Andi Stevens drives away from her home town of Seattle and says goodbye to her sister to begin a new life with her fiancé in Buffalo, New York. When her car breaks down in the mountains of Montana, she reluctantly knocks on the door of a cabin for help. What she finds is Luke Brennan, the most handsome man she's ever met, who appears annoyed by her bothering him and is also downright rude. He takes her up to the main ranch house where his mother welcomes her warmly, opening their home to her for as long as she needs to stay. Andi quickly falls in love with the ranch and its occupants, and the beauty of Montana. And no matter how hard they fight it, she and the brooding cowboy form a bond that becomes stronger by the day. Andi soon finds herself struggling with her promise to marry one man and the attraction she feels for another.
Luke Brennan isn't interested in having his heart broken again. He's loved and lost once, and he's hardened his heart against ever falling in love again. But when a beautiful woman with the most tantalizing green eyes shows up at his door one night, he is taken by surprise. As hard as he tries to stay away from Andi, he finds himself drawn to her time and time again. But she's a city girl, and engaged to another man. She's off limits. Yet, he finds his heart slowly giving itself away to this woman. Should he bet against all odds and tell her how he feels before it's too late?
Does fate hold all the cards for the cowboy and the city girl, or will they choose their own destinies?

I just love it when I know I have a new Deanna Lynn Sletten book to read! I absolutely adore her stories! Kiss a Cowboy was a wonderful escape from my hectic, crazy, busy life.
Andi is traveling cross country to start a new life in New York with her fiancé. Then... her car breaks down. Can she trust the nearest stranger to help her out? And that stranger, Luke isn't sure what to make of this 'city girl'.
'He may be good looking, but that didn't mean he wasn't a serial killer.'
As Andi is stuck out in the middle of nowhere, on this ranch, waiting for her car to be fixed, she learns a lot about herself and what she wants and needs out of life. Maybe what she has isn't what she needs, but is just convenient.
'Suddenly, guilt crept over Andi for comparing the two men. It wasn't fair. Derek was a good man who worked hard at this job and was successful, and he wanted to share that success, and his life, with her. She should be proud that such a man loved her, yet here she was, comparing him to Luke. It was apples and oranges. There was no comparison. They were two different types of men living two very different lifestyles.'
I loved how Luke's family embraced Andi and took her in as one of their own when it becomes evident that she is stuck there for awhile. I felt the love and warmth that they extended to her as I read the story. What a wonderful family!
I have to admit, I find myself staying away from books that are classified as 'Romance'. I always think of that genre as the 'bodice-ripper' type of book. I know, I know, this genre has so much more to it than that. But Deanna wrote this story and since I love all of her stories, I was not going to miss out on one of her books, romance or not.
Kiss a Cowboy, has so much more to it than what I would expect to find in what I think of as a typical romance novel. Typical romance = lots of tension and angst among the main characters, so much that is almost hurts to read it and be a part of it. In Kiss a Cowboy, the reader witnesses the main character's friendship and love develop and grow, even though there are some rough spots along the way. Those rough spots are just things that the character have to work through. I guess I need to open up my mind to this wonderful, fun genre called 'Romance'.
As a side note: it seems like there are always facts in Deanna's stories that I can connect with. For example, in Kiss a Cowboy, the main character, Andi, leaves Seattle. My hubby and I are embarking on an Alaskan cruise in September, leaving from -- you guessed it, Seattle. She is driving a 2001 Ford Escape. My son drives a 2001 Ford Escape, which we helped pay for. And Andi considers stopping in Superior for the night but decides to travel on to Missoula. I grew up in Superior, granted in a different state but still... Making these connections so early in the story really makes me feel like I have a bond with the characters and the author.
Kiss a Cowboy is book #1 in the Kiss a Cowboy Series. Yay!! There is more to come from Deanna about these wonderful characters whom I came to know and love. And there are some great side characters that will be showing up again in the upcoming books of the series so we will get to know them even better. I can't wait for book #2 and I can't wait to go back to this world again.
'Enjoy the ranch, and be sure to kiss a cowboy for me.'
Andi Stevens is driving cross-country to start a new life. She's looking forward to some adventure along the way--having turned down her fiance's offer to simply fly her--but gets much more than she's expecting when her car breaks down.
Luke Brennan opens his door to her, and life will never be the same. Unfortunately, he's hardened toward love. Will they find their way to each other or simply accept the easier choices?
I loved these characters! Andi has a reserved spunk; she's strong, but still honing this part of her personality. Her sister, a great character who I believe is getting her own book, is more outgoing and in-your-face. This leaves Andi as the stronger, older sibling who usually chooses responsibility over going with her gut. Still, Andi begins to find her way, and it's all thanks to Luke. At first, he seems like nothing but broody, but Andi chips away at this hardened exterior.
This is a fun, highly romantic story. Thanks to great characters, witty dialog, and well-built relationships (I especially loved Luke's mom and how she takes in Andi), Kiss a Cowboy has a real depth to it. Sure, it's fun, but it's not cheesy.
If you are looking for a holiday read to warm your heart, look no further.

