Logan McByrne enjoys working at his construction company, drinking beer with his buddies, and sex with no strings attached…usually in that order. When his occasional hook-up, the gargoyle Geoffrey, gets too serious, Logan heads to Oregon for a working vacation at his friend, Zander’s ranch. On a hunting expedition to thin a large pack of coyotes that have been terrorizing his buddy’s goat herds, he runs into the last thing he expects, a group of wolf shifters. Zander panics, there are shots fired, and Logan is blamed for a stray bullet that hits one of the wolves.
James Jimmy Noleander is the beta of the Tamang wolf pack. While he never expected meeting his mate would grant him an immediate happily ever after, he never in his wildest dreams thought his mate would shoot him. Jimmy wants to forgive his mate, but there are laws in place and restitution must be made. On top of that, Jimmy discovers that a jealous gargoyle is on Logan’s tail and Logan has commitment issues. Can Jimmy keep Logan safe, figure out a way to convince Logan of the benefits of mating, while finding suitable reparation that won’t drive his mate away?
I found this to be one of the stronger books of this series. First of all, while gargoyles are mentioned, they are not one half of the couple in question. Considering the series title, some diversity is definitely welcome!
I didn't feel bogged down with a huge amount of his human, his mate, etc. Yes they are used but without counting I can say that its not used excessively back to back that I noticed. Moving on, Logan is a very strong character, taking responsibility for dubious actions to protect a friend. He feels very strongly about silence and support surrounding paranormals seeing how affected his friends have been.
Jimmy...while he has a strong position in the pack, due to his injuries I don't feel like we get an accurate feeling of him since he's mostly laid up during the book. Speaking of injuries, he seemed to take a lot longer to heal than I would have expected.. even going so far as to develop an infection.. something unheard of that I remember in Charlie Richard's Shifter Universe (Wolves of Stone Ridge, Kontra's Menagerie, Paranormal's Love at the very least). I think having him get better sooner and seeing him in his 'natural' persona would have been beneficial.
The Zander/Vampire thing was kind of a bust. The big mystery wasn't that big of a deal, not even considered to be a bad guy. Then throw in the gargoyle, which didn't make sense to me. Gargoyles should be able to CLEARLY make out their mate, along with other paranormal beings, so HOW could he mistakenly think Logan was his? And if he thought so and he was an honorable gargoyle (which in fact he turned out to be) why wouldn't he have discussed instead of assumed concerning Logan?
So a few things didn't fall into place but the characters..or at least Logan.. came out feeling strong for the most part for me. Enjoyable read.
When humans Logan and Zander are trying to track down the coyotes who keep killing Zander's goats they come across a couple of shifters. Logan, already knowing that gargoyles and shifters exist, doesn't panic. However, Zander having no clue they exist, panics. When one of the shifters is shot Logan takes the blame. The twist is that Logan turns out to be the mate to the shifter that was shot. His request for restitution of being shot is that Logan stay with him and help him while he recovers.
A couple of Charlie Richards books have caught my eye recently, but being they're not on KU I wasn’t sure I wanted to take a chance and buy a book from a new-to-me author. Especially when it's $4.99 for a book that's only about 100 pages. I finally bit the bullet and bought this one. I'm regretting it a bit.
While I liked both MC's, there just wasn't really any spark between the characters. I didn’t feel they had chemistry and worse I felt no emotion and didn't really care about either of them. The story itself was on the boring side too. It just wasn't my thing I guess.
I do like the spin on things created by having a human who has some knowledge about mating thrown together with a pretty much unconscious mate and other shifters. The way he recognizes the mating urges despite their not being something he could have expected to experience in his life.
The whole issue of restitution, however, irritates me. Accidents are not taken into account now? Is this merely to facilitate plot? Because if that’s some weird shifter law then they’re all insane in my humble opinion. To call it inhuman will probably sound ridiculous, given the circumstances, but it sure as hell is impractical.
Eh, neither am I a fan of the way Logan immediately drifts into thoughts of good looks and sex when .
