If you’d told me yesterday that I was chosen to battle the Celestial Lands and the Underworld alongside an archangel and an archdemon who hate each other, I would have said you were crazy.

That was yesterday.

Sanctum was an interesting book that follows Lily in a why chose romance with devils and angels. I really enjoyed the overall plot of the story and the interesting take on the garden of Eden/heaven/hell.
This book did start out a bit slow for me and I almost wish there was more world building and more insight in some places that were shaping the major plot points. The last 25% of the book really picked up for me and I couldn’t put it down as I was anxious to find out if she would fulfill the prophecy.
There is definitely spice in this book (the author mentions it’s why chose). I enjoyed the plot enough that I would have preferred less spice and more action for the book. I would be interested in reading more by this author especially if she decides to continue this story.
I would recommend this book especially if you like a new spin on devils/angels. I’d give this book 3.5 ⭐️.
Thanks to NetGalley and Luna Kayne for the ARC!

I must say, it’s been a minute since a book has kept me interested from beginning to end.

The plot of Sanctum is absolutely gripping. While the first few chapters are sluggish, it does start to pick up and keeps that pace for a while. I’m not one to stake out books with religious contexts, and I did find myself researching some things, but it’s executed in a way that piqued my interest.

I should first mention that this is an adult spicy fantasy book. And let me tell you the spice is 100% there. Honestly, the book could have worked with or without the spice. The story is interesting enough that I sometimes forgot it’s an adult fantasy.

I am not a reader that pays close attention to tropes, so when I read that this is a “why choose” fantasy, I wanted to know specifically why it’s “why choose” instead of dnf’ing it completely. And after finishing, I’m still not sure why it’s made as a “why choose.”

I am a stickler when it comes to the pacing of books and while it is action packed, there are moments that do slow down. But even in those slowed down moments, it still kept me interested and wanting to know what happens next.

The world building was great, but it could have gone deeper. With a story like this, I want to feel what it’s like to be in those places and worlds. The smells, the atmosphere, the feeling of what it’s like to be there for the characters. Those feelings are there in some moments and places, but it could’ve gone deeper.

Also, there are places I wish could have had more time in the book, but sadly they didn’t. Along with that, we meet some interesting characters and then the next chapter we never see them again, which makes me wonder if they were needed in the first place.

When it comes to the character development, there could have been more, especially for our FMC. The bad ass woman from the first chapters is severely lacking in the rest of the book. The FMC, Lily, is a force to be reckoned with, but she starts to lose momentum as the story develops.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and while there could have been things added, I’m not going to completely write it off.

Thank you to Luna Kayne, NetGalley and Kayne Publishing for the ARC. I am leaving my review voluntarily and I am looking forward to reading more books by Luna Kayne.

thank you to netgalley and luna kayne for setting me up with this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

this book was a why choose romantasy between our fmc lily, an archangel, and an archdemon. the author uses biblical and greek mythos as a basis for the storyline but also adds in her own twists which i whole heartedly enjoyed. i really love anything having to do with mythology, and then when you throw some spicy romance in there, it makes for a thoroughly entertaining journey.

this was a super unique take on angels vs. demons and i felt like the plot line was nothing like i have ever read before. the stakes were very high and you could feel the intensity amongst the characters as they realize how dire the situation they find themselves in actually is. they were continually challenged and tested in order to get where they needed to be to fulfill the prophecy and i loved that there was always a lot of action. while i found some parts quite predictable, there were a few unexpected reveals that made it hard for me to put this book down. all i can hope for is to read a book that keeps me engaged, and outside of some initial (read: boring, slow) world building in the first 30% or so, this book definitely did that for me.

