Some monsters are worth becoming. Some are worth loving.

On a dangerous isle where witches reign and werewolves prowl the shadows, elite hunter Olena has always been the deadliest. Her crossbow never misses. Her resolve never wavers. Until Valentyn—her first love and fiercest hunting partner—makes her question everything she believes about monsters and allies.
When her mother is sentenced to the notorious prison known as the Rock, Olena must risk it all to save her. The power she needs lies in forbidden spells and an unlikely alliance with the one person she swore to hell after their bitter breakup—Valentyn, whose darkest secrets could shatter the fragile trust rebuilding between them. But their burning desire may prove the most dangerous magic of all.

As ancient werewolf packs circle the isle's shores and her mother’s time runs out, Olena faces an agonizing choice—honor the hunter’s code that defines her life or surrender to the whispers of her heart and the allure of Valentyn’s promises. But the line between hunter and hunted is thinner than a blade and the wrong decision could either save the isle she's sworn to protect... or unleash a curse more savage than any beast she's ever faced.

Welcome to the isle, where duty bleeds, love burns, and destiny has teeth.

Okay, wow. This book completely pulled me in. The Curse Between Us was everything I wanted in a witch and wolf romantasy dark, emotional, a little twisted, and totally addictive. Tiffany Daune knows how to build tension, and I was living for every bit of it.

Olena is such a fierce FMC. She’ll do anything for the people she loves, even if it means facing down her own darkness, and I loved her for it. And Valentyn… ugh. Complicated, broody, and impossible not to care about. Their relationship had that perfect mix of tension, loyalty, and heartbreak that kept me glued to the pages.

It starts off a little slow while the world builds, but once it takes off, it’s wild. There are twists, betrayals, and moments that had me gasping. By the end I was just sitting there like, “please tell me there’s a book two.”

If you’re into witchy curses, werewolves, found-family vibes, and messy, emotional love stories then this one’s for you. I’m still not over that ending. Thanks to the nerd fam for the gifted arc.

Olena, Secrets, and a Heart That Won’t Stay Still

In ‘The Curse Between Us’, Olena lives on the island of Grimhaven, where witches rule and elite hunters maintain order. Within her stirs a dark creature that can only be appeased with an annual offering. But this year, something goes terribly wrong, putting not only Olena but also her fellow hunters in danger.

As if that weren’t enough, her heart has been shattered by Valentyn, her hunting partner, and her mother is trapped under a shadow’s curse. Determined to save her, Olena soon learns that the price may be higher than she ever imagined.

Tiffany Daune’s writing is vivid and atmospheric. She brings the world of Grimhaven to life with rich imagery and touches of recognizable realism. The concept feels fresh: an island ruled by witches, haunted by lurking werewolves, and patrolled by hunters burdened with a dark secret. As the story unfolds, layer by layer, the mystery surrounding Olena deepens. Told mainly from her perspective, the narrative occasionally shifts to Wolfsbane Major, adding welcome depth and nuance.

The romance is subtle, woven through emotions rather than explicit moments. It focuses on connection and heartbreak rather than passion, a choice that suits the tone of the story beautifully.

Olena is a compelling protagonist. Her inner struggle between duty and desire gives the story its emotional weight. Valentyn, though intriguing, could have benefited from a bit more depth; a clearer window into his thoughts and emotions would have made their bond even stronger.

‘The Curse Between Us’ is an original romantic fantasy, brimming with tension, darkness and forbidden magic. Perfect for readers who crave emotion, mystery and a touch of danger in a vividly imagined world. A must-read for fans of Sarah J. Maas (‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’), Holly Black (‘The Cruel Prince’) and Leigh Bardugo (‘Shadow and Bone’).

Thank you to The Nerd Farm for providing the ARC of ‘The Curse Between Us’.

**Nederlandse recensie**

Een aanrader voor fans van Sarah J. Maas (‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’), Holly Black (‘The Cruel Prince’) en Leigh Bardugo (‘Shadow and Bone’).

This had a bit of an eerie vibe to it which completely helped with the overall feel to the story. The world building is vivid and darkly enchanting, full of witches, curses, wolves, and dangerous secrets.

