"To be honest the field of innovation and economy is not in the area of me expertise; yet this book was interesing to read for me especially those study cases it presents as examples."
The book defines different concepts and types of innovation as well as describes how various companies use this strategy to have a top position in the competition.
The book describes ways to manage something inherently complex as innovation and does an overall good job at that. It uses an overarching framework search->select->implement->capture to structure the book. There are many case studies, research notes and references.
The Good - Clear overall structure - Very thorough references and research notes
The Bad - Feels disconnected from real world at times - Some repetitions throughout the book
Conclusion It is not easy to capture a complex theme like innovation and present it in a logical and comprehensive way. This book manages to do this, however the approach is very academic and feels disconnected to the mentioned cases.
Tidd explain the Innovation Management in the systematic approach, coming with the flow chart and guide you or the organization step by step through each chapter.
However, the real world innovation is much more complex and dynamic than any model can be capture in. Only the pragmatist will know what shall be work!
Fundamental reading for innovation lectures. It is quite comprehensive and touches many topics. A valuable reference for anyone interested in understanding the innovation process.