the chemistry between our thruple was evident, but personally i don’t love insta-love and that is definitely how the vibes came across (though i understand the part it played in this book specifically and why it was needed after having full context). i was looking for a bit more tension/jealousy between michael and asmodeus, but they pretty much folded right away and accepted both of their connection to lily which felt pretty unrealistic considering they are mortal enemies. while i loooove a why choose, i definitely like it when there is a bit of back and forth fighting over who deserves to claim her before they are completely accepting of their circumstances. it kind of felt like a missed opportunity to really highlight how powerful they truly are, but instead their power was only ever spoken of instead of showcased. who doesn’t love to fantasize about two legendary creatures with limitless power fighting over you?! womp womp.

found family is one of my favourite tropes, and i felt like the interactions amongst the cast felt believable and earnest. i’m hoping in the next book we get to dive a little bit deeper into the back stories of bowie, hecate, slade, and ragnar as we really have only broke the surface with them. from what i can tell already, their backgrounds seem super compelling and full of pain and trauma, but im also wondering how close to the actual mythology the author will/has written the characters. i will have to do some research just for my own sake!

in all, while i thought this book could have been shortened, i definitely had a good time. definitely recommend to anyone looking for a different take on gods and monsters and angels vs demons.

Firstly thank you to Luna Kayne, Kayne Publishing and Net Galley for giving me the opportunity to read the Sanctum eARC.

Wow. What a book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading Sanctum. The book starts with our FMC Lily, who manages to wander directly into the Underworld at 6 years of age and meet Asmodeus, an archdemon. Then we meet Lily as an adult and follow her and Asmodeus as their stories continue. I was hooked right from the start.

The book is so well paced and the plot is fantastic. I didn’t see any of the major twists coming and it was so well written that the reveals slowly pieced together the bigger picture which I loved.

The characters are beautifully written and the dialogue between them flows so easily. Every one of them had chemistry with each other and just worked together so well. Found family is a big element of Sanctum which is always a big hit with me. I found myself hugely invested in the stories and the fate in all of the characters, not just our main ones. We also get 3 main POVs which worked really well.

In short, I loved Sanctum. This is the first book I’ve read by Luna Kayne but I will definitely be reading more. Hoping and praying there will be more Primordial Lands novels as I would love to read about some of the other characters (Bowie please!!!)

If you love found family, romance with some spice, Heaven vs Hell, magic, angels and demons, prophecy and a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat, you need to get Sanctum on your TBR!

**Thank you to NetGalley and to Kayne Publishing for an ARC copy to review.**

DNF @60%

Lets start with the positives about this book. I like the idea of it a lot. I like the why choose aspect of the story as well, both the men in the story are pretty hunky and are thoroughly obsessed with the FMC. The story itself had good bones and I was VERY excited to see what it had in store on the onset of reading. Unfortunately that is where it ends for me.

I did not love the FMC Lilly. In the first couple chapters she was a baddie server and then she became a completely different character. Very meek and mild, afraid of her power and what she is. It was so exciting learning that she had power and that there was a shadow hunter like "chosen one" vibe about her. Unfortunately for me this didn't develop in a way I found intriguing. I found the relationships with the all of the characters progressed very quickly with no real reason or grounds for the developments. I didn't FEEL anything between the characters it felt too easy. Unfortunately for me there just wasn't enough depth to anything.

There were some plot points that really just didn't work for me however that's not to say another reader wouldn't love them for example:
-It gives me the ick that Asmodeus met Lilly when she was a child and he was full grown and now they are sexual together.
-Asmodeus talks about being a big ole demon but he isn't. None of his actions match what he is in most ways. I would expect a demon to be more prickly, less emotional, and more rough.
-There are plot holes like the demons not having been on earth for longer than Lilly has been alive but they fully know and understand parts of modern technology that they shouldn't.

I think a lot of the book is a "tell and not show" kind of story and that just doesn't work for me. Overall I really LOVE the idea. the premise is so good, being lusted after and protected by a high ranking demon and an archangel. The execution just isn't for me and that is okay. I think there is definitely a target audience for this book and I'm just not it. Two stars for the idea, I cant give it less because the potential is sky high.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author, Luna Kayne, for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was really excited about this story, and I believe it did have great potential. I enjoyed the why choose trope, and the how the story had a religious aspect. However, the execution for me fell flat.