From the very beginning it was clear that Olena is absolutely the hunter here. She's completely driven by loyalty and a fierce determination that make her impossible not to root for.

The dynamic between Olena and Valentyn was weighed down by the dreaded miscommunication trope, which isn't my favorite tbh, but I did enjoy the tension and build it up it helped to provide.

Overall, this was a good start to a dark fantasy romance with an excellent twist at the end.

Overall an entertaining read with some decent twists and turns. The idea of being trapped on an island in a hunter vs hunted world with magic is intriguing.

The relationship between Olena and Valentyn was a bit perplexing and sometimes just plain aggravating. There's another character involved...and its never made clear and never quite makes sense.

Thank you to the nerd fam for a chance to read this book and share my opinion.

The Curse Between Us by Tiffany Daune immediately drew me in with a sense of mystery that set the tone for the entire story. From the very first chapter, I felt pulled into a world that promised secrets, danger, and romance. That strong opening made it very easy to lose myself in the book, and I found myself wanting to keep turning the pages to uncover what was happening beneath the surface.

One of the strongest elements of this novel is the romance between Olena and Valentyn. Their relationship develops slowly and deliberately, with just enough tension to keep you on edge while still delivering the emotional payoff you hope for. I loved how their dynamic grew with every interaction. It felt both natural and compelling, and by the time their connection truly blossomed, I was completely invested in them. For anyone who loves a slow burn romance that eventually sweeps you away, this book absolutely delivers.

The worldbuilding was another aspect I really appreciated. The isle where the story unfolds is revealed piece by piece, and even though some sections felt a little shallow at times, I enjoyed how the author allowed us to discover its mysteries gradually. There is a charm in uncovering the world step by step, almost like peeling back layers of a hidden history. It made the setting feel alive, even if I occasionally wished for a bit more depth.

I will admit that it took me a little while to get used to the writing style. The prose has a very distinct rhythm that sometimes feels almost like listening to someone think aloud. At first, it was unusual, but after a few chapters I settled into it, and by then it felt unique and fitting for the story. Once I adjusted, I appreciated that the style gave the narrative a more personal and introspective quality, which made me feel closer to the characters.

What stood out to me the most was how different this book felt compared to others I’ve read in the genre. The mix of mystery, romance, and supernatural elements like witches and werewolves gave it a refreshing originality. The pacing balanced high-intensity moments with slower, more reflective scenes, which kept me engaged while also giving me space to fully appreciate the unfolding relationships and world.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It gave me something new, something that stood apart from other romantasy’s I’ve read. If you are a fan of romance and fantasy with a touch of mystery, and if magical worlds filled with witches and werewolves spark your interest, then this book is absolutely worth picking up. For me, it was a solid four-star read that I can easily recommend to others who enjoy fantasy romance with a unique twist.

I really loved the premise of this book and was excited to dig in. Witch x Werewolf & hunter x hunted - say less!

I liked the world building and the slow burn as we slowly discover more about what is going on. The Isle of Grimhaven is not what you expect - there are tourists, hunters and witches….and what is really important to understand is that the hunters hunt wolves…except every hunter has a dormant wolf that could turn them into the hunted at any time.

This is not a book where everything is very clear…you get little bits here and there and have to put the whole picture together.

Valentyn and Olena have such good tension - but also he has a secret. if you love a badass FMC, you are going to love Olina! I don’t want to tell you anything else. This does end on a cliffhanger and I am excited to see where this story goes!

✨What To Expect:
⚔️Romantasy
🐺Witch x Werewolf
❤️‍🔥Enemies to Lovers
✌️Second Chance
🖤Dark Academia
🚫Forbidden
🌙Ancient Magic
🏹Badass FMC

Set in a haunting coastal town where secrets rule, this story follows hunters locked in a deadly battle with a vicious wolf pack called the Howlers but the true danger may be the darkness within themselves. At its core are Olena and Valentyn two hunters bound by love and fate, torn between duty and desire. Olena’s fierce determination to save her mother and Valentyn’s unwavering devotion make them unforgettable. Rich worldbuilding, dark magic, and a clash between witches and werewolves keep the tension high. With slow-burn romance, emotional depth, and twists that won’t let you go, this is a 5-star read. Expect secrets, betrayal, and a cliffhanger that will leave you desperate for the sequel. A must-read for fans of dark fantasy and star-crossed love!

this was so good I literally couldnt put it down. The way the entire story was build was had me glued to the pages, there was not a single boring moment.
I genuinely loved Olena as a main character, she was incredibly relatable. She was also insanely head-strong in all her decisions.
Valentyn was such a good male lead. We love a man that yearns. His eyes were on O and O only.
Overall devoured this, I really need book 2 asap please!!!

