The Promise: Prism, Book 3

Rate this book
Ojasvi "Sin" Sinclair.

Fast-forwarding three years after it was finally revealed, what's in a name?

Ashira now knows the man she once thought of as a felon laborer is far more than the task she'd bargained for. Yes, he's a convicted felon who works in home-building. He's also convicted in his spiritual walk, a savvy entrepreneur, laboriously supportive, a tad insane, and has possibly run out of patience for her. He's also the father of her three-year-old child.

Find out how Jas and Ashira navigate through pain, resentment, acceptance, and co-parenting while remaining solid for their child and being true to themselves.

Is there room for them to say more? Or should they simply say less?

The Promise is book three of Prism and completes the series. This book contains angst, violence, profanity, sexually explicit content, and potentially gory material. Intended for mature listeners.

Three words to describe this amazing ass series….. Ojasvi Lamont Sinclair! The name we had to fight for our lives to get 🤣😩🤣 I LOVED LOVED LOVED this series!!!! Idk why I took so long to get into it….. yea I do, it was the last I finished series by LB for me 😭😭😭 queue’s 🎶 never can say goodbye 🎶

I absolutely loved the consistency Jas displayed when it came to Shi Shi! He was the same book one page one until book three page 539. Lawd these two came a looooong way!

Shi shi finally got herself together and quit playing with this man and im glad because I was ready to snatch Jas up myself 👅 💦!!! The man was pressure and I was a tea pot ready to boil over!! Shi Shi’s growth was a long journey but I love who she was at the end of the series! I never doubted Jas but Shi Shi has a bish worried for a minute!

I’m soooo glad Juggy pulled through because Love had me biting my nails for a minute! 😩 I’m also glad Juggy talked some sense into Jas because we were mf tied with this dog and pony show Jas and Shi Shi put on! This book gave us the angsty toxicity that we’ve come to love from Love and I hopes she’s off somewhere writing her next masterpiece!

P.S. Chi Chi needed a few ass whoopins! 😐😒

The angst and stress of it all

The STRESS!!

Can we say problematic, toxic, hella annoying...that is what Ashira and Jas gave me most of the book. They were literally tethered together, but did everything to avoid it. Because their chemistry was so beautiful when it worked I was rooting for them, but they drove me nuts.

Jas...I thought he was about to become my new bookbae, but he was too calculating for me. He always had a secret and everything he did was for some damn ultimate outcome and he didn't care about the casualties along the way. It took him some years to get Ashira, like I knew it would but he made sure to support her and his daughter along the way. He was a damn good man and father, but that savage was always lurking especially when it came to Ashira. He did not play about her period. He was King Petty though because that whole situation with Josie was so unnecessary, but again it was a calculated move. I didn't really like his grimy air.

Ashira, I really was taking up for her in the last book. However, she was really on my nerves. Like I get it she was mad but why run from the man you are literally deeply in love with. Separated for years and didn't even move on, but refuse to accept his love. Truth is he was an as$ but it just made no sense. She was so insecure about her choices and didn't want anyone questioning her, but she was literally questioning herself. I felt sorry for her because her parents had really messed her up and she was making bad decisions.

For a couple that met through therapy I really don't understand why they didn't go to couples therapy because they needed it badly.

The sub characters saved this book for me. Juggy aww he was more outspoken and I liked how he kept checking Jas about Shi Shi because someone needed to. Boss little Chi Chi was a handful and a half. She didn't play about her daddy and she had Jas wrapped around her little fingers. Uugh trifling as$ Celestine made my skin crawl. She was angry and it took it out on the world. Loved the features from the Ellis family, especially my all time bookbae Sadik.

I feel like this book could have been shorter, some of the angst could have been avoided. I also would've preferred a stronger ending. It was in Shi Shi and Jas fashion though. Above all I loved this book as you can see I'm highly attached to these characters and Love Belvin breaks my heart just to build it back up like only she can.

Whew! The ride this series took me on was everything I wanted and needed! Jas Sinclair is the savage king every girl secretly hopes for! At this point in life, if you aren’t reading Love Belvin’s work, you ain’t reading. LB’s pen game is pure artistry.

I was expecting so much more.

I am an loyal LB reader. Honestly, this book left me disappointed. The first two books in the series had me anticipating more for the couple. Three years is a serious time jump for no growth. Ashira and Jas were both overly childish. Too much back and forth, playing around. The persistent arguing. The Prism series is my least favorite on the LB Universe. I didn’t enjoy this read at all. I cringed at the mannerisms of their daughter. Simply I didn’t enjoy this read.