I didn’t really particularly like any of the characters to be honest, and there was very weak world building. I found myself to be really confused about what was going on half of the time.

There was a lot of telling, rather than showing.

I personally don’t love the insta-love trope. I mean, I knew it was bad when I saw the phrase “it’s been a hot minute since..” in the book. I really didn’t need to know every single thought in the characters’ head.

Also, I got the ick pretty much from the start because you find out (pretty early on) that one of the MMCs essentially grooms the FMC. He has been watching over her since she was a child, and the book clearly states that he felt a protectiveness over her. Then, those feelings develop into something more and they’re in a sexual relationship when the FMC is an adult. Hmm, it’s a no from me.

Honestly, I skimmed the last 20% of the book.

Overall, I’m just not a fan of the writing style, and I still don’t really know what really happened.

I honestly dont know how i feel about this book. I just didnt enjoy it, but i cant quite put my finger on why? The story is something i absolutely should have enjoyed, the characters were decent. I just thought it was so arduous to read. I dont think ive ever read a book thats felt more like a chore to read.

To start, i suppose i feel the dialogue and «feelings» at times are a littleeee bit cringey. But i get why and im not too against that.
I think my main problem it feels underdeveloped but overdeveloped at the same time? Im not entirely sure, it just feels like the irrelevant parts are spoken about for ages, and then actual key details are glossed over a bit. Not always, but sometimes.

I feel like everything was «explain it to me» and not just show me. I feel like theres a way to SHOW me that a character is in significant pain without just saying «he howled in pain», you know? I really do feel like the writing style treats you like a young/new reading who doesnt understand subtext and cant infer anything, so the author just tells you everything. Not really my jig, did not enjoy that at all

Outside of that i honestly could not tell you why i found this book so difficult to read. But besides those points, maybe somewhat annoyingly, i did really enjoy the story, its just a shame that it was so difficult to get to that.

🛑 SOFT SPOILERS FROM HERE ON 🛑

I LOVED Michaels character development. Honestly i think its the best part of the book. Initially i was really on the fence about him, but he very quickly became my favourite character.

Gabriel was the PERFECT villain. Like, the way he was portrayed was honestly a masterclass, and if the whole book had have been as well written as his arcs were then honestly this would have been rated significantly higher. He is written to make you hate him, and hate him you shall. His defeat brings pure pleasure as you read it!

I loved the unity, the bond all the characters shared was very sweet and nice. There were some twists i also loved, namely, HECATE?! And the final reveal of Michael and Asmodeus actually being irrelevant because it was her parents the whole time. That was really great. I did think that was a great plot twist!

Overall there were parts i enjoyed but mostly im just glad I’ve finished this book, do i regret reading it? Id say yes. HOWEVER, I would also like to add that i dont want to discourage people too much from reading this book because, given that i cant exactly figure out why i didnt really enjoy it, it could be that this just isnt my kind of book. So i would encourage everyone to form their own opinion.

I received a free arc copy but im leaving a review of my own will.

You know what, it took me a few days to read this.. For me it's a relatively big book
BUT There was never a dull moment and it kept me engaged throughout. I forgot to write down notes for this review because I just didn't want to put the book down.

This is a why-choose with a fair amount of spice, which was just amazing btw (chapter 44&45) DAMN!
I've not read a why choose in a fantasy romance book before so this was a first, I do feel as though Michael didn't get as much of a connection then Asmodeus did and I would of liked more from them because the whole way through I was just rooting for Asmodeus rather than them both

I do feel like Lily had great character development in the end when she finally accepted who she was, the plot was gripping, with secret after secret.

Yes I will be buying the physical copy and desperately waiting for book 2

Perfect for those that do love spice in their romantasy! As Well as plot……..also a WHY CHOOSE with an archdemon and archangel!