On the whole this volume didn’t feel as rushed as the majority of the books in the connected series. I pretty much liked it, even if several aspects were weak (such as , &c).
And I am still tickled that the author these days is spelling pecs correctly every single time. Next up on the agenda: prejudice is a noun; the adjective is prejudiced.
I hated the way Logan dealt with Geoffrey.. And everything is like cocked up in this book.. I hate characters who dumped their lovers just because the person cared.. Heartless..
Although the title listed "Restitution From His Mate" I didn't really get the restitution being fulfilled. The author mentioned it once... I guess that's all it took to fulfilled the restitution. I was a little confused how Jimmy's healing was handle the way a normal humans healing would've been handle. In the shifter's world I was under the impression from previous books all someone had to do was shift to sped up the healing process. No one ever mentioned to Jimmy to shift. Not Abbot, Richard, or Dr. Perseus all who are paranormals & understand shifter healing.
Juarez the vampire to me did not need that much attention in the story. It took away from the story and plot other than leading to Geoffrey finding his mate in Zander I think.... again not really clarified in the story. On the whole this volume was an enjoyable read... didn’t feel as rushed as the majority of Charlie's books seems to have adapt to a pattern from each series. Readers would rather have quality book releases than have poorly edit and rushed book put out for readers to read.
1. Why didn't James just shift to help heal? He wasn't injured with silver, which usually halts werewolf healing. They were treating his injury like one would a human (sans medication), which left me confused. I thought shifters shift and speed the healing along?
2. There was this big deal about restitution, but there wasn't really a follow though. There was one day where Logan helped James. The next, they were off dealing with the vampire thing. As far as follow though, it was lacking. Especially because it was said to be a big deal for the wolves. I assume if James was fine with it, that's all that mattered, but still. That plot element sort of fizzled.
3. Why the focus on the vampire? I get it's going to be important to Zander and Geoffry's mating (which I assume will be in a coming book), but it took time out of Logan and James, which are supposed to be the focus of this book.
I enjoyed this one. Some times these very long shifter series can be 'same old, same old' without anything new to add to the series. This story felt different. There was a lot happening and with new characters.
I liked the fact that there wasn't any unnecessary angst or 'will he won't he'? I also liked the different paranormal creatures although I was a bit surprised to see a wolf shifter that wasn't instantly cured by shifting. Oh well. At least it complemented the story.
I really like this series and how it weaves in with characters from the other CR series. I am a great shifter story fan and so it is quite comforting to have a good shifter series to relax with. Even though the story formula may be very similar, it is a great formula that works for me when I want something light and familiar to read.
I think this story came together really nicely and the characters felt solid with substance. A nice bit of encouragement to read the next few.
I once picked up a random book from the Stone Ridge universe, and I liked it. Now I’m going through the whole universe and completing the whole list on the author's website.
(trope spoilers below)
There is a lot of insta-love and soulmate/beloved stuff and I love it. In the background there is a continuous bigger plot and the series are all interconnected. Some books I like more than others, but in general it’s a great adventure and I do not regret starting all those books at all.
I didn't enjoy this book as much as some of the other books, but it was still fun.

In this book Logan leaves the gargoyle clutch to help his friend, Zander. While he's with Zander he accidentally shoots his mate, although he was protecting his friend, Zander, from the restitution that was going to be endured. This was a great story with a well done plot. The characters are well detailed, and enthralling in different ways. I actually liked the restitution, since it gave Logan time to get to know his mate, although I did feel a bit bad for Geoffrey. I thought that this was a pretty sweet and riveting paranormal romance.
