Azrael
My name is as notorious as I am.
I’m the devil personified, or so I’m told. Born in the underworld with one purpose, to lead our family name and strike fear in all.
My darkness is my strength, and in the Mafia world, that’s everything.
When a small fragile girl falls at my feet at one of my family’s infamous auctions, I take her as mine.
To use as I see fit.
For now, she will be what I need her to be—nothing more.
Before I can fully comprehend what’s happening, I’m feeling things I never knew I was capable of, seeing into a future I never desired.
But there’s evil running through my veins, dimming any light that ever dared to shine, and when our Don threatens to extinguish her light, I make a promise: vengeance will become my penance, and I welcome the pain it will bring.
I’m Azrael Carrera, the devil incarnate, and this is my destiny.

Hevan
They say he’s the lesser of two evils, so I either become his slave or face a fate worse than death.
But how can a man so sinister turn me inside out with only a glance?
How could I have fallen so easily for my captor? The man who thinks he’s unlovable.
When he finally opens up to me, it brings devastating consequences, a bitter reminder of why our lives will always be worlds apart.
He lets me go in order to save me, but who will save him?
Can he find his way back to me, or will the darkness consume him?

(A must read for fans of dark mafia romance, with high stakes, steamy tension and a broken, flawed anti-hero.)

Can be read as a stand-alone and a well earned HEA. Please check author website for content breakdown.

Unwittingly sold into a trafficking ring by her boyfriend, Hevan Corbett appeals to Azrael Carrera’s humanity when she unsuccessfully attempts an escape.

Very much like we saw with Stone, Azrael’s story was intense and emotional. I would say this one was a little less spicy, with more focus on the storyline and the fate of the Carrera empire. My favorite brother (so far) remains Stone, but it was incredibly satisfying to watch Azrael fulfill his Nonna’s hope for him.

dnf @53%. my brain literally hurts. i’ve never read a book by this author and at first it kept me engaged, but i think the fmc kind of ruined it me. she just came off annoying, always saying yes and not really fighting. plus, she’s a V and I normally don’t mind that, but i didn’t like she had no experience at all while the mmc has been there done that. the mmc is unhinged and true to that, but honestly i didn’t like how he was a manwhore and talked about his past escapades. also, the smut was too much for me, it’s literally like every other page. i don’t think this author is for me.

It was alright. I think the writing style wasn’t for me. The H sounds more like a 20-year old than a 34-year old man. The h says yes to everything so she can survive.

2.75 smut was ok. and plot was not that great. H was very unlikeable, there was a scene where he wanted another women to join and that really put me off of him. Also he keeps saying how he only is with willing women but the way he was with the heroine and how he thought of women in general did not seem like all the women he was with were willing. also h was too weak for my liking

This book was not what I thought it was going to be, and honestly, that made it even better 🙌🏼

Azrael is exactly the kind of peak mafia boss we all love, dark, powerful and completely intimidating. But Haven? She completely caught me off guard. I went in expecting a timid, shy FMC and instead got a total hellcat. She’s fierce, unapologetic and constantly fighting for her freedom while still allowing herself to be vulnerable. That mix made her feel so real and so easy to root for.🖤

Without spoiling anything, Azrael and Haven’s journey is hands down one of my favorites in BJ Alpha’s universe. The way their past traumas collide with their present struggles and how they fight for a future filled with love and happiness was emotional, raw, and incredibly satisfying.🤌🏼

As always make sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in 🚨

And now excuse me while I impatiently wait for Czar’s book, because I cannot wait for his story.

This is a dark mafia read with a huge amount of 🌶️🌶️
Azrael is the dark Angel of death. Haven is the light that he never imagined coming into his life. She was kidnapped & sold to an auction house & he takes her to his home as his toy.
Azrael has been brought up by his monster of a father to be brutal & hate, love is a weakness not allowed in the Carrera family. Woman are only to be abused for men’s pleasure & depraved fantasies but Haven is different & like no other woman he has been with before.
It’s a very dark story with a lighter ending that is a quick easy read!

devoured this book, eat it the F up. finished it in 1 go, because I could not put it down.

Azrael is such an alpha asshole, untill he finds her. He sacrifices everything for her, they have to through hell to find the light. But they find it and what a beautiful light it is.

