Masked Encounters is part one of the Intoxicating Passion novella series by Felicia Tatum. I was fortunate enough to read the ARC before it gets published on October 25th 2013.

I do have a problem reading books on a screen, and I *gasp* don’t even own a Kindle. However, since this is a novelette, I was able to read it on my computer, and I’m glad I did.

When I first started reading Mask Encounters, I was delighted on how it began.

I loved it!

Felicia cracks me up.

It begins with the main character nineteen-year-old Korah. She’s on a blind date her roommate sets her up on. I’ve never been on one before, but I imagine a few of you female readers have been in a similar situation as Korah where the dude is not only a loser but creepy and drones on and on about himself. Of course, afterwards his beady snake eyes roams your cleavage, and he says a cheesy line that makes your skin crawl.

Have you ever been in that position before?

Well, Felicia nailed the scene perfectly.

Anyway, Korah built a wall around her heart because her last boyfriend Christopher had hurt her. I don’t know what happened between them, but it was bad enough to cause Korah to crawl in a hole inside herself. I’m guessing the next installment in this series we’ll discover more about it.

Leela is Korah’s roommate and best friend. She talks Korah into going to a Halloween costume party the frat house on their college campus is having. Korah makes it clear to Leela that she’s not to be set up on a date, and she’s not going to hook up with anybody. Leela promises Korah they’re only going to have fun and that’s it, but little does Korah know what’s in store for her when she meets Dane.

Dane is a classic playboy. I have to say . . . I loved how his point of view began.

Loved it!

Felicia did an excellent job with this character.

Hell, she did a fabulous job with the whole chapter.

The reader is totally inside this ladies’ man’s head.

It’s great.

Dane is a gorgeous panty dropping type of guy, who seeks one thing from women . . . pleasure. He doesn’t care about them, and like the Grinch, his heart is the size of a pea. Then he sees Korah in a costume shop, and he can’t keep his eyes off her. She glances his way with disinterest. He’s shocked by her lack of attention towards him, and he can’t stop thinking about the stunning brunette.

The Halloween ball is in full swing when Korah and Leela arrive. Korah then comes face to face with a dark-haired stranger hiding behind a Zorro mask. When he speaks, his voice sends tingles up her spine, then the fun begins.

Ooooh, yeah.

What happens next might curl your toes boys and girls.

I recommend this book, and I’m looking forward to the next one.

Gah! I LOVED this novella! I'm a big fan of this author, so when I heard about another contemporary series from her then I was all over it! When I got an ARC in my email, I may have grinned like an idiot lol! This novella was so short, but so amazing! For the full 60 pages I was hooked! I couldn't believe how short it was and I really hope at the end that the author maybe makes a paperback with all the novellas in it! The plot of this novella was just the start of the series! It gives you a small teaser of what's to come and I cannot wait to see how it's all going to progress! I loved the plot! I was hooked from page one and I was desperate to read on and see what was going to happen next! The plot was executed brilliantly for it being a novella! It had a hot guy, an unsure girl and a killer ending, which is everything that I love in a contemporary book! The ending to this novella also leaves it open for anything to happen in the next novella, so you don't really know what's going to happen next, but you have your own idea! The characters were amazing! Korah was the main female character and I loved her! I can tell I'm going to love her even more as this series continues! Korah put up walls around her to protect her heart from being broken again, but when she meets her love interest you see her walls start to come down a little! And I mean a little! You don't get too much of an insight into the background of why Korah has walls so strongly up around her, but I'm hoping that throughout the other novellas the story will be explained in a bit more detail! Dane was main male character and he was a serious man whore, but seriously hot at the same time! I could tell that underneath his exterior he didn't really want to use girls, but he did! I'm hoping that maybe a certain love interest may just make him realise what's more important! Dane was intrigued right from the first moment he set eyes on Korah which was actually really sweet! I'm really excited to see how their relationship is going to progress! I wasn't expecting this novella to be written from both Korah and Dane's point of views, but it made this novella so much more fun! It's always interesting to go inside more than one characters head and Dane and Korah's heads are a pretty interesting place to be! I cannot wait for the next novella in this series! This novella ended at a brilliant scene and I'm really looking forward to seeing what's going to happen next! I'm in complete love with this novella's cover! I know that this couple are on quite a few other covers, but I love what the cover designer has done with the image to make this cover unique! Big thank you to Felicia for an ARC of Masked Encounters!

