I'm not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother's knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I'm not admitting how many) I'm still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

Short, sweet and oh, so sexy, Darkness Eternal may be a novella but it brings on the romantic heat.

Held prisoner for 400 years by her ruthless, evil, turned vampire twin, Kata has had enough of vampires to last the next 4 centuries.

Uriel, vampire warrior and second in command to his clan leader, is tasks with saving Kata.

When both are taken straight to the hell realm, it will take trust and their combined strengths for them to come out alive.

Ivy gives us deeper insight into the secondary characters we’ve met before while whetting our appetites for more to come in the Guardians of Eternity series.

I found Darkness Eternal was a quick, easy and highly entertaining read.

I received this ARC copy of Darkness Eternal from Kensington Books - Zebra in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication April 1, 2015.

Kata has been held prisoner for over 400 hundred years so when a glimmer of hope for escape surfaces she can't help but pounce on it. However, that glimmer comes in the form of a vampire named Uriel. As angelic as Uriel may appear, Kata knows he's still a predator and won't be fooled by him.

Uriel is second in command to his clan leader but that doesn't help him any when he's charged with an important mission. He's to save the beautiful Kata and failure isn't an option.

I thought Darkness Eternal was a nice paranormal romance novella featuring several different types of supernaturals. I haven't read about vampires for awhile so this was a great reintroduction to them. Uriel and Kata make an interesting team. Uriel has his prejudices against Kata and his belief of her history, while she has her own against vampires. Together they have to work together to get out of Hell, but that's not going to happen without some major convincing on Uriels part. In the end, even with these two working together they may not get that happily ever after all. Some monsters still exist even after death.
There are sex scenes so 18+

This is quite a short story that is part of the Guardians of Eternity series but nevertheless packs a lot into the pages . It's been fun learning about these Immortal warriors and this time we get to learn a whole lot more about Uriel and the secret he hides. Sent to locate Kata who has been imprisoned for centuries by her own evil twin he has no idea that his world is about to come crashing down . Kata has no reason to trust anyone least of all a Vampire but when they find themselves quite literally sent to Hell it's work together or perish. Uriels secret curse is about to come back to haunt him but not before Kata tempts him like no other. Kata has a very good reason to despise Vampires and Uriel does not trust Kata but with a little help ( hindrance?) from a demon they are forced to work together and face death and what lies beyond!
Ok this is short but it's a very good story with lots going on. Yes we have Vampires and Demons but there's also the addition of the tricky Jiinn to add more to the plot line and it's not something that sits well with our hero. Both the hero and heroine have to shrug off their prejudices if they are to survive and if I had a slight grouch it would be a lack of a reunion between mother and daughter at the end but that's a minor quibble.i do prefer longer stories but I believe this was previously part of the anthology Supernatural so that explains the brevity. Short, hot, full of twists and very entertaining. Ms Ivy has penned an amazing series and this just wets my appetite for more.

DARKNESS ETERNAL is short, sweet, sexy and engaging. What more can you ask for in a novella? Uriel and Kata aren't exactly a match made in heaven given their differences. Kata has a justifiable dislike for vampires and Uriel has been sent to save her whether he wants to or not. Yet as every romance reader knows the prejudices and differences held by the main characters makes the best tension filled and exciting coming togethers. DARKNESS ETERNAL manages to have a bit of action, suspense and romance all within a very short read. You really don't need to have read the previous books to enjoy this one so it is a perfect quick paranormal fix!

let me start by saying I love this series & will be saddened to see it end. I loved seeing Uriel find his HEA and that the "curse" wasn't what he thought it was. This was a great short read. Was happy to see that Marika got was coming to her. I would have liked a reunion with Kata and Laylah and some interaction between the two. I loved Yannah, made me smile more than once.

I rec'd a copy from NetGalley for an honest review.

A sweet novella featuring Uriel, the second to Victor, vampire lord of London and Kata, Laylah's mother.

While attempting to rescue Kata from her prison, Uriel finds himself tossed into the underworld with Kata because of a spell by her sister. They are forced to face Marika and fight for their lives.