This is a great book, the vision of the story is told magnificently, The craving of one's touch even though they had broken your heart is so cruel, but believable. the wanting to save your loved ones is something we can all understand even in a fantasy landscape. I will be buying the physical copy as soon as it is released, and recommending it. The cliffhanger is great, it leaves you wanting more. I could not put it down.

3.5 Star middle to end of the book was great!

I won't lie, because I like honest reviews. The beginning of this book almost turned me away from the book - Olena is still very in love and pining for her MMC Valentyn and for various reasons I won't give away is not with him. However for the first few chapters that seems to be every other sentence, a spiral of her missing him - which doesn't leave much room for the islands backstory/world building.

BUT once the book starts moving it draws you in and you pick up the missing pieces of the backstory. You start to unravel the mystery of the Witches, Werewolves, and the Hunters with a whole new take on the witch/werewolf genre.

The story unfolds with newfound trust, love, and a surprise ending that will leave you wanting book 2!

“Some monsters are worth becoming. Some are worth loving.” 🩸

The Curse Between Us was a dark, fast-paced fantasy filled with witches, werewolves, forbidden magic, and heartbreak on every page. Set on a dangerous isle where duty bleeds and destiny has teeth, this story followed Olena — an elite hunter sworn to keep her own inner wolf asleep. Her crossbow never missed, her resolve never faltered… until Valentyn, her first love and fiercest partner, returned with secrets that could destroy everything she believed in. 💔

When Olena’s mother was sentenced to the notorious prison known as the Rock, she had no choice but to turn to forbidden spells — and to Valentyn, the one person she swore she’d never trust again. Their journey together was tense, emotional, and tangled with old wounds and lingering desire. I really loved the idea of the hunter becoming the hunted — that inner conflict was such a powerful theme throughout. 🐺✨

The worldbuilding felt rich and haunting, with witches reigning over the isle, werewolves prowling in the shadows, and magic that was both beautiful and dangerous. However, I did feel like the book dropped me in the middle of a story already in motion — I kept waiting for more context about why hunters had to suppress their wolves or what truly made shifting so forbidden. There were moments I wished for a bit more clarity and emotional depth between the chaos of the plot. 📜

The lyrical writing style was one of my favorite parts — it had a fairytale darkness to it that fit the atmosphere perfectly. The friendships, the emotional tension, and the hints of something bigger lurking under the surface gave the story an almost cinematic quality. And the artwork? Absolutely gorgeous. The chapter headers (even in the ebook!) added such a magical touch. 🕯️

I couldn’t fully connect with the characters the way I hoped to, but I admired Olena’s strength and stubborn heart. Valentyn was a mystery I wanted to untangle — his secrets made the story feel layered and bittersweet. I think if some of the lore had been woven in more naturally, the emotional beats could have landed harder. Still, the world and the themes of love, betrayal, and transformation kept me intrigued till the very end. 💫

If you love dark fantasy romances with forbidden magic, second chances, and slow-burning tension, this might be for you.

The Curse Between Us was an interesting read. The book is told from the FMC’s, Olena, POV. I am not going to lie, I found her insufferable for the first quarter of the book. Every time her ex-boyfriend, Valentine, appeared on the page she was pining. He cheaters on her months ago. They were childhood friends turned lovers, and I tried to extend the character that grace. I just kept thinking, ““Could never be me pining for someone who broke my trust…”

Further into the book, more is reveiled about what she is going through and she doesn’t seem so whiny. Olena and Valentine are werewolf hunters in the same squad. After Olena’s mother is accused of betraying the island, Olena is stripped of her role as a hunter.