Azrael was unlike any of BJ Alpha’s books I’ve read. There’s a whole other vibe, darkness, and edge to Azrael—the story and the character. First, it should be noted that the story does take place before Stone. I’m still trying to process the timeline after finishing the ending. Perhaps once the next book comes out, it will answer those questions, or maybe I missed something. But, like most BJ Alpha books, the story hits hard right from the start—I like that a lot. Having previously read Stone and been introduced to Azrael and that side of the family, I had already gotten a sense of the dangerous and OTT side. But I certainly wasn’t prepared for the rawness of it all. It set the tone nicely for the rest of the story. I really liked this one. It got my heart pumping and my emotions going all over the place. I’m excited for Czar’s story.

From the cover of this book you know it’s going to bring the heat! I just had no idea how much heat Azrael was packing. Sign me up, please!!

From the first chapter my heart broke and I cried for the little boys who had no choice but to live with the devil.

You know you connect with characters and their story when long after you read “the end” you’re still in awe.

These characters and this world is absolutely unforgiving and there is no room for anything light, or so they thought.

You’ll cry, nearly combust 🥵, sit on the edge of your seat, want to physically hurt some of these people and cheer when vengeance is served. Love love love that we get a visit or two from some of very familiar baddies.

BJ Alpha you have out done yourself with this one!

I can NOT wait for the next book.

Bravo!!!

The Careera family books are the darkest yet for BJ, I swear! Holy smokes it had me worried there for a second. Its been a minute since I've read as dark as this one. So if you like pitch black, here's another for you!

I don't know how to write a review without spoiling anything. So here's what I can say...

It's dark af. Must read trigger warnings before going in.
I read it in half a day cause I couldn't stop.
It's spicy.
The insane web that BJ has created in her universe between books / series / characters is unmatched.
The extended epilogue was the cherry on top of another insane (and awesome) read.

Azrael is the second book in The Carrera family interconnected series. This book did not disappoint. I have read all of BJ Alpha's books, and this one is a top favorite. What happens when a broken boy becomes a man and meets Hevan? Obviously she helps him see the light. Can't wait for Czar's book.

ARC Review
BJ Alpha does it again. This story was raw, intense, and completely gut-wrenching in a way that stays with you …. The emotions cut deep, but what made it unforgettable was the connection I had to the characters — their pain felt personal, their love powerful, and their journey impossible to walk away from untouched. I hurt, and held my breath right along with them. This book left its mark on my heart, and I cannot wait to continue with the series and dive back into this Carrera world!

This one hit differently.

Azrael’s story is darker, heavier, and more emotionally layered. While it still has spice, the focus leans much more into the storyline — especially the power struggles surrounding the Carrera empire. The stakes feel bigger here. It’s not just about romance; it’s about legacy, survival, and what it costs to sit at the top.

The story opens in a brutal way. Hevan Corbett is betrayed in the worst possible way — unknowingly sold into a trafficking ring by the very person who was supposed to care about her. That betrayal alone sets the tone. When she tries to escape and fails, she ends up appealing to Azrael Carrera’s humanity — a dangerous gamble considering the kind of man he is.

From the beginning, you’re thrown into a world where mercy is weakness and emotions are liabilities. Azrael is shaped by a family legacy that prioritizes control and ruthlessness over compassion. He’s not soft. He’s not forgiving. His entire identity is built on strength and dominance. Yet when Haven enters his orbit — innocent, terrified, and completely unprepared for this world — something shifts.

What makes their dynamic compelling is that Haven sees pieces of the man Azrael might have been before the weight of his empire hardened him. There’s a flicker of vulnerability beneath his cold exterior, and that fragile thread becomes the emotional heartbeat of the story. Their connection isn’t sweet or gentle — it’s intense, raw, and often painful. Every interaction feels charged, like it could tip into tenderness or destruction at any second.

The tension is relentless. The plot keeps moving, and the danger never really settles. The romance is fierce in its possessiveness. When Azrael claims something, he doesn’t let go — and when that “something” becomes Haven, his devotion is consuming.

That said, there were moments I didn’t love.

I really disliked the way Haven was called degrading names like “slut,” “whore,” and “toy.” I understand that this is a dark mafia world and harsh language is part of that atmosphere, but it didn’t sit well with me. It felt unnecessarily cruel at times, and it took away from the emotional depth of their bond. I prefer dominance that feels powerful — not degrading for the sake of shock value.

