Journalist Phoebe Chadwick needs to persuade her editor to spare her from department cuts that threaten her job. When a mysterious stranger prevents an accident that would have killed her and many others, Phoebe goes after the story. Darkly gifted and dangerously skilled, they were once the nation's most powerful asset. Betrayed by unknown enemies, unable to trust anyone--not even one another--the Phoenix hold the key to unmasking a conspiracy steeped in blood and fire. To survive, they'll have to solve . . . The Phoenix Code.

Narrated by Eric G. Dove

Cut by Lara Adrian

Ethan Jones is a precognitive agent known as Zephyr, when he receives word the that special program he works for is compromised, he must turn his back on the one good thing that has ever come into his life, Tori. Tori is assuming the worst and mourns the loss of Ethan, until a few years down the road she comes face to face with him, bleeding and running away again.

A hundred questions are running through her mind, and what better way to get answers than to do it while healing the man who broke your heart. Ethan has no choice but to carefully select the answers he gives Tori, not wanting her to be a target for the assassin who is after him.

Knowing their time is limited, they indulge in the "goodbye" that they should have had all those years ago... but when the time comes can they really just walk away from what they have ??? One thing is for sure, in order to stay alive he needs to find the rest of the Phoenix and work as a team instead of it being the solo mission it started out to be.

Run by Tina Folsom

It's been years of hiding and Scott Thompson, aka Ace, has a vision that he has no choice but to intervene. It should have been an in & out mission, but nothing prepared him for Phoebe.

Just his luck the enticing little lady is a reporter, and a save this big comes with all the attention he doesn't need and even if he was able to sneak away from the crime scene mostly unseen, it doesn't stop the people from wondering about their Hero. Pheobe is nothing but efficient, and using her sources and information only she knows, she is able to track down the man and demand some answers, lord knows she needs it to save her job.

When it's clear that Pheobe isn't going anywhere and the safest place for her to be is by his side, he has to decide to stand and fight and protect his stubborn reporter.

Cut and Run introduces us to two elite men who has a very special gift of the psychic ability. Each story taking us from before the betrayal to living a hunted life. It's sexy, fast paced and action packed. While living a life on the run there is no time for delays or second guesses, you gotta go with your gut and make quick decisions. Each couple and story has it's own obstacles, but I did love how the stories intertwine, getting a gage where the story could go. While their stories have a sense on conclusion, they are both pieces to one big puzzle.

This was my first "adult" audiobook and I have to say, I didn't particularly care for the narrator's "female" voice, especially during the more intimate moments. It felt off, and it distracted me at times. All in all it was a really good story, one that I enjoyed and look forward to see where it will all lead.

Audible copy kindly provided by the author, in exchange for an honest review.

A group of men with the gift of premonition are up against an unknown threat. This brand new series is called the Phoenix Code and is written by Lara Adrian and Tina Folsom in two novellas that are rife with action, suspense and emotion.

As a longtime fan of Adrian, I knew that I wanted to read this new series. But this style of book is nice because you also get to try other authors as well. In this case, Folsom was a new-to-me author and I discovered that I really enjoyed her writing style.

CUT is Adrian’s story involving Ethan Jones and Tori Conners. Ethan has found a happy place with Tori in his life, but when a signal comes in telling him that he must drop everything and run, he does so, leaving Tori to wonder what went wrong in their relationship.

Years later when Ethan is being chased down by a killer, he meets Tori again and it puts her in grave danger now that the killer knows her identity. Fast-paced with a killer amount of emotion, Adrian definitely shows that she is able to conquer any genre she writes in.

Tina Folsom’s story is just as riveting and suspenseful, reminding me of the classic Superman tale. Scott Thompson is a mechanic turned reluctant hero when he gets a vision of a school bus packed full of children are trapped on some train tracks with a train speeding towards them. If he doesn’t act, they will all die, so Scott does the impossible saving all the kids as well as Phoebe Chadwick, who is actually a journalist standing in for a teacher. Phoebe has found her biggest story yet and she never would’ve believed that she would be in the middle of it but it makes for a very fun story.

I have to give both stories a thumbs up. They were well-written, perfectly placed and provided a couple hours of entertainment when I needed it most. I’ll definitely be looking forward to the rest of the series.

