Hillary hadn’t meant to sleep with Bert "DJ XTC" Morder. She blamed the lack of public bathrooms, and one too many Jaeger bombs for her even contacting DJ XTC in the first place. Now, thanks to the Internet, and the unfortunate incident of the studio live stream, all of Chicago was wondering exactly who the girl with the red-soled shoe had been. How long can she keep her identity a secret, and what will happen once her secret is out? Suggested for readers 18+ for mild romantic situations. ***PLEASE NOTE*** The page count" of this book suddenly changed to 180 pages. This is a FULL NOVEL at 312 printed pages.
Most of these are always written in third person, as if the author isn't the one actually writing them. So, I'm going to be a rule-breaker and write it in first person instead. I'm a native Chicagoan, vegetarian, and lover of big words. I randomly burst out into song, and have been known to carry on entire conversations (with those worthy of the challenge) in song lyrics. The same can also be said for movie quotes. I'm quirky, sarcastic, I've been told at times I can be a bit esoteric, but overall I'd rather be dancing in the rain than waiting for the storm to pass.
And I LOVE connecting with people- so go on, hit the "friend" button. :)
Its' my book, so of course I think it's great :) Actually I was going to give it 4 stars because I noticed the formatting is a bit off, and I also saw a "you're" instead of a your which made me cringe- but I hope to have those fixed and updated shortly! ***Update*** after proofing for the eighty seven billionth time.. I think most errors have been fixed :)
DIRTY LITTLE SECRET is a great book! I usually read dark romance so reading such a fun, entertaining, captivating, easy-to-read story was kind of like giving myself a mini vacation! While reading DIRTY LITTLE SECRET I was able to just let go and enjoy living vicariously through the book's very fascinating twenty-somethings! The character development was so phenomenal that it was easy to forget that I was reading about fictional characters. At times I literally felt like I was a voyeur, "watching" these relatable, realistic characters while they worked, played, dealt with heartache (and shitty bosses), overcame obstacles and even found love!
Aside from her amazing character development skills, Ms. Sanders can write a damn good story too! Each character had his/her own issues or story that connected him or her to the other characters. It all just fit and flowed seamlessly to create a very believable, engaging story. Aside from being a romance, Ms. Sanders also managed to throw in some unexpected twists and even gave me a few chuckles! She also proved that she is more than capable of writing steaming hot sex scenes too!
I was shocked to learn that this was Willow Sanders' first published book! DIRTY LITTLE SECRET is a great book… Not great for a first time book but just a great book period. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone who reads romance.
I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest and fair review.
Hillary is trying to keep up with her best friend Ivy, with partying, designer clothing, home, job, boyfriends, free drinks at the bar, you name it, she envies it all. The young cast of the radio world seems superficial, frivolous and a bit catty. From all the characters, Bert is my favorite. He's smart, sensible, sincere, reliable... you name it! True stand up kind of guy, he's easy to love. With the growing pains to adulthood, Hilary makes some incredible choices, that ricochet to people closest to her, and change her life. Nearly destroying her own, and some loved one's careers. The fallback is heartbreaking, even though she has no one to blame but herself. Obviously I'm not the target audience for these types of Young Adult stories. And even though I think this book could use some editing and corrections (wrong names at the wrong place), the story did hold my interest till the end. It reminded me of the TV series Gossip Girl in many ways. So if you like books where the characters are in the door steps to adulthood, trying to figure out their lives, direction of their future, where they party and shop constantly even though they can't afford it, talk and text obsessively, mostly gossiping, and where friends are your worst enemies in so many different ways -- this book is for you!
We all remember what college (or high school for some) was like! Everyone trying to keep up with everyone else. Well Hillary is trying to keep up with her best friend Ivy in Dirty Little Secret which means partying, designer clothing, home, job, boyfriends, free drinks at the bar, you name it, Hillary envies it. This was really a great read! Truly! I enjoyed looking at the mistakes that are made and remembering myself at that age. It really could be any of my friends lives from those days. So sit back and enjoy looking back on a time when it's okay to make a mistake and still be trying to find yourself. **I received this copy via the author in exchange for an honest review. This is a grown up book with a very youthful spirit. I don't know of a better way to say that. These girls are just starting out in life and careers. And like you would expect from any young woman, mistakes are made. I found the characters so easy to relate to, even though I'm much older now. They were very real and made the story so much fun to read. On a side note, I'm from Chicago. I felt a little like I was visiting home. Absolutely loved that part. If you are wondering if you should read this book, the answer is yes. It's a great book.
What a fun spin on the whole Cinderella story! Willow Sanders is a gifted romance writer and I enjoyed every minute of it. Hillary is a great heroine with plenty of sass. Highly recommend!
An interesting blurb caught my attention and I chose to read this book based on it. The story was very entertaining. The lead character has the worse luck and decision making. It was a very enjoyable story.
I requested a copy of this book so I could provide an honest review.
This story was a great reprieve from the pandemic news and information and from a different genre books. I enjoyed Hilary and Brett's story, it was romantic, steamy, funny and there was a little drama and gossip to spice things up. Sometimes it's just good to read an entertaining and light book like this one.

