Sterek Where Stiles is a librarian who is in charge of the kids' reading hour and such. And Derek is 6-year-old Scott's adoptive dad. And Stiles has his own take on Stories and Scott loves wolves and Derek tries not to admit that he likes the way Stiles's face looks in those glasses. Or something like that. Words:125430 complete
1. Stare at the ceiling. 2. Stare at your polka dot sheets. 3. Read Sterek fanfic.
These days I go with #3. In case that's escaped anyone's notice. The problem with reading a long fic in the middle of the night is that I was in that half awake state where I couldn't sleep, but my brain wasn't actually functioning -- this makes retaining info difficult. So I'm not really sure why I liked this one. Pretty sure it has something to do with Stiles as a glasses-wearing librarian:
Uh...because you're fucking adorable?
Also, Derek's still a werewolf. So is his 6-yr old son, Scott. Yeah, that Scott.
But Stiles doesn't know Derek is a werewolf. In fact he kind of freaks out when Derek finally confesses.
Don't worry, Sterek fans, it all works out in the end.
Btw, this one's from Derek's POV, which isn't my favorite [Back in September it wasn't my favorite--but now I love it...when it's done well]. But fuck it, we still get plenty of this:
Alright, I know when to admit defeat. I give up. I have been trying for days to find the best pictures and the best words to show my love for this book. Whatever. I just can’t. So, you get some kind of fitting pictures.
So, just know that I enjoyed every page. It was like reading two books, one inside of another. I am in awe of the author’s ability to re-create Fairy Tales and to write their own. IN ABSOLUTE AWE.
I know that this book was long and I know that they weren’t exactly in character but I have no complaints about any of that. It was just so pretty.
Oh, and there was Scott, a Scott I totally adored.
REALLY enjoyed this one. The only things that kept this from being a 5 star read from me was I felt the fairy tales, while very good, kept dragging me out of the real story, so I found myself skimming them, and there were a few plot details that I would have liked to have seen given more detail.
This story was quite non-canon. The only real similarities to the show are, Derek is a wolf, Stiles' mom died when he was a kid, and Kate's still a crazy bitch.
I would have liked to know HOW Kate and I wanted Stiles to be more aware of Scott's change, his difficulties. I kept waiting to see him there on a full moon, comforting Scott while he struggled, but that never happened.
I adore fairy tales and all, but sometimes this didn't quite seem to hold my attention. Overall, it's still a nice and sweet read. Plus, little Scotty is such a cutie pie.
This started out strong and the fairy tales are lovely but I just lost interest in the story, to the point where I really didn't care what way it went. I skimmed smexy time which is like bad for me. Really, really bad.
Lots of potential here but it just didn't work for me.
WoW! I have no words. This is one of the best fics Ive ever read. The fairytales were just beautifully written. I love how the author manages to incorporate the fairytales into the story and made it even more special. This was just a heartwarming & captivating read. Im just very thankful that i got to read this. 5 stars is not enough
I really enjoyed this. Told from Derek's pov, set in an au, but it was great. Stiles is a librarian who tells lots of stories, particularly wolf based ones. Some were completely made up by the author & others well known ones twisted to fit the fic. They are quite plentiful, however I didn't find it tedious reading a story within a story, and this surprised me. I definitely need to check out more by this author.
I really enjoy trilliath's writing. There is an intensity to the storytelling that is utterly captivating (s)he has a way with writing that captures that magnetic force of attraction which i find utterly compelling.
4.5 Stars!! Ahh, this was so close to being a five star. I really loved it. But you know how the ending of a book can change everything? Well this one did that.
Loved the fairy tales and folk tales. Absolutely adored the Sterek with little Scott. Yes, sometimes the stories got a little in the way of the plot flow but the part that threw me was the reveal to Stiles and his reaction to the big secret. It was all a bit high handed and Stiles' overreaction just made me hostile. It was just so out of character and felt wrong. This was resolved by the end, thankfully. I just thought it was all a bit more harsh than it needed to be.
The end was suitably adorable but I wish it HAD ended with the traditional mating ceremony and not a retelling of one of the fairy tales. Now THAT would have been the perfect ending.
