I love a good romantic suspense and Shadows in the Curtain was great--really creepy! I made the mistake of reading it at night while my husband was out of town and I was a little scared. I definitely didn't want to look out of the window and tripled checked the locks.
Emmy is such a sweet woman. She is very loyal to those she loves and is dedicated to her work. She is a very talented actress, but instead of focusing on fame and fortune, she seeks love and happiness. Emmy really has her priorities in line. I enjoyed the friendship she had with her neighbors, especially Kelton.
Josh is a mystery--is he the stalker/murderer or is he a friend? Sparks really fly between Emmy and the new firefighter, which makes it harder for Emmy to stay away.
I loved the suspense and mystery, because like I said before, it was really creepy. I thought it was well-done in a way to keep the reader engaged and invested in the story. The romance was sizzling, but clean, and for me (a clean romance lover), that kept me flipping the pages. The characters were well written and the mystery kept me guessing. I loved the setting--I love the ocean and would love to have a house in a place like this one (small town Oregon)!
Content: no language; there are some murders and attempted murders, so there is some shooting, stabbing, and blood. I thought it was described in ways that weren't graphic, but the reader still gets the idea of what's going on; kissing that stayed clean. I would consider this clean for an older reader!

March 2017 - 2nd time around and it is still super cute! *dreamy sigh*
April 2016 - 4.5 Stars
Emmy is extremely happy with her life. She is married to her best friend, has the perfect house on the beach and a successful career headlining at the local theater. Of course any successful actress has admirers and sometimes a stalker. When Emmy starts receiving threatening notes, her happy life starts to crumble. Tragedy strikes when the stalker kills her husband. Emmy has a hard time moving forward. She no longer feels safe and has no clue who she can trust.
Josh is in need of a fresh start. When an opportunity arises to transfer to a small town fire station in Oregon, he jumps at the opportunity. This is exactly what he needs to put his life back together. When he first lays eyes on Emmy, he is hooked. But being burned in past relationships has him hesitant to move forward with getting to know her. When he finds out that she's married, he tries his best to stay away and forget her. The moment he hears of the murder of Emmy's husband, he is determined to help find out who is responsible so that Emmy can move on with her life and feel safe again.
Emmy and Josh's connection is extremely strong. No matter how hard they try to stay away from each other, they just can't. Small towns make it hard to avoid anyone. Emmy finally decides to let her guard down and try to move forward with her life. But the closer she gets to Josh, the more danger they both are in. Can they figure out who the stalker is before it's too late? Or will Emmy lose another chance at love and happiness?
So picture this. You're sitting in your room at night reading a murder mystery book. It's quiet and dark. You are completely lost in the book... reading an intense scene... the heroine screams... at the same time the neighbor kids next door start pounding on the wall that separates your apartment from theirs... and. You. Jump. Sky. High! Not gonna lie... I got freaked out! Gotta love when an author can grab you and suck you so far into their book that the outside world just disappears! Cami Checketts really knows how to bring her books to life for her readers! Seriously loving all her books!
Here's the thing. Cami Checketts knows how to write a good book. She knows pacing and tension and love. She brings those things together in such a fabulous way that I literally devour her books. Can't put them down, so bummed when they are over kind of devouring. The characters are real and believable and you connect to them, feel with them.
Before reading this book I read a couple books that were less than stellar and it's super hard to write reviews that are negative. You start questioning if you are just being too picky, you know? But then I picked up this book and I was reminded that yes, I do know what a good book is. This is the kind of book that keeps you pressing forward, wanting to read more. I know what a good book is.
Cami is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors and I am always so excited when I see she has a new book coming out. This was probably one of my favorites so far. It was a good, clean book and a great diversion for my brain. Yay!
I was really looking forward to this one, but unfortunately I ended up really struggling with it. I didn't like that right from the start the heroine was physically attracted to the hero even though she was married to another man at the time! Nothing happens, but I just wasn't able to get past it, and I couldn't help but wish that aspect of the story had been written differently. While there were moments in this story that I enjoyed, overall it was just okay. I think it just wasn't the book for me. I own another book by this author and I might try reading it at some point to see if I enjoy it more than I did this one.