A funny and cute story about how not to get famous. The main character is well done and definitely fun to watch. The story moves along and develops some over the course of the book.

This is Willow Sanders' first novel—with a follow-up (Secrets of the Heart) due shortly.
Best friends Hillary Sloan and Amy Hursch are mid twenty-something career girls working for leading Chicago radio station The Edge, Hillary as an undervalued front-desk receptionist, Amy as PA to station Head of Operations and industry leader Bill Foley.
Both are ambitious work-hard, play-hards with a love of brands, shopping and going-out and an expenditure which greatly exceeds their income—money that Hillary relies on to pay the rent and bills, but Amy does not.
The result is Hillary lives in a small fifth-floor walkup which she struggles to afford while glamourpuss Amy has a plush apartment on Chicago's Gold Coast and a seemingly inexhaustible expense account, the source of which is the subject of speculation. Is Bill the benefactor or is it the Bank of Dad?
While Hillary constantly batters against her credit card limit, she somehow manages to keep up appearances when on the razzle through being granted use of the gold coast apartment and privileged access to Amy's wardrobe. The latter is eventually part of Hillary's undoing. A boozy night on the tiles ends up with an urgent need for a bathroom break at a rival station, after which a "minute of madness" ensues with a DJ, an indistinct version of which is caught on the radio station live video feed, later posted to YouTube by members of his late night audience and subsequently becomes the talk of Chicago media circles which leads to his dismissal.
The angle of the camera makes positive identification of the girl impossible—except to Amy, the owner and lender to Hillary of the clearly identifiable satin and sequined, lipstick-red Christian Louboutin shoes.
If the warp of the rich cloth that Sanders weaves is the social life of Amy and Hillary, the weft is an office story where the two seek the recognition their respective talents deserve. Battling against office manager Carol who is determined to keep her receptionist suitably downtrodden and in her place, Amy and Hillary eventually cooperate on a plan for a promotion which should break the glass ceiling for both of them, and which they go on to triumphantly pull off.
This is an easy-to-read and enjoyable book with believable characters and a plot that swings along easily and uses a couple of clever devices to keep up the pace. What initially appear to be sub-plots suddenly develop unforeseen importance and become the book's final focus.
Sanders skilfully develops Hillary's earlier lustful incident into a believable spicy romance and all seems to be going right in Hillary's world. However unbeknownst to the reader a timebomb—and one of her own making—is already primed, the question only how much damage will it do?
On a technical level it would have probably made more sense to explode this earlier than 4/5 of the way through, but as it stands "Dirty Little Secret" is a fun book with well drawn characters, good dialogue and a believable storyline and Willow Sanders appears to have a great future as a popular writer.
Early indications suggest Book Two in the series is a sequel which will more closely follow Amy's career path. As with all good storytellers Sanders has already set a few storylines running in book one to set up a plot for "Secrets of the Heart" and it will be interesting to see how she develops them as the story moves on.
Is it the mighty that fall? Or simply the call of the red soled shoes...
Who is the girl with the red-soled shoe? A Cinderella she certainly isn't! A self-proclaimed nerd, twenty four year old Hillary Sloan isn’t the helpless damsel in anyone’s fairy tale. An Ivy League graduate who is hoping to get noticed as she works her way up the corporate ladder, she’s desperate to keep her alcohol fueled night of bad decisions under wraps. But, what about the DJ? Bert “DJ XTC” Morder was on the air at his overnight radio job when an old friend called him and asked to use the bathroom. He had a thing for high-heeled shoes, especially those fancy ones with the red soles Hillary was wearing. A little flirting, a kiss or ten and suddenly the pair found themselves smack dab in the middle of a scandal of epic proportions. (Part of a Goodreads Blurb)
It’s always been about the red soled shoes. Those Christian Louboutin every woman dreams of owning, every man fantasizes feeling digging in their backside while they pleasure the woman under them. And who wouldn’t want that? Even Jennifer Lopez wrote a song about that special pair. So it’s only fair that they’d be smack dab in the middle of a scandal and having to rush to fix the situation as soon as possible. As much as the situation can be dreadful, I have to admit to the number of times that I laughed my butt off at the witty banter, the craziness surrounding having to hide and keeping under wraps their secret (and hoping that it doesn’t create and worldwide scandal), I also enjoyed the fact that it wasn’t a dark erotic, or depressing novel, or even paranormal, it was truly the type of novel that you can relate to and let yourself be taken away and ride the wave. However, be aware that the Dirty Little Secret is a two part series and as such, I’d advise readers to read both, it’s worth the thrill. . **Received a copy in exchange for an honest review. Just finsh this love story about Hillary and Bert. It is sweet and well written. I love the chemistry between Hillary and Bert, and you just have to love them.
Do you know what I love, Fallers? A good story about the media. I LOVE the media (mostly because I've spent a large chunk of time as part of it as a journalist). So when I saw this story about falling in love at a radio station... I had to give it a read. I'm giving Dirty Little Secret four stars! Where do I even start? Probably with the fact that Bert is officially my new book husband. Seriously. The guy is hot, nerdy, has curly brown hair, and is a huge music geek. *Fans self* And here's the thing--Bert really likes Hillary, our kick-butt heroine. Despite a kind of disastrous first date (it was ALL the fault of the horrible venue. And double dates are always weird), the two get into an extremely compromising position...and discover that man, oh, man, do they have some insane chemistry. It's off the charts, people. This book was one of those awesome instances where the couple really, really just felt like they belonged together in a real relationship. Plus, you know, the sex is fantastic. Aside from that, Bert and Hillary are adorable, and Hillary's friends are super cool--the whole book has a very real-world vibe to it, which was great. The only issue I had with the book was that for a while, it didn't seem to be going anywhere. We get the opportunity to sort of soak in Bert and Hillary's relationship, but there's no major conflict or driving action, which made some of the middle feel bit aimless. Other than that, this book was great. It was funny, sweet and full of heart. Plus, any author that says the Willis Tower will always be the Sears Tower is awesome in my book.

