This is a story that starts at childhood and ends with adulthood. It's about the first time your lips meet and the last time they part. It's the free falling of love and the pain of crashing. It's broken promises and stolen kisses. It's reaching for the sky and letting dreams slip away. It's the past controlling the present and the present defining the future. It's learning when to stay and when to go. It's the story of the Baxter Triplets and the ones they fell in love with.
~~~Spoiler Alert~~~ OMG I'm so disappointed with this book. I absolutely LOVE JM Sevilla's Marked series. So when I saw this book I stopped everything to read it. I was THRILLED. On that note. What an utter disappointment. Yes the beginning of the book was great. The way the characters developed, I was hooked. Then almost towards the half way mark, the book just took a turn for the worst. When I say worst, I mean I absolutely hate this book and if I had read this book first, I'd never read anything from this author again.
This is where the spoilers come in so if you don't want to see it, then don't continue. I'll try not to get too specific.
If we didn't have just the stupid decision makings, you had the player who slept around like crazy and then did it right under the h's nose for no good reason. Why was that particular H even in the book? They don't get together till the very end. The story is mostly about the Hs or hs with other people. I"m not interested in reading about a romance where they have other girlfriends or boyfriends. And don't even get me started on Ava and Parker. I hate those two What she did to Wes was so stupid that if I were his sisters I would have given her a much needed beat down. And Parker? How the HECK is he a H in this book. He's usually the one the h opens her eyes about and dumps his butt. So there goes 2/3 of the romance. Then you have Ryker and Megan (I think that's their names). That was boring. Megan was an idiot and I think it should have been her who met her demise. Sorry for the harsh words but after having to read this garbage, I have no other opinion. Now to go back to my old trusty Sweet Temptation by KC Lynn to put me in a good mood again.
I wish this author would have stuck to her style of riding. Or at least kept the H and the h someone you'd want to be with.
I was sadly disappointed by this companion. I hate to say this because previous works are in my top five of all time. It dragged and had too many simultaneous plots. I skipped to the last chapter because it didn't hold my attention.
The ONLY REASON I gave this book FOUR stars and not FIVE is only because the beginning of the book dragged. I'm not well with introductions though. This author knows how to get to the readers! The tears I shed and the heart breaks I felt through this book almost made me believe I was the one going through them. The good times though made it all worth while. Defiantly worth reading in my book!
Four stars! One of my top reads last year was JM Sevilla's Missing Link from the Marked series. I also loved her book Beginnings. I was eagerly anticipating her release of this one! This book focuses on the Baxter triplets, Wes, Maggie, and Violet; who are the children of Lily and Noah from the Marked series. What we get here is basically three separate love stories in one book. It is a coming of age/NA type of book. It follows the kids from the age of 8 all the way into their 30s. I really really like JM's voice. It is clear that she takes her craft seriously. There is a load of angst in this book, some difficult situations concerning child abuse, and poor choices that the main characters make in life that hurt others. You do not have to read Noah and Lily's story in the Marked series, but I would totally suggest it. Look forward to more from this author!
5+ stars!!! I took my time reading this book. First of all the evolution from the Noah Baxter suspense series to this was phenomenally seamless. Yes, this can easily be a stand-alone, but why would you not want to fully immerse yourself in the fantastic all-encompassing saga of ‘The Baxters’? When to Let Go is about Noah and Lilly’s kids. There is no main hero or heroine in this book but instead a handful of main characters who become intricately folded into each other’s lives. I did not want to miss a beat as they all sorted through their growing pains, and my heart melted with each chapter. The author poured all she had in making these characters captivating. I felt this and became emotionally invested in each page, not wanting this read to end.
This was my least favorite book by this author. I was very excited about the premise of reading 3 love stories in one. I did fall in love with one couple more than the others (Wes and Ava). I also felt like Maggie's story wasn't given enough light. What made this 3 stars instead of 5, was I felt there was too much angst and too much tragedy. Overall an ok read.
When To Let Go is the story of the Baxter triplets and the people they fall in love with. The Baxter triplets you will know from the end of the Marked series if you have read that (the Marked series is their parents story). Man did this book do a number on me. I was already in a sad reminiscing mood because of the day it was (the anniversary of a loved ones death) and for some reason I thought this would be a fun, light read. I was expecting it to be more like the authors other works, but it wasn't in a good way. This was such a downer for me in a really great way. Sometimes I like reading something that will rip my heart out, smash it into a billion pieces, then put it all back together again.
