This is a story about a girl discovering and experiencing life for the first time. Bryn Schaefler grew up rich. Her parents expected the best out of her, picked her boyfriend for her, and groomed her to be the next trophy wife fresh out of High School. But when they discover she wants to pursue music instead of following in her mothers footsteps, they wanted to hear nothing about it. That was when Bryn left for good. By chance, she auditioned for main stream rock band Everlasting. Never in a million years did she think she would make it.
Cale Pelton knew it was his fault for the band scrambling around to find a new guitarist. Once he saw Bryn audition, he knew he had to have her. Not just in the band, but in his mind, body and soul.
This is the first book in the Straight from the Heart series. Follow Cale and Bryn as she goes on her first tour, and discovers there's so much more to her than she ever realized.
This book is wonderful, extraordinary and simply amazing, I love the story line and everything !!! But with pros there are always cons. My first con is Editing. Now even though this book only had a few parts that needed to be corrected with proper grammar i am still going to bag on this part because to be honest with you guys it bugs me I really dislike when people don't have proper grammar in a book. My second con is interestingness, ( Now although that is not a word I am hoping you guys will get what i mean after i explain). I have to say that this book did not have the best first chapters . I feel like it wasn't that intriguing I think the author should have put either more time into the beginning chapters or she should have incorporated something in the book to make it interesting/ alive.
Now with everything that i just said i don't want you guys to get the wrong impression that this book is bad. This book in fact has allot of redeeming qualities. I am just trying to say that this book needs a few things that it could use to make it more alive/ intriguing. Now my overall thought of this book is that even though it needs a few minor adjustment this book is a great read and i think everyone should give this book a chance.
I felt quite sorry for Bryn at the start, as she was being pressured into living a life she didn't want to live. I could understand why she didn't want to stay at home any longer.
There was a few times where I felt quite bored while reading this, But it wasn't all that bad thankfully.
This ended on a cliffhanger, which was quite annoying. Want to see what happens in book two now!
Overall, Alright read, but ended on a cliffhanger!
This is the first time I read from this Author. This story was a good read. It's about Bryn a 18 year old girl that was raised to be a Trophy Wife, but that is so Not her. She has a Love of music and can kill it on the guitar. She leaves home after she graduates. Taking her guitar and a suitcase of personal items. Cale is the Lead Singer for Everlasting. He knows it's his fault that he needs to find a new guitar player. Bryn auditions for the spot never thinking she is good enough for the spot, but to her surprise she gets the call and is in a whirlwind of touring with the guys. This is an experiment she is up for the challenge, living on a tour bus with all males and a whole lot of groupies. She has so many mixed feelings for Cale then a new Rocker Damon for another Band on the tour. They have alot of twist and turns you are kept on your toes. There is some shockers, attacker's on some.of the band memebers, life changing and to find out the attacker is a close person to Bryn. I will Warn this book has a Hugh Cliffhanger and I need to known what happens. Book 2 where are you.
I found this free on smashwords so I decided to give it a try and I really enjoyed this book. The only downside of this book for me is the open/cliffhanger ending. Can't wait for the next book. :)
First let me start off by saying that this book leaves you HANGING at the end. Like right in the middle of something good hanging. I literally just finished the book and I’m sitting here searching for book 2 just to see what the hell happened! I mean COME ON! Don’t leave us hanging like that. Sure its a great way to make sure people buy the second book, but at least have the second book published and ready to go. AH!
