He's a prince longing for freedom.

She's a baker yearning for the ultimate love story.

Together, they'll discover that sometimes the sweetest magic lies in unexpected places.

Rosalyn's enchanted scones bring magic to every bite at The Sconery and Teashop. With a glitter-sneezing caticorn and a thriving business, all Rosalyn needs is a romance as sweet as her baking. When a mysterious Rune Elf strides into Moonshine Hollow, bringing secrets and devastating charm, her perfectly-measured life crumbles faster than a day-old scone.

Bjorn is no ordinary elf. A secret prince looking for an escape, he's determined to forge his own path far from the expectations of his royal family. When he's tasked with helping a wild unicorn herd suffering from chaotic magic, he's relieved to focus on creatures instead of people. That is, until a certain insistently-friendly baker and her pet crash into his carefully guarded solitude.

As Rosalyn and Bjorn work together to uncover the source of the magical imbalance in horned creatures, sparks fly in more ways than one. Her warmth and charm start to melt his icy walls, but Bjorn's secret could shatter their fragile connection. Maisy Magill

Maisy Magill writes cozy fantasy romances where magic meets small-town charm—think Stars Hollow with a sprinkle of fairy dust and a pinch of spice to make things interesting. Her stories are the bookish equivalent of a warm hug, a crackling fire, and a perfectly baked scone (preferably with a touch of enchantment).

When she’s not weaving tales of love, magic, and mischievous caticorns, Maisy fully embraces the cottagecore lifestyle. She can usually be found coaxing her garden into behaving, embroidering slightly wonky flowers, making chocolate or gelato (because why choose?), or sipping tea while pretending she’ll only read one more chapter. Her books invite readers to slow down, savor the magic, and believe in love, one whimsical, heartwarming story at a time.

Hanging out her balcony waiting for her one true love, Rosalyn is the cutest baker with a dream, a caticorn and some of the sweetest best friends around in her small town. Enter stage left, Bjorn, just Bjorn ... who is rather adorable and will he solve the puzzle of moonshine hollow? This whole read was just so fun, cozy and spicy. I squealed when we got to the only one bed in the inn part as I love that trope. I have to say Rosalyn was just so loveable you wanted to squeeze her and root for her to have every happy ever after that could ever be. I loved all the magical critters in this story and really hope we get to see more from them in other stories. I really must have my own caticorn now, a cat with a unicorn horn.

Favorite Quote: I nodded, suddenly acutely aware of the cabins limited sleeping arrangements. There was only one bed. "Ill take the floor," I said quickly. "there are plenty of blankets."

This was such a cute and cozy small-town fantasy romance with just the right amount of spice! Will definitely be reading more by Maisy Magill!

What I loved about the book:
1. FIRST OF ALL, that cover is FANTASTIC!! The crisp colors but overall cozy vibe are a perfect representation of this book and its characters! Seriously, I want to own this cover on my shelf 😍

2. I loved both of the animal companions of our MCs. Merry, Rosalyn’s chaotic little caticorn, and Smoke, Bjorn’s mischievous firewolf pup, were the perfect little cutie sidekicks for their adventures! I also enjoyed some of the small town antics like the compass bird who kept taking Bjorn to Rosalyn’s shop and making him look like a stalker 🤣

3. I enjoyed Rosalyn’s backstory of how she left her hometown and mother’s expectation of being a Butterfly Maiden behind. While it took place before this story’s setting, I loved that she trekked out on her own to follow her passion of baking. I also felt this helped her to connect with Bjorn once she knew his real identity. They both grew up feeling they had expectations thrust upon them that weren’t their own goals.

4. I adored how Bjorn was looking for someone who saw just him rather than his family name and privileges. I enjoyed his setting out and taking on a secret identity just to get to find himself a bit more, and I loved how Moonshine Hollow offered him this respite as the cozy small town it is.

5. I enjoyed the mystery surrounding the magical animals and that it took both Rosalyn’s and Bjorn’s magic together to set everything back to rights! This fantastic forced proximity to help the town was such a cute way to get them to work together.

6. I loved the little found family that was Rosalyn’s book club. I can’t wait to get stories for all these characters! I especially loved the little friendship that bloomed between Bjorn and Tansy, another elf in the town. I’m glad he was able to connect with someone else beside Rosalyn and those he was working for.

7. I loved the recipes made available at the end of the book. This was the perfect closing touch!

Thank you to Maisy Magill for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.

