A family torn apart, a detective vanished, and a wife clinging to the one truth she refuses to surrender
Dead or Alive doesn’t ease you in — it hits like a heartbreak you feel in your bones. Lila and Eric Abbott are finally on the edge of something good again, finally breathing a little easier, finally letting themselves believe in happiness… and then everything shatters in a single, brutal moment. Their young son is shot. Their infant daughter is taken. And the world they were rebuilding collapses before they can even understand what’s happening. It’s raw, devastating, and the kind of emotional blow that leaves you hollow.
While the Abbotts are drowning in terror and grief, Detective Parker Bell — the man who should be fighting for their daughter — disappears without a trace. No explanation. No warning. Just gone. And suddenly the people who love him are left in a limbo that feels almost cruel, none more so than his new wife, Tessa.
Tessa refuses to believe the whispers. She refuses to accept the idea that Parker walked away from her. She holds onto the truth she knows in her heart: he would never abandon her, not now, not ever. But the people around her have seen the changes in him, the shadows, the distance, the weight he’s been carrying alone. And the question they keep circling — the one she can’t bear to let in — is whether Parker is missing because something happened to him… or because he chose to leave.
The emotional tension is relentless. Tessa’s fear, her determination, her desperate hope — it all feels so real, so human, so painfully honest. And as the Abbotts’ nightmare deepens, their tragedy intertwines with hers, creating a story that’s layered, gripping, and impossible to step away from.
Dead or Alive is a powerful, heart‑wrenching installment in the Parker Bell series — a story about love under pressure, trust stretched to its breaking point, and the unbearable weight of not knowing. It’s emotional, tense, and beautifully crafted, leaving you aching for answers and deeply invested in every character’s fate.

The past keeps coming back to haunt and torment Tessa and the pressures on her marriage to Parker Bell is showing signs of cracking. Will they each reach a breaking point as tempers flare, more secrets are kept and Parker begins to feel like he is the outsider in all things Tessa.
Parker is given another heart-wrenching case, one that will destroy a young family when both of their young children are taken in a random carjacking. The young boy is found murdered and the baby girl is gone and it is up to Parker and Wyatt to find the infant before it’s too late. As the pressure mounts, things at home also hit a boiling point, and Parker leaves. When he doesn’t return, doesn’t show up for work and doesn’t contact anyone, only Tessa believes there has been foul play. Have his friends all become so anti-Parker when it comes to Tessa that they are blind to the possibility something terrible has happened? Once again, Tessa puts herself in danger, this time to save Parker and to tell him she is pregnant. Will she be too late? Will they both die together? Is this her past coming back to give her another helping of pure Hell? Then HE showed up and both of their lives are saved, but not before more heartache will be heaped on this troubled pair.
DEAD OR ALIVE by Jane Blythe may be one of her grittiest installments in the Detective Parker Bell series. It takes a confident talent to write of death and pain and make it bearable for her readers, but Jane Blythe has done exactly that. The murder of a small child, the abduction of an infant and worse. The lines between good and evil, sane and insane are blurred and no one will go unscathed. Loyalties will change, faith will be lost and trust will be shattered once again as Tessa and Parker are robbed of any chance to privately fight for or forfeit their marriage. Dark, with tension coiled like a snake ready to spring, readers will find that while some characters become more frustrating, some become downright unlikable and relationships become questionable at best.
Could it be that even love won’t stand a chance against Tessa’s wall and Parker’s insecurity? Where will Jane Blythe take us next time? Her bold style is undeniable and she doesn’t worry how her characters come across, her design is to entertain ad make one think, feel and react and she has met her goal.
I received this copy from Jane Blythe in exchange for my honest review.