With the island turning against her, she vows to help her mother before she is transferred to a prison her mother will not survive. She realizes that her only path forward is joking forces with Valentine.

The slow start to the book is balanced by the last 30% of the book being extremely fast paced with some twists and turns. I am looking foreward to seeing where the story will go next!

Pre-read thoughts:
Lately I’ve been in a werewolf mood—probably thanks to all those Facebook and IG “read by the chapter” ads that keep popping up. I always start them knowing I’ll never actually finish 😅 so when I saw the ARC for The Curse Between Us, I was excited to finally dive into a full story instead of snippets. From the title and premise, I was expecting lots of werewolves—and couldn’t wait for all the supernatural drama that comes with them.

Post-read review:

4 ⭐️

It’s been a long time since a book kept me up past midnight. Between sheer exhaustion and a packed October, I haven’t found a story that truly pulled me in—until this one. From the first page, The Curse Between Us grabbed me with its fast-paced plot, the tension between Olena and Valentyn, and the mystery surrounding Grim Haven and her mother.

Though there are mentions of werewolves and “howlers,” the story barely scratches the surface of who they are or why there’s such a rift between them and the witches. I’m really hoping book two dives deeper into that lore—it feels like there’s a whole world waiting to be explored.

The story opens mid-hunt, with Olena and Valentyn forced to work together despite their complicated history. As the chapters unfold, their past and heartbreak slowly come to light, revealing how they broke apart even though the love and longing between them still run deep.

The magic system is a fascinating mix—herbs, potions, pills called shine, ink magic, and heightened senses—all woven into a dark, gritty world. While the plot is full of action and suspense, I did wish for a bit more depth in the side characters and Olena’s backstory, especially her connection to her mother and aunt. But since this is the first in a series, I’m hopeful we’ll get that in book two.

What really carried this book for me was the ache between Olena and Valentyn. Their chemistry and yearning practically leapt off the page. I went in with low expectations, ended up completely engrossed, and now I’m just frustrated that book two isn’t out yet. Will they finally break the curse—or are they doomed to repeat it? I’ll definitely be waiting to find out.

The Curse Between Us by Tiffany Daune was everything! We have a dark and twisted romantasy with a witch, a werewolf, and full of TENSION.

The story quickly pulls you in and refuses to release you. Dune knows how to build tension and an element of mystery that literally sets a tone for the remainder of the story. From the very opening of the book I was immediately drawn in because of how strong the story begins. I was eagerly turning the page and I couldn't get enough.

One of my favorite aspects of the novel is the romance. The relationship between Valentyn and Olena develops slowly and deliberately, filled with tension that will literally keep you on edge of your seat. But Oh it's worthwhile for the delivery packed. I especially loved how their dynamic grew with every interaction. A nice slow burn romance that blossomed into a true connection leaving it feeling natural , believable, and compelling. And leaving the reader completely invested.

The worldbuilding was also well done. If you are a reader who needs the worldbuilding completely given/ explained to you from the start this may not be your favorite worldbuilding experience. Simply put because the isle where the story is set is revealed piece by piece. Some areas/ aspects may not seem fully developed at first but that's because the author intentionally wrote it so that we could discover the mystery of it gradually. It made me feel like i was discovering it right alongside the character. Those tiny details, for me, made me feel better immersed into and connected to the story. It left an impact on me for sure.

There is magic, twists, betrayals, and moments that had me gasping. As the secrets unravel and you reach the end of the book and development of their connection you are left sitting there wondering why did you even read this without having book 2 at your fingertips!

If you’re into witches, curses, werewolves, found-family vibes, betrayal, secrets, tension, mystery, and learning as the characters learn in emotional dark romantasy..... then this one’s for you. I’m still not over that ending.

I received this book as an ARC from The Nerd Fam. This was my first book by Tiffany Daune; I wasn’t familiar with her writing style. I’m not sure if all her books are like this, but I found this one very interesting.

This book follows Olena, a werewolf hunter trying to keep her own wolf asleep so the "Hunter" doesn’t become the "Hunted". Valentyn, Olena’s first love, partner and friend, is carrying a terrible secret that could unravel Olena’s entire world as she knows it. When Olena’s mother falls under a shadow curse and she’s running out of time to help her.

