Our staff did a book study on this text my first year as a principal. Teaching Essentials deserves a close read by every educator. There is not one wasted word. I refer to it often as I visit teachers' classrooms and provide feedback for my staff. It would make a great textbook for preservice teachers as well.

Regie Routman has put together sound advice for classroom teachers. She provides a lot of examples and practical strategies for teachers to strengthen their teaching repertoire. I highly recommend this book for new teachers as well as seasoned teachers- there is always something new for us to learn and implement into good practice.