Dead Or Alive by Jane Blythe starts out with a BANG…and keeps on going.
Detective Parker Bell is doing his grocery shopping, just a mundane chore we can all relate to, when he hears a gunshot and sees a car screeching out of the parking lot. Two bodies are lying on the pavement…
The characters all have their heavy baggage to bear and miscommunication abounds because of their need to protect themselves, and their secrets. Parker and Tessa are together, but she holds tight to her thoughts and feelings. It’s a good thing he has patience and so much love for her.
Wyatt is Parker’s partner, but he thinks of him as his brother. Parker has a tendency to let his emotions rule him, becoming personally involved in many of his cases. That is how him and Tessa came to be together, but that is another story.
I love Jane Blythe’s ability to put me in the middle of the suspense and danger, Darkness and their past seem to dog their every footstep.
Tessa…she is my favorite character. If something needs to be done, she feels she must do it herself. She will sacrifice everything for Parker and her friends and family. She puts herself last.
I had trouble with a few things, but as the story came together and Jane was wrapping everything up, it all became clear. I love when an author leads me down a path that trips me up and leaves me saying, AHA, I get it now.
When Parker comes up missing, she makes a deal with the devil…and that is the tease for the next book in this standalone series. I do recommend beginning at the beginning because I have loved every step of the way, but Jane Blythe recaps a lot of the past action so that you can know why these characters do what they do.
SO…What’s the cost of making a deal with the devil? Find out in Little Girl Lost.

Parker and Tessa are married. They are also raising her teenage niece. Parker is in a pity spiral after being intimately involved with another case. This time a car jacking resulted in the death of a 5 YO boy and the kidnapping of an infant girl. Since neither Parker or Tessa know how to deal with their issues in a healthy way (Tessa I think is actually causing Parker to regress) he of course is taking out his frustrations from the case on her. Tessa does what she always does, nothing, she doesn’t share and she doesn’t help. When Parker disappears, Tessa knows that something is wrong and is determined to find him. But when all her friends believe he simply walked away from his life, Tessa decides to find him on her own.
Tessa once again does her own thing even when she is at risk. She reaches out to a mysterious person to help her and forms a relationship with an old friend of Parker’s despite everyone’s warnings about this mysterious stranger. Once again the strong writing makes you keep reading. I liked this story a lot better than the previous books, but if you read my previous reviews you know I still don’t like Tessa or Parker. I will say that Tessa is starting to grow on me but her decisions continue to baffle me. Tessa still won’t share anything with anyone including Parker, and Parker lashes out at Tessa and also doesn’t communicate which is what makes it easy for each and every one of his friends to assume he just ran away from his life. Tessa’s unwavering belief in Parker is probably her most endearing quality. The mystery was a bit predictable but overall a solid book and the best so far in the series.

Jesus.
Every book by this author keeps you guessing but this took it to a whole other level.
Not much can be said about this book without spoiling it, but wow, yet again the different layers will leave you speechless.

I was hooked once again right from the beginning with this one. These books just keep getting better and better with each one that you read. Parker and Tessa have quite a few pressures on their marriage. It is showing signs of cracking. A lot is going on between these two and with this storyline. This revolves around another heart wrenching case. I wanted to cry reading about what happened in this one. This is a case that will destroy a young family when both of their young children are taken from them. As the pressure mounts to find out who did this, things with Parker and Tessa hit a boiling point, and Parker leaves. When he doesn't return, Tessa thinks there is foul play but she is the only one that thinks that. Tessa will do what is needed to save her husband even risk her live once again. But what will happen? An amazing storyline. Once again great suspense, mystery, breath taking moments that have you turning the page trying to figure out what is going to happen next. Every single book I read from this series I get deeper and deeper in with this writer. She is amazing and knows how to draw you into a book. I absolutely loved this one. I have to say it is my favorite from the three I have read. But then again they just keep getting better and better.