This book was pretty good. I actually enjoyed the twists and turns throughout it, but it was pretty obvious that something was going to end up happening. Something bad from the very beginning. But the gist of this one is; rich girl gets tired of living under moms and dads thumb, moves out at 18, auditions for a part in a band, makes said band, tours with said band, meets sexy singer for another said band, dates him AFTER he tries to rape her (this is a wtf moment for me) then ends up dating lead singer in her said band. Then a lot of drama, shooting, other band members land in the hospital and shot in the chest. You get the idea. Full of Rock and Roll. And for those readers who have NO clue about rock and roll? its time to do your homework. ;) But no really this was a good read. Something a littler heavier than some, but still good. Lots of kissing scenes, which come on ladies, is why we read these books! And speaking of kissing, Clae? is to DIE for. I mean total hottie singer? Yeah count me in on that band wagon. Bryn tended to get on my nerves in certain parts. Like who the heck decides to be alone with a guy that tried to rape you? And who the hell writes off an attack like that as “I over reacted. He’s actually a good guy.” Good guy Bryn? Really? That makes for a good guy? And what about when he is getting felt up by 2 other girls in the dressing room? Still a good guy though. Ah! But you chose Clae so that makes it all ok!
This book was a wonderful story of a girl finding her way and doing life on her own terms. Tired of following what her parents think she should do, she takes off to follow her dreams. What follows is a fast-paced whirlwind adventure that is fun to read. The only reason I marked it as a 4 star read is that it is a cliffhanger. I do want to read the sequel, I have to know what happens. I'm rooting for Bryn!!!
I received a free copy for an honest and fair review.
Growing up was hard when your parents controlled everything you do. Bryn was getting tired of it and her older brother Brayden had already left without any communication to the family 2 years ago.
Bryn, 18 yrs. old, with controlling rich parents who have told her what to do her whole life. What she wears, who she dates, and where she goes to college. Not one decision is her own. Her love is music and playing the guitar. So one day she has had enough and tells her parents she is leaving. Of course she has no idea where she is going. She makes her way into town and finds a job and place to stay with a family, that owns the local Italian restaurant. The very day she leaves there is an audition for a guitar player for a band in town. Not really knowing what her experience is, since its never explained, she goes to the audition and gets the job. Cale is the lead singer along with the rest of the band Raptor, Vince and Luke. With few chances to practice she is ready to start a major tour with the band. Doesn't sound plausible to me considering other books I have read where they practice for months with a new member before starting something major.
The tour starts and of course there is an attraction between Bryn and Cale but he doesn't want to start anything because it may complicate the band dynamics. So being the guy that he is he takes advantage of his "Rock Star" status and starts bringing girls back to the tour bus. Of course the first time he does this he, supposedly to drunk to realize, takes the girl back to Byrn's bed to have sex. Byrn doesn't know what she wants, she's flirting with the lead singer Damon of Ignite the Flames, who is also on the tour with them. One night she makes out with him, although she is still a virgin when she leaves his bus. After finding Damon in a compromising position she decides she is through with him. Almost immediately she hooks up with Cale. No dates, just the band hanging out and they tell each other the I Love You's!
Good news for the band. They get signed to a contract and are finally hoping to make it big. Then out of the blue danger strikes and one of the band members is injured and needs replaced. Next thing you know in steps Tyler, a former band member kicked at for undisclosed reasons. Guess what? Bryn gets tingles in her girlie parts and thinks she needs to watch herself around him. Really??? Make up your mind who you want!!!!
The big tour is ready to start. As they head down the road there is sabotage in the making. Finally reaching their destination they are ready for the first gig as the headliner. Before it is time for them to head on stage a gun shot is heard and someone has been shot. As some of the band runs to find out whats going on Tyler has the shooter in his grasp. So hang on and see where this author takes you next!
Straight From The Heart is a story about Bryn and Cale. Bryn left her home at the age of 18 with nowhere to go. She was hungry so she goes to Lozano's and that's where she gets a job and a place to stay. She auditions for a band called Everlasting and that's where she meets Cale. Her life is about to change for the better. I felt sad/sorry for Bryn in the beginning of this story but as it progressed and how she followed what she loved, wow. This story is about following your dreams, listen to her heart, follow your gut. If you like to read about that with a touch of love, music, band mates then give this book a try. There are twists and turns that keep you guessing and wanting to read more.
Ok, so where do I even begin! Straight from the Heart by Breigh Forstner is book one in this series. It's the first book I've read by Breigh and it wont be the last! I've read this book in 5 hours!! It was really good. The first sentence drew me in. I didn't want it to end. The writing style was good too. I loved the story-line and characters (all of them). The only thing that I didn't care for is the ending. The ending ends with a cliffhanger and me personally I don't like cliffhangers. However, I'm looking forward to continue reading this series.