"....smiling softly as he took my hand and placed a genteel kiss thereon. I’m going to die. Right here. In the middle of breakfast. I am going to literally implode into a cloud of glitter." (Ch 5)

Rosalyn, a pixie, is a lovelorn baker with dreams of finding her one true love... but has had no luck with the limited local undesirable selection. Bjorn, an elf prince, is not keen on being married off by his persistent mother and tires of her parade of eligible matches. He ecapes to Moonshine Hollow incognito. The two of them have to work together to solve a local mystery involving the chaotic magic of the unicorns before it's too late. They uncover more than they expect to find.

"....Sometimes, the best magic is the unexpected kind.” (Ch 13)

A cozy romantasy full of glittery sneezes, instalove, and a bit of steamy snuggling under and over the covers. Great if you want to take a break from the dark and/or hardcore stuff, as it's something cute and lighthearted (but still has a little bit of seasoning).

Got to also love the creative, adorable magical creatures, like a caticorn, a firewolf, cupid swans, and the compass bird.

""....If it’s true love, you’ll see him again. Next time, however, try not to undress him with your eyes.”
“But it’s just so hard not to, and I have a very good imagination.”" (Ch 5)

A hopelessly romantic pixie lives above her sconery with a caticorn (cat-unicorn) companion that grows wings when he gets the zoomies. Moonshine Hollow is short on eligible bachelors, so Rosalyn is pretty amped when a hot elf shows up to help the village elders figure out why all the horned creatures are sneezing glitter. In addition to being a unicorn whisperer, the hot elf is also a prince, but he's kept his royal title on the DL as he’s tired of fending off gold-diggers. He’s powerless to overlook Rosalyn’s lovely crumpets though, and throbs of desire win out when a passionate kiss leads to a remote cabin with limited sleeping arrangements…huzzah! I’m not a book club person, but I’d join the monthly meeting at Sir Reginald Hootington’s Magical Bookery without hesitation. If you’re brainstorming Halloween costumes for your feline familiars, eBay sells inflatable unicorn horns for cats.

Must Love Scones and Secrets Book 1 in the Moonshine Hollow series

O M G This book is so dang cute and cozy, you step into a world of wonderful magical creatures where a bunch of different species live together with their adorable pets. There are caticorns, and I need one, because who wouldn't want a glitter sneezing caticorn with a golden horn!? Also, Merry the caticorn sprouts wings when he gets the zoomies, and I just cannot stop laughing at the mental imagery of a cat flying around with zoomies! There are firewolves, teeny tiny finger sized fairies, unicorns, uni-seals, Snufflecorn piglets, elves, gnomes, etc. The names of the shops, Sir Reginald Hootington's Magical Bookery, what a cute name! The town of Moonshine Hollow is a place I would love to be able to visit! And bring home a pet caticorn.

This book starts off with an extremely amusing horrible date for the FMC Rosalyn, who is a Pixie. Then we meet the MMC, Prince Bjorn of Frostfjord, a rune elf, also in a similarly amusing predicament, dancing with a woman who literally asks him if she would have access to his riches if she became his wife. With a letter from Moonshine Hollow asking for help with the unicorn herd whose magic was acting up, Bjorn decides to sneak away from home and the castle life to attend to the unicorns, and be just Bjorn, not Prince Bjorn, for once. When Bjorn walks into Rosalyn's "The Sconery and Teashop" she gets heated in all the right places, and his rune marks light up indicating Rosalyn might be someone special....

Every single thing about this story is magical and whimsy and cozy and so cute. I want merchandise from this book, I want to see it come to life as a movie series (granted not sure it could live up to my brains imagination of the book!), or show, because all the creatures and characters are so cute and amusing! I loved this story from beginning to end, and was sad when it was done. I am so glad this is a series, I can't wait to meet more characters from this town! There is a couple of spicy scenes in the book as well, and I just love spicy scenes in such a cozy book because it feels like it comes out of nowhere, but in a good way, and this story had it perfectly.

Something I super appreciated about this book is the attention to detail on the main character's pets. Merry the caticorn wasn't just a side character that you read about here or there, but was almost always with Rosalyn, and included as a true part of the story. Bjorn's firewolf Smoke was also a very present character, and again, I just loved that part of the book. I feel like often there is a pet mentioned and then semi forgotten about in stories, and I absolutely love and appreciate when the pet sidekicks are true sidekicks.

You have to read this magical cozy book, you will be whisked away to a land you wish you could visit, and humored by all the magical creatures.