Hmm idk

This book just wasn’t on par as the rest of the series. There seem to be entirely too much in-fighting between the characters. It was hard to humanize them because they were always angry. The reconciliation between Jas and Ashira felt really abrupt. Even Jas still dating Josie just didn’t seem like something Ashira would stand for. Her personality test did not mesh well with that plot. She was absolutely devastated when Austin was cheating but was okay with Jas seeing another woman? Doesn’t make sense.

Finally!

Grace is apropos!! It pains me to say that this was my least fave LB series and most certainly not the finale I’m used to getting from LB.

I am all for the couples journey, growth and character development, it’s what makes for a great love story; however, this installment took forever and I do mean ever to get the couple there and even once they arrive to together, there’s still an outlier. This installment was filled with too much resentment, and to be honest I cannot wrap my mind around why Ashira was so mad after finally learning his name considering she was 9 months pregnant, but that’s my opinion. There are also a lot more cameos/past character mentions and so many Bible verses…I don’t think Ezra quoted the Bible as much Jas and Ashira. I still look forward to future LB series, but this was a slow drag for me.

Exhausted

I find it difficult to believe that Love really wrote this book. It doesn't read or feel.like her quality of work that's proven to be immediate hits.

I was tired just with the first dry funeral scene . That should have been my clue that the remainder of the book wasn't planned to go well.

I usually purchase anything LB on site but sadly this series was a waste for me.

I'm not gonna lie...LB had me nervous when i was damn near 80% through the book and Jas and Ashiras asses still hadn't gotten their shit together. But in the end...all the stress and frustration these two put me through was worth it. Ten times over.

I loved how, in the end, Jas is still a very flawed man. I love that The Promise didn't wrap with Jas being this fully reformed and completely grounded man. He still has work to do on himself, but he also accepts that he is who he is and some things might never change. Add to that, the fact that ASHIRA now understands, accepts, fully embraces, and loves Jas...ALL parts of him, was just icing on the cake.

Another flawless LB series under the belt. And since I waited to read this one, I already have another LB story to look forward to.

Oh, and one more thing. While I know it might be fruitless to hope for, I would looooove for my favorite person in the Prism series, Juggy, to get his own book. I loved him SO much

If Loving you is wrong...

Whewwww... chileee Jas & Shi wore me out! But I get it. There is nothing easy worth having! Love shouldn't be hard, but getting there & keeping it means there will be struggles. It ain't pretty! Hurt people hurt people! Unintentionally or not, this makes the struggle that much more challenging to get through. I still saw unconditional love that could not be denied. One thing about a LBU alpha man, they gonna make it known what's theirs! Ashira Witherspoon was marked wayyyy before the Promise. Ojasvi loved the only way he knew how and it did get ugly!
Love reminds us over and over again, they're flawed, but they too deserve to be loved. Thank you for another 10-Star series. I'm a fan 4 life! #TeamLove #LBUFansaredifferent 💜💚💛

I enjoyed this series just not as much as other books by Love Belvin. I rated Mercy 4 stars, Grace 5 stars, and The Promise 3 stars. I rated the last book 3 stars because I didn’t enjoy the fact that the first 70% of the book was fluff. Overall the series was a 4 for me.

Team Jas!

Book three confirmed it for me, I love Jas and I want him all to myself! I wanted Ashira to get it together so bad, but she really had to work it out with herself. She had some many cringey second-hand embarrassing moments. Whew! Now what left me stumped was Ashira’s motherhood, my heart was sad about that because not me agreeing with Celestine in the solarium!!! Then for her to have the audacity to suggest trying for another knowing what she did in Paris. Jas assessment that Ashira was always taking jobs because he felt like there was nothing at home to keep her there hurt me too. It appears like Rayna, Ashira might have had the running bug too. Ooooh and Ava reading her down, just for to go to Jas and get her feelings hurt again. Wow, it was just all too much. I wanted to hug her all through out this book. This might have been the Promise, but Ashira really need grace extended to her in this one. Josie was too concerned with Ashira and that situation had me side-eyeing Lex. I was a little bummed that they didn’t find a middle ground until like almost the end. One thing Love Belvin is gone teach you is some good Bible verses and to NEVER come between a BM&BD!! 😭 Overall, this was an amazing conclusion to a flawed couple who at the end of sitting with their ugly, found a beautiful connection well worth the salvage to rebuild and restore. Once again, I am truly blown away with the works of Love Belvin.