Parts of the story I liked:
"Every day of my life, you have told me what I can and cannot do. Who I can be friends with, who I can date. Hell, you signed me up for the most prestigious colleges in the United States without me knowing! I am DONE being a puppet and a show girl you can parade around saying,'Look at my sophisticated daughter."
"Oh my, oh my, I think you are smitten, darling."
"It sounds completely silly, but when our voices sang together, it was like electricity. We fit like a glove. Peanut butter and jelly, so to speak."
I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Bryn has just turned eighteen and having been stifled by her rich parents to comform to their snobbery, she takes the biggest decision in her life so far. At this point she just wants to follow her dreams. She finds work, accommodation and at the same time a chance of a lifetime. An audition with Everlasting, a rock group on its way to fame.
Cale is the lead singer of Everlasting. He takes a liking to her at first sight and her audition is good enough to seal the deal. She joins the group and here begins her adventure on the road. It's fun watching her interactions with the band, she is treated like a sister, except for Cale who tries to contain his real feelings. This is so frustrating! Bryn on the other end makes the most of her freedom and makes some wrong decisions along the way. She is now independent and experiencing real life but she is immature in certain areas. This, quite likely reflects her upbringing. As for the group, it's getting better and better and Bryn is thriving with this new experience despite all the hard work.
Then comes the drama on the night, one of the group members is attacked. The group is now under threat of being in danger. When the culprit is found, the reasons for going after the group don't really make sense and the cliffhanger really piques curiosity.
I like the fact that Bryn is a Rock Chick as one of the main characters. The rock books I have read so far have the Alpha males as the group lead and this concept is a welcome change. I also like the interactions between the different groups. No rivalry as such. Just healthy competition.
Overall, I really enjoyed this novel and I look forward to reading the next instalment to find out if/how the romance between Bryn and Cale progresses. Not to forget the reasons behind the mysteries. I would recommend this novel to romance lovers who like to go on the rollercoaster of being in a rock group.
Straight from the Heart by Breigh Forstner ⭐⭐⭐ Uh. Well I don't have much to say, I didn't connect with the main character at all. I think the author will do much better on her next novel, if she doesn't try to fit so much drama, and side characters to try to relate to. I don't mind indecisive characters, but Bryn was all over the place. When Bryn finally decided on a guy, she still did really shady things, and think thoughts that didn't seem to go with her spoken words. When there is "mystery" or secrets in novels, I tend to think the whole time about what the outcome will be, it's my favorite thing about reading, besides the emotions it invokes, but I tended not to care what happened, or what they are hiding. I did like the fact, that with the side exgirlfriend, she didn't write her sterotypically, like by having it out for the main heroine. Breigh Forstner was really original in that, and I really like it. Women are often pigeonholed in novels, and Breigh broke the mold in that aspect. The book ended on a cliffhanger, but I'm really on the fence with the decision to continue this series. I loved the premise of the girl joining a rock band, but the book went in a direction I really couldn't relate with or follow.
Straight from the Heart by Breigh Frostner is about following your dreams and your heart. Bryn Schaefler decides it is time to stand up to her parents, who have controlled everything in her life including which school to go to, boyfriends and even friends and especially money. Bryn leaves the comforts of home only to find herself with no money and no place to stay. Louisa, who owns Italian restaurant that Bryn loves to go and eat at, offers her a job and a place to stay. She also encourages Bryn to audition for a band and Bryn gets the job. She is able to tour with the band and after some time of being on the road she finds that the guys in the band are more her family than her real family ever was. Cale is the lead singer in the band and shows Bryn the world of what being a rock star is all about. Cale confesses his feelings to Bryn and they begin to start to date. But just when things seem to be at there highest for the couple and the band, someone from Bryn's past is trying to sabotage the band members by causing harm. This book does end in a cliff hanger. I would recommend this book especially is you like hot rock n roll band guys!