Hands down favorite book of the year! I wish I could rate this more than 5 stars.
Deanna has a way with words that seem to pull you in from the very first page. I was anxious to read this book as I have read and enjoyed all of her other books, but there is something about this one book that goes above and beyond!
This story starts with Andi driving away from her home, sister and the only life she has ever known. Taking one last trip alone across the country is what she needs and wants until her old car breaks down in the middle of no where on the side of the highway. With no cell phone service or any help, she turns to the ranch off in the distance and knocks on the door. What she doesn't expect is a sexy cowboy to answer the door.
Luke is sure he is dreaming when this beauty shows up on his doorstep. Having loved and lost before, he isn't ready to give his heart away again. He is content to be the ranch guy, help his mom and ride horses. Little does he know that he is going to have to put up with Andi for more than just a night or two while her car gets repaired.
The chemistry between Andi and Luke starts from the very beginning. Ginny (mom) plays a little match making and these two quickly find out that love can happen at first sight.
I absolutely can not wait until the next book comes out! Luke, Randy, Colt, Ginny and Andi are all so addicting and you will find yourself loving each and every one of them.
This book was great. The charachters are well developed. we meet a women traveling cross country when she runs in to some trouble. will she make it to her destination? will she find help? What will she find down the road? Will she find true love? will she find what she really needs?
This is such a cute and adorable book! Such a great romance novel with a great love story. I can't wait to read the next books in the series. I could not put this book down once I started reading it!
Andi Stevens is on her way from Seattle to New York to move with her fiance. She was sad she was leaving her sister, Carly behind. She raised her since her parents died when she was eighteen and carly was fourteen. She had put them both thru college. Andi was an artist. In the mountains of Montana her car broke down along a dark road and she had no cell service. She saw a light in the distance so she walked to the cabin and knocked. The home belonged to Luke Brennan. She was looking to use a phone so he took her up to the house to use his mom's phone. Andi's car needed a lot of work and while she waited Ginny Brennan invited her to stay with them. She couldn't get over how handsome Luke was and he thought she was beautiful but engaged to someone else. Dare he hope she might fall for him in a short time. Do you believe in love at first sight. Read this story and you might.
A wonderful novel, beautifully written. I'm usually more for the horror genre, but every now and then, I enjoy something more positive, more romantic, and Kiss A Cowboy has a vanilla flavor somewhere in between The Horse Whisperer and Denise Hunter. Because her car breaks down, the main character Andi must knock on a stranger's door, asking for help, and a Hot Cowboy opens. I greatly enjoyed the nature scenes, the lush descriptions, the horses, and the heartwrenching beginning of a very passionate love affair. And easy 5-star!
Loved this book. Andi leaves her home and her sister in Seattle to drive cross country to be with her fiancé in Buffalo. Before she arrived in the Montana town where she planned to spend the night, her car broke down in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone service. A small light leads her to a cabin and a grumpy cowboy who drives her to the main ranch house to call her auto club. She had no idea three weeks could turn her life around so completely.
I don't like sappy romance books, but since this one was given to me free for a road trip, I took a chance on it. After all, I love cowboys! Kiss A Cowboy, not so much.
The (thinly veiled) Plot
Andi Stevens is driving from Seattle, Washington cross country to meet up with her fiance Derek Hensley in Buffalo, New York when her old Ford Escape finally gives up the ghost in Montana. Derek is [in]patiently awaiting Andi's arrival so he can show her off to his new colleagues for the trophy she has allowed herself to become. Andi finds refuge at a nearby ranch and is told it will take a few weeks to get the parts to fix her car, which will give her time to fall for the cowboy. It takes a village, and one glance at a cowboy before Andi realizes Derek is not the man for her.
The Narrator
The narrator is HORRIBLE. Jennifer Groberg "reads" the story in one annoying voice that grated on my last nerve. Groberg's voice is better suited for children's books. My suggestion is to read over listening.
The Characters
The word idiot comes to mind too often to count. I'm sure one could easily describe Andi Stevens as naive, but I believe she's way past that stage at her advanced age; thus, idiot is appropriate. Luke Brennan, aka Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome, reads like a hot cowboy in looks only. His time on the ranch is few and far between in this story. Luke is a hair smarter than Andi, and that's not saying much. Luke's mother, Ginny, and his younger brother Colt are the perfect support characters to Luke and Andi and their attempt to keep their lips and hands off one another as they two-step around their feelings. Since Luke doesn't have time to work on the ranch and keep an eye on Andi, it's up to his childhood best friend Randy Olson to do the ranch work. Randi appears to be the smartest character in the book, along with Andi's younger sister Carly. If I had to pick a favorite, my money's on the Bree, an Australian Shepherd cattle dog.
The Bottom Line
The story is predictable, superficial, unbelievably inane, and filled with unflattering cliches about city and country folks that it is not worth rehashing anymore of this story in this review. I will say that I didn't like the story, nor did my riding companion, who is a romance enthusiast.
