Sherlock Sam encounters his most important mystery yet! His classmate has gone missing at MacRitchie Reservoir, and no one can find him. Fearing the worst, Officer Siva refuses to let the Supper Club help, but there’s never been a mystery Sherlock, Watson and their friends could ignore!
This is the first book in the Fiendish Mastermind Trilogy!
Born in the San Joaquin Valley in California to Mexican immigrant parents, Adan Jimenez became an immigrant himself when he moved to Singapore after living in New York for almost a decade. He has worked for comic book stores, book stores, and gaming stores. And a hoagie sandwich shop once. He loves comics, LEGOs, books, games (analog and video), Doctor Who, sandwiches, and his wife, Felicia. Not necessarily in that order, though.
Felicia Low-Jimenez has worked in the book industry most of her adult life. She has bought books, sold books, marketed books, and now she is trying her hand at writing books. She loves to nap and eat chocolate, though not at the same time. She spends most of her free time reading and when she can afford it, she travels, usually to look for beautiful bookstores around the world. Most of all, she loves her husband, Adan (who insisted that she include this).
In this story, Sherlock Sam and his friends (including his robot - Watson) go on a quest to trace the whereabouts of their 'missing' classmate. Despite Officer Siva's repeated instructions, Samuel and his gang decide to take up matters in their own hands and try to find James before it's too late. Despite its short length, the author has managed to sketch a wonderful set of characters. Watson, the robot, reminds me of the AI - JARVIS of Iron Man. Samuel a.k.a Sherlock Sam is an avid fan of Sherlock Holmes and is very inquisitive. He is the type of person who wouldn't take a break from the case until he gets to bottom of it. The supporting characters too manage to make a mark. The unexpected twists, the rib-tickling humor, and the crisp plot would definitely make you contented towards the end.
This is my first Sherlock Sam book, but it felt like I have known all these characters for a Long time, thanks to the characters’ distinct and dynamic personalities as well as comprehensive character write-ups found at the end of the book. What a delight for this Singaporean to read a book that is based in MacRitchie Reservoir and be able to pick up all the cultural and culinary references. Above all else, I loved how not one but two robots helped push the plot forward, thus giving us a glimpse into a futuristic world that is replete of AI. Two thumbs up!
I'm glad I ordered this book series for the students during my stint as a school librarian. Even as an adult, I too thoroughly enjoyed reading the Sherlock Sam series!