Straight from the Heart is an amazing story with tons of heart from Breigh Forstner. I'll admit at the beginning I was doubtful. It seemed a bit slow, but wow. Once I sat down with this book, I was drawn in and really enjoyed the story that Breigh shares in Straight from the Heart. The dynamic between the characters was my favorite part and I loved seeing how the bandmates and Bryn grew and developed. I feel like there's so much more to their stories, especially Bryn. In the beginning, I was doubtful of her. But by the time I finished this one, she had grown on me and I was really rooting for her.
Speaking of finishing this book, I have one complaint. It isn't with the author or story. It's the cliffhanger! It was brutal. I need to know more! I'm really excited about following the rest of Bryn's story and reading more from Breigh Forstner. Already her writing shows so much promise. I thoroughly enjoyed Straight from the Heart and I just know that other contemporary romance fans will love it, too!
**I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review with no compensation.
OK, I’ll admit when I was given this book to review I had absolutely no idea what it was about, so I judged a book by it’s cover. I mean it looks interesting! But I am so glad I read it!
Bryn has led a sheltered life – her rich parents want everything to be perfect for appearance sake, including Bryn. But enough is enough! When Bryn leaves home and joins the band “Everlasting” she becomes the complete rocker chick and who she really is. With her old family seemingly forgotten she embarks on a new adventure with her new family – Raptor, Vince, Luke and Cale.
As she tries to navigate the rock and roll world and explore everything it has to offer, Bryn opens herself up to new experiences – sex, alcohol , a record deal and love. But just when she seems to be in grasp of the life she’d always wanted, old demons come back to haunt her.
Be aware… it took me 15 minutes to recover from the cliff hanger ending and had me desperately searching for book 2!
I can’t wait to read more of Bryn’s story and look forward to where Breigh takes us next
I like the basic storyline with "Straight From The Heart", but there were so many inconsistencies that I doubt the author took the time to do any research. Some of the happenings were just not believable. I feel if Breigh would take some time and go back through this book with a finetooth comb, fix up the issues that are nor realistic it would be the awesome book I had hoped for.
I hate writing this review because I rarely find it necessary. Alternately I could simply not write one.. I really liked the main outline for Bryn and Cale. Rich girl with a crappy set of parents, raised to be a trophy wife decides to strike out on her own once she has turned 18. Good for her.. I would be way happier if she had paid a few dues before she auditioned for the band. Working to pay her own way and actually studying to play the guitar and sing would have made it so much more believable. That's the story I really want to read.. :)
What a great story!!! I loved everything about it - the characters were so believable I could not put this down. Bryn Schaefler does not want the life her parents have or want for her. She loves music and is a very talented guitarist who leaves home to find her way. Bryn auditions for the up and coming band Everlasting, never thinking she will make it, but she does. She then heads out on tour with them. The bandmates are great to her, but it's the connection she has with the lead singer Cale that is so beautiful. This is a story about trusting your heart and following it in all the directions it takes you. I am dying for the next part of the story, since there was a cliffhanger and I need to know more now.
I think this book was a feel good book where you do not see the twist coming. Bryn is this sheltered girl that wants to get out of the parent bubble and she is able to do so when she joins Everlasting, an up and coming Indie band and working hard for a mainstream record producing company. Bryn has a lot to learn and as she discovers not only her limits but her womanhood in the process, she starts stacking priorities and realizing that family is not defined by blood but by soul. I loved every single moment of this book and I could not believe my eyes with that last chapter. That was crazy! Ugh, I want more! I cannot wait to dig into the second book but for now I leave you with this. You have got to buy this gem!
This book is the story of a young adult (Bryn) as she starts her adultshood, claims her freedom, and embark on a journey by joining a band to fulfill her dreams and for the love of music. It also depicts the life of a musician on the road, all the hardships and excitement of performing, adding their experiences and found love. I like the plot but the story keeps me on a hang. I felt that it was cut prematurely.