Emotional Rollercoaster

Talk about an amazing body of work. I didn’t pay enough $ for this kind of masterpiece. It was a emotional rollercoaster. Get a bottle of wine, snuggle up and prepare for an emotional journey. Angst!!!!! for sure. I kept picturing a double helix when reading their story, like a dance, but also like two magnets repulsing each other. I love me some Jas, Lordt!!! I enjoyed his growth even though he needed some punches in the forehead. He was calculated yet messy. And that bathtub moment, honey please come and check me, get me in line like that any and everyday.
I’m so conflicted about Shi-Shi. I feel for her but I wanna strangle her at the same time. Her mother was the root of her insecurities, her judgmental attitude and her emotional immaturity. Her growth was palpable and still, she is a work in progress, like all of us. She handled some situations better than me though cuz that momma, chileeeeeboybye!
LOVE BELVIN! you are the G.O.A.T. I always go back to re-read your bodies of work. So many messages even making me do some introspection. Your and previous and current bodies of work has always given me clarity about people I interact with on a daily basis. Yes, you are my therapist. Definitely grown my emotional intelligence and learning to give people, Grace. Love yah! Keep up the good work. I can’t wait to read your next project.

I wish I could rate The Promise higher than 5 stars. Love Belvin gives us the perfect ending to The Prism series. Complex, dark, dynamic, and emotionally charged, The Promise gave me so much joy - reading this book I was transported to a whole new world. Every single time I read a book from Love Belvin, I walk away a different person, a better person. If you like romance novels that are layered, thought provoking, and emotionally stimulating, then I always recommend a series from Love Belvin, but I definitely recommend The Prism because the series is full of relatable characters, great dialogue, and there are additional plots, outside of the love story between the MMC and FMC, that grasp your attention, too. It's a must read!

Spice rating: 4/5 - There aren't many spicy scenes, but the ones in the book are certainly descriptive!

Content warnings:
Graphic: Gore, Sexual content, Toxic relationship, Blood, Pregnancy, Injury/Injury detail

Moderate: Bullying, Cursing, Death, Emotional abuse, Physical abuse, Sexism, Violence, Abandonment, Alcohol, Classism

Minor: Drug use, Infidelity, Mental illness, Grief, Abortion, Death of parent, Toxic fri

Again, Shi-Shi drove me crazy and no she did not get at my girl Lex. In another lifetime, that scene w/ Lex may have gone differently… lol… I loved Jas in the first 2 books, but his anger issues in this book were extreme and too much for me. He was no doubt a good father and I loved his friendship/ brotherhood with Juggy. I did not like how Jas was so controlling of Ashira, while he went and did him. The way Jas dove in with Josie, seemed out of character. Ashira and Jas were both playing with Josie’s heart and I did not like it. Chi- Chi stole my heart, but little miss could be a bit much. This last book was not as satisfying as other wrap-ups by LB. I wanted to see more of Jas and Shi together working through their ish. I wanted to see how Chi Chi handled another little person vying for her Daddy’s attention. I still feel like so much was unresolved, unsaid and wanted to see both characters being better people and figuring out their family dynamic. There is a lot of generational issues they need to resolve/ acknowledge in building their own family. This book alone could spin off into so many other storylines, these people have issues…lol…. I’m only giving this a 4 on the strength that I still think LB is a talented writer.

What a journey!

Kismet? Fate? Destiny? Promise? Frustration, anxiety and anger were most like the descriptions of the pairing of Jas and Ashira. Whew...what a long and painful journey to their HEA. I often thought that they both got in their way. I can't say that I am on either Team Jas or Team Shi Shi. I am more of Team No one Else because no matter how Jas tried to insert others into his "list" all roads led back to Ashira. I believed Ashira knew long before he did which made the journey excessively bumpy. The last two series this author wrote was mentally tasking because this was not only a heart thing bit moreover a mind thing. "As a man thinketh..." I appreciated the spiritual aspects of the story and wanted to find Della in my homestate of South Carolina. That place spoke of healing and peace. Bella the yacht was also a place of peace. Both places launched the needed and overdue coupling of our beloved protagonists. I will add that the antagonists list was a little too long for my comfort. Juggy and Chelsea will always get my love but folks like Celestine, Noel, and even Josie...not!

YES …. Say More!!!!!! We need more!!! 💜🔥

The only things that saddens me about this installment of their journey is that it’s the last. Quite sure it won’t be the last we hear of them but it will be the last where focus will be on them. I loved this! It was so real. No, everything isn’t perfect, but there on their way of being perfectly them with their “Promise” to one another. I do hope we can get details of their wedding in one of LB’s future bodies of work. It would also be nice to know how long Shi-Shi will continue to travel/dance and if she and Jas will eventually run the construction business together. Also, what is the sex of their second child? It was also great to see some of LBU’s beloved characters from past projects! I just need another installment to this series! 🥰💜🔥🥰💜🔥💜

Mercy, Grace, and The Promise!

