Thanks to Michelle Lee Murray for giving me this book to review

In the land of Mystica there were 6 wizards, three light and three dark, but Midnight, one of the dark wizards got to power hungry and accidentally trapped them all in stones. Centuries later a curious boy finds one of the stones and releases Midnight on Mystica. The only person who can find the light wizard Lightning, who can stop Midnight, is collage girl Miranda who has been dreaming of Mystica, but is she able to help in time?

The Dream Walker is an enjoyable light fantasy novella, which has a fairytale feel to it, as it has adventure, magic and a battle between good and evil. Saying that the characters are lacking in depth and I felt a distance from the story and I could not connect to it. Also I normally don’t notice grammar mistakes but the book has quite a few but with a few tweaks this book could be really good.

Miranda is a sweet and strong girl who I would have liked to learn more about, but she did accept everything very easily. The main secondary character is Walking Bear who is protective and never breaks a promise, and I thought he would Miranda’s love interest but he wasn’t, at least in book.

This is a short sweet book and I look forward to the next book The Dream Walker Returns. I would recommend The Dream Walker to fans of light fantasy novels.

The Dream Walker is a tale of a magical world called Mystica and many adventures happening to its residents.
We follow the character of Miranda, who is a Dream Walker. She is destined to save the world of Mystica when danger comes. She travels through the Plains of Mystica, The Forest of the Lost and Ice Caves.

I am not amazed by this book. I felt as if it was quite childish and predictable, simply too childish for a young adult book. It is as if the tales of Middle Earth and Westeros were combined with childish and poor writing.
The characters I found were not developed at all, and through dialogue, you could easily see they all had the same voice.
If this was a children's or a middle-grade novel I could get past all these faults, but since this is a self-called young adult book it bothers me very much.
There is one more thing I didn't like - the characters that were described as powerful and wise, the white wizard Lightning and the Goddess of the Sun, for example, ended up being quite unintelligent and incompetent. I rather disliked them.

I was sent this book by the the writer, Michelle Murray herself for an honest review.

What I must add is that I really hate the cover of this book! As much as we all deny it, we all judge the books by their covers.

I love fairy tales. I mean, what's not to like? You have wizards. Fantasy. Adventure. Magic.

What more could you ask for?

Murray hit all the high notes with The Dream Walker. This is a story based on a fantasy world - Mystica - that is quite easy to loose yourself in. And the reason is simple: this book reads like a fairy tale. I'm not kidding. Murray's use of language is what makes this book such a magical tale.

You want to believe in the wizards. The Darkness. Even the Gophers.

Remember how I told you this book reads like a fairy tale? The chapters are short but it works so well that I had to go back to see if I was remembering this correctly. Murray is able to keep that fairy tale read by using this technique.

And it works. Oh so well.

Overall, The Dream Walker Land of Mystica Series is a strong fantasy read. It was easy, and I would have no problems recommending this book to anyone with a love of mythical beings, magical worlds, Murray's writing is strong, easy to follow, and works almost too well for this genre.

My rating? Highly recommended. If you love fantasy like I do, pick this series up. You'll love it.

Miranda travels by dream to Mystica to help balance magic. I loved the imagery here. I could see it all work out in my mind. The magic of the words drew me in a set me on a course of discovery.

When it comes to a world of fantasy and magic where sword and sorcery takes hold, this is where it all starts. In this epic YA adventure, a dark wizard conjures up a black spell to trap his fellow wizards inside stones. A young boy Mortimer who lives in the land of Mystica finds one of these stones in a river and hides it, keeping it for himself. Because he didn't follow suit and turn it over to the Goddess as law requires, he in turn releases a dark wizard named 'Midnight' whom is bent on power and ruling the land.

A favorite place to be for children as they plummet into the pages of 'The Dream Walker', a well deserved mystical journey. A place in time from another world that envelopes dragons, wizards, and fairytale belief where strange powers corrupt to ignite a kingdom of good Vs evil. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to read the next installment in the 'Land of Mystica Series'.

I was given a copy for evaluation and an unbiased review.