I instantly fell in love with the characters. They were sweet and funny and immediately hooked me. The story kept me guessing... And wanting to continue reading. I can not wait to read the next book!
It's not what I expected but it was a nice read. Though the smut is toned down a notch. I was like if you can say 'd*ck', 'shaft', and all that why not go all the way to descriptions? Lol.
A promising story that fell short due to inconsistencies and underdeveloped characters and relationships. I wanted to love it like the seemingly numerous other readers have but this one just didn't work for me.
I loved Cale and Bryn. There was so much chemistry from the beginning. Overall, I enjoyed all the characters, but then was left with a cliffhanger... now the waiting begins...
It was a really great book up until the last few pages. After that, it got intense. Without warning. I was like 'What the hell is happening'. It didn't even make sense!!!
This is the second book in the Straight from the Heart series and this time we learn more about Cale and Bryn. We also get more information about their budding relationship, However how are keeping secrets from one another. Cale has demons he doesn't want Bryn to find out and Bryn has things from her past that make her kind of closed off to relationships. Both love their band and really deep down they love each other however until they both open up about things they will always be too afraid to really show that love to each other. This book also takes up deeper into some troubling things. This book is suspenseful, romantic and just really good. Can't wait to read whats to come next. great book.
First ever reading a book like this. I enjoyed the story and how Cale and Bryn became an item. Now I want to know what happened, one last shot and that was it.
On the other hand editing issues through out the book.
If anyone I knew who liked books like this, I would suggest this book.

So this is a tricky review for me to write really. I so want to big up this book, it has the makings of a great story for me, as soon as I read the synopsis, I was like ” I have to read this book”! My thoughts and feelings on it though are just so torn. Here is a quick overview of the story to begin. Bryn Schaefler feels like her home life is a prison. she is miserable. Degraded at all opportunities, even beaten if she dared to defy her parents. She was treated like a show toy around people and behind closed doors was shown no love. There is a big confrontation, when at 18, Bryn decides she is leaving home to pursue a career in music. A slap to the face from her mum seals the deal, and off she goes. Bryn finds refuge with the Lozano family who offer her a job and a place to stay. Lou Lozano, who has been more like a mum to Bryn than her own, gives her a flyer for auditions being held for a replacement band member. She has to pluck up a lot of courage, but eventually Bryn goes along and auditions. She is totally shocked when later that evening she receives a call to say they want her in the band and she is to meet with the lead singer the next day to get the what’s what and plan rehearsals ahead on going on tour. Cale, the lead singer from Everlasting is your typical sexy guy in a band, who can have whatever lady he wants. He is a take what he wants sort of guy and doesn’t usually hold back. There is an instant connection between Bryn and Cale. They want each other. Pure and simple. Bryn wont allow it though. She doesn’t want to mess up her opportunity to be in the band or make things awkward on the tour. So after loads of rehearsing, where things are changed up and Bryn is going to be singing alongide Cale, the band are off on tour. How long though can Bryn fight her attraction towards Cale before she gives in? And what dramas could arise along the way whilst touring? Hmmmmm……quite a few actually!! So as I said above, I am torn about this book. It seemed like my kind of story. Great storyline, it just fell a little flat with a lack of detail and emotion. It seemed quite monotone, maybe writing from a male and female point of view would of helped that, instead of the story just being from the female point of view like Straight from the Heart was. I couldn’t seem to connect with the characters much in this story, again that could just be from a lack of detail, it just didn’t flow easily for me. Like I said the plot had some good storylines, but they seemed rushed. Lacking. Breigh Forstner had some great ideas for this book, if she had input a bit more emotion and was more thorough with details, had made it a longer story, this so would of been a hit book with me. Something about this book has got to me though, because, pre-warning here, this book ends on a cliffhanger, and I am sure feeling like I want to purchase book #2 to continue on and see what happens with the continuation of Bryn and Cale’s story. I have gone with 3 stars, or in my blogs case, 3 sweets instead of 2, as I can see the potential this story has, and just because I found it a little lacking, doesn’t mean that you will all agree. This is one that you will need to check out and decide for yourself.
