Bruce and his wife, Darlene, have three children and six grandchildren. They live outside Atlanta.
I found myself going through a rather depressing time and when my eye caught The Prayer Of Jabez Devotional by Bruce Wilkinson, my hand instinctively reached out and picked up the book. I always read to escape and I was in desperate need of escape and what better way than reading the prayer of Jabez.
The prayer of Jabez is based on the scripture 1 Chronicles 4 verses 9 – 10 ‘Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from the evil one.” And God granted his request. (NIV)
I have read some other reviews on this book and I believe them to be unfair. This is not a quick fix book. There is no recipe in there to follow a certain number of steps and God will make you rich – it doesn’t work like that! Not once does this book insinuate that this is a get rich quick book so I am not sure how the other readers got to that conclusion.
This is a book which will provide you with guidelines to walk a lifelong path with God. The book is well-written and easy to understand. Throughout the book the author uses scenarios to explain certain feelings and emotions we encounter and I had to smile to myself, as there were a few scenarios which seemed that it came directly out of my life. The lessons taught in this book are biblical and it is written to encourage the reader to grow in both their relationship and in their walk with God.
So, if you are looking for something ‘uplifting’ to read, and you are ready to stretch your faith muscles, this book is for you.
I need to get into a mindset of abundance rather than scarcity so I was reading this devotional. I liked the first few chapters but then it became a prosperity focused, money hungry animal and that turned me off of the devotional.
I would just like to say about this book that you read 1 chapter per day for 31 days and write in a journal about what your instructed to write about plus whatever else you'd like. I bought the jabez journal to use with this journal but it's ok to just use a plain notebook of your choice. Also it's the type of devotional you can do over and over because your going to change as a person as each month and year goes by in your life. The video the gift of jabez on YouTube is by Questar video and I recommend it to to learn what this is all about even the the video is not connected to this author or book series, it's a great video.
I enjoyed reading The Prayer of Jabez when the book first came out. This devotional is a great companion read. Lots of good stuff in it. Things to ponder, great journaling questions, quotes to go with the day's lesson. Bruce Wilkinson has a wonderful way of helping you make sense of the scripture and its application in your life. I would highly recommend.
This book was such a blessing to me—truly arriving at just the right time. God’s timing is always perfect! It’s short and practical, yet incredibly enlightening and transformational. I’m excited to start praying the Jabez prayer regularly and watch how God moves. The four simple components have the power to reshape your prayer life. Bruce Wilkinson really knocked it out of the park with this one!
This book can be read over and over again and every read will be like the first. An easy but powerful way to keep focused on the simplicity of a honest prayer that God will have no choice but to listen to and honor.
So exciting to think what I could accomplish for God! I will reread this many times over. Praying the Jabez prayer not because of what God can do for me, but because I've fallen short of what I can do for His Kingdom.
Excellent devotional book in follow-up to the Prayer of Jabez book. 31 days of breaking down Jabez’s small but mighty prayer and how to apply it to our own lives. I highly recommend purchasing The Prayer of Jabez Journal to go along with it like he suggests on Day 1.
We do well to remember, before we consign the concept of spiritual leadership to the arena of the susperstar, that we serve a God who invaded this planet as a small fragile baby.
Quick read yet powerful message. The book is about Jabez's prayer. The key of turning the person with the name means painful to be person that being glorified among his brother (honorable man)
(1)Oh, that You would bless me; It's okay to ask God bless us, He tells us doing so
(2)and enlarge my territory! More impact, it's God's will and our readiness. Sometime we think that we are so full with service and religious things and afraid to expand our territory. It's when we look at our limitless being and not to unlimited God's power and resources. Believe in God and ask His resource to enlarge your territory
(3)Let your hand be with me; Ask God's help, He is more than willing to help you with all problem you have because of the previous 2
(4)and keep me from harm; Well when our territory is being enlarge, whose territory is actually reduced and given to us? Evil territory, that's why we need to ask God to keep us from any harm caused by evil.
I am honestly want to experience it. Let's start pray!
Four weeks of devotional studies. Often times we box God in. "Oh God would never do that for me." "I am a nobody and God would not have any big plans for my life." "I think God just wants me poor and sick, so He can teach me some things." These statements are far from the truth! In God there are no limits to His power and to the abundance we can have in Him! He doesn't want sick, poor and weak followers! We are to be kings and priests in Him, living a joyful, full and abundant life! Week one: "O Lord Bless Me Indeed." Week Two: "O Lord, Enlarge My Borders!" Week Three: "O Lord, Put Your hand Upon me." Week Four: "O Lord Keep me From Evil." Epilogue: Celebrating The Jabez Miracle. This book was really good!
The Prayer of Jabez: Bible Study by Bruce Wilkinson (Multnomah Books 2001) (242.722). The prayer itself is simple and sweet. How ironic that a for-profit church leader ruined it by one of the two methods of profiting from a relationship with a church: by writing a book. I personally prefer the second method, for I find that the more honest of the two charlatans is usually the one who preaches prosperity gospel. I much prefer to have my pocket picked by the Reverend Ike; at least with him you know what you're getting up front. My rating: 3/10, finished 2001.
I think it was interesting however it seemed you would need the prayer of Jabez plus it wanted you to buy the prayer of Jabez journel and keep track of each of the devotions . I picked this up at a thrift store and wasnt interested in grabbing a ton of other devotionals to figure this one out. I did read it despite these things but found it would have been better written as the devotional and journal together with perhaps a devotion then the journal entry so you didnt have to go buy it.
This book will show you have to have a blessed life through God. God has an abundant supply blessing for us. He can meet every need we have, even the small ones. Such as getting a date! (It's in the book!) Learn how to increase your life, your blessings and what God put you in places to do great things for Him. Really great book!
I read this books years ago and when someone at the Church suggested that it was something we might be interesting in doing as a prayer team, I enthusiastically read it again! And I am jazzed! I plan to read it once a week over the next month as well, out loud for my husband who is going through a non-book-reading phase (although he does read 5 newspapers a day).
The Prayer of Jabez Devotional: Breaking Through to the Blessed Life Wilkinson, Bruce H. an odd book showing that prayer will save you. I am not sure what the point of the book is other than teaching a prayer
This has short daily readings that work great for devotional time. Some days I have time for more than one reading. I only have few more days and this will be finished, but I am sure it will be 're-read sometime in the future.