Diese Kurzgeschichte liest sich gut und größtenteils flüssig 😉 Drama, Zucker, Spannung und explizite Szenen. Eine gute Mischung für eine entspannte Lesezeit. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Nice but I think I'll start counting in how many books the author says the exact same line of "Once breathing became paramount...". Stop it, find another thing to say

Logan goes out to help one of his friends, when the coyotes were attacking his animals. Zander had needed help, so Logan knows he has to help. He also want to get away from Geoffrey and they way he is. While helping Zander look for the coyote, he see one of the wolf shifter. Logan and Zander fight over the gun and Jimmy is shot, he tells Logan that he is his mate. When Jimmy alpha finds out, he tells Logan that Jimmy must ask for restitution. Even knowing that Logan might not have been the one to shoot him, he ask that Logan stay with him till he is healed. It also helped Logan decide if he wants to be mated of not. Jimmy uses this time to get to know his mate. Logan tells the Alpha that there is medicine out their for shifters that will help with the pain, but their current healer does not believe in this. So jimmy is been in more pain then he should. Logan see that Jimmy is for him and gives his mate a chance.
To fully understand the story, make sure you read the series in order.
A must read series and can't wait to see what happens next
OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE BOOK: A must read series, the books just keep getting better. A MUST READ
Friends with Matt and Marty who are mated to gargoyles, Logan decides to head up to Oregon and help his other friend, Xander, with a coyote problem in order to avoid Geoffrey, a gargoyle who wants to get serious. Logan and Xander go hunting the coyotes who are after Xander's goats when they accidentally shoot a wolf shifter.
Beta wolf shifter, Jimmy, gets shot when he accidentally shifts in front of a pair of humans. Unfortunately, one of those humans is his mate. Shifter law requires that Logan must pay Jimmy restitution. Jimmy worries that by requiring restitution it will send his already commitment wary mate running for the hills. He has to find a way to keep Logan by him long enough to convince him they can have something permanent.
Meanwhile, Logan's friend Xander has a vampire problem and Logan has to send in a gargoyle friend to the rescue. Xander is on paranormal overload.
There was a lot of good stuff going on with this story. It will be one of my favorites of her books. I loved the unique conflict caused by the need for restitution and I found the cast of characters and the plot an engaging one.
In this installment the author takes us back to visit the Tamang Pack. This series is heavily involved with two other series, Wolves of Stone Ridge and Kontra's Menagerie'. You really should start there and read all the books in order. The author has done a great job of interconnecting all the characters and several from Kontra's Menagerie appear here and Alpha Declan's pack is mentioned.
I was initially upset that the author went back to wolf shifters instead of staying with the gargoyle clutch but she brings the gargoyles into this story and a vampire too.
It's difficult sometimes to do a review without actually writing another blurb or giving major spoilers but of 'A Paranormal's Love' series this is perhaps the strongest so far. Good , strong characters a nice plot line and side stories are all well written. My one little niggle here was Goeffrey, I wouldn't have pegged stalker behavior from a gargoyle or mistaking a mate pull but I'm hoping Charlie gives him a good story of his own.
Hmmm... this might very well be my favorite one so far!!! I really do wish that this author would give us a bit more depth in her characters... but that doesn't stop me from loving all of them to pieces!!! I must say that if nothing else, I know that every time I finish a book in this series it is with a smile on my face... and for me, that is what reading is all about!
Better than some of the more recent books, though the restitution thing was kind of...ridiculous. And all the people interfering in the mating while Jimmy is hurt...no one thought they might be mates? Because in every other book all the side characters figure out at the same time or before the actual mates do. *feels peevish*
Also, I second Phaney's joy at the correct spelling of "pecs". :)
After the previous instalment, which really frustrated me, I found this story quite nice. It was simple, no deep crap that never gets explored or even gets outright ignored. Just sexy tension, paranormals and sex itself :P of course it still has no real plot or any depth to it, just a light read to sit back and relax.
If you're looking for a quick hot read with all the feels Charlie Richards has done it again. No it's not a complicated storyline, no there's not tons of angst or huge amounts of character development. Doesn't need it. It's a novella with characters well developed in the time frame that draw you into their HEA and get you wondering about the next couple.
I started reading this series because I thought the blurb to this story was very interesting. I cant believe I read 8 books in order to get to this story. I had high expectations and well, they werent really met. But I kind of knew it after book 2. So i'm not disappointed.
This book revisits the Tamang Pack but the focus is solidly on Jimmy and Logan. We also see a little more about pack life and law. A must for fans of this series.