Interested in a clean mystery romance? Shadows in the Curtains by Cami Checketts is for you!
Emmaline works at the dilapidated Coaster Theater in Cannon Beach, Oregon and is married to her best friend Grayson. For several months, she has been receiving several stalkerish notes but doesn't know who they are from. One guy in particular has his eyes on Emma and wants to know more about her. Emma catches him watching her from a distance not only where she performs but also where she works out at the gym. Emma has captured an unbelievable attraction as she is whirled into his blue, sparkling eyes like the ocean in Tahiti.
Emma becomes paranoid between the notes and seeing this guy everywhere she goes. One tragic night takes a life and has left Emma in an unimaginable darkness state. Captain Joshua Campbell, a firefighter, feels even more protectiveness over Emma but she will not have anything to do with him. The stalker is still out there and the suspense will keep you guessing. This is full of love, suspense, and thrills so get ready! I loved this story and was a very short read.
What a great clean suspense/romance novel. I've been wanting to read some of Cami Checketts books for a while and have finally done so. I really enjoyed the pacing and the mystery/suspense throughout. Honestly I kept changing my opinion of who the stalker was. I will say that I guessed him first but the novel was well written that I kept second guessing myself until the very end and the final reveal.
I have to admit that, although the novel isn't scary just suspenseful, as I was reading in bed last night I about jumped a mile high when my sleeping husband's foot twitched and touched my foot. Ha ha ha ha!!! I laughed pretty hard after that. I was near the end and at a pretty intense scene when it happened.
Next thing I really loved was the setting and the MCs job. I love Cannon Beach and the area there. I lived just up the coast from there for many years. My favorite beach is right there at Ecola state park, Indian Beach. So if you're ever heading that way make sure you watch the tide tables and hit that beach. Fun tide pools and the best sand. Lots of surfers love it too! There's even an awesome little creek to play in too all while having an amazing view of the ocean and yes, even Haystack Rock. I loved her job because I'm a musical fanatic and am actually involved in one right now at our local opera house, the really fun thing is that they just did a production of My Fair Lady.
So let's just say that I really connected to this novel in those ways.
The stalker is very intense and you never know where he is going to appear next. Who do you trust when everyone around you is a suspect?
There is a sweet romance with some heated kisses and hand holding. There is a murder and some blood and a few other fights plus the aspect of the stalker. So overall it was a clean read but I would recommend to more mature readers who can handle reading about those situations.
Cami Checketts did it again! She has written another suspenseful romance that had me at the edge of my seat! I was completely absorbed into the story and characters. It had me guessing the majority of the time who the killer was. This has become a new favorite.
This book had my heart thumping! It had plenty of mystery and suspense to keep my eyes bulging out and the back of my hair standing up. It was a little creepy at first when the notes were mentioned at the beginning of the story, but then I became horrified when the stalker murdered the heroine's beloved. I immediately began to feel the terror and paranoia that Emmy went through. It has been a while since I've read a book that has had me nervous, anxious, and completely afraid. I even found myself gasping at the breathing scene after Emmy ran away from Josh in the rain. This book had me spooked!
Though this was a very suspenseful book, I also enjoyed the romance factor. Emmy and Josh had great chemistry. Emmy's attraction and revulsion towards Josh at first was understanding. I was happy to read how she quickly changed her mind when she realized the truth of the situation and the truth of her feelings. Josh was a doll. He gave Emmy her space and respected her, yet at the same time he was courageous enough to keep pursuing after her. He was also very admirable for all the heroic deeds that he did. When these two finally kissed, I couldn't help but cheer.
I would like to say more but I am afraid that I would spoil the book. Let me end it by saying that this was an excellent read. I was completely captivated by the story and characters. This book also scared me to the point that I'm triple locking my doors at night. I highly recommend this book.
This was a fast-paced read, full of romance and suspense. I enjoyed it a lot.
Moral Note: Stalker that leaves notes (nothing graphic), a murder - slightly graphic, attempted murder. No language that I can remember, romance was clean.
Wow, this is one book that I didn't want to put down! I was hooked on this story from the very beginning. I loved Emmy as a character, she is a strong and courageous woman who seems to have everything together, but when her husband gets murdered, she loses it just a little bit. But when she bounces back, she's still an amazingly strong character. I loved the setting of this book, I have fond memories of being in the Haystack Rock/Ecola area, I can just picture Emmy taking one of her ocean swims in that beautiful area. I enjoyed the love story here, I LOVED that Emmy got a second chance at love. I do have to say that I had no idea who the bad guy was and was as surprised as Emmy. This is a fun, cute, mysterious love story that you won't want to miss!
This is a great book! It is full of suspense and I couldn’t put it down. I read it in just a few hours and stayed up way too late because I didn’t want to go to bed without finishing it. Cami does it again! I loved the twist at the end. I was thinking the book was a little predictable but then she added the twist and it was a nice surprise! I am also partial to Fireman since I’m married to one so it quickly became one of my new favorites! As always Cami writes a clean, feel good romance filled with suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Totally worth the read!!

