Soho Slasher by Ben Hopkin is pitched as a crossover novel, but I would classify it more as a Harbinger Novel with an introduction to the characters of International Hunters, Inc- and mainly just Kyra, their founder and leader. I am a fan of the other Harbinger series and this was similar to the others in that series. Not as much gore as in the other Harbinger books (some, of course), but Kent still has his quirky personality and mystifying knack for solving crimes. In Soho Slasher, Kent and his new bride Nicole are headed to London for their honeymoon, Nicole for a sightseeing trip and Kent on a side trip to solve a copycat Jack the Ripper serial killer case, in about 12 hours or so. Oh, and Kent wants to solve the original Jack the Ripper case too- all in a day so he can get back to Nicole and their honeymoon plans. Only Kent could be that full of himself, right? And that's one of the things that makes Kent so much fun, in my opinion (and makes some readers dislike this series, but hey, it's fiction, right?).

Kent makes his way to Scotland yard to meet up with Kyra, one of the many children of serial killers he has been a benefactor to over the years. Kyra is the leader of International Hunters, Inc. and has been called in to help solve the copycat killings. Since she knew Kent, the world's greatest detective, would be in London, she asked him to step in to give a helping hand. Kent and Kyra end up making their way throughout the streets of London, always one step ahead of Scotland Yard, in search of the Ripper Copy cat, and in search of the original Jack the Ripper, while Kent teaches his protege how to use her intelligence, gut instincts, and skills of deduction to solve both mysteries.

This is typical Harbinger, and Kyra is a great new sidekick for the sleuth, as they tromp all over London. I really liked the characters of Kyra and am anxious to read more on her. Her background is very interesting, being a child of a murderer and having been taken in by her "adoptive father," Kent. She has a lot of the almost psychic case-solving skills that Kent has too. Sometimes it feels like a bit of a stretch how they can make some of their connections, but again, hey, it's fiction- sometimes you just have to go with it and enjoy the ride. We don't get too much of a peek into the rest of Kyra's team, just a few names and simple descriptions that pop up here and there, so, once again, I didn't feel like this was much of a crossover book, but a guest starring role for Kyra in a Harbinger Novel. I am a Kent and Nicole fan and this is right in line with all their other adventures. If you liked the other books in the series, pick this one up too. If you didn't, well then, you better skip this one.

Ben and Carolyn have done it again and this will have you burning the midnight candle to finish it. Kent and Kyra have a chance of a life time, solve the centuries old Jack the Ripper case and the current new Soho Slasher. Kyra Karela is a very intense character in the new Harbinger crossover thriller. She also has a very special relationship with the world most efficient profiler Kent Harbinger, he had saved her from her father, which was a serial killer. Kent had made her feel safe for the first time. Whenever she felt the darkness come up inside her she just pictured Kent's face, her Kent, her savior. Together they were going to take down another serial killer and Kent declared he was going to do it in a matter of hours ago that he can rejoin his new bride, Nicole and continue his honeymoon. As anyone knows Jack the Ripper was a brutal sadistic killer that has terrorized London but was never caught. The Soho Slasher is a copycat killer following the Ripper down to the minute details. Ben and Carolyn have writing down to a science and the amount of research they do for their books is incredible. All of the details of the old case shows how much work they put into their stories. The infinite descriptions of the places that each took place in breathtaking detail makes you feel like your standing next to each character. The flow of the plot so well thought out it keeps you involved and on the edge of your seat each minute. I felt each emotion of each of the characters, laughter for the quirky mannerisms of Kent, the thought processes of Kyra each time Kent made her think it through, the mixed emotions that Kyra felt towards Kent in her learning process, I could go on and on but you the reader need to look forward to these too and lots of them you will feel. Ben and Carolyn know how to take the reader right into the plot and keep you involved from page one to the last and you will be panting for the next book they write. Beta reading for these authors certainly has its perks as this is not the first book that I have experienced from them and it surely will not be my last, they are permanently on my favorite authors list but as you know we have to give them out honest opinion of what they send us. Action and emotions run high in their new crossover thriller series so don't miss out.