On the other hand, the pregnancy storyline? I loved that part. Seeing Azrael — this controlled, hardened man — completely lose his composure over the idea of her being pregnant added a powerful layer to his character. His reaction showed cracks in the armor. The panic, the protectiveness, the possessive fear — it humanized him in a way nothing else did. That shift from ruthless empire leader to a man terrified of losing what’s his was one of the strongest emotional moments in the book.

Overall, this story is intense, emotionally heavy, and high stakes. It’s darker in tone, more empire-driven, and fueled by a love that feels dangerous and consuming. Not perfect — but gripping, powerful, and unforgettable in its own way.

What 👏🏼 a 👏🏼 book! Had me page turning like a maniac. Azrael has taken the number one spot for my favourite, he is top tier 👌🏼

This is a dark mafia romance with a HEA and book 2 of the Carrera Family, but it can be read as a standalone. The content, both on and off page, will NOT be suitable for everyone. It covers topics that are mega heavy and may be triggering to some. You MUST proceed with caution; your mental health matters.

I always say BJA cannot top her previous book but every time I’m wrong! I don’t know how she does it, but she does. Every. Damn. Time.

This story was not only hot; it was intense, so full of raw emotion that the last 25% had me crying and all up in my feels, and it was thrilling. It was a ride, that’s for sure. This book right here is another example of why I love BJAs writing. You get more than a story, it’s a storm of feelings and wicked character building. The writing style brings the words to life and pulls you in head first.

This book ticked all my boxes; the plot twists kept me on my toes and emotionally destroyed me, the chemistry between Hevan and Azrael was delicious, and the characters themselves were *chef’s kiss*, they were beautifully written and the development was on point.

Azrael demanded attention, his presence in the book had me holding my breath at points. He definitely lived up to his namesake. His growth was everything though, had me swooning like a good ‘un. As I said earlier, top spot now belongs to him. There was more to him than he cared to show; his connection to his Nonna was so sweet, and everything he did was for family. I adored his bond with Czar too! Got me excited for his book!
Hevan was feisty and I lived for it, every damn second. She gave Azrael a run for his money and it was hilarious to watch him navigate this fiery woman that turned his life upside down.

This book was just perfection; the characters, the plot, the tension, the twists… everything was absolutely perfect!

BJA is one of my auto-buy authors, and this is why. I will follow her br33der men to the end of the earth. I’m obsessed.

Hold please I have to pick up my jaw before I can get into this review!… My brain has spazzed and I feel like I got factory rebooted the ups and downs highs and lows and the emotions I felt while reading this book are unbelievably strong!

After months of MANY and I mean MANY of us waiting for this book so to say I devoured this book in about 3 hours give or take within the day! I literally couldn’t put it down. I think this book has made me the most emotionally attached with the characters. I felt every pang of guilt, every tear, every smile, every fit of laughter. BJ put her SOUL into writing this it just felt and hit different than the other books I’ve read from her she’s one of my FAVORITE authors and to say that feels like I’m cheating on the rest of my babies by her but it’s the truth!

The spice🔥-🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (yes this is 6 I know😛)
The story line📖- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The book overall📚-⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The spice-
The spice was spicin Man!! The emotional spice the banter and the flat out HAWT scenes every last one of them builds a deeper connection that feels so intimate between the characters and myself. I was drooling, giggling, fearful of her brattiness, Azrael this dark devil himself kinda guy and his counter part Hevan you just know that those two HAVE to be together, the light and the dark both need the other to be the best of what they are!

The storyline- the DRAMA the plot twists the betrayals, the flat out evil of some people, you can so much as smell and taste everything from this book it’s soo in depth and just so AAAGHHH I can’t even put it into words it’s just amazing and if I could go back and re read this for the first time I’d do some CRAZY things to be able to do so!

The book overall-
The book overall is perfectly balanced you’re not lost in just plot but it’s not through and through smut and even in the smut you’re getting important plot details and little bits for later down into the book, the foreshadowing is amazing but not so much details that’s it’s spoiling anything for you, BUT THE END?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! Nothing I mean NOTHING could have prepared me for that ending! Now I am waiting (not so patiently may I add) for Czars book!!