The story opens with Parker and Ava, brother and sister who have a terrible mother who has even worse boyfriends. Parker is ten and trying to keep his kid sister safe. He tries to keep all the bad things that happened to him from happening to her. He is her protector and he would do anything for her. Quickly bad things happen and they end up in foster care where Parker meets Ryder, another kid with issues. Ryder quickly becomes like a brother to Parker and Ava and they are each others family now. Only Parker and Ava get adopted and loose track of Ryder.
Once they are adopted that is where the Baxter triplets come in. Their adoptive moms are bff with the Baxter triplets mom. Up until this point I wasn't really invested in the story that much. The writing felt kind of detached, but it was still interesting. Once the Baxter's get involved then I really started to love this heartbreaking read. As I said I was reading this on the anniversary of the death of a loved one so I might have been a bit more susceptible to the sadness of the events that happened, and it was a kind of depressing read for me until the end, but I loved it. I loved most of the characters and how everyone came together and how this wasn't just an easy love story. It had a lot of depth that I don't see in a lot of books. Even when there are struggles in other books it didn't feel like this one. In this story there are so many points when you are just like how are they ever going to get together? How will they ever work it out? Really a great read.
So let's talk about the characters. My favorites were Ava and Wes. Ava had something happen to her when she was younger, but the really bad stuff didn't leave scars like they did for Parker. She still is not confident and lacks self esteem, never sure people actually like her or that she is attractive or anything like that. She broke my heart the most as she is so innocent and susceptible to terrible people. Her "friend" was so heartbreaking. You hate her right from the beginning, but Ava doesn't realize how terrible she is. It doesn't help that the so called friend plants these ideas in her head, ideas that are similar to what Ava thinks so they end up making things worse. Wes is amazing with her. I loved that at eight years old he knew Ava was the one for him. I love that he never wavered from that for a moment. I loved him. Even though he obviously loved her so much, Ava has a hard time always seeing that and understanding that he does not and will never want someone else. It doesn't help that Ava has a learning disability so she doesn't think she is smart and beautiful and everything like Wes really deserves. At least she doesn't always think that way. Thanks "friend"! Their story is so heartbreaking to me I just can not get them out of my head. What happens is probably good in the long run as it helps with some issues, they probably needed what happened to happen, but man did it crush me when I was reading it. I was so attached to the characters I almost cried for them. Loved it.
At first sight Violet did not like Parker. He has major issues and you cannot help but feel bad for him. He doesn't always know how to deal with his feelings in a constructive way so he acts out. Noah is a godsend for him as he knows what it is like to have that anger inside and not know what to do with it. He still has a lot of issues, but Violet and he form a bond. They were really heartbreaking as well as you can see how much he cares, but because of things he hasn't dealt with he keeps messing up until it seems to be too late. Parker is one of those kids that you just want to magically fix and make everything better for. It was a really rough ride for the two of them.
Then we have the last two, Ryder and Maggie. I loved Ryder. He is such a sweet, kind, caring person. He has issues just like Parker, he doesn't like to be touched, he doesn't talk much, he cannot be in an enclosed space, etc, but he is still the sweetest boy ever. I was so happy when he came back into Parker and Ava's life. I was glad to see him again and watch him grow. Seeing Ryder at the end was just amazing to see how far he had come. I loved him. Maggie on the other hand....I didn't care for her for most of the book. Her insane need to be the best no matter the cost...I really did not like that. I would get so angry with her that if she were a real person I wouldn't not speak to her. It is one thing to risk your own life when you are being stupid, but to do it with other people in the car and all so that you can win race? That is unacceptable. My loved one died in a car accident so I had no compassion for her and her recklessness in that regards. I just don't understand her. I don't think I ever will understand that mindset. And her whole I like X, but I need to be the best first and then maybe I will get together with him thing just really doesn't make any sense. She says at one point that she worries she will be on top, but he won't be waiting for her anymore. Really it is like why would he? In the second half of the book some things happened with her that made me truly hate her for a while. I wanted her to suffer more, for people to be angrier with her, to have her really own up to her mistakes. I don't know that she really did enough for me, but by the end she was alright again. She helps Ryder and since I love him I can't help but forgive her as well.