Buddy read with Aly and Ange

As a huge fan of Lara Adrian I was really excited when I found out that she was starting a new series and I couldn't wait to read Cut and Run. I've never read anything by Tina Folsom before but thought this would also be a great way to try out a new author and hopefully add a whole new bunch of books to my to read mountain. Unfortunately although I think the Phoenix Code series has a lot of potential it didn't quite live up to my (admittedly high) expectations, I didn't hate the book but there were things about both stories that had me ready to throw my kindle across the room. I think both stories would have probably worked better for me if they were full length novels rather than novellas, that way we could have had a little more depth and build up to each of the relationships and I think that could have completely erased most of my issues.

The first story is Cut by Lara Adrian, it introduces us to College Professor, and undercover member of Phoenix a top secret paranormal group working for the CIA, Ethan and his long term girlfriend Tori. The couple have been dating for a year and are practically living together when Ethan receives an emergency alert telling him that Phoenix has been compromised and he must run for his life. Ethan walks out on Tori without a word leaving her completely devastated, she spends months searching for him, even checking with hospitals because she's worried something dreadful happened to him. Skip forward three years and their paths cross by accident when Ethan is in the middle of trying to escape from an assassin. The assassin sees him with Tori and now her life is in danger unless Ethan can protect her. I think I could have really liked Ethan if he'd shown more remorse for breaking Tori's heart. I understood why he'd had to leave and to a point I even understood why he didn't want to tell her what was going on because he didn't want to put her in danger, however I needed to see more grovelling for forgiveness on his part. I lost all respect for Tori when she forgave him pretty much within 10 minutes of him walking back into her life. She's spent three years miserable because of him and she forgives him so quickly? It just wasn't believable to me. Especially when she finds out that he had been lying to her and keeping secrets throughout the whole of their relationship. I think if they'd taken more time to get to know each other again and Ethan had made more of a show of apologising I would probably have been able to get on board with their relationship but the novella happened too quickly and it dulled my enjoyment of the story.

Run by Tina Folsom started off better, the hero Scott has precognitive abilities and he has a vision showing him the murders of a school bus full of innocent children. He knows that by helping them he risks exposing himself to the enemies who are trying to kill him but he couldn't live with himself if he didn't at least try to save them. Phoebe is a reporter who happens to be on the bus and she is rescued by Scott and even though Scott left the scene without giving anyone his contact details when her boss wants a story on the reluctant hero of the hour Phoebe becomes determined to track him down. Scott and Phoebe have great chemistry and I could get on board with the two of them falling in lust very quickly but it didn't make much sense that Phoebe would be so willing to drop everything in her life to go on the run with him. Their relationship moves from lust to love far too quickly and again I struggled to believe the connection between them. My other main issue with this couple (although this could be said for Ethan and Tori too!) was the fact that they are running for their lives from an unknown but powerful enemy who is trying to kill them yet they're willing to skip the condom when they jump in bed together. Not because Phoebe was on any other birth control but because Scott has a vision of them with children in their future. I'm sorry but it's not a good idea to risk making a baby with a guy you've known for 2 whole days and it's even more ridiculous that both couples seem willing to bring children into a mess where they have assassins chasing them. Who is going to babysit when they're off fighting for their lives?

I think that because Lara Adrian is one of my favourite authors I go into her books with incredibly high expectations and that's probably part of the reason for my disappointment with Cut and Run. I probably over thought some of the issues with these stories but when one thing about a book really annoys me I do tend to find that other smaller things bug me more than usual. I didn't hate this book and I do think the series has a lot of potential. I love the idea of the Phoenix group, I'm intrigued by the vision that Scott and Ethan seem to share and I'm very curious to see how they manage to track down the rest of the team. I think the overreaching plot is going to be a really interesting one and I'm hoping that the issues I had with these two stories won't carry over into the next book. I am definitely planning on buying Hide and Seek when it releases next year and I'm hopeful that the series will just get stronger with every book.

REVIEW:
WOW!!! Where to start?
So anyone that follows me or my blog knows that I love Lara Adrian and her books. So when I had the chance to read Run and Cut, I jumped on it. And I am so glad I did. Not only did I get a great new story from Lara, but I found a new author in Tina Folsom. These two have teamed up to give us a great new series. The Phoenix Code takes us into the secret world of the our government.

