The Sacrificers, Vol. 3 fully commits to its grim fantasy vision, pushing the story deeper into the consequences of a world built on obedience and ritualized suffering. The plot is more assertive here, and the series’ themes are unmistakably clear, supported by consistently strong, atmospheric artwork.

That said, while the scope and ambition are undeniable, the character work still feels at arm’s length. The story seems to prioritize ideas and systems over emotional intimacy, which makes the drama feel more conceptual than personal.

A confident and visually striking continuation that is impressive in construction, but not emotionally impactful. Not sure I will continue…

This volume is a lot of fighting, but it works very well. I love Pigeon, his push to take out the gods who fucked them all over is actually badass as hell and I'm loving the direction of this series. Without spoilers, this is the most actioned packed volume and well worth the build up.

Another aggressively dark and violent Sacrificers volume that nonetheless kept me on the edge of my seat. Rick Remender has twisted the traditional hero's journey on its head so much that I'm consistently surprised by where the plot goes. And when it goes there (), I'm weirdly thrilled.

A seemingly huge twist late in this volume has me wondering where the series will even go from here, but I'm fully on board for more depressing apocalyptic turmoil. ()

Sadly, I didn't care much about this third volume in 'The Sacrificers' series.

The art continues to be the best part in this graphic novel, in an issue that is full of action and what should feel like epic moments. However, as much as the language try to convey that feeling, the final product fell a bit short for my taste, in what just keeps being a quite stereotypical journey for all the main characters.

I might continue with the series, but not a priority anymore...

We get less time with our hero this leg of the journey, but, boy howdy, things are happening quick. Never seen a king so mad. Also insane encounters with family, if only briefly. Gotta be surreal to suddenly see your son or brother a furious godlike being hellbent on revenge as everything arounds him burns. Get 'em, Pigeon.

No Light Beyond is the third arc of Rick Remender's and Max Fiumara's ongoing series, The Sacrificers. A story about gods maintaining their hegemony over the world via child sacrifice, the world becomes upended when the moon god abandons her post and cataclysm strikes. Simultaneously, Pigeon, one of the children sent for the blood sacrifice, has gained the powers of a god and uses his newfound abilities to bring vengeance upon the uncaring gods.

This arc continues the threads from the previous arc where the Foreman attempts to locate Soluna, the daughter of the sun and the moon, who has been forced into hiding after losing her powers to Pigeon. A duel breaks out between the Foreman and Pigeon, with the latter being dragged into the lair of a god. Meanwhile, Soluna and Pigeon's sister, Beatrice, have been taken as the next round of Sacrificers to be killed as a means of controlling the masses. Plenty of action and character development, the third arc of the series continues to deliver an entertaining fantasy series.

Max Fiumara's artwork is as impressive as always, and the contribution from The Righteous Thirst for Vengeance artist André Lima Araújo fits seamlessly with the aesthetic curated by Fiumara. A big part of that is Dave McCaig's vibrant coloring which adds a lot of depth to the world building behind The Sacrificers.

Man, this series is really good. Here, things are starting to come to a head as Pigeon and Soluna both make surprising allies. This world is bleak and hopeful at the same time and its due to Remender's character work. You can see the character's growing as their world view is questioned, as we all should. The action is nonstop and its drawn beautifully. I still wished their was more backstory as that would help slow the book down some. Overall, another incredibly entertaining read.

While this does continue the exploration of the city of Olemas this one's message of the blowback from the powers that be and the nature of personal sacrifice for a community to work is a much more universal theme. It's done in a really gripping manner as has the rest of this story been done. I do fear the release of this will make me forget a lot of this. I know between volume two and three I forgot entirely that Soluna got infected with the black goo as well as being taken in by the kid-killer torturer that works for the Gods. But that’s more an issue on the release schedule than the books themself.
On a more spoiler-y end Pigeon's efforts are questioned well in the first half as

Lots of action fighting scenes in this short arc. The sun god stops brooding and gets pretty heated. Pigeon finds an ally, maybe?

I read this in single issues, which include a letter column. In those letters Remender revealed that this series is connected to Seven to Eternity, though he does not reveal what that connection is.

This is a series exploring hate and fear. Being blinded by both and losing track of the things that matter (love, family, companionship). The politics of the world are thought provoking. How much credence do you put into the justifications of the powerful? Is it just exploitation? Is gratitude owed? Looking forward to the next volume.

I enjoy tree sacrificer series but I cannot ignore the fact it reminds me a of a certain Kratos and his quest to vanquish the gods who caused him so much anguish.

Granted. Kratos is not the genesis of rebellion stories, and sacrificer does take elements of vengeance and rebellion to make for an intriguing read.

I just can’t shake the fact that it’s familiar territory for me.

Excellent series. We see real growth in our main bird/human hybrid protagonist - Pigeon. We also have commentary on religion and power and what happens when someone is constantly told they aren't valued. Could they be angry? How would that anger be controlled? Do you hurt yourself? Or others?

Also terrific art.

The dialogue feels a bit more heavy handed. Feels like an in between arc. Not my favorite.

The first volume of this series really grabbed and excited me, but ever since, it seems like the story has lost its way. Pigeon is back, seeking revenge on the gods of his world, who have been maintaining their hold on power through child sacrifice. Soluna, daughter of the sun and moon, has been captured by the Foreman, along with Pigeon's sister, Beatrice, and they seem destined to be among the next round of sacrifices, unless something else interrupts things. The art is strong and the world-building is great, but the story seems to be spinning its wheels a bit now (something that happens in Remender's work all too often). Hopefully, we're back on track in volume 4.

I have like/dislike relationship with this writers style, but they do throw in some gems every now and then. The art and world building is spectacular in this series. I think its the highlight of the show.