It was a lovely, quick read that helped clear up some of the mystery around Laylah's parents and Uriel's past. Plus, you get an awesome ending for Marika. I especially enjoyed her comeuppance!

In Devoured by Darkness, we got Tane and Laylah's story and it was a big exciting one that took them to many places in their quest. In the story, intriguing side characters are introduced and off scene adventures take place that can only be mentioned in passing. I was very pleased to see that the author went back and provided Uriel and Kata's adventure in this quick novella-length story.

Uriel is the second in command to the vampire chieftain of Great Britain. He gave up his place as warrior to oversee others and take on training the younger vampires. He also carries around a burdensome secret that until now no one knew about. However, with the new order from his clan chief to go rescue Layla's gypsy mother, he must come clean with Victor. He has an aversion toward the Jinn and anyone associated after his own encounter a few centuries back and Laylah's mother had been with a jinn to produce Laylah. Only his first sight of Kata, makes his assignment suddenly personal and he realizes that he has found the one woman for him right when what he holds secret won't allow him to do anything about it.

Kata is equally prejudiced against vampires since her beloved twin sister became a fiend when she became one. Marakita tortured Kata for two centuries and planned to use Laylah to bring about world domination. Now, her reluctant rescuer turns out to be a vampire with the face of an angel and Marakita isn't done trying to hurt Kata. Uriel might not have wanted the assignment, but now he is her protector and her heart wishes that he can be more.

The thrilling danger and fast-paced excitement is all that I've come to expect from this series. The sparks and snark fly between Uriel and Kata as they circle each other warily in the beginning. Their romance is pretty fast to develop because of the short page count like its on double speed, but I still found it a good part to the story. Yannah's appearance offers some humor to the story as she pops in and out throughout being the mysterious guide to the pair.

In the end, I was satisfied with the level of development in the plot, the fun romance, and exciting action. I enjoyed this minor story in the series as we come up on the release of the final book in the series. Paranormal Romance fans who like a story balanced more toward action and lesser on the character driven side yet loaded with spicy romance and exciting characters should give this series a try.

My thanks to Kensington and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this story in exchange for an honest review.

To tell you the truth, I had no idea that the author was planning on releasing a novella for the Guardians of Eternity series, not that I’m complaining. Darkness Eternal should be read after Devoured by Darkness (Layla and Tane’s story) and before Bound by Darkness (Ariyal and Jaelyn’s story).

As Victor’s right hand, Uriel can’t but follow his master’s orders. So, when Victor orders him to find and rescue Layla’s mother, Uriel must obey.

Held prisoner by her evil vampire twin for 400 years, Kata has finally found the means to escape only to fall into another vampire’s hands. As if that wasn’t enough, Kata is literally thrown into hell and if she wants to survive she must learn to trust Uriel. Only if they work together will they be able to survive hell.

A suspenseful romantic short story about two souls who have been through a lot. Uriel is a loyal, strong, determined alpha male who would never fail his master and friend Victor. It may have started as a mission but it turned into something that neither Uriel nor Kata expected. All Kata ever wanted was her freedom and a chance to meet her daughter. Despite what her sister did to her, Kata’s spirit never weakened. So, when Uriel tags along to the journey through hell, Kata isn’t sure if she should trust him. After being alone for so long, Kata yearns to be touched but is Uriel the right choice? Little does she know that Uriel has his own secrets…

This isn’t only a romantic story. It also has a lot of action as it follows Kata and Uriel’s journey through hell and their trust issues.

What I also loved was seeing Victor. I had forgotten how much I loved Victor and Juliet and this book gave me the excuse I needed to re-read their story, Yours for Eternity. Moreover, if you’re a new reader of the series then I definitely recommend reading this novella as it will prepare you for Bound by Darkness.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book!

Totally recommended!