This is the first book I have read by the author and I thoroughly enjoy the story, the characters and the authors writing style. I got in to the story very quickly and by the time I'd finished the book I still wanted more. I really enjoyed that the story was all about following your dreams and never giving up, which i found very inspirational. After reading this story I felt happy and that i could achieve anything I wanted. The chemistry between the 2 main characters were very believable. Cale and Bryn had chemistry that was sizzling hot right from the start. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the couples story and watching them on their journey through all the twists, turns and unpredictability of the story. Bryn doesn't want the life her wealthy parents want for her. Her parents are extremely controlling. They were always trying to turn her in to somebody she wasn't. She feels suffocated and wants to live her own life and follow her own passions in life. Music is her dream and is amusing playing guitar. After being fed up with her parents controlling ways, Bryn up and leaves with no money or place to live. Luckily for her she meets louisa who doesn't only offer her a job and a placed to stay, she persuaded Bryn to go to the audition with a great band, where she gets the job, goes on tour and meets Cale the lead singer in Everlasting. Bryn feels like she finally has a family now she's in the band and I can understand her feeling like that after her real family are not supportive or nice, especially about her ambition and dreams. I understood her hesitance towards starting something with her band mates because she she doesn't want to lose her dream and her new family. The other reason is Cale is abit of a man whore and she doesn't want part of that, especially as Bryn isn't just having feelings for Bryn but also for the lead singer of another bands lead singer, Damon. Damon quickly ruins Bryns trust and feelings she has for him and it pushes her in to Cales arms. After her and Cale start a very complicated no strings attached relationship the story takes a lot of twists and turns. Not everything is what it seems and there are some very unpredictable scenes that are shocking, full of sabotage, life changing and lead us to a big cliffhanger. The book was enjoyable and I liked it wasn't predictable, but the book did have a few issues unfortunately. I had a feeling through parts of the story that the the book was missing something. I'm not sure what it was missing, but it just felt incomplete. There was also a few grammar issues throughout that did spoil the story. However over all I enjoyed the book and I'm looking forward to the next book and finding out what happens after the life hanger. I'm glad the author encouraged Bryn to follow her dreams and not let anyone ever stop her.I felt that was a strong message for readers and one I'll take on board as anything is and can be possible if you believe. 4 Stars Sent from my iPad

Characters: I did not like Bryn at all. She was an idiot throughout the novel. She went for boys she shouldn’t have, she forgave Ethan even when she shouldn’t have, she got mad for no reason. I didn’t like her. Also, she magically got everything. Things would magically set themselves up for her. I hate characters like that. She left her parents and went to the restaurant, Louisa from Lozanos magically had a loft for Bryn to stay in, Louisa just happened to mention a band audition that happened that day. It just made me mad that Bryn didn’t have to work for anything. Everything was handed down to her on a silver platter. She was a Perfect Polly. I despise her character.
The boys of Everlasting, Cale, Luke, Vince and Raptor, were fine. They weren’t really memorable though. Cale was kind of funny sometimes. I always got Vince and Raptor mixed up. And Luke was just there sometimes. I didn’t really develop feelings for any of them. They were kind of boring.
I liked Lucy a lot. She was probably my favorite character. She was funny, and I liked her outfits. But I didn’t really get to know a lot about her personality. Damon was funny too. He was always with a lady. I can’t believe Bryn liked him though. He’s a womanizer.
Brayden was confusing as crap. At first, I didn’t really understand his role in the story. Then, at the end, I was like what is going on. He came out of nowhere and BAM! I was so confused.
All of the characters were sort of just there. They didn’t really have personalities or defining characteristics.
Plot: The plot didn’t make sense at some points. Bryn would be doing something, and then she’d be doing something totally different. I had to go back at multiple times to re-read a section, and it didn’t mention her moving onto the new activity at all. It bounced around a lot.
Also, as I mentioned in Bryn’s character section, things would magically work out for her. It wasn’t really believable since events would just set up magically. Things don’t happen like that in real life. I’d understand if this was a categorized as a fantasy novel, but it’s contemporary romance which in my understanding is based on real life.