World of fantasy is a strange world. It is the world where improbable becomes probable. It is the world where imagination and reality peacefully coexists and they live happily ever after. It is the world where magic and supernatural thrives- but always ultimately is used for the benefit of the good. And oh yes-I nearly forgot to mention in the land of fantasy the good always ultimately wins over the evil. That’s why the orphan girl gets the prince as his husband- the prince slew the demon to regain his kingdom. It is the world where a rabbit can easily speak-not only speak but put up some philosophical questions to put even a scholarly mind into jeopardy.
That is why we are all at absolute love with fantasy. We can observe our internal wishes to come alive in the story. That’s why fantasy stories did have a psychological appeal to the old and young alike and will probably continue to have towards the end of genesis.
From that viewpoint The Dream Walker (Land of Mystica series Volume 1) is a story as precious as a pearl. Not because every ingredients of a successful fantasy are present inside but also the author is a professional storyteller-she has to tell the story day and night to her two very young twins. Never the imagination of a mother can be bypassed by a professional writer who does not have the practical experience of venturing into the psychological kingdom of the young mind. That’s why people like J. K. Rowling always ultimately win.
We have enough of critical discussions. Let for the time being focus on the story. The story begins with enough suspense. A small boy- Mortimer-and a very curious too-living in the palace of the king of Mystica finds a stone-a black polished stone-as plain as a mirror-as black as a moonless night. At the first chapter we will not have any clue what the stone is all about. And it will not be unjust to say that for the later part of the story this boy will have very limited scope in building the story. This is another feature of the writing of Michelle is that she has created lots of characters –but most of them have very limited role in the development of the story. They just came like actors in a stage- performed their role-and then have their exits-and then never reappear again. The good effect of such a style is that it does not crumple the young mind with unnecessary complexity- straightforward characters give the mind the sheer joy of reading.
Again let us return to the main story. Writer took us to past days when there were wizards who controlled the land of Mystica. And one of the wizards became super powerful-started dreaming of controlling the other wizards and stole a spell book from the temple of the Sun God. But somehow he angered the god. Instead of controlling the magic power of the wizards-he found himself entrapped into a stone along with other wizards. And continued to remain so for days beyond count, till his soul was set free, by the little boy.
Immediately it became a concern for Mystica . The wise ruler started finding ways to combat with the situation. The wizard might not only create trouble for the administration. But also his boundless ambition can spell doomsdays for the throne. And found that Dream walkers can only set things right for the whole kingdom.
What is dream Walker? How can it solve his problem? While these questions were troubling the king, a simple down to earth girl Miranda was discovering a truth of herself that she started to feel. She discovered she is a keeper of an ancient magic and she is the abode of the problem of the king.
Journey does come as an almost inevitable part of most of the fantasy stories –and this story is not an exception. Miranda set out on a journey- with extraordinary creatures like walking bear-came across wonders and magnificent- and ultimately…….
Michelle had made writing seems to be a painting. Let us take an example from her journey
‘At a frozen waterfall that seemed out of place in the cave, Miranda stopped so suddenly, Walking Bear almost ran right into her. The waterfall seemed as if it was suspended in time. Its beauty and flawlessness awed them. Miranda felt tried and hungry. Yet, something about the waterfall drove her on. She lifted her axe from her side and started to pick at the wall behind the waterfall. She almost found guilty for destroying the beauty of the place. Walking Bear sat down on little edge next to the cave wall.’
Writer has a eye for minute details. Her narrations are simple yet ornate. And her creation of a wondrous world where myth, reality, legends all coalesces makes it a cherished treasure for the target age group.

When Mortimer picks up a stone he has no idea the power he has unleashed from a time in Mystica when wizards kept the balance of power over the land and there was an equal divide between good and evil.

Miranda is in class when she feels as though she is being called as someone needs help. Miranda then begins a journey in another time and place and must decide who is there to help her with her journey and who is there to stop her so she can help the King of Mystica.

I honestly had some trouble getting into the book and had to remind myself that it is a YA book. That being said I usually love YA. I found that I never got attached to any of the characters in the book and everything happened so fast that I felt like I was being forced along.

I liked the character of Miranda but felt like I didn't get to know her enough outside of the quest and therefore felt like she was just forced into the quest. I would have liked to know a bit more about her outside of what she was doing to save the King of Mystica.

The other characters were talked about but aside from Walking Bear I felt detached from most as it was a quick introduction and then they were gone. I would have definitely liked a bit more character development!

Hopefully the next books fill in more of the gaps!

*I won this book from a giveaway on here.*
I was intrigued from the start and couldn't put this down. This book was a fast and easy read! It was super short so the story had a light substance to it. The story is told in the third person and it skipped around a lot so it made it really difficult for me to connect with the characters. I would have loved for the author to take more time in developing Miranda so I could have built an attachment to her considering she's the main character. It succeeded in making me feel like I had a barrier between me and the book which is not fun. There were about a handful of grammar mistakes and it did get in the way a little bit. I'm sad to say I was left a little confused over some things too. It was also difficult to visualize this world. Which is a loss on its own since it seemed so beautiful from the glimpse I was able to get. Over all, I liked it more than I thought I would. This author definitely has lots of potential.

