"From 1866 to 1871 William Marcy Tweed's notorious organization - The Tweed Ring- plundered New York City of money in astonishing amounts. This book is an intriguing study of large-scale graft and the rogues who perpetrated it."
Reading The Tweed Ring by Alexander B. Callow, Jr. and the similarities to current events struck me as well. The downfall of the Ring was due to "leakers."
Spoiler alert: However, after extensive investigation of fraud, few conspirators were jailed. To date, there were more convictions from the Mueller investigation.
