Though he spent the first four years of his life in England, Piers never returned to live in his country of birth after moving to Spain and immigrated to America at age six. After graduating with a B.A. from Goddard College, he married one of his fellow students and and spent fifteen years in an assortment of professions before he began writing fiction full-time.
Piers is a self-proclaimed environmentalist and lives on a tree farm in Florida with his wife. They have two grown daughters.
Maaan, when I started reading I thought this was story about a man exploring a mysterious trail but suddenly it became so sexual. It kept making me facepalm and roll my eyes. I'm not a puritan but, damn, the sexual thing was too much and so annoying. It looked like the women was more worried with the man's pleasure than with theirs. I just couldn't get into it. And, ah, I think I'm too exhausted reading about misogynist societies in fantasy. I can't take it anymore.
Got this book as a free download. I wish I could remember the source so that I could block it from ever visiting again.
It is a misogynistic story from about page 4, and it is written in the style of a 12 year old boy that has mastered complete sentences and discovered boobs. (My apologies to most 12 years old boys).
Sorta spoiler - at the end of book one, a male were-unicorn shows up and all the women swoon. Yeah, added to my “don’t-ever-start” list.
This one I can't explain yet... I've enjoyed a lot from Piers Anthony in the past. This book, though... I've tried to read it half a dozen times now and keep falling out of it. It seems somehow...stiff. The dialogue doesn't seem to flow naturally. Perhaps I've changed more than I think since those years, I'll have to try a re-read on one I know.
Very typical Piers, really, with all the sexual overtones one has come to expect. I hope they sold well to loyal fans and he got the income he needed for this series published to Kindle.
Dear Penthouse, I never thought it would happen to me. I found myself in the world of Xanth, but my barely outlined fantasies turned into full blown graphic sex.