CUT:
Book one in The Phoenix Code series.
We meet Ethan Jones & Tori Connors.
Ethan has been living a lie, but the feeling he has for Tori are not a lie. But when the call comes Phoenix Down, Ethan knows that life as he has known it is over for good. Ethan’s only choice is to walk away from Tori and never look back. On the run from an assassin that last thing that Ethan ever expected was to run into Tori. Ethan tries to walk away from Tori but she won’t let him. Not this time. No matter what threat is after them Tori won’t walk away

I just loved Ethan. He is all tough and soft at the same time. These two are great for each other.

RUN:
Book two in The Phoenix Code series.
We get to meet Scott Thompson & Phoebe Chadwick.
Scott is an ex-phoenix agent and has been keeping his head down for the last three years. But when he sees a bus load of kids murdered he knows he has to do something. Two things Scott never counted on. One: Phoebe Chadwick. Two: everyone having camera’s on their phones with trigger happy fingers.

Scott and Phoebe are great. I loved that Phoebe challenges and outsmarts Scotts more than once.

I really loved seeing Ethan & Scott come together and realize that there maybe more Phoenix Code survivors. But finding their fellow Phoenix’s maybe a challenge. But a challenge that they are all for. I really loved these story. I am so excited and very nervous to see what is up next in this series.

REVIEW:
I loved this book! I've read paranormal romance books by both Lara Adrain and Tina Folsom and was really excited when I saw this book pop up on my Facebook newsfeed. Both authors are amazing and write hot romances with great alpha heroes. Together they created an amazing series. Cut & Run is a romantic suspense with a slight paranormal edge. The men in a top secret CIA program have preternatural abilities and when the program is betrayed the team has to go on the run. Each story in this book is about a different team member and the series will continue. Cut & Run is full of action, suspense, intrigue and steamy romance. I couldn't put it down. It's fast paced and each story is a quick read, but the stories still felt complete. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book and read stories about the other team members. This was a hot romantic suspense and I highly recommend you grab a copy.

Two stories by different authors joined by one story arc. Really well written pieces.

The idea of the book is that there was a unit within CIA which comprised of people with premonition gift. They crossed the wrong people (maybe) and the program was closed, head of the program was killed and operatives scattered. But they all are hunted by someone who organized a killing of the head of the Phoenix program. And these stories are about each operative - how they live, find companions and use their gift to thwart death: theirs and their women's.

I love both of these authors and couldn't wait to dig into it. I was totally into it. I love the concept and the both couples were woven seamlessly. So love the fact that Ethan and Scott have a different part of the premonition. The female leads were a good match for both of the guys. I can't wait for the next book. It's hard for me to write a review without giving away spoilers. Suffice it to say you will not be disappointed! Go and buy this book!

Two stories by different authors, but linked. I couldn't really tell a difference between the two, felt like they were both written by the same person. Both were filled with lots of action, had the girl the hero couldn't leave behind. I liked learning about Phoenix project, what they did, but hated that it was lost. It was nice when Ethan and Scott finally caught up to each other and could talk. It will be interesting what these guys do next to find more of their own.

“PHOENIX DOWN”

Cut and Run by Lara Adrian and Tina Folsom

What a fabulous joint venture between Lara Adrian and Tina Folsom. I knew this would be a great read. It takes two very strong Authors to pull something like this off. These two ladies are two of my favorite authors and I’ve read their other works.

So where to begin without giving too much up?

First read “Cut” is Lara Adrian’s and she sets up what the remainder of this series will be about. I want to say military but that’s not quite right, so how about covert top secret CIA program consisting of pre-cogs. Lots of intrigue, suspense, thriller and even some romance thrown in. Lara’s characters are Ethan Jones a college professor , and Tori Connors an ER Doctor. Dating for a year Ethan is falling for Tori, he knows this can never work but he continues with their relationship living his life of deception. Until one morning when he receives the psychic call “Phoenix Down” and knows he has to run leaving everything and everyone behind. His life depends on him going to ground. On the run for three years trying to stay ahead of the assassins sent to kill him, as fate would have it he runs into his one weakness Tori Connors. The assassin is close on his tail and he has to keep Tori safe at all cost. After divulging everything to her they are now a team and both running for their lives. Lara’s story takes Ethan back to a place he kept buried and he has to confront his childhood once again. But there was a really pleasant and surprising twist albeit a little late when he sees his father again. I was glad how that scene played out giving Ethan the chance he needed to take down the assassin. Sad what happened to his Dad. But as the saying goes better late than never. Back on the run Ethan and Tori set out to try and find out who gave the orders and who wants this elite group of operatives dead.