This book feels like it starts in the middle of the book. There are so many things that we are left to figure out. I felt like I was constantly missing important information. Why were the hunters required to suppress their shifts? What was so bad about shifting that it was a death sentence?

This book has rich world and intriguing ideas, but I found it hard to stay engaged. I felt like there were too many plot holes. The lore drops often competed for attention with the plot and I felt that it often interrupted tense moments that could have been heightened instead, they seemed to fall flat. The story line itself was interesting with the werewolves and witches; I think it had real potential. The flashbacks were a little helpful, but I think if the reveal at the end came a little sooner or there were more hints to it throughout, it would have helped bring the story together.

The last 25-30% of the book saved the book for me. The cliffhanger ending was a great touch and left me curious about what happens next. Will I read the second book in this duology, I’m not sure… but I really hope that the author writes more of a cohesive book that ties everything together in more of a connected way.

Rate: 3/5⭐️⭐️ ⭐️

Wow—what a ride! This book is a magical, fast-paced tale of light versus dark, witches against werewolves, and the dangerous struggle to control the beast within.

The story unfolds in a haunting coastal town, where secrets shape the lives of every supernatural who calls it home. Hunters relentlessly pursue a vicious pack of wolves known as the Howlers—but the greater threat may be the hunters themselves, who risk becoming the very monsters they fight.

At the heart of it all are Olena and Valentyn—two hunters bound by love, torn by destiny, and forced to battle both external enemies and the inner darkness threatening to consume them. Olena is a fierce, determined FMC willing to risk everything to save her mother. Valentyn is a powerful, protective MMC whose devotion to Olena makes him unforgettable.

The clash between witches and werewolves is steeped in history, with glimpses of the past woven seamlessly into the present. The worldbuilding is rich, the magic system inventive, and the characters emotionally compelling. Add in slow-burn romance, gut-punch angst, and twists that keep you guessing, and you have a story that refuses to let go.

Expect secrets, betrayal, and revelations that will leave you reeling. And just when you think you might get a happy ending—the cliffhanger hits, making the wait for the sequel all the more agonizing.

Although I received a free copy of this novel, I am reviewing it here so others know what a great 5-⭐️ read it truly is! If you love dark magic, star-crossed love, and supernatural intrigue, this one belongs on your shelf. I can’t wait for the next installment!

Welcome to the isle, where duty bleeds, love burns, and destiny has teeth!

Characters:
Olena is a well-rounded character that truly grows throughout the story. Going into this book I was worried that she was going to be a “I’m so strong but everyone always has to save me” girl and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Not only can she hold her own but she doesn’t let others hold her back either.

The romance between Olena and Valentyn was a lovely slow burn for me. I enjoyed their development together throughout the book.

My favourite relationship has to be the undying love between Olena and her mother though! Olena was willing to go to the mat time and time again for her Mama.

Plot:
The story was fast-paced, gripping and twisty through the entire journey. You never truly knew what was going to happen next. The pace was well set for most of the book however it was a little slow in the 2/5 to 4/5 marks, but it didn’t subtract from the drive to read it too much.

The lore around the witches and werewolves within this novel was rather interesting and thoroughly explored, aiding in the overall storyline of the book.

The mixture of writing between present tense and flashbacks didn’t get overly confusing like a lot of other books, and it kept you guessing and engaged in the story. Well-done Tiffany.

Overall:
Overall, this story was fun, engaging and just the right level of romance and family feels for me. While it could do with a little bit more pace work I am excited to continue the series and see what the author has in store for book two!

4/5 stars
spice: 2.5
chemistry: 5
cliffhanger: 4
emotional damage: 3

Tropes:
Magical orders (werewolves & witches)
Love triangle
Second chance romance
Hidden/ancient magic
Dual timelines
Found family
Betrayal/Jealousy
Magical academy (though this isn't a focal point)

There’s something beautifully feral about The Curse Between Us—a story dripping in atmosphere, heartbreak, and longing that hits like a thunderstorm over dark water.

What I loved:
The tension between Olena and Val is electric ⚡️. Even when they’re on opposite sides of their duty and pain, the chemistry is undeniable. Their shared history aches off the page, and you feel how much is left unsaid.

