Rate this book
Introducing a major new thriller writer—in the vein of Vince Flynn and Tom Clancy—and a deadly yet charismatic character, Trent Turner.

For years, Trent Turner has worked in the shadows using his vigilance and determination to covertly defend his country. His anonymous days dispatching of the world's dark realities are interrupted when the unthinkable happens and sends him on a path that could destroy him. He finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy where political and financial powers collide when members of a hacktivist group are strong-armed into helping a sworn enemy of the United States rise to power once again. It's a race against time for the operative to prevent an attack that will transform the enemy into a superpower once again and destroy his country in the process.

S. L. Jones grew up in the Washington, DC area and has been involved in technology since the mid-1990s. He’s a former competitive road racing cyclist and mountain biker, and was a semi-professional musician who played up and down the East Coast. He has held executive-level positions in the technology field, tried his hand at Entrepreneurship as co-founder of an Internet start-up, and founded a major online sports publication. An adrenaline junky at heart, he has been known to ski down imposing couloirs, and navigate singletrack and alpine roads on the bike at speeds that would cause most to question his sanity. Although fatherhood has slowed down his tendency for the extreme, his creativity and penchant for excitement have proven a killer combination for writing page-turning thrillers.

It started out slow but it was showing all the ways this story was and how so much can happen if a cyber attack of that nature ever happened. I found it to be a great book and will have to read others by S.L. Jones If you like political stories this is one of thhe best I have read so far.

Received as ARC. Excellent start to a new series. I found my new Reacher or Flynn Believable plot that is truly scary. Great character development

If you enjoy fast-paced tales containing espionage, geo-politics, Russian Mafia, terrorism, international money/power brokers mixed with some interesting high-tech, The Code Within may just be to your liking. The story features a wide assortment of both good and bad characters and the main plot moves well, with various sub-plots adding to the mix and intrigue. A band of hardline Communist Russians (one of whom is a member of an ultra-secret international power group) have been working for years (since the fall of the Iron Curtain, actually) to bring down the United States and, through their team of hackers, believe that they have finally been able to work out just how to do that. Both current and former (now in the private sector) U.S. intelligence assets are up against the clock trying their best to discover exactly how and when the enemy attack will occur and what it is targeted to do, while politicians (some good and some shady-to-horrible) work on their own agenda before, during and after the crisis.

There is a very good mix of both male and female characters and some of the sub-plots center around certain pairings, which serves to add some tension. Without wanting to give too much away, suffice it to say that the good guys do come out on top, but their activities and methods are what drive the story. As this is #1 in a series, do not expect every little detail to be wrapped up nice and crisp. A solid Four+, not quite yet up to Vince Flynn or Daniel Silva, but, as stated, this is fast-paced and quite enjoyable, a book that should keep you turning pages and looking forward to the next installment.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A fast actioned novel bringing the "War story" into the modern ages. Not only do the operatives in this novel implement the gadgets of the modern spy (drones, smartphone-like devices, etc) but S.L. Jones finally brings the modern fight to the brand new, realistic battlefield of the modern day - the cyber domain. For the first time (that I have seen) a novel is written about where the battles of the future are going to be fought.

This excellent story keeps you on the edge of your seat and is an excellent read.

Excellent thriller!

This is a great story that actually involves family, both real and the family we work with who become like brothers. A very good storyline and characters that you come to love and hope will make it through all adventures. A group of black ops men, some who think they are working for their country, only to find out they are being used for 'personal' ops! Very interesting and I highly recommend this bok!

Spies, Politics, Money, and Traitors

When a group of hackers get together, all sorts of things become possible. Mix in folks formerly in the Seals who now are involved in black ops the FBI and CIA cannot do legally and Russians hoping to reconstitute the "glory" that was once Communist Russia, you have the ingredients for an action-packed tale.

This is a spy thriller, covert operation, super hi-tech all rolled into one book. The author pulls this effort off but in so doing, makes the length of the book so long that it makes War and Peace seem like a short story.

All in all, it was interesting read but if it were condensed it would be a lot more enjoyable.

Just a few details short of 5

Well written, fast paced and fun to read, those are the plus. The minus? Some subplots simply banish or are ended so abruptly that something is missing.

A real page turner

At first I was thrown by the quick change from one group of characters to another, but as I read on, the story completely captured my attention. I love techno thrillers and am eagerly awaiting another in what I hope is a series.