I was intrigued by the title and basic premise of this book—Accidental broadcast of a one night stand threatens girl’s entire existence. In addition to the expected drama, Dirty Little Secret provided an interesting look into the complicated world of radio and a realistic, but enchanting view of life in a big city like Chicago. While I don’t identify with the twenty-something, clubbing sort of lifestyle, the story and characters kept me entertained. The humor and pop culture references amused me. I laughed at Hillary’s rants on Macy’s and the banter between her and best friend Ivy. I did find the narration a wordy at times and I was distracted by the change in tenses and other grammatical errors. A good editor would be able to help with those types of things. Overall, Dirty Little Secret was an enjoyable read. In her “Mea Culpa” at the end of the book, Willow Sanders promises Ivy’s story is forthcoming. I would be interested in learning more.

Maybe it's because of the shoe, but this story gave me a sort of Cinderella vibe, which made it even funnier. I mean, a girl has a big night out with a guy, she disappears, and suddenly everyone is wondering who she is. Cinderella, right? But that's only where the fun begins, because Hillary is a free spirit confined in a stuffy, boring job who needs a jump start to really let loose. She knows her way around the city and is the constant target of flirting.
As the story goes on, Hillary in particular and the other characters grow in some really unexpected ways. Carol and Ali stay spunky, but they mature a little bit too. I'd say this is the perfect read for someone who wants a light and fun romance, a couple shakes of drama, and a dash of mystery (loved The Sleuth). I have a feeling I'll be reading this one again when I need something to cheer me up.
This is a fun story. This is a flirty story. I really enjoyed reading it. The author takes you on a witty ride through secrets, love, and 20-somethings in search of careers and their place in the world. The references to Chicago, albeit not all real, still gave a "true" sense of city life for 20-something women. The dialogue between characters was believable and I loved the text messages Ivy and Hillary sent to each other. The story line kept me intrigued until the end and had enough "mystery" to not be obvious which way the story would go.
Definitely a good read and I enjoyed the romance/passion scenes. Like someone else said, they are done well but not overly raunchy. A fun read that is sure to please.
This is a really good book. The love story of Hilary and Bert is clumsy and humorous. I really enjoyed reading it and didn’t want to stop! The characters are believable and the scenes are described in a very intriguing way. The author has crafted a story that will keep you turning the pages. Bert is so reliable and smart you will love him and Hilary is a woman we can relate to. This book hold my interest till the end and it could be fun to have another one like this to read. A light and fun romance! I recommend it!
Such a fun book! I felt instantly connected to Hillary--like she was one of my best friends that I've known for years. The witty--and sometimes snarky--comments within Hillary's head kept me laughing the entire time. The romance was just enough to make me blush--but not so much that I felt like I needed to put it down (I'm a bit of a prude!). I would recommend to anyone wanting a fun, smart, fast-paced read.
What a great beach read! The characters were believable and I found myself crushing on the main man. (And blushing a few times, too.) You should definitely check this out as a nice, fun, light-hearted read while hanging poolside this summer.
Dirty Little Secret is a great, easy and entertaining summer read. The characters are quirky and fun and the author clearly had knowledge of both Chicago and the radio business!