Some Fav Quotes: SPOILERS to some extent in the quotes about the creatures
"Merry's enchantments mostly consisted of zapping mice or growing iridescent golden wings when he had the zoomies. Sneezing glitter was a new one."

"...what I loved most about our lands were the magical creatures. I seized any excuse to sail away to study them, whether it was the uni-seals of Eld Island or the winged reindeer of Frost Isle."

"He meowed loudly, his glimmering golden wings appearing. Zoomies."

"With his little iridescent wings, which only appeared when he had zoomies, he flew around the room at lightning speed. He catapulted off the side of the wall, narrowly missing Primrose and Winnifred."

""Just Bjorn," he replied, smiling softly as he took my hand and placed a genteel kiss thereon. I'm going to die. Right here. In the middle of breakfast. I am going to literally implode into a cloud of glitter."

""I never thought it was possible to spontaneously combust in response to someone's sex appeal, but I think I was dangerously close.""

""That sounds very similar to the issue Granik's new snufflecorn piglets have been having"..."The piglets have been zipping around and leaving trails of truffles in their wake, not that anyone minds.""

"On the other side of the field, an old stallion was grazing, minding his own business, and farting clouds of sparkly rainbows."

"I melted into him, heat coursing through me. Bjorn met my passion without hesitation, his lips claiming mine with a hunger that sent sparks shooting from the tips of my wings."

Thank you so, so much to the author for a copy of this book!!

AHHH, oh my gosh this book was so cute and whimsical! It was fantastic! It was fun and funny and I really like Roselyn and Bjorn so much! He is seriously like Captain Consent! 🤣 The book club ladies killed me, they were hilarious and not all subtle with their meddling and plotting!

Even the chaotic magic was so cute and everything just screamed whimsy! The caticorns and unicorns and all other horned animals were so friggin cute! Like they sneezed glitter! How adorable!

This book just makes me want to squeeze its cheeks it’s so cute!🫶🫶

Once I began reading Must Love Scones and Secrets, I lost sight of my surroundings—Suddenly transported to a cozy, little magical town, full of unicorns and other wonderful creatures. Throughout Bjorn and Rosalyn’s sweet love story, there were no commercial breaks, just page after page of welcoming townspeople, adorable animals, toe curling spice, a little drama, beautiful magic, and love.

* Must mention: The glossary in the back is PRICELESS. It lists Characters from Moonshine Hollow, Frostfjord, as well as ‘Other Characters’; Places in Moonshine Hollow, Frostfjord, Frozen Isles, and ‘Other Locations’; AND there’s recipes!!! What?! I mean, Come. On. .Food. ‘Nuf said.

I got this for free on an insta story ad and was excited because I love a cozy fantasy and they rarely have 🌶️ but why are there 3 male characters with "Thorn" in their name (the author mixed 2 of them up at one point and it completely took me out of the story)

This book was the perfect example of cozy fantasy. It was giving D&D vibes for me as far as the characters: elf, pixie, halfling, Dryad, Orc, and wizards. This book had it all: unicorns, adventure, royalty, baking, romance, oh and I can’t forget a caticorn. I loved the story and how the main characters had an instant connection.

Almost DNF this book. To give it some credit, the story is rather simplistic, but still cute and has some endearing moments. The book often reads like a DND game, if you are interested in lengthy descriptions of magical settings, creatures and spells. However. I often felt that the author relied on paragraphs and paragraphs of these descriptions to pad out a story that wasn’t that interesting/lengthy on its own. NEARLY ALL of that magic is fluff that doesn’t contribute to the actual plot of the book.

In fact, there were certain times where I suspected AI was used to lengthen the book, as there are numerous sentences that are repeated verbatim throughout the story. It’s especially noticeable when the main love interests keep repeating the same three descriptions about each other as a justification for their love (that spawned over the course of three days). If not for the “spicy scenes,” I would have thought this was meant to be a children’s book—given how simplistic the writing style and character motivations are.

What really bothers me the most is how little faith Magill has in her own story. The characters don’t learn anything: they are told exactly how to fix the A-plot issue without any investigation or insight of their own, and they are given the same platitudinal advice over and over by the side characters. If not for the interference of others, nothing would have happened to the main characters, they didn’t do ANYTHING to “solve the mystery” of the unicorns, they were told what was wrong and how to fix it.

Even the romance wasn’t of their own volition, the soulmate “glimmer” plot line wasn’t taken seriously by any of the characters until the very end—and the two love interests floated around until their friends pushed them together.