If you’re contemplating reading anything by BJ Alpha just do it, it will be some of the best reads of your life. If I’m in a slump and need something I know is consistently great BJ is the first section of myself I turn to! Without a doubt always consistently amazing and continues to get better and better!

For frogshake, what an unbelievably stunning story. I was hooked from the very first line. Azrael breaks at the age of ten when he is forced to claim his place as the Carrera heir in a brutal way. That heartbreaking moment shatters a part of him so deeply that he grows up believing he is a devil — someone unlovable.

The story is at once harrowing, sorrowful, and profoundly empowering. The demonic cruelty and emotional coldness instilled by his father feel even sharper in this book, and Azrael’s behind‑the‑scenes battles against him unfold with striking clarity.

There were moments when Azrael’s cruelty was painful to witness, yet I understood the internal war he fights. He has never been allowed to show anything but malice and anger. Every softer emotion has been beaten out of him. Still, he does everything in his power to end his father’s brutality, weaving an incredibly clever plan for revenge in the shadows.

Azrael and Hevan’s story begins when he brings her home from the auction, but throughout the book their connection grows into a deep, breathtaking love. Their pull toward each other is undeniable from the start, and their interactions feel natural, inevitable. The author captures Azrael’s emotional turmoil — his disbelief that he deserves anything good — with remarkable sensitivity.

After the first book, I wasn’t entirely sure what to think of Azrael or his cryptic behavior. But from the very beginning of this story, I just wanted to take ten‑year‑old Azrael into my arms, hold him close, and tell him he isn’t evil — that I want to love that small, shattered boy with all the gentleness he was never given.

Hevan, with her sunshine‑bright spirit, helps Azrael see himself as enough — as someone worthy of love. And just when I thought I knew where the story was heading, BJ threw a curveball that completely knocked the ground out from under me. Yet even with all the darkness, this book, too, finds its way to a happy ending.

Despite the cruelty and brutality woven into its pages, this is one of the most beautiful and unforgettable books I have ever read. I am still speechless with gratitude for the honor of reading this as an ARC, and I’m already eagerly waiting to see what Czar’s story will bring. I have a strong feeling he’ll become my favorite once I’ve put myself back together after his book — and I need Czar’s story right now.

This is my honest review in exchange for an ARC.

I remember finishing Stone feeling happy and excited for the next book, and I already knew I was going to like Sienna’s unhinged brothers, Azreal and Czar.

If I am being completely honest with this review though, things started to unravel for me pretty quickly. The opening flashback of Azreal and Czar being forced to kill their own mother and grandmother was brutal, and later on, when Azreal decides he has to give Hevan up, that hit hard. Those moments carried real weight.

The issue for me was everything in between.

The middle felt like constant whiplash. I do not know what it was, because I truly love this author, but nothing really stuck with me, not even the spice. And that surprised me. The O’Connell brothers are some of my favorite MMCs, so I do not know why this story felt so all over the place. Especially since morally black, mean, grumpy men who do not believe in love and then fall hard are usually exactly my thing.

Hevan being tricked by her boyfriend Stefan and sold into sex trafficking for only $1,000, only for him to go buy a video game afterward, just felt unbelievable. I kept thinking, really?

Azreal finding Hevan at the auction house, right as she was about to be sold. He was instantly stuck on her and could not figure out why. As his feelings grew, he knew that if his father ever found out, Hevan would pay the price for it. That fear drove so many of his choices, and I understood why he kept pushing her away and trying to protect her in his own twisted way.

Even so, their first time together and the little toy nickname he gave her immediately annoyed me. I fully understood why Azreal was the way he was. His father and Vector were monsters, and he was constantly trying to protect both Sienna and Hevan from his own father. That part was clear.

The moment that hit me the hardest emotionally was when he drugs Hevan and asks her if she would love him in the next life. That scene actually landed for me.

The ending was much better. Azreal sacrificing himself, killing his father, and saving the kids felt satisfying. I also loved getting a glimpse of him as a dad and seeing him go back to Hevan.

I was shocked, but in a good way, that he let Czar believe he was dead for an entire year. The note Czar finds at his grave. And I will admit, that ending definitely has me excited for Czar’s story and whatever is coming with the maid, Evelyn

ENG/ITA REVIEW

ENG
A haunted heir and a forbidden love are the perfect ingredients for BJ Alpha’s darkest mafia romance. Meet Azrael Carrera and fall in love with the devil.