Second Part of the read “Run” is Tina Folsom’s and she introduces Scott Thompson, an orphan adopted by the man who headed “The Phoenix Code”. Scott was rather laid back, a motorcycle mechanic who also was an agent who had special abilities, and pretty much stayed to himself. He knew that when the psychic call went out by his father, his father was dead.
When Scott had a premonition of a school bus being hit by a train he knew he had to try and stop all those children and the teacher from being killed. He’s been pretty lucky up to this point. Not bringing any attention to himself, but when he arrives on the scene of the school bus within minutes if it being hit by the train and rescues the kids and what he thought was their teacher he exposed himself not knowingly to the media. The kids using their cell phones took pictures of their hero and he was splashed all over the news. He finds out on the scene that Phoebe Chadwick is not a teacher but a reporter who was chaperoning the field trip in place of the teacher. Amongst all the chaos and trying to avoid the reporter on the scene he high tails it out of there. But not before he felt a connection to Phoebe. Something in his gut when he pulled her from the bus and was cradling her in his arms just felt right and he felt like he could trust her. But she was a reporter and that’s something he could not afford right now. I loved the way Phoebe tracked him down but she did make some pretty deadly mistakes that could have cost Scott his life and hers for that matter. When Scott has a premonition concerning Phoebe he knew he could not leave her behind. These two are perfect for each other. When you read this part you’ll understand what I’m talking about. Now I have to admit when the assassin caught up with Phoebe I was holding my breath when she was telling him Scott was not in Nashville but here. I was thinking, what in the hell is she doing. That was a little tense for me.

In “Run” Ethan and Scott eventually do meet up and that was a little intense. I swear I thought Scott was going to kill him. But when all was said and done I was so glad they connected and are going to try and find the rest of their team. They figured out they needed their team to decipher the dreams they both have been having. Seems like it’s similar but from a different angle and they needed the other pieces from their team. It was also nice they connected so now they are not alone in this venture.

Just a side note, the two female characters Tori and Phoebe are a very special breed in my eyes. It takes special women to fall in love with and be able to support and understand men like Ethan and Scott. Kudos Lara and Tina you did a fab job.

CUT by Lara Adrian
3 stars

Tori thought she had the love of her life, but when Ethan disappears one morning she's devastated. When Tori runs into Ethan 3 years later she wants answers but she's not sure she can trust anything Ethan says. Ethan was an agent in the covert government Phoenix Group that uses psychically gifted people to prevent terrorist attacks. However, when the group is burned and all the agents go into hiding, Ethan is forced to leave Tori behind. He's been on the run ever since and he doesn't want Tori to end up in danger because of him. I loved the concept of the psychic agent covert group and how all these agents are on the run after they get burned. This book was mostly action and the reuniting of Tori and Ethan but it sets up the beginning of the Phoenix agents getting back together. Though Ethan's immediate problem is resolved, the overall mystery of what happened to the Phoenix Group is left unanswered. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about Ethan, since he's hiding his true identity from Tori and knows he'll have to leave her at any second. But I did end up liking him as you understand how his feelings grew for Tori and how in reality, Ethan long ago pushed away his "real" identity and his hurtful past. I did feel like Tori forgave Ethan really quickly after they met again but the book is only about 135 pages so there really wasn't space to drag it out.