The miscommunication between them initially felt strained, especially since it’s clear they never stopped loving each other, but it becomes clear as the story unfolds that there are deeper secrets at play.

I was left intrigued and a little haunted, convinced there’s much more to uncover in future installments.
The world of Grimhaven is fascinating, and I hope the author dives further into the rules of the magic system our main characters find themselves tangled in.

Ok—those twists! There were multiple, one that blindsided me completely and another I half-suspected, but both landed perfectly and left me eager for more.

Final thoughts:
A moody, romantic, and sharp-edged fantasy perfect for readers who love stories about love, duty, and the monsters that live behind both.

This book completely swept me away. From the very first chapter, I felt pulled into a world that was both magical and deeply emotional. Tiffany Daune has a way of writing that makes you feel the weight of love, sacrifice, and longing, while still giving you moments of beauty and hope that keep you turning the pages.

What stood out the most to me was the chemistry between the characters. Their connection felt natural and powerful, and it wasn’t just about romance—it carried a sense of fate, of something bigger than themselves. I loved how their relationship was layered, with tenderness, tension, and moments that made me ache for them.

The world itself is vivid and enchanting, and while I sometimes wished for a little more detail in places, it didn’t take away from the emotional pull of the story. If anything, the focus on the characters made their journey feel more intimate and personal.

Yes, there are some areas where the pacing slows down, but honestly, I didn’t mind. It gave me time to breathe with the story, and by the end, I was so invested that I didn’t want it to finish.

Overall, The Curse Between Us is a story about love in the face of impossible odds, and it left me with that warm, lingering feeling you get when you’ve been on a journey that touched your heart. If you’re someone who loves romance woven with magic, destiny, and a touch of heartbreak, this book is absolutely worth picking up.

Wow, this book completely pulled me in once it got going. It starts off a little slow, giving you time to settle into the world, but once the story picks up, it really grabs hold and doesn’t let go. The author’s world-building is absolutely fantastic — everything feels rich, layered, and alive. You can tell a lot of care went into creating this universe and its magic system.

The tension between the characters? Chef’s kiss. You can practically feel it humming off the page. The mystery throughout the story kept me guessing, and every time I thought I had it figured out, there was another twist waiting.

Olena, the main character, completely stole the show for me. She’s fierce, clever, and doesn’t back down from anything. I love a strong FMC who can hold her own, and Olena fits that perfectly. Then there’s Valentyn — the chemistry between them is slow-building but so worth it. It’s that kind of delicious, drawn-out connection where every glance and touch makes you want to scream, “Just kiss already!”

This book has everything I love: dark magic, mystery, danger, and star-crossed lovers trying to defy fate. It’s one of those reads that lingers with you long after the last page, and honestly, I didn’t want it to end. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for what this author writes next.

🌙 🐺The Curse Between Us by Tiffany Daune🐺🌙

Spice: 🌶️
Rating: 2.5

🌙 Synopsis:
On the isle of Grimhaven, Olena is a hunter tasked at keeping the island safe from werewolves, and yet one may be awakening inside herself. When her mother is cursed by dark magic, Olena will do anything to save her, even seek out forbidden magic and the help of her ex, the man who betrayed her—Valentyn. But as time runs out to save her mother, someone is watching her and sending her secret messages making Olena question everything, and everyone, she knows.

🌙 Thoughts:
I enjoyed the lyrical writing, friendships, and dark atmosphere of this book. And the artwork was gorgeous! There are gorgeous chapter headers in this book, even in the e-book! I did find the writing and storytelling a bit confusing at times, like I was reading a sequel without having read book one. Some concepts were not as well developed or explained, such as why the hunters were hunting werewolves and suppressing their wolves, what happened to Olena’s mother, or what happened between Olena and Valentyn. The story was very immersive and fast paced, and the twist at the end was fun! If you enjoy darker fantasy romances with strong main characters, this one is for you!

It all started in 1899…🔥

This story is different from the other werewolf and witch books that I have read which is what ensnared me. It is full of unique magic, curses, secrets/twists, betrayal and love. Not to mention we have a sinister villain. Olena is a very stubborn FMC that drove me crazy but the storyline was worth dealing with her. Story starts off slow but builds into a suspenseful read.