BLURB
Azrael Carrera was born and raised amidst blood and violence. Every nefarious acts he’s witnessed and participated in led him to be the unfeeling prince of a cruel mafia empire. But then, during an auction, he meets Hevan, a pretty little angel with so much light inside that he gets blinded and becomes obsessed. But their love is dangerous when something sinister threats to end their dream of freedom.

I couldn’t wait for this story, really. And it was incredible. As every other book written by the author, it has everything I look for in a story: a jealous/possessive/protective hero and an innocent but strong heroine.

Azrael is truly unhinged and some scenes are cruel and unfair, but as always there’s a happy ending and redemption and all the amazing characters that will have their own story. I can’t wait for Czar and Jensen’s books!

RATE: 5/5

ITA

Letto in pochissimo e adorato. Non vedo l’ora di leggere i libri di Czar e Jensen!

Azrael by BJ Alpha is a dark, high‑heat romance about a ruthless crime boss and the woman forced into his world, centering on themes of power, ownership, trauma, and a brutal, obsessive kind of love. And plenty of heat!

The story follows Azrael Carrera—the devil incarnate—and Hevan, a woman who must choose between becoming his, or facing an even worse fate, as their relationship shifts from captivity and control into a twisted, soul‑deep connection. Azrael holds immense power and a terrifying reputation as a man you do not cross, underscoring his role as a feared, morally brutal anti‑hero who operates without apology in a violent world. There are very few people he trusts, and he must keep his eyes and ears open for signs of betrayal within and outside his family. And there are plenty.

Hevan is thrust into his orbit when she is told Azrael is the lesser of two evils, forcing her into a choice that is really no choice at all: either become his slave or suffer something darker at another man’s hands. She understandably craves freedom, but as she spends more time with Azrael, there’s an inner conflict between the need to survive within Azrael’s control and a desperate desire to reclaim her autonomy. Despite his cruelty and dominance, Azrael’s feelings for Hevan quickly become obsessive and consuming. She’s nothing like the women he’s been involved with, and it’s both refreshing, and scary for him.

As their relationship develops, Hevan becomes the emotional counterweight to Azrael’s darkness. Steering toward a love that feels fated and deeply emotional, even as it grows from a place of captivity and heavy power imbalance. As their bond to one another strengthens, it’s
transformative for both of them. For Azrael, it challenges his belief that he is unlovable, and for Hevan, it tests the line between coerced survival and genuine, consuming love. Both are learning so much from each other.

Although dark with some seriously heavy themes, the love that grew out of this seemingly impossible moment in time, was beautiful and heartwarming.

Azrael is the heir to the Carrera family.
‘The devil in the dark’

His Nonna always showed him compassion & love, she believed he had light in his soul, her little “La mia Luce” In a cruel world of darkness she encouraged him to search for the brightest star in the sky to escape his darkness but his father believes that the more cruel you are, proves your worth & existence in the world of which they come from.
He destroyed every spark of happiness with his cruelty & brutality in Azrael young life.

One night Azrael was forced to take his first step into the life of a man he never wanted to be, changing his life. He was only ten years old.
Gone is the innocent boy Azrael was, he now lives up to his name "devil" he now has a reputation to withhold & strikes fear in most people.

Hevan wakes up in her very own nightmare, one where she’s forced to choose between becoming Azrael ‘Toy’ & somewhere so much worse.
Azrael is her only option so becomes his captive. She soon sees beneath the surface of the mask he wears & develop feelings toward him.

When her first spots Hevan something inside of him called to her, he wants to keep her. She brings out feelings in him, things he wasn't even sure he was capable of feeling anymore.

Azrael can’t afford to show weakness, especially to his father so to the outside world he remains cruel, emotionless & dominating.
She reminds him of his Nonna’s words that he is more than just his fathers pawn. Now determined to keep her…… No matter what it costs him!

I honestly can’t recommend this book highly enough. You know when you start a book and you just know it's going to be a doozie ~ I knew straight away.
First few pages in and I was hooked.

Azrael had the perfect mix that kept me gripped throughout. The drama, The $€x. The tension.. The angst. The secrets & suspense. And oh my God, the straight fire that are these two.