When the sins of others come home to roost.
It is hard not to sit in a complete state of nervous tension as I read this book. I could feel Tessa’s frustration and wanted to hurt their friends as they didn’t believe in her love and loyalty for Parker. It seems that this dysfunctional family can get no breaks at mistakes and the sins of others come to claim a part of their lives.
Jane is a master at keeping people busy with a complete sub plot while the main story carries on in the background. She leaves a seemingly haphazard and incomplete trail of clues, revealing only a part of the story, yet leaves us thinking we have a theory.
Ms Blythe leaves us with the perfect hook into the next book, Little Girl Lost, and I’m left thinking, what can go wrong for them now. 5 Stars

Where do I begin? Continuing on in the series, we find Parker and Tessa once again mixed up in a crazy nightmare of a case. Just when you think nothing else could possibly happen to these two after the first two books, along comes another seriously messed up case. I felt more frustrated in this book. Tessa seems to think she’s invincible and keeps putting herself in harms way and it really annoys me! I dislike her more after reading this story. I felt like yelling at her and telling her to shut up and think about what her actions and words were doing to others. Parker definitely deserves better in this story! Another highly twisted, rollercoaster story that I read in one sitting. Couldn’t put it down!

Wow. I am loving these books. There is some much trauma, emotion and angst coming off the pages.
This one starts with the most upsetting events and Parker and Tessa do what they must. As we have cmoe to expect Tessa is willing to put herself in the line of fire to save others and we feel Parkers frustration with her actions. He clearly feels her lack of faith in his abilities but it is so much more nuanced than that.
Wehn Parker dissapears only Tessa knows that things are not as they seem. Will she be able to connvince their friends?
I love the glimpses we see of the villains thoughts during Janes books. This adds great compelxity and emjoyment. I look forward to the next book.

Oh boy, the emotional roller coaster in this book is a humdinger. I found myself with tears in my eyes and feeling utterly devastated in many scenes as they reach in and rip your heart out.
There is such a great mystery behind the original one that when you find out who the perpetrator is you are gobsmacked. Everything connects and it is very clever but you need to have read the first two books to gain a full understanding of the story.
I have to admit that Tessa does have the tendency to annoy me a bit. For a genius she sure makes some questionable decisions. They make for an exciting climax though, I will admit.

I liked this book and I think this is a very enjoyable series. I think Parker is a great hero. He is easy to like and I just find him a interesting character. The heroine, Tessa is another story. From book one I have had issues with this character and I had hoped things would get better but if anything they are getting worse. In my opinion, she is exceedingly unlikable. The story is well written and extremely suspenseful. There is lots of drama and tension to help keep you on edge as the story unfolds. This is my candid, elective review.

I was really into the story, what a page-turner, couldn't put down until I was finished. I was so surprised to see what Lila had to go through, made me say why!!! Then what Matilda had to live with. Then Parker had to go and wonder why he didn't save the boy and save the little girl. . So many story lines that come altogether. I just wonder where Jane gets her ideas, this book is crazy. Highly recommend

Another great story in this series!
I was sucked in right away and couldn’t wait to find out what happened. I was frustrated with Parker’s friends and family for not believing in him, but thankfully Tessa believed in him the entire time. I picked out the bad guy from the beginning, just not the reason behind it. Can’t wait for book 4!

Wow Parker and Tessa's story is so intense. I really enjoyed this book there was just so much going it was like reading two books in one. I figured out who the villain was but never in my wildest dreams would i have figured out who it actually was. Another riveting book from this author. Loved it.

Once again Jane Blythe has written a pulse pounding book. It starts right off with such a soul shattering scene. Tessa is scared, sick and vulnerable. She feels betrayed by her friends. The writing is terrific and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Action packed! This book has numerous cases all linked together with never ending action.
I enjoy the series written by Jane Blythe, she has a great flair with her words and in her ability to intertwine her characters’ lives. The startling, horrific beginning of this book ‘grabs’ you and pulls you in.
I would like to slightly mention that Tessa's world is a constant re-do, Tessa continues to relive her past by putting herself in harm’s way. However, the reader must remember, Parker Bells love for Tessa is so great that he continues to put up with her never ending problems and attitude. How does he do it? Many different relationships have these types of characters.
I whole heartily agree that I love Parker Bell as well.

Another page turner in the Detective Parker Bell series. This time the pressure gets to Bell and he steps out of the picture. Or does he....?
Several intertwining cases keep the action coming non-stop. Blythe keeps things fresh by adding new, interesting characters along side those that we have come to know.
A good read.