Overall: I didn’t really like this book. When I started it, I read about twenty pages of it, and I debated whether or not to finish it of just mark it as a DNF. I decided to finish it till the end, and I probably could’ve gone without reading it. I didn’t have a favorite part. That was kind of shocking because I normally always have a favorite part, but I didn’t. Also, I didn’t feel anything while reading this book. It didn’t make me sad, happy, or anxious. I didn’t really care what happened.

Simple and enjoyable love story about an 18yr old girl finding her way through life by following her dream and finding love unexpectedly.
Brynn was young and innocent who grew up rich and sheltered. With the help of her ex-boyfriend Ethan she found her love for music, but with controlling parents, she couldn’t go any further on following her dream. Until one day she found her strength to finally leave her parents. She knew she couldn’t take the life they were dishing out, if it meant not living life the way she wanted. So she left to follow her dream.
After auditioning to be part of rock band, she was chosen and became part of a new family. It didn’t take long for her to get along with the guys, they became her family. The guys loved her and she loved them like her brothers, except for Cale. Both she and Cale felt something else for each other, they knew they had a connection. Thinking of the band, they knew they couldn’t be together, they tried to stay clear of their feelings for each other. They tried seeing others, but neither one could stop how they felt. It didn’t take long for them to finally give in to their feelings. They kept it a secret at first, because they didn’t want the band to get upset..that didn’t last long.
What they found out was, when they are together they were better versions of themselves. They can share things with each other that they wouldn’t with anyone else. The more they spent time together and got to know each other, the more they realized how much they belonged together. So they explored what they had and they were great together. They live the life of music and love and nothing can be better than that.. Until their world crashing down when someone started hurting their bandmates one by one.
Keep in mind that this book ends with a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to read what’s next book. I enjoyed reading about an innocent 18yr coming out of her shell and finding the guy she was meant to be with. There were times when Brynn needed a smack for thinking about other guys, when her boyfriend Cale is just around the corner…but most of the time she was a pretty cool chick finding her way of life. Trying to live life the best she could.
I'm on the fence about Straight From the Heart. On one hand it was a quick, easy read, but on the other there was just something missing and didn't feel quite right.
I liked the overall concept of Bryn joining a rock band and breaking away from the rich kid lifestyle and her parents. I found it great that she had ambition and wasn't afraid to go for what she wanted. I was shocked by her parents' actions to begin with and admired her for having the courage to realise she didn't have to put up with it.
As well as this, I also liked the underlying tension between Cale and Bryn. Their relationship built nicely, even if it was a bit tame for me. I liked Cale, and he was a character I found easier to feel for; he seemed like an all right guy most of the time. However, saying that there were a few things that either irritated me or had me rolling my eyes. First of all despite Bryn breaking away from her parents, not once did she have to struggle for anything. She was still handed everything on a plate and got what she wanted way too easily. I mean the day she leaves she gets a job, an apartment, and a place in the band! I wish I had that kind of luck. To me it felt unrealistic and the author could have made more of her struggles as for me that's the most interesting parts of books like this.
Similarly, I never really warmed up to Bryn. She wasn't an easy character to like and I found her to be a little annoying. She went from one guy to the next and was always thinking about a different guy to the one she was with. I will say I liked that she had a relationship with Lucy, but with the guys I thought she came across as a tease and not very loyal. I think this is the main reason that has caused me to feel there wasn't something quite right as the book is written from her POV.
The only other thing I wasn't so keen on was the random mystery slotted in at the end. It just didn't work for me and the character who was behind everything's motives didn't seem to warrant the lengths they went to. It all seemed a bit rushed and random. How Bryn jumped straight to who it was with no clue is beyond me and then there's this huge cliff hanger! It seemed like the author was trying to fit too much it to such little space and it didn't work for me.
Overall I'm still on the fence about this book. I'm not sure whether I'll read the next one, but it may internet those looking for a tame, easy read.