I always say Trust The Process… Love Belvin that is exactly what I did when I started this series! You always lay the foundation/the ground work. It’s just like tilling the ground/the germination process! The end result is The Prism! Ashira and Jas took us there!

P.S. Thank you 😊 Love for bringing our faves back throughout this series.. Mr. & Mrs. Ezra Carmichael, Mr. & Mrs. Azmir Jacobs, Young Lord, Ragee,Mr. & Mrs. Sadik Ellis, Elle Jackson, Tori (The Banger) McNabb-Spencer (Ashton (B-Way Burger), Shawn-Nicole, Tache!

Jas and Ashira

Baby this series drove me the craziest out of all the books that came before it! I was team both of them after reading book 1 & 2 but this book here made me understand how selfish and unaccountable Jas really was! I didn’t like him as much in this book and even felt as if Ashira didn’t deserve his lack of respect after awhile. They way he went about everything was childish and petty! I can’t believe Ashira still wanted him let alone found him attractive after everything was said and done. Jas is my least favorite male character from the LBU. But love you wrote the heck out of this series. The emotion that was invoked was amazing! Keep up the good work!

Lovely

ShiShi finally got some damn sense!!! It took a min but finally her character grew and became something more than the judgmental person from the previous books. As she grew I began to like her more and felt like she was finally worthy of Jas.

Jas , such a powerful combination of character, he can quote the Bible and yet he went hesitate to put you six feet under, that’s a balance 😉😉

The finale was wonderful and as per usual, Love Belvin did her thanggggg and showed why her writing is above the norm and top tier

Whew! 🤦🏾‍♀️

Whew this book right here! This book right here threw me for a loop. At first I was on the fence and I didn’t know who I liked in this series they both was so irritating but, by book 2 I like Shi Shi a little more and by book 3 I’m looking at Jas like wtf I think he was my least favorite LBU man. Playing with these women emotions, his list, Ava, Josie I just couldn’t with him I’m glad Shi is finding herself in the world but I don’t think Jas deserved her. This book was still good nonetheless definitely worth the read.

I’ve read every book written by Love Belvin and this series just didn’t do it for me. Overall Love is an amazing author and I highly recommend you read her entire catalogue; however, this series was the worst one.

The errors in the book regarding the chapter name and who was the speaker was annoying.

Solid conclusion

I was worried about how this would end. LB always gives us a happy ending but at one I don't think I wanted one. Shi Shi was testing my patience. However, this story took enough turns to enjoy the ending. Another great series.

Disappointing

It's clear the author and/or her editor don't read reviews. Maybe she just doesn't care about making improvements. I've read her entire catalog of books and she always says "lunge" instead of "stride". They're not interchangeable.

This book was unnecessarily long (and I like long books), it's wordy for no reason. It's the third book and Ashira still has no redeeming qualities and there's nothing endearing about her. The author has kept with the "thug" thing that Ashira keeps saying and it's still just as annoying as the first time. And for the millionth time, what millennial uses that word?

We should've seen an actual conversation with Noelle and Ashira resolving their issues. In all 523 pages we couldn't get one conversation. There was also no real resolve with her parents. Were Ashira's parents going to make an effort with Noelle or not? There was no promise of them to be better. I feel like knowing they're cut off or not would've been nice.

Also, it's 2022 the word "retarded" is deragtory?

The book ended an a weird note and the last line was corny.

I will not be reading anything else from her unless it's free on Kindle Unlimited because this was a waste of money and she can't be trusted to put out quality stories anymore. Even her last book from the Connecticut King series wasn't up to par with her usual work.

*Most of this review was written after I was 23% into the book.

wow

I still don’t like Ashira. This book was hard to get through because I really don’t like this Lady. I tried to understand her point of view, and why she felt the way she felt, however, I could not get past that that JAS told her beginning what he wanted, and also expressed his reservations with her knowing his full name, and about his past because he feared she’d run… And then, when she learned more she ran. And every time she called him a murderer or thug, it just made my blood boil, because this is exactly what he did not want and yet she kept doing it while also not allowing him to move on. In my opinion, she used him. His money, his body, everything. Love Jas. Really don’t like Ashira.

I usually reread this Love Belvin’s books over and over again… But because of this Ashira character, I don’t think I’ll be able to. I’ll have to try again in a few months or so because I really want to understand Ashira’s perspective because right now all I see is her being a selfish and judgmental person.
