"rather than doing all the work themselves, good managers create the systems and conditions that enable others to perform those tasks"
"As a new manager, remember that management means getting things done through other people. You can’t do it all yourself. As a manager, your job is to create the environment and conditions that engage other people in goal accomplishment" (Management Text by Daft)
Pretty good as far as textbooks go. As someone who has spent a great deal of time devouring management and leadership books this text didn’t teach me anything new, but I liked the way the information was presented.
Another book I read for my IS major. MGMT courses are infamously seen as incredibly easy (and depending on your teacher it is), but easy courses don't always have the easiest to read books. This book was a good blend of modern and past business theories that are very relevant to management styles in the real world. I was surprised that there was mention of company strategies like Netflix, Amazon, etc. I'm glad this book was in touch with reality, and not one of those business books from the '80s that are slapped with a "new edition" sticker in order to hike up the price. Very useful and relevant.
It's a good intro to management textbook, essentially a survey of management practices. I particularly liked the "know this" boxes which pulled out the stuff you really need to know. It made reviewing for class easy.
A comperhisive coverage of wide range of management ideas. The book also gives links to further reading. One of the best for MBA students and new managers.