Michelle Murray is a magical author. I bought this book for my kids. They enjoyed reading it, however they felt they were a little mature for it. After reading it, myself, I give it 4 stars. This is a very imaginative tale about the fantastical land, Mystica. There was a lot of creativity that was put into this story and I could easily see kids between the ages of 9-12 really getting into this series. It is short and sweet, which makes it a great summer read. So, if you're looking for something to keep your kids brains going this summer, I strongly recommend this book. They will find wizards, battles, and other fantastical drama that will keep them entertained. I enjoyed the vision of the author and her easy writing style. I am excited to see that there are other books in this series. If your child loves this story, there are more for them to attach to.

I give this book 5 stars. Why 5 stars? because this is an awesome tale for children and teens. Kids love to read about magical worlds filled with wizards, dragons, and stars. I finished this book in 1 hour, and while I didn't enjoy the beginning of the chapter due to repetition, and long-winded description of each character - although the author was very articulate - I very much enjoyed the part where I felt the story started to develop with Miranda and her dreams. That's when the adventure began. I could relate with Miranda in so many ways. Her premonitions, her dreams, her love of books, being in a bookstore where she belonged, and her desire to help others. Miranda is a good role model for kids and young adults, and I'm sure they won't be able to put the book down. I will be reading the second book and the third...!

I really enjoyed the setting of this book and found it to be very mystical! Miranda is the main character and she keeps having this visions of another world. Her visions are very vivid and clear. I found that the author did a great job of describing the visions and made me feel as though I was there in the scenes. The author uses a lot of imagination in this story and that was one of the reasons why it was so great to read through. Miranda learns that she is a dream walker and goes to meet her calling. As she travels to Mystica, she realizes that she is the only one who can save it. I liked the aspect of a female heroine and found it exciting to read through. I will be reading more from this series!

This book is really written for maybe young teen not young adult. Although the main character is a college student, the writing was very simplistic. Storyline was also rather simplistic. I did love the characters and the world the author created.
Miranda has just discovered her dreams werent really dreams and she has powers that she is going to have to use to save others with. I do like that she is a genuinely good person, and is willing to drop everything to go save people in need without a 2nd thought. I am looking forward to the next book if nothing else to see where things go. I do not like (yes Ive said this before) books that just end. I think a book should end/ This is one of those that isnt just a cliffhanger, its isnt complete.

Boundless imagination: What a wonderful, magical tale. Mystica is an amazing place of intrigue and imagination. Wizards trapped in stones and an overly curious boy setting off a war to threaten the entire kingdom… A girl with strange powers of dream and premonition… We traverse the lands in anticipation of who or what are we going to meet next. Evil or nice? Pleasant or grumpy? This terrific story for children and youths builds steadily to a powerful climax and wholesome resolution. The ending tantalises with the promise of more to come. More of these interesting and cleverly crafted tales would be most welcome!

I really loved the story, it has everything a fantasy story should have, a hero that slowly discovers her powers, a journey, a battle, magical creatures, a forest, dragons, a king…
I loved it, and I read it in one day, that is a giant accomplishment for me, having a toddler, a house to run, pets to feed and books to write.
As I said the story was amazing, Miranda, the main character, is a sweet and smart girl learning about all this magic that she possesses and doesn’t hesitate when she has to leave everything, even if temporally, to go help the ones calling for her help.
I honestly can not wait to know how the story continues.

When strange dreams start to plague Miranda, she goes to a local shop known for potions to help students sleep. What she discovers there changes her life dramatically.

She's a Dream Walker, someone who can be reached through dreams in times of need, and Mystica is in dire need of her help when an evil wizard, Midnight, is awakened from his slumber and wreaks havoc on the land.

A fast paced fantasy that keeps moving, The Dream Walker is a thrill ride. On the short side, it's a quick read that would be perfect for younger readers.

The Dream Walker is a light and fast-paced fantasy novel. This reminds me of my childhood, magical creatures and fairy tales.

I like this book, I got into it easily. Wizards are trapped in a stone for a long time. Miranda is a dream walker. I really thought that Walking Bear would be a love interest of Miranda. Murray’s writing is great, she built a beautiful world. But this world needs more glitters and fairy dusts. In addition, there are a lot of grammatical errors that can disturb you while reading the book.

If you’re into fantasy novels, you should try this. I’m looking forward for the next book!