Thank you Cami for allowing me the opportunity for a sneak peek on this wonderful book. Our heroine has a home on the beach and a life in the theater. Cool, right? Problem is she has a stalker. Someone is leaving her little notes that are scary. A murder in their small town is a big deal, and especially one with a note from her stalker. Who is this person that is scaring her? You just have to read this book to find out!! :)
Shadows in the Curtain is a great suspenseful romance. I've always loved a good mystery, and it's hard to find one that isn't obvious who did it. But this one was great! There are multiple suspects and just when you think you know who did it, something changes your mind. Loved it! The romance is believable and clean. This is the first book I've read from this author. I'm now a fan. I can't wait to read more of her books!
This was a good book, but it felt kinda rushed along. It started out so good and had the foundation for a great story but I felt like too much was summarized and that the female protagonist made huge emotional switches without a lot of explanation or build up. Still loved the story though, especially how the author weaves adventure and suspense with a sweet romance. Will definitely still read more of her books!!
Great characterization, a lovable hero, and a suspense plot that will keep the reader guessing until the very end, Shadows in the Curtains is an enjoyable, entertaining read. As always, Ms. Checketts has weaved a clean, memorable love story. I highly recommend this and all of Ms. Checketts other books!
A deadly hunt for her stalker/killer leaves her world becoming smaller and more fearful. Feelings of guilt haunt her after her husbands death keeping her from the help and support she needs. There are many possible killers and I feel that the author could have gone in several directions. It is hard to believe that the killer waited a year before making his next move. Not one of my favorites and closer to 3.5 stars.
Fun and suspenseful (clean) beach read. Emmy is an actress who headlines a small theater at the beach. She is successful, smart, and has a husband she loves. When there's a brutal murder, she is terrified. She has a stalker who leaves notes and she doesn't know where to turn. Josh is a hunky firefighter who seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and is a suspect in the case, but she's attracted to him. I appreciate that the story doesn't go deeper than kissing.
"Shadows in the Curtain" is a clean, suspenseful, mystery which kept me on the edge of my seat through out the entire book! I did not read this at night, because I had read some other reviews and did not want to get freaked out by the stalker in this book.
I thought I had the stalker and mystery figured out by the end of the book, but of course I was wrong.
Emmy experiences a horrible tragedy in her life and is left to pick up the pieces and figure out if the murderer and her stalker is the same person. She continues to workout at the gym, do piano lessons, and work at the theater so she can get some of her life back again. Every where she turns though, she runs into local fireman Josh. She feels guilty about being angry with him and being attracted to him at the same time.
But what if someone she knows, someone who is close to her, is the killer?
I have read other books by this author and I love that she writes very suspenseful, clean, thrilling books!
I received a copy of this e-book complimentary from the author in exchange for an honest review on my blog and social media. All opinions are my own.

Shadows in the Curtain: Billionaire Beach Romance Book 1 is by Cami Checketts. This book is full of adventure and suspense as well as romance. It doesn’t take too long to read and it is great for summer reading. Emmaline was a major actress in the small theater. She played many of the lead roles and did them well. She also worked with the owner of the theatre in deciding which plays to do, setting the casts, and the million and one items in theater life. However, lately she had been getting notes saying “You’re Mine”. She turned the last one over to her husband, Grayson, and tried to forget it. Grayson would take care of it like he did her. Josh Campbell was a captain on the Fire department. He regularly worked out at the local gym where he noticed Emmaline. She was the first woman who even tempted him since his divorce. However, he was devastated to find out she was married. He didn’t go that route, so he left her alone. Then Emmaline’s life changed drastically, Grayson is murdered! Who would do something like that? Why? Everyone is a suspect.
Here's the thing. Cami Checketts knows how to write a good book. She knows pacing and tension and love. She brings those things together in such a fabulous way that I literally devour her books. Today, I read up to 37% and just had to check the computer to see if this had been released earlier in a different form. I discovered that I had already read this as a different release of the story. It was released as "Shadows in the Curtain" but not with the cover "Destination Billionaire Romance." Last time, I rated it two stars. I noticed in my last review that I said I scan-read it almost from the get-go and that I didn't like the characters. It is not striking me like that this time--or at least not that severely--but I also don't want to re-read it. I think Kelton is odd and their friendship is odd. Josh seems so nice but pathetic. Emmy seems odd and totally overplayed. So, maybe I don't like the characters very much. Normally, I would rate this one star for not finishing it, but in all fairness--I did finish it once before--so I'm just giving this two stars and not finishing it. I feel really irritated that there was no notice that this was a re-release.
I have to say, first and foremost, that I absolutely LOVE Ms. Checketts novels! They are wonderful and beautiful, and it is not every day that you find a truly Christian romance novelist! I am so lucky to have stumbled upon her work, and I am looking forward to reading more and more of her stories!
Do you like romance? Do you like suspense? Well then you have come to the right place! "Shadows in the Curtain" is an EXCELLENT novel that kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning until the very end! You have a murder, a knife attack, and then last but not least- Justice! I implore everyone to pick up Ms. Checketts stories, they are excellent and this has been the best one that I have read yet!
If you have not dived into the "Billionaire Beach Romance," novels; please, let me be the first to beg you to pick each one of them up and read them at your earliest convenience!

This is a great clean romance/suspense story. Like all the other books in the Destination Billionaire Romance series this is a stand-alone novella. The characters had depth and the story well-crafted and believable. As for suspense, I think it normal to try to identify the villain early on. I was sure I had him pegged right from the start, but I was wrong. Oops! I shouldn’t have given away the fact that the villain was a man. It was obvious that Ms. Checketts did her site research very well. I have been to Cannon Beach and Seaside several times and it was exactly as depicted. I found myself quickly caught up in the story and my eyes glued to my I-Pad to the final page.

Shadows In The Curtain by Cami Checketts is a phenomenal romantic suspense. Ms. Checketts has delivered a book that is well-written and kept this reader on the edge of her seat. Emmaline's husband is murdered by her stalker. Josh is a firefighter and has been attracted to Emmaline. Emmaline and Josh's story is loaded with amazing characters, drama, action, suspense and sizzle. I enjoyed Shadows In The Curtain from the first page to the last and look forward to reading more from Cami Checketts soon. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