3.5 stars rounded up

Sanctum by Luna Kayne offers an intriguing blend of low fantasy and why choose romance, centered around Lily, a human woman on a quest for self-discovery, familial ties, and her destined role in a vast universe including heaven and hell.

The dynamic between Lily and her two love interests is a highlight, showcasing delightful banter, acceptance, and a touch of spice. The concept of a love triangle involving an archdemon and an archangel adds a captivating twist to the romantic plot.

While the premise is compelling, the story's pacing felt a bit sluggish at times, particularly in the beginning, which made it challenging to stay engaged. Additionally, the multitude of plot elements sometimes led to confusion, as not every aspect received the depth it deserved. Despite these issues, the central theme of prophecy and its implications for Lily's journey was genuinely fascinating.

As a fan of Greek mythology, I enjoyed these aspects of the story a lot. Overall, Sanctum is a solid read with a unique premise, but it could benefit a lot if there plot structure was just a touch more cohesive.

Sanctum introduces us to Lily, a genuinely likable FMC torn between her dual connection to heaven and hell, embodying the struggle of two opposing identities. This “why choose” fantasy delivers a compelling premise that kept me intrigued, even when the pacing didn’t.

While the story had its strengths, the pacing was choppy at times, with slower lulls that dragged down the momentum. Thankfully, the unique concept and the overall execution of the plot made up for it. The world-building offered glimpses into an intriguing setting, though I would’ve loved to see more depth to fully immerse myself.

Lily’s character was well-written, balancing vulnerability and strength as she navigates her internal struggles. The supporting cast added layers to the narrative, but some relationships felt underexplored.

Overall, Sanctum is a solid read for fans of fantasy romance, especially those who enjoy a bit of heaven-and-hell intrigue. It’s not without its flaws, but the premise and characters carry the story where the pacing falters. I’d definitely recommend giving it a shot.

Firstly thank you Luna Kayne/Book Sirens for allowing me to read this eARC.

Solid ⭐⭐⭐.75

Ok so I loved how Lily's story started, cute 6 year old Lily, it was nice to have that background to start the book.

I do feel it needed a touch more world building in spots that fell a little flat for me, there were a few characters that I felt needed more to their story to help the plot in general because the middle it got slow, then all of a sudden it immediately picked up the last 25% overall though it was well put together.

I just wish it had a touch more, I loved that this was a why choose, Michael, Lily and Asmodeus iykyk 😉

Great story with good plot and alot of supporting characters throughout and look forward to reading what comes next.

I read this book as an ARC and really liked it.

I don’t usually like a book with a why choose trope and I almost didn’t read it because of it but I gave it a chance and I’m happy I did. The way the book was written made it so the trope didn’t stand out as much as it could.

I loved the characters and the story. The twists and turns had me not able to put it down. I also loved how we got 3 POVs.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because there were times where I felt the book was a little long and dragged. My other reason is because while I didn’t mind it I still don’t necessarily like the why choose trope. Otherwise I really liked the book.

Thank you NetGalley and Luna Kayne for this ARC read. I must say I did end up enjoying this book. It was a little slow for me in the beginning so it did take me a bit to keep picking it back up, but I’m really glad I did. The key component and plot was the prophecy and if the main character would fulfill it and I found that intriguing. It had just the right amount of spice for me. And I always enjoy a good why choose. I’m interested to see what else Luna Kayne will come out with in the future.

What initially drew me to this book was its intriguing premise—angels and demons, heaven and hell, and a mortal caught in the balance. The pacing in the first few chapters was excellent, instantly captivating me and urging me to keep reading. The trials for their soul's desire were a clever and engaging plot device, and the "why choose" romance was well-executed, adding depth to the story's emotional stakes. If you're a fan of paranormal romance or high-stakes fantasy, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a try!

I was SO intrigued with this book! From just a couple of chapters in, it’s full of action and I couldn’t put it down at all.