The story takes place on an isle ran by witches and where hunters take down blood thirsty werewolves. Olena is a loyal dedicated hunter that believes in what they do to keep order. Her life was thrown into despair all in one night. Now her mom is in a coma, her heart is broken by Valentyn and now she has a heavy secret to carry that no one can ever find out. The hunters must give an annual offering to keep their inner darkness asleep. Offerings that are written in a book a must be burned in the end. But secrets have a way of emerging. Secrets that could unravel everything the hunters were taught to believe. Olena begins to receive ominous messages that could ruin her. She strikes a bargain to awaken her mother. She needs to decipher these strange realistic dreams. She is not sure if she can keep her feelings in check with Valentyn. She must figure out what Aunt Zoya is keeping from her. Such a busy hunter.

Book left on a cliffhanger. Looking forward to book 2.

I still can’t decide if I love or hate cliffhanger endings but this one definitely has me excited for the next book with a whole flurry of reveals happening on the last couple pages that I can’t wait to see what happens next! This is the beginning of a series following a FMC hunter who suppresses her werewolf side and hunts down those who have allowed their werewolf to be released. You end up diving into the story in the middle of the conflict of both her ex having cheated on her and her mother being in a coma from potentially betraying their coven, and because of this, the book is action packed right from the jump.

I enjoyed reading the different time jumps and the journal entries at the tops of each chapter that helped give some background and hinted at reveals yet to come. I also enjoyed the moral dilemma of facing down your friends when they succumb to their werewolf side and if killing them is truly the right thing to do or just what they’ve been raised and trained since childhood for. There was also the will they won’t they and tension between her and her ex that kept me flipping through pages waiting to see what she would decide and if they would act on their feelings. Overall I enjoyed this quick but exciting read, my rating 4.4/5!

Did this book confuse me? Yes. Did this book piss me off? Yes. Did I stay up hiding under my blanket to not disturb my husband while I sneakily finished it until 2am? Also yes.

For fans of One Dark Window, this book is definitely for those who love the fight between who we want to be and the monster inside.

Olena is a hunter from the isle of Grimhaven, where everyone there is a witch, hunter, or tourist. Witches are witches, tourists are unimportant, but things get interesting when you look at the hunters. Hunters are trained at the academy to hunt werewolves, and sacrifice their heads to stay safe. But hunters are created when a pregnant witch makes eye contact with a werewolf and it eats their shadow. Hunters have the wolf inside them, dormant, lying in wait, and live with the fear that once it breaks loose, they will become the hunted.

Olena dreads this more than the others, because she has a secret, and it is tearing her up inside more than the monster is. Dealing with the fallout of Valentyn's (the love of her life) betrayal, her mother's accident, and her new life as a pariah because of her mother's crimes, she also has to deal with a mysterious texter threatening to spill he secrets.

This book was convoluted and confusing in a way that lends mystery to the story. As the reader you learn about certain things with the FMC, but some things you also have to piece together from the FMC's narration just dropping hints. We knew she had a secret, but it takes a while for us as the reader to even find out what it is. We know that even though she longs for Valentyn and they had a past relationship, for some reason Olena can't be with him.

Because of the confusion, it took me to about 20% to really get into the book, but once I did..... Oooo I tore through it. More than anything else though, I really loved Tiffany's writing style. She has a way of saying and describing things that was so dark and whimsical. Definitely recommend, and can't wait for book 2.

As a huge fan of werewolf and witch stories, I was immediately intrigued by this book—and it didn’t disappoint. It delivers a fresh and fascinating take on the politically charged power balance between the two supernatural factions.

I’ll admit, it took me a little while to settle into the world. The story drops you right into the action with minimal backstory, which can feel disorienting at first. But once the world-building clicks and the threads start coming together, the plot becomes completely addictive. By the time I reached the final chapters, I was fully invested—and the twist at the end genuinely shocked me. It was not at all what I expected!

