic. Completely immersing the reader, to where you want to know more about Lucille and Sebastian who walk the line between love and hate, thrust into one another’s lives unwillingly, neither known of the connection or consequences looming. The other two main characters Cyx and Seymour are on a whole other level, adding to the plot while you unravel all the twists and turns for this trio. Although no spice, it hints at more going on in this trio, giving off all the fated vibes, keeping you enthralled through out the story. As it unwinds like a twisting, thrilling roller Coaster ride, you just don’t see or expect What’s coming! The betrayals run deep and there’s so much more…reminiscent of Total recall, not all realities are what they seem!! In the end, wait to what end..Lucille’s hanging by a thread..
Thank you @literarySedona for choosing me as an eARC reader of your book! Go pick up Heart for a Heart released today 4/14!)
This was an easy read for me as I was instantly hooked with an incredible plot setup, easy to follow storyline, fast-paced action and full plot twists and mystery!
You follow Lucille and her immersion into this new magic world with unique other characters and creatures alike, including shapeshifting that will surprise you!
I LOVED the multiple POV to be able to learn more of the inner thoughts and monologue of more than one character. I’m not into the bully trope so one of the characters was harder to digest.
The cliff hanger this book will leave off at..wow!! Absolutely looking forward to the next of this storyline!
If you’re looking for an action packed, mystery in a magical world that has twists in every turn, this is your book!! Go start your adventure into this new fantasy world today!
If there is one thing we readers have learnt, it is this: Always act first and ask questions later..
Lucille Ceres did not believe that by entering a bookshop, her world would turn upside down 👀 Cyx Andromedi, Seymour Sein and Sebastian Hellebore found the most propitious moment to tempt fate and return to where they belong: to the Magic Realm. But to do so, a little kidnapping was necessary, unfortunately🤭
The royal prince is not at all happy about this, but revenge is more important: a heart for a heart.
Never had this extended group imagined that the return home would be seemingly bland, only to turn into a bloodbath💀
In the middle of the book, I saw some similarities with Arthur and the Minimoys. There's a subplot where the queen is ready to sacrifice her own blood in order to increase her power😶 The ending also reminded me of Mickey 17, because it was a dark fantasy with a sci-fi twist😱
Can't wait to see what the author has in store for us❤️🔥
I received this book as an ARC reader, which I’ve really loved doing! The writing style in this book was incredible. The author did a phenomenal job at explaining details when appropriate and keeping my attention the entire book. I wish it was longer though!! It had sooo much potential to be an absolute masterpiece but there was just not enough detail, dialog between characters, and storyline. I wanted to learn more about the realm!! I also wish there would have been more background at the beginning to explain Bas and his mother’s relationship, it would have helped the reader to understand his back and forth love and hatred towards the FMC. I picked up on quite a few typos as well, which hopefully will get fixed before the book is fully released. The ending was a surprising plot twist that definitely made me excited for the next book though! Added an extra level to the story!!
I was lucky enough to get an eARC copy of this book.
4 stars all the way. This was a super quick read and kept my interest from the start to finish. This book was so easy to read and understand her world building.
We have Lucille as the main character. She enters in a strange library to get out of the rain and is taken prisoner for her human heart. We then met the next main characters what have taken Lucille hostage: Sebastian, Cyx, and Seymour.
You learn to love and hate all these characters throughout the book. -I wish there was a little more character growth for Lucille. I wanted to see her come into the feisty lead I know she has in her. -Sebastian was rude, selfish, and overall a morally grey lead (but I still loved him). -Cyx was always watching but was always there for Lucille. I loved him so much. And at the end with him… -Seymour was so nice all the time, almost too nice at times but he fit into the group.
The story was interesting and I have not read a book like it. But we need to talk about the last chapters because…wow what a cliffhanger.
The atmosphere was the definition of magical. Sedona created such an amazing and captivating world. The aura of it all ✨
Sabastien had me laughing for most of the book, he says the funniest things about earth and humans. While all the characters are interesting to read, everything about Lucille was fascinating, like I had/have so many questions.
Cyx is such a sweetheart underneath his harsh shell. He better answer some questions in the next book. The garden scene between him and Lucille was probably my favorite scene. Meanwhile Seymour was being a flirt. The more insight into his past the more disheartening it got.
Perfect if you enjoy fantasy and great world building!
I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to read my first arc novel! It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the experience. Thank you Jessie, for including me in your journey!
I won’t rate this book because it’s not exactly what I was expecting. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fast paced book with lots of action and angst, it just wasn’t for me. I was very excited for this book for the first 8 chapters, it was exactly what I wanted, but then it took an almost sci-fi turn that I totally did not see coming.
Others seem to love it, so I would definitely give it a try if I were you! The author’s writing style is amazing and immediately sucks you in. You’re in for a wild, wild ride.
I love a good no spice Fantasy read and this book served it up on a platter. When you read this you get an amazing fantasy read, a little bit of a mystery, a crazy amount of plot twists, and pretty good writing style. This is a quick read and it leaves you wanting the next book. All in all this a really good debut novel. Congrats on your Debut Sedona!