This book beautifully captures what it means to find light after darkness, hope after heartbreak, and love when you least expect it.

B.J Alpha delivers a tale that is both dark & thrilling, with characters that readers will root for from beginning to end.

I finished this book and immediately lost the ability to be a functional human being.

There was no easing out of it. No gentle closing of the cover and moving on with my day. Just me, sitting there, emotionally overloaded, trying to remember how breathing works. I waited *so long* for this release, and asking whether it was “good” feels laughably inadequate. That word doesn’t even exist on the same scale as what this story delivers.

BJ Alpha didn’t just raise the bar—she obliterated it. Her writing here is heavier, sharper, more intense, and unapologetically brutal in the most beautiful way. I needed space after finishing. Space to cry. Space to think. Space to stare into nothingness and let the aftermath settle. A proper review simply wasn’t possible right away.

Following her journey as a writer has been an absolute privilege, because each book shows just how much she continues to evolve.

She was already talented from the beginning, but with every release, she pushes herself further. And *Azarael*? That one exists in a category of its own. It’s not just another step forward—it’s a leap into something extraordinary.

This story broke me open and then, piece by piece, put me back together again. It’s intense, vulnerable, haunting, and deeply moving. Even after I finished, the emotions lingered, heavy and unresolved, refusing to let go.

I am already impatiently waiting for *CZAR*, because if this book is any indication of what’s coming next, I’m not ready—but I absolutely am. I won’t give anything away, but hear me when I say this: on January 20th, pick up *Azarael*. Trust the process. Trust the pain. It’s worth it.

And if BJ Alpha isn’t already on your radar, fix that immediately. Once you step into her world, there’s no turning back—and you won’t want to.

Before reading this make sure to check do your trigger warning before hand! And if you haven’t read Stone yet I suggest you do that before diving into Azreal.

I’m not okay!! How can you be after this ride with such raw emotions, sometimes your heart is so full of love, the next you wan to cry your eyes out, and then it beats so fast with fear and excitement….. she doesn’t draw you into a story she draws you into a different world, a world you can’t escape from even if you wanted to… because YES! She is that good!

When all you know is the darkest darkness you need to find your brightest light in your world, and that’s what happens to Azreal the moment he lays his eyes on Heaven. From the moment their world collides I just felt that they were the perfect match together and while I loved Stones story I loved Azreals so much more.

Azreal is the typical mafia son with cold and with no emotions, dark and powerful and always get his way one way or another.. but is that really all that he is, is it more to the monster he has become? The character development from Azreal was just top notch to me. He looked just liked his father but he was nothing like him, he was more like his mother or his Nona if you look beyond the surface.

Haven suprised me all in good ways, I thought she would be this quiet, scared and shy girl. But she is a fighter.. she constantly fights for her freedom and talks back when she isn’t soupose to, totally bad ass but with a vulnerable side you get to se some glimpses to.

All he did for them to be able to be together was so beautiful yet so devastating, and the twist in the end I didint see that coming at all but I welcome it.

BJ always makes the men that you cannot help but fall in love with. I cannot say that there is a single one of her guys that I don't love in one way or another. They all have different personalities and have different dark past but they all have one thing in common. When they find the one that was meant to be their light in the darkness they fall hard and protect even harder. Azrael is no exception to the rule. She has a fantastic way of developing not only the story but also the characters. You always see the growth and you cannot help but root for them to finally get it right. At the beginning of the story I was a little skeptical of him due to things he was forced to do to be come the man his father wanted him to be. He needed to be ruthless to survive his father. His father is the definition of evil. The way he treated his sons is absolutely attrocious. Heavan is literally his savior. She brings light to his darkness. She is pure an innocent. She makes Azrael want to be a better man. They don't have a typical relationship at first. Azrael has to learn to be a better man because he wants to make her happy but he also has to keep his love and devotion for her secret. They go through a lot of ups and downs but through it all they will rise above it. I will say this the ending was a tear jerker. I was not expecting the big twist at the end of the book. I am so happy it ended the way it did. I cannot wait to see what happens next in Czar's book. It was great to see our guy Owen from the Storm Series in this book. If you are looking for a great mafia romance book full of spice then this is the book for you.
