Delivery One large crate, free floating in space, to be retrieved and the contents returned to a shinuk king.
It was supposed to be a simple job, like any other he'd done before. Until Tanin found himself looking into the delivery crate at the human females secreted away inside. Suddenly, this job just became much more dangerous. And not because the shinuk king has now hired bounty hunters to get them back. That's an easy hurdle. The real problem is Garnet and all the things she makes him want for himself. Foolish things. Dangerous things. Hopeful things.
What's a girl to do when she suddenly wakes up on a spaceship, in the arms of an alien, with absolutely no memory of how she got there? She punches him in the nose, then asks if she can stay. Of course. Garnet doesn't really miss anything about Earth. The only person she loves - her twin sister - is right there with her, so why not trade a life of stress, bills, and debt for space adventures? Seems like a great deal to her.
And sure, the king who abducted her and her sister is coming after them, trying to reclaim his stolen treasures, but she's protected by a group of... delivery boys?
Delivery boys who have strict rules about killing, a leader who uses a ribbon to fight, an un-artificial intelligence running things, and a past as dark as it is tragic.
Garnet only expected fun and adventure, but things are suddenly getting much more serious between her and Tanin, and she's about to learn what it means to really be treasured.
Tanin's Treasure is the first in the Delivery Service series. It is a MF romance with a HEA and a complete story between the leads. Though each story can be read as a standalone, this series is best read in order. Tropes and trigger page inside.
⭐️ 4.5/5 🌶 2.5/5 🧠 5/10 (Sci-fi universe with various species, planets, space stations, etc. to learn)
Let me start by saying that fight at the end will live rent-free in my head, maybe forever. The fight and that speech about power.. I get it, Garnet. I totally get it!
Talia's has built a fun universe. If you haven't read her Domini series, I highly recommend it. The first book in that series is nearly perfect. This one gave me much of the same feelings I had while reading that one. I do like the slightly darker tone this one took, though.
One thing about Talia's writing is that you will get all the details you could ever want. No stone is left unturned in her world. It can occasionally come across as long-winded with minor repetition, but it doesn't interfere with the flow for me.
The 2 mains here are wonderful. Tanin was written so well that his dark past, gray present, and hopeful future all fit perfectly. The way he had to continually fight against stigma externally and internally for not only himself but his people was written so well. Garnet was the right amount of tough without having no give. Her relationship with her twin was fleshed out well. I would have liked a little more depth for the side characters.
Speaking of side characters. I don't know if it's because it's sci-fi and the descriptions can sometimes be hard to imagine, but here is how I pictured some of them.
Sway - Blue Big Bird Rok - Sully from Monsters Inc Alred - His voice was Stewie from Family Guy
How can I read these guys as romantic leads now? 😂
Tanin’s Treasure by Talia Rhea was such a cute and satisfying alien romance. I really enjoyed the fast pace and the unique setting where everyone lives and works together on a ship as part of a delivery company, which added a fun twist. Tanin was such a great MMC: stoic, calm, and a natural leader, which made every moment of emotion he showed toward Garnet feel that much more meaningful. I really enjoyed this one.
Tanin's Treasure, the first in the Delivery Service series by Talia Rhea, was a slow but promising start to what looks like an exciting new world. While the first half of the book focused heavily on setup—world-building, backstory, and laying the groundwork for the series—the romance itself took a bit of a backseat. The couple’s connection felt a bit sudden, as the emotional development between them wasn’t deeply explored until much later in the book. It would’ve been stronger with a bit more time spent building their relationship organically.
Most of the book is told from the female protagonist’s POV, with the male lead’s perspective delivered mostly through flashbacks. So while it’s marketed as dual POV, it doesn’t quite feel balanced in that regard. That said, the second half of the book really picked up, and once the romance kicked in, the tension and chemistry were worth the wait.
As always, Talia Rhea delivers on the spice—10/10 in that department. For her first venture into darker themes, she handled it exceptionally well. The male main character had depth and edge without falling into abusive tropes, which is something she absolutely nailed.
All in all, Tanin’s Treasure was a solid start. If the first book was groundwork, I’m excited to see where the next one takes us now that the world is established.
I'm a huge sci-fi, alien, monster romance lover. So I read a lot in this genre. Yet I was pleasantly surprised by how much I adored this book and the characters. It's like they were written for me lol. The way the FMC was smart & logical, kind but not a push over, & ready to say "see ya later Earth, bring on the aliens". I was so here for her. I also loved the MMC, how he struggled with his darkness, yet also used it to protect the FMC. The worldbuilding and character nuance was chefs kiss, even for the side cast. The vibes were also uplifting & adventurous while also dealing with real things. I can def see myself rereading this book, and will absolutely continue the series. Can standalone with a HEA for the couple.
