Martina Cole for teenagers in this gritty, chilling novel from a prize-winning author Charlie's brother Brad is always in trouble with the law, but it's minor stuff, usually—just messing around. Charlie blames their mother, for going off and leaving her and Brad and their Dad to fend for themselves. So when Brad is accused of killing a motorist with a well-aimed stone from a motorway bridge, Charlie is suspicious. It's just not Brad's style. When Charlie starts doing some investigating of her own she unearths a bigger, much worse secret, as well as discovering things about her brother, his best mate Denny, and her long-lost mother that turn her world upside down. In trying to prove her brother is not guilty, Charlie has lost her own innocence, for good.
Pretty good! * Brad was just such an idiot! * Denny just used everyone. Emily was completely right about him. * I felt sorry for Charlie's dad, it must be awful to keep having the police come to your door to arrest your son. I'm not surprised that he wished Brad was more like Charlie. * I don't quite understand why Charlie
I finshed this book in 1-2 days and it was really good! From when I first started this book I found it really interesting! The way it all adds up at the end is really good because the charactors in the story keep showing the newspaper storys and in the end they all add up to the people who you are unexpecting it to come too! I loved all the different charactors! I would recommend this book to teenage girls from the age of 12-15! I like how in the end it all goes well and everything becomes clear! I would like to read 'looking for JJ' which is also by Anne Cassidy!!
Charlie lives with her father and her brother Brad. One day, Brad is arrested for supposedly throwing a rock off a bridge. This caused an accident and a few injured people. Charlie is sure her brother's innocent and she starts making her own investigation. But sometimes, the truth is worse than the lie!
Once again, Anne Cassidy shows the impact of the justice on a family. Charlie is quite likeable if not naïve. The author knows how to keep the suspense going.
Well written and a good ending. I also liked the note from the author at the end explaining why she approached a crime story the way she did - exploring the consequences of crime and views of all those involved. As an adult reading the book i found it lacked a bit of depth but my daughter, who falls into the intended age bracket, enjoyed it.