Kata was held by her ruthless, evil, turned vampire twin and her hope is none other Uriel, vampire warrior and second in command to his clan leader, is tasks with saving Kata.
Even though this is a novella, it is packed full of information. Its been a while since there has been vampires in the Eternity series and its great to see them come back Uriel and Kata make an interesting team. Uriel has his prejudices against Kata and his belief of her history, while she has her own against vampires. Yes we have Vampires and Demons but also addition of the wicked, tricky Jiinn to add more to the storyline and it's not something that sits well with our Uriel. Both the hero and heroine have to shrug off their prejudices if they are to live and if I anytime to gripe about, it would be a lack of a reunion between mother and daughter at the end but that’s really nothing. Hoping that will be addressed in a future book.
Really love this novella and cant wait to read more in the Eternity series.

I received this book as an ARC from Net Galley for my honest review

To say that I love this series and everything about Alexander Ivy is putting it very mildly. I received this book as an ARC but I have purchased many of her books as soon as they come out, so I am very thankful to have gotten this book as an ARC.

This book can be read with out having read the other books in the series. Darkness Eternal is a novella selling for 1.99 on Amazon right now which is a great price. This book is short, sweet and sexy and I definitely recommend it.

Kata has been held captive for over 400 hundred years only to be released into a situation she has no idea how to get out of. Luckily for her, Uriel is in the right place at the right time to help save the day.

Uriel is the 2nd in command to Victor, a very strong Vampire leader, and when his Master gives an order he knows that he can not refuse. Uriel has been tasked with finding Kata and bringing her back safely. When Uriel sees that things are about to get crazy he does want any sexy Vampire would do...follow along into uncharted territory to keep Kata safe.

This is very good book cant wait for the next book in the series

3.5-4 stars!
Another hit from Ms. Ivy! I love this series; it doesn't disappoint.
Uriel has been sent on a mission to retrieve Kata..who has been held prisoner by her twin sister for centuries. Uriel isn't a fan of the idea of saving Kata since she is the mother to half-bred/Jinn, Laylah. A curse was placed on Uriel centuries ago by the very Jinn that fathered Laylah.
After Uriel saves Kata, they are both hit with various obstacles to get home safely. Uriel soon discovers tht Kata is his true mate. Kata fights her feelings, not trusting Uriel, but they eventually come to terms with their feelings for one another.
Being that this is a novella, things happen very quickly. Kata is attracted to Uriel, doesn't trust him, etc..then whammo, they love one another: quick. They're a great team/great personalities. The ending felt rushed, but again, it's a novella.
Great quick read!

A quick paced short story that did deal with the novella curse to a certain point. They fell in love quickly but their situation (thrown into hell together running from her psychotic dead vampire twin sister) made me ok with how quickly they came together. That situation made their explosive passion believable and the fact that we are dealing with a vampire who can recognize his mate from almost the moment they meet justifies the relationships fast progression. With that said he wasn't anxious to embrace her as a mate at first. He had been cursed by a jinn (the same jinn that Kata was forced to be with 200 years before that allowed her to have her daughter Laylah). He didn't want to risk her but she knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to speak her mind. After being imprisoned by her evil twin for centuries she was ready to seize her happiness and not let someone else make the decision for her. It was enjoyable. I finished it in a few hours.

Amazing! Awesome Novella to get your attention!

Wow!! This novella was perfect from beginning to end! I wish that it was a full length book but I couldn’t put it down, no matter how hard I tried! The storyline was exciting and very well executed! It flowed from cover to cover and it was heart wrenching to find out I was done! Uriel & Cata’s story was perfection. I’m glad I followed the timeline and read the novellas before the next full length book. It was refreshing and I’m hoping that the author gets back into grabbing your attention right away in the full length books! Enjoy! PS Levet’s non appearance was sad, but I know he has not 1 but 2 upcoming novellas so excitement is building! Besides who can not love a knight in shining armor that is only 3 feet tall with beautiful wings and blows raspberries at all the aggressive dominant male characters and has every mate devoted to him!

I received an ARC of Darkness Eternal in exchange for a fair review--

Let me preface this by saying I have had the Guardians of Eternity on my bottomless TBR for quite some time. When I was given the opportunity to read this novella, I did so without reading the previous stories first, which is pretty unusual for me...

AND I AM KICKING MYSELF!!!! - Happily, it wasn't necessary to read the others in order to fall into this story. But if the others are anywhere near as fast-paced, exciting and sexy as this one, I will be running, not walking, to get started immediately.