A fun, sweet, sexy short story! Can't wait to read more from this series. It is hard sometimes to get into novellas since we don't get much time with the characters but I think we will be getting lots of fun with these guys!

Felicia Tatum managed to pack quite a punch into such a short story. Masked Encounters is the first in a new series of novellas. This story centers around Korah and Dane. Korah is a journalism major who has sworn off relationships and boys in general. The author hints at the reason being a former bad relationship. Dane is majoring in biology and girls. I kind of liked Korah. Normally I go for a stronger female lead but there was something about Korah that was very sweet. It's obvious that she's been hurt in the past and I can only hope that we find out more about that. Dane is a major ass. (Can you say ass in a Goodreads review?) He comes across as overly cocky and arrogant but you can tell that underneath all of that ego there is a softer side to him. Even though Korah has sworn off guys and Dane claims to not feel, they have an instant connection. A pretty hot connection.

I loved the ending of this story. I thought that the book as a whole could have used a little more build-up but the ending more than made up for it. It couldn't have ended any better in my opinion. The encounter between Dane and Korah seemed out of character for her but she totally redeemed herself at the end in my opinion. And the cover is fantastic!

This was a great start to what promises to be a great series. I can't wait to see what happens next in Book 2.

Masked Encounters is an exciting and sexy short story by Felicia Tatum! She had impressed me before with her first book, The White Aura and now with her newest offering; I couldn't help but agree with the other readers/reviewers. This novella is intriguing, captivating and really intimate. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

Korah’s character is as mysterious as Dane’s. In this book, we get to meet Korah who had built an entire wall around herself because she got hurt from a previous relationship. Despite this wall, her best-friend Leela still set her up with blind dates, which turned disastrous in the end. And one night, during a masked Halloween party, Korah let out her inhibitions, wore a sexy angelic dress and captured the eye of Dane. Unbeknownst to her, Dane had seen her before and had unnerved him with her uneasiness and aloofness to the guys. And when the barefoot Korah was tended by a gorgeous masked man, she retaliated and ended up doing the unthinkable. Whatever it was, I’m not telling…

This book is really engaging. No boring scenes, no dull dialogues, just pure blissful reading! Thanks so much, Felicia for trusting me with your book. Gonna read the next one now!

I read through this very very quickly!!! I loved the characters in this story. Korah and Leela are so relatable. Leela being the wild and carefree and Korah being the tamer of the two. Korah has had her heart broken by someone somehow and so she likes to put up walls and keep people at arms length. Dane and Cale are also very relatable characters. Dane being the handsome playboy that isn't looking for anything serious with anyone and Cale the friend that supports and somewhat envies Dane. Dane to me epitomizes the stereotypical college guy. Neither Dane nor Korah are looking for anything serious. Both have had their heart broken at some point and don't want to risk it again. However, once Dane lays eyes on Korah, he can't help but want to know her. The frat has a party and reluctantly Korah has agreed to attend with Leela. Being a masked party, everyone has to wear a costume. An unexpected encounter leaves both Dane and Korah in a tailspin. The party left both characters questioning everything.

I loved this novella. I could visualize every scene and at the end was looking for more. I can't wait to read Unveiled Ties to see where this story will lead!! Kudos to Felicia for making me want more!!

I love reading Felicia Tatum's works, but this one has me wanting more. I want to know more about Korah and Dane.

Dane is a sophomore in college who likes to drink and have girls. He's the typical college playboy. Classes by day, girls and partying by night. What you would never know about him is that he is actually wanting a degree in Bio.

Korah is a woman who was hurt by a guy and doesn't want to trust them anymore. She lets her roommate set her up just to humor her, but she never wants to let a guy get close to her.

That is until she meets Dane at the masked Halloween party. After a short time spent together in his room, she is happy. But when Dane suggest that she takes off her mask...Korah freaks.

I think this was wonderfully written, especially for how she wrote Dane and how he's unfeeling when it comes to having sex with women. There is pain in his past that I can't wait to learn more about.