It's a book of fairy tales with Sterek woven in. It probably should've been the other way around but it's okay. I love fairy tales and I was just as invested in them as I was in Sterek.
Oh, and Stiles is a librarian with glasses. Look how cute he is.
I won't lie, this story was definitely a slow burn (like, glacially slow) but I still enjoyed the heck out of it.
For me, the only real drawback to this fanfiction was the fairy tales alluded to in the book's title; they were interesting and well-written and I know a lot of people will love this book solely for the amazing fairy tales that it contains, but I found that they intruded on the heart of the story - the growing relationship between Stiles and Derek (and between Stiles and Scott). I was sweetly enamored by the first few - the few that were interspersed with the character's reactions to the story and its telling - but after that, the stories got longer and more involved and our main characters started to fade into the background.
They started to fade into the background of their own fanfiction.
*frowns*
It's rare that I skim a book, but I found myself paging through the rest of the stories at warp speed, only scanning for mentions of the byplay between my beloved characters.
But around the 57% mark, the fairy tales start to taper off and the romance and the story's actual plot start to take centre stage again. And that's when they became a 5 star read for me. In fact, I felt the emotions in the second half of this book so intensely, I may have shed a tear or two. There was romance and laughter and levels of adorableness Disney only wishes it could bottle. Then there was the tough stuff and the heartbreak. I really appreciated how present Stiles was for Derek during the issues.
Oh, and Scott totally rocked my socks the whole way through this book. With the exception of DILF by Twentysomething, I don't think there has ever been a more endearing child-Scott. <3
Pretty nice little romantic story but the writing was overly romantic in its descriptions etc for my taste. I also didn't feel that Stiles & Derek were anything like "Stiles and Derek" really should be as characters, so this could have been any two people in the story instead. It was nicely written and I liked the characters as they were created, but it didn't have enough info if this wasn't a TW FF (lots of stuff that you would need to understand that wasn't explained), at the same time it didn't feel enough like TW FF for me to connect this properly with Sterek.
Too long, too self-indulgent, but pretty good. And I liked that the stories felt like real international folk-tales, not just Cinderella over and over again.
Gosh, this is powerful - lots of emotions and sadness. The fairytales add an extra layer. Derek's pov is strong and 6 yr old Scott's grief-strickened life is laid bare.
Scott read more like a 4 or 5 year old to me but with the horrors from his young life I guess it's understandable (fine he is 6 in this story but seemed younger).
I liked this story and allowed some tears to creep down my wrinkles several times. Also I laughed a bit too (but not out loud) or what would the neighbour's think?
I did enjoy the ending but wonder if there will be more to this story at some point?
I also enjoyed most all of the story fables Stiles shares with us in the book too.
I really enjoyed this. The stories within the story were great, Derek and Scott - sweet without being cloying. Stiles is adorable. The gangs all there, but cleverly done, and mixed up a bit. Then, about 75% there is a bolt of totally unnecessary angst that made me sad and cross, and I know that it was supposed to, but...
For me, overall really good, but I could have done without the last angsty bit.
I really loved this one because Stiles actually shares both with the other characters and the readers some beautiful fairy tales about wolves. A few are made up, but some are real stories from different countries (or inspired by real ones). It's a fanfic you can cuddle with on a cold winter night :)
I am not a big fan of fairy tales, but it worked in this story (I do have to admit to skimming through some of the sections of fairy tales, though). Slow build, just enough angst to nearly break your heart, and a HEA.
The fairy tales were amazing. Can't really imagine the hard work that was put into it, some were made from scratch, others adaptated. Kudos to the writer! And I am not even mentioning how well done the relationship of Scott, Derek and Stiles was so well done. I loved this story, eve though I'd change some aspects, that's why I'm 4 stars out of 5.
So, if you're a Sterek fan and adore fairytales then this one will really appeal. Warning: it is long. That's because it includes retellings of favorite fairytales and new ones. All those wolf stories rewoven and a few tucked in, too.
Cute with Derek as Scott's dad, which I thought would be weird, but actually worked and I'm still not exactly sure why other than Scott's character is immature.