This book definitely has a lot of ups and downs. It had moments that broke my heart into a million pieces. Moments that had me in tears, moments that ripped me apart. Moments that I was so angry, and moments that I was so happy. I had to stop reading at one point to eat dinner at a particularly sad part and my husband asked me about what I was reading. I couldn't even talk about it or I would have started crying. It just affected me a lot and after dinner I had to tell him to let me be for a bit because I needed to finish the story or I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about it. The ending almost made me cry because I was so happy for the characters. It was an emotional read for me for sure.
There is however one thing that I must mention that I did not like about the book. This story follows these kids from a young age into adulthood, only the writing didn't feel like that was the case. Especially when they are really young. I didn't really see a change from when Ava was eight and when she was eighteen. I felt like it was the same character, almost the same age from start to finish. So at the beginning it was hard to keep track of how old everyone was supposed to be as everyone felt older than they were. I loved this story, but the characters didn't actually grow up completely for me. Still an amazing read that I would highly recommend.
JM Sevilla is capable of making you feel the characters. Even when it is tough to endure.
I felt melancholy for the majority of this story. Almost the whole story made my heart ache. Normally I would not read such tales, preferring soft waves of romance to torrents of thrashing turmoil. However, I read the Marked series and the author’s other books and the lure to read another book by this author was too great.
In my view, this book is a masterclass in character development. It is a master class in ensuring characters evolve despite the reader’s desperate desire for respite.
Many times, I felt such anger or loathing that I couldn’t help but skip over some paragraphs. My heart was too much of a softie.
I really really despise Dakota. I have read some real whoppers of baddies, but reading about Dakota was hard. She didn’t evolve.
But, as with cycling uphill with aching legs and lungs, the view from the top was breathless. The downhill glide was too short, but the little bit of wind on your face made the climb a necessity.
One can read this as a standalone but to really appreciate the cameo appearances and the back story, I suggest reading the author’s other books.
I loved this book. Couldn't put it down. It brought me into the characters and I felt the pull of everything that went on in their lives. I'm sad to see it end. I want more 💞
So, quick story, I had an alarm set on my phone yesterday that reminded me of the release of the book. I literally screamed in excitement because I had forgotten (on purpose) that the book was coming out. I have a tendency to read cliffhangers because I really enjoy my excitement for the release of the next one!
I am about 55% of the way through the book so far, and I will update this when I am done.
This does contain some spoilers! Quick thing: I'm excited to have kids now after just reading half of this. That may sound weird, but all of the kids in this story are so different, I'm super excited to meet my own when we decide to have them!
There were some parts in this book that made you want to keep reading, but there were other parts that had you annoyed by the characters. Why do all the "couples" always have to have a bad time at one point? Isn't there another way to bring in an antagonist into the story? I wish the author would have kept the perspective from just Parker and Ava because it became too much to see everyone's perspective throughout. I did not like the flow at times between characters. There were many times I would be reading and have to go back because the author changed characters and I didn't know it. There were not spaces, stars, lines, new chapter, etc between character thoughts and viewpoints. This became confusing. This skipping around from perspective to perspective happened sometimes within two separate paragraphs, from maybe Parker talking about Violet, to all the sudden it was Violets perspective thoughts in the next paragraph. If this is to be done, then start off with who is talking by saying, "Violet gave him a long stare and....". Instead it would say, "She gave him a long stare and...". I would be like...who? Because Parker was just talking. I have known authors to use many characters perspectives, but usually not so close,and in another chapter and separated paragraph. This was one of the downfalls of this book. Also, this book could have been made into a series if the author didn't rush everyone's story into one. The first book could have been about Ava and Wes' relationship or Ava and Parker. Then Ryder's story could be another book. Too much in one book!
I read J M Sevilla’s Marked duology and thought that was all there was to the story. Fortunately the story didn’t end there; When to Let Go follows the intertwined stories of the Baxter triplets and their significant others as they grow up and learn about love, loss, and moving on with life. The book was particularly interesting because of how it would switch perspectives at a drop of a hat to tell a bit more of another main character’s story. I liked how this was done as it let you see each of the six main characters through the eyes of all the others at some point in the story. I found it helped the characterization and made each personality more distinct. While this book was a great read, I also found it a bit overwhelming at times. Because it follows three separate stories simultaneously, there is basically three times the amount of drama, angst and heartbreak to wade through compared to a regular story with two main characters.