Where do I start? I seriously love Felicia! Masked Encounters is book 1 in a series of 5 Novellas, Felicia sent me a copy before it was even edited and I really enjoyed it. There is Korah a strong minded girl who isn’t interested in love or anything boys at the moment due to a terrible relationship previously. Then there is Dane, the playboy. Dane is instantly attracted to the beautiful girl who enters the Frat House Party and they instantly connect – in more ways than one.
After I finished it I was like ‘What the Heck!’ Be warned Felicia LOVES cliffhangers. I love the story it is like a modern sexier Cinderella story. I love Korah, she is someone I can connect with but Dane is someone I would love to slap more than once. I cannot wait for the next book, I love Felicia’s work; don’t stop doing what you’re doing!

This was the first book I’ve read by Tatum and I can guarantee you it won’t be the last. Masked Encounters is a quick paced NA romance, with an interesting plot and some well developed characters that I look forward to learning more about. Felicia will draw you in with this novelette and leave scrambling to get a hold of the next in the series.

Dane is one of those characters you almost hate to love at first. He is a total playboy who while he tries not to be an ass (as he works his way through woman after woman) he still comes off as one. However Dane has a story and I look forward to learning all about what makes this frat boy tick.

I wish we’d learned more about Korah, I felt like we were given the story of her past without the details which made me only want to know all about her all the more. Overall this is great quick read that is worth grabbing up!

Korah is in college and has been through a lot in life. She lives with her roommate and doesn't really trust guys anymore given her last boyfriend who was not only a jerk, but abusive. She goes to a costume shop with her best friend and see's this hot guy but wants nothing to do with him. Dane is a playboy who got hurt in high school by a girl and has sworn off love.....or feelings for that matter. He is living the life of a college frat boy and does nothing but party and goes through women quicker than he changes underwear. All he wants is sex and nothing more.....until.....Korah. They meet at a party and the sparks fly from there. It is hot & steamy and will leave you wanting more! This is the first short novelette in the series and be prepared to buy them all!

Key Story Elements: Halloween fun, college antics, caring friends, broken hearts, suspense, limited/very mild language, and adult-level sexual content.

“Masked Encounters” is a powerful short by Author Felicia Tatum, first in her newest series, Intoxicating Passion. Characters are quickly likeable, but far from perfect, as they struggle to overcome their individual romantic disappointments. This is a fun easy read which surprises on two levels: 1) it covers a huge range of emotions, and 2) the subtle but highly effective crescendo moving you from personal drama to heart-thumping suspense. Very well executed and I’m anxiously looking forward to Book #2!

Masked Encounters by Felicia Tatum is the first in the Intoxicating Passion five part novella series of books.

We meet Korah Daniels who has some serious baggage from an ex relationship. Korah's best friend convinces her to go to a masked party where she meets Dane Davidson and they have an hot connection however they are unaware of who is behind the mask. When they are about to reveal themselves to each other by taking off their masks she disappears.

This novella left me wanting more and so I dived straight into the second in the series. I absolutely loved this novella and would thoroughly recommend it and as such I gave this novella five stars.

Masked Encounters was a great introduction to this series of short stories. Korah and Dane are both broken, dealing with their personal experiences in diametrically opposite ways. Korah guards her heart, while Dane pretends his does not exist. Of course, until their chance encounter.

There is something fundamentally sexy about meeting a stranger at a masquerade ball, and Tatum takes that several steps further with a very seductive, and unexpected, encounter between the two leads. It left me a bit breathless, and certainly eager for the next installment!

Great read!

The Intoxicating Passion box set by Felicia Tatum is the combination of the five part novella series of books.

This is the journey of Dane and Kora as they find their way through some tough times and come out the other end.

I have individually reviewed the novellas and you can read those reviews for each novella. However I must say that this set of novellas was a fantastic read and I thoroughly enjoyed them. They take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and I recommend this read. I gave this box set five stars.

This was a quick read. I absolutely love her stories and Felicia did a great job with this one.I felt sad for the girl because she felt like she wasn't beautiful but her roommate was trying to get her to see that she was. The storyline was amazing. I can wait till I read the next to find out what happens to the characters. I love the ending it and how it made it more suspenseful. With the story you feel what the characters are feeling by the descriptions that were provided. Once I picked up the book i wanted to continue the story. I would recommend this book to anyone.

I was gifted this book for an honest review. I loved it. Dane is a hot college frat boy who gets all the women. He is so swoon worthy. Then you have Korah who is a shy sweet beautiful and smart girl who keeps getting set up on dates by her best friend. These guys end up being sleeze balls.