Soho Slasher- Jack is Back by: Carolyn McCray and Ben Hopkin
As an amateur Ripperologist and a fan of the Harbinger series I was thrilled to see this new offering by Carolyn McCray and Ben Hopkin. Kent Harbinger is a world renowned profiler who has been responsible for catching numerous serial killers. While on his honeymoon in London he joins with Kyra Karela head of International Hunters, Inc and New Scotland Yard to solve copycat Jack the Ripper crimes. Determined that the solution lies with solving the original Ripper murders from 1888 and discovering the true identity of the infamous Jack the Ripper, Harbinger sets out to solve the crimes by 11:00 PM. As his new bride, Nicole, explores London Harbinger goes about investigating connections between the past and present. Combining history with fiction McCray and Hopkin weave a tale that will keep the reader up all night in order to learn the conclusion. As Kent and Kyra face challenges and roadblocks Nicole enjoys the sights and sounds of London. Even as the story moves forward the reader is drawn back to the horrors of Victorian England and the gruesome murders of prostitutes on the streets of Whitechapel. Filled with suspense and terror the story builds to a surprising and unique conclusion as Kent, Kyra, and even Nicole face the realization that things are not always what they seem to be. Be prepared for a sleepless night when you read this crossover novel.

Let me start by saying I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review; however that didn't influence my review.

I've always been a big fan of anything related to Jack the Ripper; whether fiction or non-fiction and I've got a pretty good handle on the events that occurred in 1888 in Whitechapel so when I saw that this book was about the Ripper I couldn't wait to get started. So far, every book I've read by Mr. Hopkin has been a great story that moved fast and kept me interested to the point where I didn't want to put it down at all. This book didn't digress from that reaction. This book deals with a copy-cat killer of the original Ripper who's killing women in London who are prostitutes and have the same names as the Ripper's victims. Throw in a honeymooning detective couple from the States & an independent profiler who was taught by the American detective as well as adding the husband- Kent, likes to rub people the wrong way when he's investigating and you have yourself a very entertaining mystery on your hands.

This story has interesting characters and I got a few chuckles out of some of the things the American detective thought and said to people and on top of that you get a great mystery that links back to someone whom history considers it's first serial killer in the modern sense of the word; you can't beat it.

Jack the Ripper is back....or is he? Someone is recreating Jack's crimes and the New Scotland Yard has turned to Kent Harbinger, who is conveniently on his honeymoon in London to help catch the killer. Of course, Kent jumps at the chance to assist on the case rather than tour stuffy museums with Nicole, his new bride. Kent vows to solve not only the current case but the original Jack the Ripper case in time for an 11 o'clock date with his wife. As Kent races about the city for clues he is assisted by his adoptee, Kyra Karela, the dynamic leader of the International Hunters, Inc. I loved the fast paced speed of this thriller-I read half of it before realizing it! I found Kyra to be a smart, funny and yet unsure about her fledgling company's future or her leadership of it. She certainly held her own against Kent's amazing investigative talents. It's also always fun to read about the grittier sides of places and London has plenty of skeletons in its closet. I look forward to reading more about the International Hunters and their adventures!