Uriel is a vampire who has a strong sense of duty. When that duty forces him to find and help Kata, neither of them are thrilled about the situation. But they work together to protect each other and, naturally, their mutual attraction becomes more.

Now, I need to find the others ASAP....

A nice, quick read that was both sweet and hot, Darkness Eternal was a lovely novella and I liked it.

Both characters were great. Kata was willing to go through anything for her loved ones. Uriel was fierce in fighting and in loving. I liked them both.

The romance was lovely. Kata and Uriel had a spark from the start and it was great seeing them get a happy ending.

The plot was quick and the story was enjoyable. If you want a quick book that's worth the read, this is a book worth checking out.

Technically I've read this before. It's in the anthology Supernatural. I got it for the G. A. Aiken Dragon Kin story but I did read the other ones in there. But this was probably before I'd read Alexandra Ivy's Guardian series so most of this stuff made no sense to me at the time. Now it does. Lol

I would've given it 4 for the romance as usually the Guardians don't do well on the emotional connection and this actually did. The problem is that the plot suffered. They were just thrown along by the demon and djinn and had pretty much no decision in that themselves so the plot wasn't their's. It was all action there with no point or really good explanation. I was hoping that the end would give a better explanation but it didn't. Luckily half the book is them getting together so it ends up pretty good with sexy times. I was just hoping the end of the plot would come soon after they get together.

Uriel is right hand man to Victor the clan chief of Great Britain, putting him on call 24/7 doing whatever is needed to keep the clan safe. But he hadn’t realized that would mean he would find his mate and follow her into the underworld.

Lots of non-stop action going on but I got pulled through the story too fast.

Footnote: 1) We have a new oddball character along with Levet. I can’t wait to find out more about mysterious Yannah. Maybe the two of will get together. Hmmmm?

2) That ‘Death-in-a-box’ was a complete waste of a lot of money.

Fave scenes: Yannah’s first arrival, killing the phantom, the top three reason and shattering the worm.

Short novella, supposedly previously published

I actually forgot that I'd purchased this novella, but luckily I'd already read the book with the half blood Jinn female (can't remember which book), so I had the necessary background for this one. I generally don't bother with novellas, because I don't care for short stories. Somehow I ended up with this one, though--and it wasn't bad.

Although the romance and character development suffered because of its short length, it was still a sweet romance. As always with this series, adult reading due to sexual scenes. Although short, it had a decent plotline.

Ew. What is going on with this author. The last book and this one? I mean it started out with the male mate talking about another woman in his bed that tasted like champagne and some other gross stuff. How are we supposed to concentrate on the actual female lead when he’s talking nasty about so other random chicks he’s banging. Disgusting. Not worthy of a mate romance or this author. She usually respects mates and the fact that it’s all about them. Disappointed is an understatement. Grossed out is more accurate.

An extremely predictable, formulaic novella that was not nearly as satisfying as some of Ivy’s other works.

It’s hard to pinpoint the exact reason that this one did not hit the spot. Perhaps it has something to do with the plot being really weak.

The characters had potential but this was not realised and the author missed multiple opportunities to make readers care about said characters ultimate fate.

I read “Darkness Eternal” as part of the 'Supernatural anthology, not realising that it is part of the 'Guardians of Eternity' series.
It kind of works as a stand-alone but doesn't really have what it takes to be anything other than a workmanlike job.
Ancient Vampire warrior Uriel is tasked with rescuing a Gypsy with who has been pulling a Sleeping Beauty for four centuries,
He does, they have more adventures, fall in love, the end.
Thankfully it is short.

Kata has been held in Hell for four centuries. Uriel, a vampire, is trying to help her escape. They have an immediate connection, but Kata is not sure about it. She has suffered so long and doesn't want to make a mistake. Interesting characters and situations. Some steamy romance scenes as well. Very entertaining. Highly recommended.

I was familiar with this series, but it came the "Supernatural" book package. I thought it was good, but it didn't really brainwash me into thinking that this could happen like Larissa Ione demonican books can do. I probably won't seek out the rest of the books in this series.