Overall this was a great read that I’d recommend to people who have read the Marked duology. If you have not read it you probably will not get as much out of this book, even though it is self-contained and can be read independently.
There really is no way I could ever NOT read a J.M. Sevilla book ever again! Lily and Jay have been a favorite couple of mine ever since I picked up The Missing Link. To see their children live out their stories... it's a beautiful way to round out an amazing story. This book has A LOT of angst! I honestly felt my heart stuttering throughout most of the book because I was desperate to see things come to a resolution with these beautiful characters. I can honestly say that my first impression of this book was difficult because I was so frustrated with how these kids played out their lives, but after going back through and reading the deep emotions and experiences they go through, I fell in love with all of them.
This is definitely a book you will need to have a good length of time to read in peace because you won't want to stop! You will NEED to find out what happens next. I still can't get enough of Jay and Lily :)
I recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the Marked Series and wants more of this awesome family!
This is the story of the children of the characters in the Marked series; Lily & Noah's triplets and Stevie & Naomi's adopted children.
I know some readers will be put off by the writing style. Instead of a linear timeline, the author gives us a series of vignettes. These snapshots build to tell the stories of these young people as they grow through the awkward teenage years into adulthood. Some might accuse the author of being over-the-top with the tribulations these young people overcome, but remember, the narrative encompasses a decade or more of growing up.
I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style, feeling as though I was looking through a memory book for each character.
I have to say I got a kick out of the names the author chooses. Peter Parker, Lily Evans, Violet, Magnolia, Wesley - no Buttercup?
The writing style really draws me in which I love!
But...there are a number of issues that I hated
1 - Cheating - and yes there was cheating between Violet and Parker even if it was 'only kisses' 2 - I really liked Ryder and his story but Maggie + Ryder = boring! 3 - as for Wes and Ava....come on, give us readers some credit, we could see the 'best friend' turning into the OW waaaaay in advance which made me annoyed with Ava because she should have seen it coming or at the very least her actual BFF's (Maggie and Violet) should have seen it and helped Ava with her issues
Overall...average
I've come this far, might as well finish this series off...onto "Like a Fox"
I LOVED this book. I HATED this book equally. At about 80% through the book I tossed my kindle and declared I would write a nasty letter to the author about the terrible things she was doing to her characters. By the end of the book I was flying through pages and all giddy at how beautifully the story ended. I believe it's a sign of a great writer when they can sway the emotions of the reader so easily from one extreme to the next. Before you read this book, you have to read Marked 1 and 2. This book is about their kids so you wouldn't really get as much understanding about the characters as you will if you read those two first (plus they are AWESOME!).
Just freaking AWESOME! I spent whole night reading this amazing beautiful book! God, i loved it. This is the kind of book that makes you laugh, cry, hurt, and smile:) I loved all the characters, but..i loved WES and AVA. How they loved each other so much. Their realationship, and moments at the hammock! My favourite couple this year. Didn´t think anything could top Noah Baxter! Guess im gonna add Wesley Baxter to the best book boyfriend of 2015 I hope the author writes maybe a short story about the triplets again. Can´t say bye to them yet:D
I really enjoyed this story. I didn't realize when I bought it that it was a continuation of the Noah/Lily story from the Marked series. It was basically 3 short stories combined and a follow-up to the epilogue from the second book. Of the 3, I liked some more than others.....but they were all interesting and I enjoyed revisiting with old friends.
A beautiful story.Things weren't easy for Parker,Ryder,Wes,Violet,Maggie or Ava.This book had happy and sad moments which were all relevant to their journeys as they grew up and had to accept that life wasn't always easy.A lovely epilogue and I am glad they all stay true to their character and didn't change.I will read more from this author.
Just wow... but it doesn't feel like the ending to me it felt too rushed for the history we had with this family. Will we have an epilogue 1.5 book or a holiday themed book or anything of that sort? ?
The children from the Marked series. Most of the book they are teenagers with sex on their minds. The black moment is one of the blackest I have ever read in any book.Lots of transformations in this book.
I have enjoyed all the Baxter books immensely , but this one actually had me shivering! I rarely get that feeling and wow, the emotions were intense. Thank you JM Sevilla for the wonderful writing in this book.