2 stars

Scott was a part of the Phoenix Program before it all went down and he's been hiding out ever since. But he was more than just an agent, he was the adoptive son of the Program creator and he feels that loss keenly. Phoebe is a journalist about to lose her job if she doesn't do something to impress her Editor in Chief. When she and the kids she's chaperoning are almost killed, she's stunned to be saved by a mysterious motorcyclist who seemed to know exactly what to do. But when he runs and refuses to talk about himself, Phoebe becomes suspicious. I struggled a lot more with this one for several reasons. First, there was something about the writing that just didn't work well for me. It was super descriptive in some areas, especially the bedroom scenes, and I found myself skimming most of them toward the end. I did like Scott's character and I really felt for him in regards to losing his father. You could tell he was still affected by that loss even after 3 years. However, I didn't really like Phoebe because she came across as really one-dimensional and a bit stereotypically. I know that the characters are supposed to have insta-love but they fall into bed together really fast and in a way that just doesn't make sense. Phoebe also gets angry at all the "right" moments that a woman is supposed to get angry and she had very little background development compared to Scott. The assassin in this one was also terrible; he came across as a caricature of what an evil assassin is supposed to be. He was way too emotional and seemed to be taking the assignment personally which is the exact opposite of hired killers.

Lara and Tina kick off the first installment of their Phoenix Code series with a two-in-one book; each contributing a long novella/short novel. This book was an enjoyable read but I think I had such high expectations, that I couldn't help but be slightly disappointed overall. I got this book because I have recently completed Lara’s Midnight Breed novels (which I devoured), read her contribution to the Masters of Seduction series and wanted to try another book/series by her. I will most likely continue to read this series (the next book) when it comes out, but it won’t be the first on my to-read list.
The larger series is a paranormal (ESP/Precognition) thriller following a group of former special agents three years after their group was disbanded. There is someone sending assassins after these former agents and they have to decide if love is worth the risk of their lives and the lives of those they have fallen in love with.

Lara started the book off with her story CUT, staring Ethan, an ex-special CIA agent & Tori, a nurse. I enjoyed how Lara’s male lead was relatable as a hero character and that his main driving force was a desire to do what is right for Tori, even if that meant leaving her at the beginning of the story. The part that was harder for me to buy into was how fast Tori could believe the outlandish story Ethan told her (when he shows back in her life after years) and even if she believed his strange story so easily why was she so willing to forget the lies of the past and trust everything he says now.

Tina’s story RUN closed the book and gave a much bigger picture of the how the authors are going to be able to tie the series together as a whole. This story focuses on Scott, who has been living as a mechanic, and Phoebe who is trying to keep her job as a newspaper journalist. After a just-in-time rescue by Scott of Phoebe and some children the story focused on what the special CIA program had been and how the other agents, future stories, might fit in. One criticism I found with this story, and with a lot of these types of short stories, is the compressed time frame the author gave the couple. I would have liked the author to create some passage of time, more than the two days this story covers, so at the end of the story you feel like these characters talked and got to know each other, even if we don’t get to see all that development, so when they get to the end of their adrenaline rush they will have a reason to still stay, together, in love.

Overall I enjoyed the story and would give in 3.5 starts. It was something I had fun reading, will keep a copy around in my library for now, but I was able to read it over several days and most likely won’t be picking it up for a re-read in the near future.

This book is two books in one, based around some men, but there not any normal men they have the gift of premonition and they are called the Phoenix Code.

Cut is written by Lara Adrian,
Ethan Jones has made a life for him self with the beautiful Tori Conners but he is forced to cut all ties to his life with her because the phoenix program has been betrayed and it isnt safe any more.

while on the run Ethan bumps back into Tori again, this is one thing he never expected to happen. he tries not to fall for her again and tries to walk away but Tori is to strong minded to let that happen again, No matter what the danger she knows what she wants and she is determined to get it.

Run is written by Tina Folsom

Scott Thompson formally known as Ace likes everyone to think he is laid back but he isn't. he was once apart of an elite group of men in the CIA. but now what once made him an essential part of the group could down be his downfall.

Phoebe Chadwick is on the verge of loosing her job and has to try hard to persuade her boss to not pay her off. She goes after a man that saves her life hoping that the story might save her job.But Scott isn't to happy about being the centre of Phoebes story no matter how hot she makes him feel. Scott has to decide how he feels about Phoebe and has to decide what he is willing to risk to keep her safe.