A MAYHEM-MURDER-MYSTERY-TWIST OF HUMOR, HOW DO THEY DO THAT? I'VE READ SEVERAL OTHER BOOKS BY THIS DYNAMIC WRITING DUO ALL ARE VERY UNIQUE I LOVE THEM FOR THAT. THIS WAS MY FIRST HARBINGER THRILLER AND I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED, I FELL IN LOVE WITH KENT. I KNOW THEY SAY THAT THESE BOOKS ARE KINDA GORY AND THAT'S NOT A PROBLEM (bring it). I WAS SURPRISED I KNEW WHO DONE-DONE-IT WHEN FIRST INTRODUCED IN THE BOOK BUT KNOWING HOW THEIR STORY LINE GOES YOU NEVER KNOW. THAT WANTING TO FIND OUT IF I WAS RIGHT ONLY MADE ME READ FASTER (hated being interrupted). I WAS REALLY WORRIED UP TO THE END FOR FEAR IT WASN'T GONNA END RIGHT, HAD ME A LITTLE WORRIED (a whole lot). I TOTALLY LOVE THE DARC SERIES I'M GOING TO HAVE TO CHECK OUT MORE OF THIS SERIES. ;D

I read this book thinking that maybe it would be a new take on the Jack the Ripper history. It was a new take, but not a good take. The main character is an arrogant arse who does not come off as likeable at all. I don't know if the author was trying to create a Sherlock Holmes vibe with this guy, but if so, it is way off the mark. The assistant main character is introduced as a stong, independent woman who is involved in a shoot out with drug thugs, and the head of her own private terrorist tracking agency. After the first few pages she degenerates into this goofy teenage parody with goo goo eyes for the arse discussed above. The arse is propelled to this position of Profiler demigod. The whole thing reads like a teen romance. Stay away.

The plot was probably 3 stars, but the writing was so stilted, cliched, and just flat out poor that it brought the whole book down to a 1 star. The characters were poorly developed, which is surprising given that each was from another series by the author. About 30 pages in a checked to see if I paid for the book or if it was free at the time I downloaded it from Amazon (it was free). The author seems really nice and the plot was promising so I'm hoping this is an anomaly because it's the product of a crossover. I'm thinking maybe trying to explore two different characters from two different series while keeping pace with the mystery portion of the plot was tough to do. I won't be exploring the other two series myself though.

This book started out fast and furious with a woman and her band of mercenary-types trying to take down a drug cartel in Italy when a helicopter swoops in to interrupt. The action hardly slows from there. The female mercenary is Kyra a girl who believes she is a sociopath, but throughout the novel proves she is not without empathy or feelings. Kent is the profiler who saved her life when she was a child, but who is now happily married to another police detective. They all find themselves in London investigating a Jack-the-Ripper copycat. This is a fun unusual take on the investigation and solving of that unsolved case. I found the author has created an action packed page turner that is well worth reading.

I received a copy of this novel as a beta reader to offer my honest review!

Kent Harbinger is back and taking on Jack the Ripper. Or is it the Soho Slasher? It doesn't matter. Either way, he's crashing his honeymoon!

I did miss the interaction between him and Nicole. Kyra just wasn't the same. I also sort of missed Ruben. I would like to see more of Kyra, but in her own right and not always connected with Kent.

The flow of the book wasn't as fluid as some of the others. It felt more like they ran in circles and chased their tales than stalked and took on a killer. Otherwise, it was entertaining and well written. I definitely look forward to reading more with these characters.

Soho Slasher is a thrill ride that will keep you up in the wee hours of morning turning pages.

A brilliantly written serial killer novel that delves into the history of the unsolved Ripper case in Britain. Kent a knowledgeable profiler with a smartass sense of humor and Kyra the loner, team up to search for the copycat Jack the Ripper. But, will they find this copycat in time to save a life.

From beginning to end the novel will have you on the edge of your seat. This is a must read for all crime/serial killer fans!

Slow and kind of boring.

Just finished reading this book. Wanted to quit reading before the end. It didn't get really interesting until the end. So many mistakes with wording. Words not properly used and omitted occasionally. I doubt I will read any other books.

I really enjoyed this book. It flowed effortlessly from the last one and I enjoyed the change of scenery as it was set in England this time. Of course, Harbinger was just as awesome as in all the other books. I love his quirky and inappropriate behavior.

Utter nonsense, poorly written and badly researched. Worst of all it was so clichéd about the English that it would have felt racist if it wasn't so silly.