(Slight spoilers to prove my point) Rosalyn wouldn’t have pursued Bjorn if her friends hadn’t suggested and encourage it. And Bjorn was straight up leaving moonshine hollow when Rosalyn’s friends stopped him and convinced him to propose to her. Even the method of proposing was someone else’s idea.

And don’t even get me started on the lazy, unoriginal Pride and Prejudice knock off.

I don’t think I’ll be picking up any of the other books in the moonshine hollow series, and I genuinely don’t encourage anyone else to economically support a series/author that isn’t even doing the bare minimum for their books/readers. There was potential in Must Love Scones and Secrets but it was handled incredibly poorly and did not meet the mark, in my opinion.

✨ Book Review: Must Love Scones & Secrets by Maisy Magill ✨
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (5 enchanted stars!)

If a cinnamon roll romance and a fairy-tale forest had a love child, Must Love Scones & Secrets would be it. Daisy Magill’s debut in the Moonshine Hollow series is an utterly delightful cozy romantasy that blends magic, mischief, and just the right amount of spice to warm your heart and curl your toes.

Set in the enchanting town of Moonshine Hollow—a forest fairytale brought to life—this story had me completely spellbound from page one. We follow Rosalyn, a sunshiney baker whose enchanted scones bring magic to every bite at her beloved Sconery and Teashop. All she’s missing is a love story worthy of the bards. Enter Bjorn, a grumpy, devastatingly handsome Rune elf with secrets deeper than the forest and a royal past he’s desperate to escape.

The chemistry between Rosalyn and Bjorn is everything you want in a grumpy/sunshine pairing. Their banter, forced proximity, and tender moments had me swooning. But the heart of this book doesn’t stop at romance—it’s brimming with magical creatures and quirky companions that make the story truly unforgettable.

Speaking of companions, can we talk about Winnifred the gnome? I absolutely adored her nosy (but always well-meaning) meddling, and Merry the caticorn is the glitter-sneezing sidekick I didn’t know I needed in my life. The animal companions add such whimsical charm, and the entire found-family vibe of Moonshine Hollow is cozy perfection.

As Rosalyn and Bjorn team up to uncover the source of a magical imbalance affecting horned creatures, their journey becomes one of trust, vulnerability, and love. Bjorn’s icy walls slowly melt under Rosalyn’s warmth, but the danger of his hidden identity looms large. Will she get the epic love story she dreams of before it all unravels?

Magill delivers on every cozy fantasy promise—
✔️ Royal Romance
✔️ Grumpy/Sunshine
✔️ Forced Proximity
✔️ Hidden Identity
✔️ Animal Companions
✔️ Found Family
✔️ Small Town Magic
✔️ Guaranteed HEA
✔️ Medium Spice (🌶️🌶️) that's sweetly seductive without overpowering the cozy tone.

If you’re a fan of Kimberly Lemming or Heather Fawcett, you’ll feel right at home in Moonshine Hollow. This spicy little gem left me smiling, swooning, and craving scones with a side of mischief.

Final thoughts?
Must Love Scones & Secrets is as enchanting as its title. It’s a magical, feel-good, cinnamon-spiced hug of a book—and I can’t wait to return to Moonshine Hollow again and again.

Rosalyn’s peaceful existence running her enchanted bakery shop in Moonshine Hollow is disrupted by the arrival of mysterious Rune Elf Bjorn, who brings magic, romance, and a unicorn problem into her life.

Must Love Scones and Secrets is a sweet and magical start to the Moonshine Hollow series, full of charm, cozy vibes, and just enough spice to keep things interesting. Rosalyn, a pixie baker with a talent for infusing her pastries with magic, is an absolutely delightful fmc. The world-building in Moonshine Hollow is rich with whimsy—talking scones, glitter-sneezing caticorns, and enchanted baking? Yes, please.

The slow-burn romance between Bjorn, the broody Rune Elf with a royal secret, and Rosalyn is believable and captivating, with quirky side characters and a magical setting that immerses readers in a fantastical world.

While the narrative stumbles occasionally, with certain scenes feeling overly long and some plot points relying too heavily on magic, the book’s lighthearted tone and fantastical charm are so wonderful and cozy that it makes me feel giddy.

Can’t wait to see what the next book in Moonshine Hollow brings!

Another cute story from Moonshine Hollow. Rosalyn is unlucky in love but hasn't given up on it, and Bjorn is a prince trying to escape the attention that his position gives. When he travels to Moonshine Hollow to help with their unicorn problem, he doesn't let anyone know who he is in order to be treated like a normal person for a change. He and Rosalyn have an instant connection, but he cant imagine how anything would work out if he would tell her who he really is.