I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. Hillary is so busy trying to keep up appearances. She is out spending a rich girls budget with a poor girls income. Things get really complicated when a drunken hookup is caught on live feed at the station. Cannot get much worse you would think, but this is Hillary. This is about the bad and good decisions she makes, along with the fallout afterwards. I enjoyed the book

Dirty Little Secret by first time author for me Willow Sanders was a great read ! Can’t wait to check out more of this author’s back list.
This book was a riot and I found myself laughing out loud due to the dialog and funny situations. Loved the heroine - Hilary is somewhat of a hot mess but is quite the spitfire Cute storyline
Great fun read highly recommend this book !

This was a cute book. It's a humorous, clumsy love story. The scandal that propelled Hillary and Bert's romance was actually pretty believable and one of the more humorous parts of the story. Hillary's boss Carolyn also kept me laughing but I wasn't so impressed by Hillary's friends. They felt like more of a distraction in the story than anything. I could really relate to Hillary's overachieving personality and her drive to become more than just a secretary. I love that Willow Sanders used that as Hillary's plight in her journey to find her place in this world. Overall, I think Willow Sanders did a great job and I would love to read more about Hillary and Bert!

3.0 ON THE MASQ SCALE
I wanted to enjoy this book, but it didn't live up to my expectations. For me, there was far too much focus on brands, and places that might mean something if you live in Chicago, which I don't. The plot twists are predictable, and there's not much going on other than far too much drinking and too many cigarette breaks. Why are these characters even still employed if they just go for a cigarette break every time they're stressed by work (i.e. all the time)? I couldn't connect with any of the characters, which meant that I got about halfway through the book and then felt I was just reading it for the sake of getting to the end.
That said, if you understand the references, it's probably a very enjoyable read. Perhaps it's the fact that I'm a non-smoking, non-drinking Brit that left me a little out of the loop.
Hillary graduated from collage and became a journalist but she couldn't find a job so she was destined to work as a receptionist at a radio station. The story follows as Hillary mets Bert who is a Dj at the radio and they have this adventure which becomes the spotlight of all Chicago. As the story continues there is a secret that is reveled about Hillary that I totally did not expect but it was good. The story is an easy read and is well written. I really enjoy the story in the overall result. I think in some way I connected with the main character because she is a journalist and that is what I am studying at college. To tell more about the reason about why I loved the book is because the characters are really good, funny and they both capture more since the beginning and I wanted to keep reading. The author literally made me travel to Chicago and made me feel like I was watching the characters in their daily life because the book is well described. This is the first book I read from the author and as I investigated I also believe that this is her debut novel. The story is the first of the series but is considered as a standalone because book two just has interconnected characters with the first. I recommend this book as a must read.
A Fun, Funny, Romance I loved this read, it is light and fun and flirty and the characters are really great. It's a perfect curl up with a good book read. I absolutely love Hillary and Bert. Taking a first look at Bert and you would never guess what lies underneath. Hot and nerdy and oh so hot in the sheets and very sweet. Hillary is young and ambitious and so very likable, you just want everything for her. What happens to Hillary kept me intrigued and turning page after page until the very end. There is a second book so far to the series Secrets of the Heart. and I can't wait to dig in. Kudos to the author for such a great debut book. I was generously given a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review.