As soon as Andi knocked on Luke's door I was hooked! What became clear immediately is that the artist was in awe of the Montana scenery and the wonderful Brennan family and animals as family also! I immediately picked up the authors clues about Derek! He never said "I love you" and only talked about his needs not Andi's! Luke and her sister Carly tried to penetrate Andi's defenses to reveal how Derek treated her to no avail! Deanna Lynn Sletten abuses the reader from the beginning (just kidding... sort of..), as she tortures us with frustration as eveyone but Andi and Luke see the reality between the two protagonists: Love! Since I was deeply connected to every character ( two footed and four ...paws, hoofs etc.) I shed tears liberally as all but begged them to get over themselves! I loved everything about the Brennan family ranch and delightful interactions! Since you know in advance there is an HEA, I won't comment farther! I love this book, the author and was beautifully entertained by my hot cowboy and incredible cowgirl! I have already ordered book two about sweet Colt and look forward to hours of more fun in this delicious seies! Enjoy!!!!!
This book is so adorable and I loved the characters, the beautiful descriptions of the country side; people, animals and so on. It kept me reading because you just knew Andi and her Cowboy were just going to get together, just not when! It was the ending that kept me from giving it a 5 stars! There was so much more she could have done with the ending, in fact another whole chapter or two could have been written! I would love to tell you what I thought she could have done but that would put a spoiler alert on this. This book is funny, smart, sad, tearful and interesting. I like the storyline and style of the author. I would like to find more of her books.
This is one of the best chaste cowboy romances, I have read in a long time. The best part was when I finished reading the book, and found myself content & not feeling let down. This is a modern ranch, dealing with real issues. Enough people review these books to death. I am looking forward to the second book. At different parts of the book, things can get a bit shallow. I realized that those characters involved in those shallow parts, were actually very shallow themselves. Enjoy the read.
Andi is on the way to Buffalo, New York, when her car breaks down. She seeks help at a cabin close to the highway. There a handsome cowboy takes her to the main house to call for a tow. His mother, Ginny welcomes Andi to stay. Her car causes her to stay for 3 weeks. Meanwhile she takes pictures and sketches the ranch life, plus helps Ginny can ,preserve and cook. She starts to doubt her love for her fiance Derick, and the high city life. She's just a simple girl who loves nature and beauty and a good looking cowboy.
3 stars because I read this book from start to finish and there were a lot of elements I liked, slow burn, fresh start, found family, cowboys and ranch life, a bit of angst, and good tension.
But I didn’t love how morally off the whole story made me feel. I don’t know, whatever the FMC did just didn’t make me feel like her fiancé deserved to be portrayed as badly as he was. I guess it just wasn’t enough of a reason for her to act the way she did.
Oh my! This story of Andi and Luke is so amazing. Most artists paints with oils and water colors....Deanna Lynn Sletten literally paints with words! She mixes reality, fantasy, and imagery into one fantastic love story. At one point, as Andi and Luke were walking after a rain, I swear I could smell the fresh scent of pine Andi was describing.
I am hooked and am now off to purchase her next book!
It starts with Andi in her car driving to Buffalo to meet up with her fiancé Derek. Her car broke down, and she walked to the closest house. A cowboy named Luke took her up to the main house so she could call some place to fix her car. Her car was sent to a garage. It was going to take weeks to fix her car. So Lukes mother Ginny welcomed her to stay with her at the big house. That's how Andi and Luke became friends. I didn't like Derek. Read it if you like a good storyline & sweet romance.
Andi and Luke are perfect for each other. They are both older siblings and are accustomed to looking out for loved ones. I love the grandmother they developed. As I read I could see the pictures that Andi was taking. It makes me want to see Montana.
Bit drawn out, seemed like way too much information and no real action until the last 5% of the book. Likable characters although the h was a bit of a pushover even though the H thinks she's a strong woman. When she becomes unsure if her fiance solicits escorts for business and she can't decide if it's right or wrong, grow a backbone girl!
You fall in love with the characters, the dog, the horses, the ranch and Montana! The author has woven together an excellent story that is not too overly sentimental. It embraces the characters, their lives and feelings interwoven with beautiful scenery that created beautiful pics in my mind. Definitely worth the read!!
The book is good but some parts are a bit appalling. A woman is engaged, she breaks down near a ranch and she has to stay for a bit while the car is being fixed. The mother encourages her son and this woman to go in a 3 day trip. The son prefers not to because he feels it’s not appropriate.
I still liked the book but probably won’t read the rest of the series.
I have really enjoyed all of the books written by Deanna Lynn Sletten that I have read so far. This is book one in a series about the love between a city girl as a cowboy. The story wad cute but not as good as some of her others. Still I will read Series Two to revisit the characters in book one.
Wasn't sure what to expect from this book. I normally read urban fantasy, but gave this a try. Glad I did. It's well written and let's just say I fell in love with a cowboy. Will be looking to pick up the next in the series.
Andi left Seattle and was driving to Buffalo to meet up with her fiancee, she decided to take her time. When her car broke down in front of the Brennan ranch. Little did she know that they would change her life, especially Luke.
A very good read Lots of excitement with a very good support for mowing yourself and putting your own wants and needs first Refreshing not having all the dirty step by step details of some romance books Very sweet and romantic