It’s all about Lily, who finds out she’s the offspring of not mortal parents after unwittingly meeting Asmodeus, the Prince of Demons, in the underworld when she was a little girl. She then pulls him and his three friends to her in the mortal realm when she’s older AND that’s when her life is turned upside down. Throw the Archangel Michael into the mix and that’s where it starts to get exciting.

For me, this is a fantastic tense, heart pounding epic story of love, adventure, secrets and sacrifice. It’s absolutely riveting with great character/world building and I found it mind blowing trying to keep up with what happens throughout the story.
LOVED IT!!!

I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest, voluntary review.

I wanted to like Sanctum—the premise is cool, the stakes are high, and who doesn’t love a celestial throwdown? But alas, it just didn’t work for me.

First off, the writing felt juvenile, like it got stuck in YA purgatory but didn’t have the self-awareness to ask for directions. The characters are supposed to be battling for the fate of existence, yet they mostly just bicker like contestants on a supernatural reality show. (Coming this fall: Hell’s Got Talent!)

Then there’s Lily. Poor, sweet, “chosen one” Lily. She’s thrust into this epic battle of good and evil, but her main personality trait seems to be… accidentally important. She’s the key to saving the realms, but half the time she’s giving “deer in headlights” energy while everyone else exposits at her like they’re narrating a Netflix recap.

The angel and demon hate each other, which should have given us some juicy enemies-to-reluctant-allies banter, but instead, it’s like watching two middle managers argue over who forgot to bring the coffee to the meeting.

I’ll give credit where it’s due—the world-building has potential, but it never quite takes off. It’s like someone told the author, “Go big or go home,” and they shot for “big” but forgot to pack the details that make it believable.

Overall, it’s not a terrible book; it’s just not for me. If you love chosen-one prophecies, celestial wars, and don’t mind a little melodrama, this could be your jam. As for me? I’ll be over here praying for better dialogue.

ARC read. Thank you NetGalley!!

I LOOOVE this book. I love a “why choose” romance. The relationships between Michael, Asmodeous and Lily are absolutely insane and definitely riveting from the beginning of the book bc since when do Archangels and archdemons work together and develop friendships? The Cameos from : Death, War, Gabriel, Uriel, hectate, God and Lilith make this book everything. The banter between death and lily is actually comical. Please give me a book two

I was kindly given an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fantastic thrill ride from the get go. The FMC has some great chatecter development across this story as she comes into her own.

But our MMCs charafter Development is just truly amazing. There are several lines in this referring to Michael that I've had to stop and re read multiple times as they shocked me to read, down to Lunas writing style and ability to suck you into the story.

The spice aswell was brilliantly written and I am now 100% sold oj the why choose trope.

I really really hope we get to see more of this world in future books becuase there's no much more to be told.

My favourite charecters were Death and Khella ♡

Thankyou for NetGalley for the ARC copy

I did really enjoy this book, and it would have gotten 4 stars if not for the somewhat disappointing character arc of the FMC.
She started out as a bit of a bad bitch, and then she just lost it around the halfway point.
I also felt there could have been a bit more of a slow burn before the smut took off…. And it did take off 🌶️
The story itself was really good, and I liked the writing style.
Looking forward to more from this author.

Received my copy on NetGalley

This book was so beautifully written. I was hooked on every word and nearly unable to put down this book. It’s a why choose romance with a prophecy and a trial. I found it to be a very interesting take on the whole demons and angels and it was original and honestly just completely fascinating.
There was some smut but it wasn’t too much, it was just enough. All of the characters were lovely, and well written. I loved the way the two male main characters worked through their jealousy and I adored the way their relationship with the female main character was written. The friendships were so beautiful and just everything I wanted.
Some parts of the book were confusing but that confusion was cleared up quickly enough.
There was a cliffhanger right at the end that just left me gasping for more. It wasn’t quite a five star but it was so close to being one for me. The main reason it wasn’t quite a five star is because in some places it was kind of predictable. The why choose also didn’t play out the way I had quite anticipated and in some parts I found it a little lacking.