There’s an engaging layer of mystery woven throughout as the FMC uncovers long-buried secrets about her past and family, all while concealing truths of her own to protect those she loves. I’m also a total sucker for a good second-chance romance, and I found myself wholeheartedly rooting for the FMC and MMC to find their way back to each other. And the spice? Absolutely worth the wait.

The book ends on a serious cliffhanger—so consider yourself warned—but it sets up the next installment perfectly. I can’t wait to see where this series goes next.

The following review is my honest opinion:

This is my first book by this author. I love witches and werewolves, and a good curse is always a plus so I was excited to have the chance to read The Curse Between Us. It's dark, and atmospheric and has a really interesting world once the story gets going good. It feels as if there is a bit of the story missing, like more information or some of the backstory about the FMC Olena and her mother, as well as Valentyne and his past relationship with Olena.

Aside from that I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next one to come out so that I can find out what happens next. The twist was not anything I anticipated, which I LOVE, and there is a bit of a cliffhanger so I am hoping that we won't have long to wait. I do hope that the next book will go into more detail, and give us some more backstory on the characters, mostly because I'm nosy, lol.

The spice level was good in my opinion, and I really love a second chance romance. The tension between Olena and Valentyne was delicious and the pacing was pretty good in my opinion.

I enjoyed the writing and the story, and I fully intend to check out her series The Siren Chronicles.

I really wanted to love this book more. But it jumped around a lot, and felt really fast paced.

Take the ending for example. I won't give spoilers, but I will say that the main character wanted to go do something. The other people she was with mentioned they'd remain behind. Then the next chapter, they're all together as in they didn't split up. And the FMC didn't want to split up, she even mentioned it.
There's another part at the end where she's all of a sudden going through multiple memories on a phone. How did get the phone? Who mentioned memories? And somehow there's stones involved? I'm sorry. But it doesn't make sense. The time jumping is not my favorite, especially when you throw things in that don't make sense. It just felt super rushed.

I did however, like the FMC. Olena is a badass woman who knows exactly what she wants. She gets confused around her ex which is understandable, but she still sticks to herself. Even if she's secretly hoping he'll text her and show up, she still knows that it's a bad idea.

Also, their relationship didn't make sense either? Like, does he love her? Does he want Eve? Lots of things either went right over my head, or didn't stick out.

I will thank the Nerd Fam though for a copy of this book. The Nerd Fam always helps out 🙌🏼

I really enjoyed this book—it pulled me in right away with its dark, moody atmosphere and high stakes. The world of Grimhaven feels vivid and dangerous, with beasts, curses, and werewolf packs circling the edges of every scene. Olena is a fierce, complicated heroine, and I liked how her strength is constantly tested against her vulnerability and grief. The tension between her and Valentyn (the ex-lover-turned-reluctant-ally) was one of the highlights for me—there’s that perfect mix of bitterness, longing, and unhealed wounds that makes enemies-to-lovers stories so addictive.

The pacing in the first half was especially strong—I flew through those chapters. Toward the middle, I did feel like things got a bit repetitive with some of the internal monologue and circling around the same secrets. But the last stretch definitely picked back up, and the ending left me both satisfied and curious about what comes next.

If you like morally gray characters, dangerous magic, and a romance that feels like it could burn the whole world down, this is definitely worth picking up. It reminded me a lot of From Blood and Ash but with a sharper, more mythic edge.

The Curse Between Us by Tiffany Daune is a shining example of why readers love romantasy. This book ropes you in from the very first page and never lets go. Daune’s writing is crisp, expressive, and builds atmosphere with every sentence—making the world of witches and wolves feel utterly immersive. The story moves at a fantastic pace, driven by magnetic characters whose secrets and yearning set the tone for an adventure full of tension and heart.
There’s something innately addictive about the enemies-to-lovers dynamic here—the emotional stakes are high, and each twist in the plot brings new depth to the characters. The gothic vibes layer through every chapter and the romantic tension is perfectly balanced by moments of real vulnerability and trust. I found myself wholly invested in their fate, needing to know what happens next.
Tiffany Daune’s skill as a storyteller shines in the way she builds suspense and delivers powerful moments again and again. The Curse Between Us is beautifully written, emotionally rich, and impossible to put down. Five glowing stars—don’t miss it if you crave atmospheric magical romance