Bjorn especially has some great growth in this and I'm excited to have him join the cast of the series. Their relationship is also a great story, and the rest of the town's inhabitants are all a lot of fun. I can't wait to see who is next in reaching their happily ever after.

Omg. This was literally the perfect quick and cozy fall fantasy read that I needed. It's overall a pretty clean book too despite the 3 spicy scenes. There's no profanity and minimal innuendo outside of the spicier parts. The writing is good and super easy to follow. I love how there's recipes at the end of the book too. I'll definitely have to try some. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a fairytale type of fantasy with the cutest happily ever after.

"Must Love Scones and Secrets" is book one in the "Moonshine Hollow" series by Maisy Magill. This was a wonderful book by Maisy. Rosalyn owns The Sconery and Teashop, and Bjorn is a prince who wants a break from everyone knowing who he is. Bjorn ends up in Rosalyn's bakery and loves that no one knows him. I enjoyed this cozy fantasy type of book. Maisy writes in this world very well. It had just enough magical elements for me, and the characters kept the story going. I will definitely be reading the next book when it comes out.

Possibly one of the sweetest books I have read in a long time. With almost Disney-esque whimsy, and a host of magical creatures, this cosy fantasy delivers on cottagecore in spades. As a baker I take any and all opportunities that I can to read a good book about a baker and this book didn't disappoint! I originally found this author/book through mutual Instagram friends talking about book 2, and I was so intrigued that I had to go find book 1 before the next one was set to release.
I found the FMC Rosalyn to be a bright little spark of sunshine and I'm honestly jealous of her abilities that make baking that much easier, and also like hello, where can I get my own Merry??
Bjorn was a great MMC and I loved that running away from the pressures of his life being a prince led him exactly where he needed to be, whether he knew that or not in the beginning.
I'm always a sucker for a good cozy romance and this absolutely hit that mark, and to add onto how adorable this book was, we were even graciously given recipes in the back!

The recipe I chose to make from the book was Rosalyn's secret recipe: Rose-And-Strawberry Scones.
I had never baked with rose anything before, so not only did I find the recipe intriguing, but also to me, if any recipe embodies this book, it's that one. (Also they were DELICIOUS)
I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet and cozy read on the shorter side with just a hint of spice.

Gag! I did not like this book at all. It gave me the feeling of a pride and prejudice feel but you were told to add so much unnecessary detail to make it a longer book. The insta love is a little whatever but I do not care what the book shop looked like. Don’t care! And this magical issue that happened felt like such a throw out. Like oh there is a huge massive problem but let that be a subplot to the main man lying. Oh wow, it was fixed in half a chapter… wow, must not have been that bad then. It was as if it took on so much and crammed it into one book.

Must Love Scones by Maisy Magill is the first in the Moonshine Hollow series, which is a cozy fantasy romance. There is a prequel novella in the series as well called Must Love Moss and Moonshine.

Bjorn is a Rune elf prince who needs to get away from his family and would rather work with animals. When his kingdom gets a letter asking for aid with a unicorn sickness problem, he uses that excuse not only to get away, but to help the animals. Rosalyn is a pixie who works at a bakery and is looking for love. She’s dated nearly everyone in town, but no one seems to be a good fit for her. When Bjorn comes to town, they are both intrigued with each other. They spend time with each other, but Bjorn hides his royal heritage.

This was a fun and cozy read! I liked the chemistry between Bjorn and Rosalyn. I loved the world Magill put her story in, especially one with magical animals. I also enjoyed reading about the side characters, like Bjorn’s sister and the other townspeople. The magic system was also interesting to read about and unique to the story.

If you like cozy fantasy romances, elves and pixies, and magical animals, then this book is for you. Thanks to Maisy Magill for the ARC!

I have no idea what I just read.

This was an insta love with fated mates but she doesn't know they are but he does and he doesn't tell her because he's insecure about being a prince which oh by the way he didn't tell her he was one. So he's freaking out the whole time about lying to her about not being a prince when she has no idea why he's being so weird after they hook up one time and the next day they save the town too because there's that?? She finds out he's a prince and cries about it. He decides to try to leave town because coward. And in the end her friends convince him to dress back up like prince AND PROPOSE TO HER because why not. That's about were I stopped reading and could not do anymore.

I'm pretty sure this whole book takes place over three days and he proposes at the end.