Korah decided to go to a mask Halloween party with her friend will the party at the frat house change Korah's life forever?

It's a couple's story of love denied and found through 5 novellas. This is what reading it meant to me.

First reviewed on Literaria http://sede-literaria.blogspot.com

FIRST DATE
A girl who's sick of bad blind dates.
A man who doesn't feel a thing.
A girl whose heart is broken.
A man who breaks hearts without regret.
And a Halloween party that will bind them in an intoxicating chance of passion.

It was interesting to get to know Korah and Dane as they go along their day, thinking and feeling and both sunning all emotional connection with the opposite sex. They have loved and come scalded out of the trial. As the exciting Halloween party nears, they are blissfully unaware of what is in store for them. Readers, on the other hand, are eagerly awaiting this moment of sparks and sensuality. And it pays off.

SECOND DATE
A man who's obsessed with a mysterious beauty.
A girl who has no idea who he is.

What a surprise! It was fun to see how these two cross their paths again. Dane won't let go of his infatuation, but Korah can't believe word he says. She knows his tpe. Anyway, they can't resist the temptation and that's when hot encounters begin to complicate things.
I was a bit surprised though at Korah's attitude. She insists on denying Dane a chance at wooing her, but then it doesn't take him any hardship to get to the ultimate prize. She gives in too easily in this case. Then again, it's all in the name of drama. Which is what comes next on...

THIRD DATE
A lot of drama and bad sex.
A man and a girl confront their inner demons, and nothing seems to fall in place.

Despite their mistakes, in this part of the story I see the characters fight themselves in order to find a way out of their problems. I liked how they try to get closer to each other but seem to grow apart. That adds vitality and angst over the evolution of both the plot and the characters.

FOURTH DATE
The author delves deeper into the relationship, making it passionate and tender. The way Dane cares for Korah in her most vulnerable, terrifying moments is endearing. However, his insecurities and bad temper are going to test his newly found bond with Korah. This is getting tough!

FIFTH DATE
Dane has almost messed up his life, but Korah is regaining her will to fight back. And it's great to see her come out of her shell, for herself and for Dane.
They both come to a resolution as a couple and as individuals. And they kick all kinds of demons in the ass. Great for you, guys! It was a realistic, though romantic wrap-up for a bumpy and passionate story.

BEST FEATURE: it's not only about love or sex, it deals with self-respect and the awareness of deserving better.

What a fun series!

Masked Encounters: Masked Encounters was a great introduction to this series of short stories.

Great read!

Unveiled Ties: Felicia really knows how to build the right amount of suspense, and story. So far, each of these shorts has given the reader just enough to tease, and want more. Korah and Dane are both fully fleshed characters, each with their own demons. This isn't just your average boy-meets-girl story, full of tropes. Both characters have much to learn before this series ends. Can't wait to see where she takes it!

Daring Dane: As this series moves forward, the story of Dane and Korah as a couple, but also as individuals, unravels in new and interesting ways. Their personalities come out like the peeled layers of an onion, with the suspense building in just the right intervals. Despite that Dane has issues, I find him to be intriguing, and likable. And some revelations about Korah in this one explain her personality better as well, making her seem less meek and more full of appropriate fear. I’m not sure where this story is going, but I’m really enjoying the journey Tatum is taking us on so far.

Pursuing Korah: The story of Dane and Korah took a much more serious turn in Pursuing Korah, the penultimate Intoxicating Passion novelette. Where before, both were trying to figure out their feelings, and their footing, now they are forced into a situation that will either bring them closer together, or eliminate all chances of a future. I enjoyed most of all getting to hear Dane’s internal struggles with understanding where his feelings were going, and realizing that while it scared him, he wasn’t going to let go. Sad that this series is ending soon, but looking forward to the final chapter!

Unexpected Consequences: Dane and Korah both have their demons, and their baggage. Throughout the novellas we've come to understand there that darkness comes from, as they both struggle to overcome and find their way to salvation through each other. This was a very satisfying conclusion to Tatum's Intoxicating Passion series.

I snagged this book after I checked out a sample on Amazon. Felicia Tatum pitched the title to me during my 12 days of Christmas party and I really got into it. Needless to say, I picked up a copy pretty quickly when I hit the last page and was left screaming, "Noooo! Not yet!" I read it in an hour or so and will now give you my review.