Now I'm a big fan of Lara's but I will admit to not being keen on the idea of two books in one,and I'm not a big fan of ebooks. But having said that I was pleasantly surprised at how much I did really enjoy it. it was nice to read because as I say I'm a big fan of Lara's work but also because it was nice being introduced to a new author I probably would never of looked at. both story's were really well written and I think its going to be a series that I'm going to get into. I also think that if the rest of the hero's are like the ones in this book I'm going to be weak at the knees by the end of the series. I will be looking for more books by Tina because I think she could become another author who I become addicted to very quickly.

What a great way to start an exciting new series!
The Phoenix program was a secret government ESP program with agents who have precognitive visions.
In the first novella - Cut by Lara Adrian - Ethan Jones is a Phoenix agent living as a college professor with his girlfriend, Tori Connors. When Ethan receives a psychic message warning him that the program has been compromised, he is forced to leave his girlfriend without any notice. Three years later, they unexpectedly cross paths as Ethan is chasing a retreating assassin. Tori refuses to let Ethan disappear a second time and ends up on the run with him as the assassin hunts them down.
In the second novella - Run by Tina Folsom - Scott Thompson, another Phoenix agent, has been living as a mechanic since the program was jeopardized three years ago. When he has a precognitive vision of a school bus disaster, he jumps into action, saving the kids and their chaperone, reporter Phoebe Chadwick. Phoebe tracks down Scott to answer questions for her news story. Knowing an assassin is on his trail, Scott and Phoebe are forced into hiding as Scott prepares to eliminate the threat.
I really enjoyed both stories. They were action packed, intense and kept you on the edge of your seat. The passion between both couples was sizzling. This is a terrific read - you won't be disappointed. I can't wait for the next one!

Why you should read it: I've loved almost everything from Lara Adrian. She writes such steamy paranormals and I love all of her hot heroes. Ethan Jones is no exception. He's such a stoic agent … one that has a furnace full of feelings and heat underneath. I also liked Tori, she's so torn between her wanting him so bad and not wanting to be deceived/hurt again. As usual there is also a lot of action, running and some violence. All in all, I adored this first Phoenix book. I hadn't read anything from Tina Folsom, but the second book of the Phoenix series has shown me I should. Scott … ah, Scott … I understand why they called him a reluctant hero. He's such a bad boy but has a heart of gold. Phoebe's a great heroine and the chemistry between the two of them jumps off the page. I plan on reading more of Tina's books, starting with her Scanguards Vampires … I hear there's a ménage and m/m in the series!

Love the team of Lara and Tina!! They have produced two stories that alone, stand on the story telling alone, and together, takes you on one heck of a ride!

Cut - This one had me on the "edge of my seat" from the beginning. The characters were great, their story pulled at the heart strings, and I found myself cheering out loud when they overcame adversities, and crying when they both witnessed and experienced loss. I'm looking forward to more!

Run - What can I say? I fell in love with Scott from the first moment. This one also had me at the "edge of my seat" from the beginning. Scott and Phoebe are the perfect mix of "I am male" and "I won't take your male crap". Again, I was caught up in the moment, and scared to death that things wouldn't happen in time. (I am soooo trying not to give anything away here)

Together, the men make up the beginning of a reconnection of Phoenix. I am excited about where things seem to be heading, and adventures and trials that are coming. These two ladies knocked this one out of the park as far as I'm concerned.

My advice? Read it!

My two favourite authors coming together to write a new amazing series. I couldn't be happier.

This is only a very brief review. The main thing I want to say was how fantastic the first two books of the series were. They both included strong, independent and interesting characters. I love the whole concept of the series, that there are a group of ex CIA agents on the run and are being hunted.

From the second book you can tell where this series is heading. Each book we are going to meet a new agent and they will all come together at the end to stop the premonition they all have.

I could not put these books down, and when I wasn't reading them I kept thinking about them.

The only thing bad about them is the length. They need to be longer!

I love these two authors and I cannot wait for the rest of the series.

I know this is going to be an awesome series just by reading the first two stories. It's fast paced and keeps your interest all the way through. Tina and Lara make a great team and I am looking forward to reading the next installment. The two agents we met so far are awesome men and I'm sure the rest of the Phoenix team will be just as great. Kudos Tina and Lara!

I enjoyed the story and I like the storyline I was not fond of Phoebe in Cut. Their romance if you even want to call it that was to fast. I will try the next book.