Midnight wants to rule the land, but to do so he has to get rid of the other wizards. He gets lucky and finds a spell, but it backfires and it traps him along with every other magical creature. Only a dream walker can release them. Will the dream walker ever be found to release them?

I truly loved this story. I thought it was adorable. On one hand, I feel like I'd of preferred it in first person because I got a little confused with sudden character switches. On the other, I think it was great he way it was. I think it's a great story for people of all ages to enjoy. I fully recommend it and can't wait to read the rest of them!

This captivated me from the beginning! I couldn't give it 5 stars because of the grammatical errors I found through out the story but I did find the plot interesting and magical! Follow the story's characters in a fantasy world called Mystica filled with dragons, magic, and wizards!
Interesting characters, a quick read (I love these because it makes me feel like I can read so many novels in such a short amount of time), and good storytelling all wrapped up into one! I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys a young adult fantasy.

When I began reading this book, I had no idea I’ll be in the story too. I finished it in one day and I was intrigued to know more about the ‘Dream Walker’. The girl, Miranda shows a normal girl who relies on her heart and her soul more than her mind and that is what leads her to her destiny. More people should do that in their lives.
I’d love to read more detailing about the characters in the next book. I loved reading this… It was interesting and fast paced and kept your fingers restless to turn the page.
If you don’t have a copy, get it now..

I love the magical world and lands that Michelle Murray has created, the thought-out characters and the situations that give rise to both development and plot. A quick read that took me less than a day to get through, The Dream Walker is very good for passing away time between customers at work. Something a young teen/kid would enjoy reading (or a 25-year-old, let's be honest here). I loved Miranda, I loved Mystica and I LOVED Walking Bear!
A great fantasy read for lovers of Narnia, Oz or Harry Potter, with nothing short of a magical effect on the reader!
Looking forward to #2!

This book is not like anything I've ever read AND is a quick read - two things I'm always looking for. Could use a round of editing but overall well written and the characters are quite likable - and they, like the story are unique. I was gripped instantly and while the story seemed a bit complicated it was written in a way that was very easy to follow. I enjoyed the point of view switch up as well.

This book was amazing! I absolutely loved it! My favorite part of the whole book was the ice caves, ice people, forest of the lost and the forest people. There is just something so beautiful and magical about both places that makes me want to crawl in the book and live with both of them! A definite must read especially if you love wizards, elves, forest people, ice people, wizards and magical worlds!

The Dream Walker is an easy read for teens and young adults. It's an enjoyable and light read. Like all good fantasy novels, it has all the magical creatures such as wizards, dragons, magical forests and a heroine with magic powers. The plot and conversations are light and easy to follow. I would recommend it to young readers of Fantasy Adventure books.

It was an interesting story. In my opinion, I feel this is a story for someone in the grammar school age bracket. There were some grammatical errors and a few sentences which weren't formed correctly but an enjoyable read for a youngster.

This book displays a lot of creative energy, something I love to see in fantasy books. The land of Mystica—particularly the Plains, the Forest of the Lost, and the Dragon’s Lair—is beautiful and boasts a complex variety of peoples, histories, and cultures. The plot also gives the book a lot to work with, although I would say that its basic essence is pretty much a cookie-cutter plot. Still, I think that Murray has created a world with which she can really capture the reader’s attention and keep it until the very end.

Unfortunately, I think that the writing itself could use some more work. I spotted numerous proofreading errors, including spelling and grammatical errors. This issue is an easy fix, really; all that needs to be done is some more thorough proofreading and editing. The issue—which may not even be an issue to other readers—is that the writing style is more of a storytelling style.

While I believe that “show, don’t tell” is to be taken with a grain of salt, I would have preferred that Murray had used more “show” in her narrative. She does have many wonderful descriptions, such as the purple grass of the Plains, and some unnecessarily detailed ones, such as Midnight’s process in casting the spell to trap the other wizards, but I still think that more detail would have been nice. Murray’s world is so vibrant and intriguing, I just wanted to see more of it.

Of course, the storytelling style could work well for younger readers, perhaps those at the middle grade level. Some of the plot points and histories are a little more complex than this age group usually reads, but I think that the storyteller-feel of the narration would be better received and appreciated by those who have not yet entered high school.

The storytelling does have two perks: I read the 154 pages much quicker than I had expected, and Murray was able to hint at future plot points which the reader would not have seen in a more “showing” narrative style.

Overall, The Dream Walker by Michelle Murray is an imaginative start to an interesting series, and I look forward to seeing what else Murray has in store for Miranda. Fantasy fans will really like it, especially younger readers, but I think that adults would enjoy this quick read as well.