From a Reader's Perspective:
I liked the main characters, Korah and Dane. It was obvious each had their fair share of pain the in past, and a novella was the perfect way to introduce the two. Masked Encounters is a quick read with a lot of action and college-age angst between the sexes. There are a couple of graphic scenes that bordered on erotica but they never played out "just because." It seems the main characters needed the interactions to happen and the reader needed to see/feel exactly what was going on during the act(s). That being said, there's plenty of good stuff for a series starter and the characters are well developed for this to be a novella. I'll be checking out the other books in the series because I want to find out what happens between these two.

From an Editor's Perspective:
There are a couple of tense hops in the beginning of the story that left me scratching my head until I worked through them. Other than those, the editing was pretty good. I did find a couple of minor errors. Here's a funny one: ...I shared with Leela and Windi, I slid my shoes off hoping they wouldn't hear me enter. Again, this is a pronoun mix-up. They is referring to shoes, not the roommates like it should be.

Rating:
+1 Star for giving me a fast, interesting read that left me wanting more
+1 Star for well developed characters despite the length of the book
+1 Star for making me actually care what happened to the characters
+1 Star for a great plot (so far)
+.25 Stars for not writing "those" scenes just because
-.75 Stars for the tense hops, making for a slow start

Overall, 4.25 stars! A highly recommended read if you want to lounge and indulge in something that will read fast and hold your attention.

What a great heartfelt story of young love coming together !! I really needed this kind of read !!

Korah is a young and beautiful college student who is dealing with the end of an abusive relationship. Her roommate has high hopes of getting her back into dating but with some failed attempts at blind dates Korah needs to put an end to the constant set ups. They decide to go to a big Halloween party at a frat house and of course everyone has to wear a mask !! Dressed as a beautiful angel with no shoes proves to be a little much on the feet. When Zorro helps his Angel Eyes bandage up her wounds sparks ignite and they have a little party for 2.

Dane is in his early 20's and of course a super hot college man whore !! He has been burned by his mother and his high school love so now he just screws anyone and makes no attempts at relationships. His frat is having a huge Halloween party and while out shopping he sees the most beautiful girl ever and cannot stop thinking of her for days. When he spots the beautiful angel walk into his party with wounded feet he jumps into action and sparks fly but he is then left wondering who the heck she is.

Months later their worlds collide and while it does not take much to ignite those sparks again can Dane be what Korah needs or will his past prevent him from feeling for her ? When Korah's ex comes back into the picture Dane may be the only around to save her , again and again.

I loved reading about Dane and Korah. They were both great people with crappy pasts preventing them to fully open up. With a little help from one another they were able to come together and fall in love. It was easy to relate to the good and bad in this book. Abuse of any kind is unacceptable and I was happy to read that something was being done about it. Good for Korah for having the nerve to leave and in the end being strong enough to stick up for herself.

Thanks for an awesome rainy day read !!

The Intoxicating Passions Box set is the complete serial series. It has all five serial/novella parts to the Intoxicating Passions series. This is the only way I like to read serials. I like it when they are all boxed up together in an ebook so that I can read them all together one right after another. It is nice because they are so short that when I read them all back to back they are like reading a full length novel. I thought the story parts were divided nicely. Each one had a good kind of cresendo ending, and they each made me want to continue on to the next part.

This is the story of Korah and Dane. Korah has been hurt in the past very badly by an ex boyfriend and because of that she is very distrustful of guys. Dane is the typical love em and leave guy. One night at a time. I liked how we got to know each of the characters a little before they even met each other. That was nice because when they did meet, I already cared about Korah. As for Dane, getting a little background on the kind of guy he was helped so me all of the character growth that he eventually had. His growth and development was not instantaneous by any means. He still messed up along the way, and some of his actions were a bit frustrating to me, but you can't help but have him grow on you a little. Korah didn't make it super easy for him either. She held him accountable for his choices, just as she should have.

The story is told in Dual narrative between Dane and Korah. It was perfect for plot development of the story. I like it when we see the same story growing from the guy and the girl. It is always fun for me to get into a guys head and poke around a bit. Overall, intoxicating passions is a fun love story told in short little serial bits. They are like watching 30 min tv show episodes of the two of them. It is a good instant gratification type book. One that I enjoyed and was a quick read.
