EyeRobics : How to Improve Your Vision

Rate this book
EyeRobics is an exciting new approach to eye fitness extending today's heightened interest in general fitness and healthy life styles. The techniques are based on current research that shows there are techniques one can learn to maintain or regain vision fitness.

The book is divided into three parts. Part I - includes both distance and reading charts to help the reader to assess where he is now so he has a basis for measuring improvement. Part II - explains the mechanics of vision and common refractive errors so the reader better understands his vision problem. Part III - describes exercises and behavioral techniques the reader can use to correct his eyesight. Those who suffer from common refractive errors have really only lost flexibiltiy, coordination and their ability to relax. The exercises were created to address these problems.

In the year 2000, shortly after graduation, I became a software engineer. A scant year later, I needed glasses for the first time ever. I hated this, and bought this book to try to fight it. I've found the lessons in it invaluable. I have no idea if they've really made a difference, although my feeling is I'd have a stronger prescription by now if I didn't do them. I wish I could a/b test that!

I bought this book years ago in a class taught by the author. I hadn't really thought much about it until recently when my far sight declined and I searched the house for the book. This book is short, but if you can find it, and have a vision problem, it's a great start on the road to improving your vision. Roy basically follows the Bates method (of better eyesight without glasses), which has been practiced for years, and is still popular because it was on loan at the library when I requested it. In Eyerobics, I really liked the section about the eye glasses industry, and the fact that they aren't interested in a customer having better vision because, expensive lenses and frames make it pay to have customers come back for stronger prescriptions year after year. I also liked the section on relaxation techniques, something that's easy to forget about with eyes.
