Dori Chaconas learned story pacing from an early age while entertaining her younger siblings. The author of such picture books as ON A WINTRY MORNING, ONE LITTLE MOUSE, and MOMMA, WILL YOU?, she lives in Germantown, Wisconsin.
When the extended cow family gathers for Christmas, Aunt Moosha get stuck in the floor and no one can budge her, even with the tractor! Will the be able to have a Christmas tree if Moosha can't move from the corner where it belongs?
Rhyming text and great illustrations, but the story is a little silly. It would make a decent group read aloud, but a better one-on-one read for kids who love cows.
The cows return home for holiday fun with their family. They come from far and near to spend time around the Christmas tree. But while dancing a Cowpoke polka Moosha crashes through the floor, and gets stuck right where the tree was supposed to be. What happens next in this rhyming holiday story is the stuff that leads to family traditions.
Make the most of a bad situation! When a cow becomes stuck in your living room, simply decorate her for Christmas instead of a tree! And start a new tradition. Tears quickly turn to cheers as Moosha the cow becomes a lovely tree.
This is a hilarious, charming Christmas picture book about cows and Christmas tree. It was definitely our most read book of the holiday season--we'd routinely read it twice in a row.
This is a delightful story with funny illustrations about how an unfortunate occurance can quickly become a family tradition. The pleasant cadence of the rhyme paired with the humorous illustrations really make this story unique. Children everywhere will giggle at the thought of cows celebrating Christmas while at the same time be reminded of their own family celebrations and traditions.
A bit on the silly side (and the rhymes/rhythm could be improved) ... but that's OK. It's a fun one that is new to me ... and so will most likely be new to a lot of the kiddos. Saw it on display at the public library yesterday, will be reading it in the school library tomorrow!