Life's too short to read anything other than exactly what you want! Then come tell me about it too lol. Happy reading.
The alien hero has quills on his head, he lights up in all areas of his body when dancing for his mate, he has knuckle claws, and a tail. He also has barbs "down there".
It was slow burn. He agrees to sponsor her and her sister after he rescues them from a kidnapping. This means they join his spaceship crew and learn about how to survive in alien space.
He talks to her about his feelings and how he wants her to be his mate. He tells her about his anatomy and that he would never hurt her.
The quills on his head are sharp. So sometimes he ties her hands so she won't hurt herself touching his quills.
He likes to praise her and call her good girl.
Thr bad guy who kidnapped them keeps trying to get her and her sister back. The hero gets epic revenge. You find out why everyone was scared of him where he grew up in a slum space station.
The other crew members are really interesting. It looks like each crew member will get a book.
3.5 and I round up. Goldie and Garnet were lovely, I tried to mentally vacation to a safe place on the barbs (creative anatomy does not go far enough), personally the relationship was designed to cater to a kink that doesn’t go far with me. I have to agree to disagree on using words for partners that I only apply to children, animals, and fools. And kink is subjective right, so I feel petty to not rank highly on something I find disturbing when I enjoyed a lot of other things else about the story and found it diverting.
But besides that, the author has an incredible brain and I love some of the concepts she comes up with. In world building, not in anatomy. Still confused and upset by the barbs. Maybe she should add illustrations or something because I am struggling to understand.
Interesting MMC and world building. Way better written than most of what you find on KU. I think the alien side characters are fun and I'd be interested in learning more about them/ reading their books if they get ones.
Stars lost: The sister took up a little too much space in the plot and ended up being a bit of an annoying interruption to the relationship development.
The FMC was also basically the same FMC you see in 90% of the sci-fi romance books out right now. I would honestly be ok if I never read the word "feisty/sassy/fiery" again and instead see a FMC who has ANY OTHER response to being kidnapped. Fear, wonder, confusion, I'll take anything at this point.
Knocked it OUT OF THE PARK! I love all of Talia’s books. This entire universe is so freaking good and I never want to leave. But THIS series?? Are you kidding me?? AND THAT ENDING?!?? Omfg I wanted to swoon. The absolute best morally gray MMC. He’s calm and so confident. And the most capable damn person ever. When he says he’ll handle it, I just want to sit back and see him handle it because we know he will. I loved him so much and I absolutely loved this book. Can’t wait for more!!
This book was exactly what I was craving!! Adventure, thought out world building, likable/relatable/emotionally convincing characters, a plot that wasn't crazy!! Sexy but no ick. More of these type of stories please! I want more Garnet & Tannin stories. I'll read secondary character stories from this series but I feel like these 2 have more adventures ahead of them that I would love to read!
I loved the Mate's of the Domini series and this looks like a promising start to a new series by this author. It's set in the same world but with a more diverse set of aliens.
Lots of spice and heart, as well as danger and adventure. Bad guys turned good, mostly, is such a fun troupe. Great characters, detailed romance, and lots of sweet moments balanced with steamy sexy spice and some vengeful violent tendencies.
Great start to a new series. Excellent worldbuilding without being heavy-handed, interesting main characters with palpable chemistry. It's a bit of a slow burn, but it works given the scope of the story. I don't think it's necessary to read the Mates of the Domini series to understand the background here.
I loved that this book was more of Tanin's emotional growth. A lot of times the FMC's growth and story overshadows MMC's growth and here I felt the focus was more on his journey. A great start to a series too!
Such a fun time! I love the world that is building and the found family dynamic of the crew. Characters feel fleshed out and have distinctive identities. Right balance of lightness and dark themes. Can't wait for the next books! (mainly the twins book haha)
Review- I’m actually so mad I kept putting off reading this book. To be fair life has been life-ing and I haven’t really had the time to read.
Plus delivery services didn’t really catch my attention.
Oh… ye of little faith. Why I ever doubted her I do not know.
The way I ate this book up in 2 work days flat. (That gives me really only 4 ish (heavy on the ish) hours a day to read.)
Yeah so, delivery services didn’t quite encapsulate the vibe of this book. Turns out it is actually my favorite subgenre (trope?) in science fiction romance. Pirates… well kind of. Morally grey individuals is the better term. They do run a delivery service, their specialty is guaranteed deliveries of dangerous, expensive items to any location no matter how difficult. It’s guaranteed because they have the… right set of skills to make sure nothing stands in their way.
So pirate vibes but they don’t steal… anymore.. technically. Everything is above board. For the most part. lol
All that to say. Please go read the book and come back to join the discussion.