Overall I absolutely loved this book and will be getting my hands on it when it is finally released.

The Sanctum Series whisks readers into a world alive and tense, where good and bad are not clearly defined, and on that thin path of power, betrayal, and forbidden attraction which these characters thread, readers will be kept entranced. Sanctum is an emotionally deep-read, a thrall not hard to remember, and one which will leave the audience begging for more.

Sanctum starts off with an intriguing prologue, introducing the demon Asmodeus as he treads through desolation in the Underworld. His life will never be the same when one little girl, Lily, falls into his realm, trying to escape her brutal reality. This very moment seals their bond mystically.

Years later, Lily grew into a beautiful, proud woman, but her dark past trailed her. Getting pulled again by Asmodeus, she falls right into a high-stake battle between the fragility of mere humanity and the seductive darkness of the Underworld. The more they are deep in their association with each other, the more the danger increases in revealing old, hidden truths about themselves that pertain to their fates, which seem to be entwined.

A story of survival and redemption-forbidden love intertwines, grounds for greater battles to come.

Lily:
An enigmatic protagonist, her stamina grown from a fully loaded loss-and-trauma childhood. The strength of a man so unobvious, yet he fights his way in continuous challenge through the mortal realm and his unseemly linkage with Asmodeus. Much of her inner drives between fear and desire, and survival, push the plot.

Asmodeus:
Asmodeus is a really layered anti-hero, tugged between his responsibilities as a demon and the blooming attachment for Lily. This commanding presence and razor-sharp wit mask the vulnerability. The connection to Lily compels him to change how he has viewed himself, hence forcing him to face feelings he has hidden for so long.

Supporting Characters:
The side characters fill in depth and color to the story, while Finley acts as a most steadfast best friend to Lily-playing protector and confident. Meanwhile, the allies and rivals of Asmodeus in the Underworld expose the complex political and power struggles of their realm.

It is a highly tense relationship between Asmodeus and Lily, repressed with unspoken feelings. Experience and the strength of Asmodeus are pitted against the determination of Lily to stay strong and independent. The power imbalance he, so thoughtfully touches brings emphatic depth into their connection, with glimpses of brief vulnerabilities shown by both.

While the traumas of her past are still there, resilience and facing fears charge her story of healing with a powerful element.

Wrapped in this core story is a power dynamic: in a relationship, through all this conflict as a whole. And inasmuch as it would speak to the battles within one's character, so it would speak of mortality's struggle against the immortal realm.

More so, Lily and Asmodeus question themselves as to who they are and what kind of person they want to be. But through the self-discovery journey which was shared, it was all about redemption.

In this case, physical attraction fades in comparison with growth, which the bond between Lily and Asmodeus propels them to-a growth that dares question one's view upon oneself and another.

Luna Kayne has some really evocative prose that weaves this dark, atmospheric narrative; she drops her readers into this sensual world.

The dialogue is sharp to contrast with tension or underlying chemistry among the characters.

Meanwhile, the point of view keeps changing and takes turns from one protagonist to the other, finishing the story even better and giving it more emotional drive.
I think the action was well-balanced with the character development and building of a good world.

Overall Rating: ★★★★☆
Writing Style: ★★★★☆
Characters: ★★★★★
World-Building: ★★★★☆

Trigger Warnings: Violence, blood, traumatic events in the past, mild gore, dark themes
Recommended for readers who love dark fantasy with complex power play and emotionally charged romance, with a dash of danger.

Thank you to NetGalley and Luna Kayne for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I sped through the first 100 or so pages. I was hooked, the story was fast paced and picking up in all the right places. We follow our main character Lily, who lost both of her parents at age six. From the moment she watches her parents tragically die, she's attached to a demon who attaches to her in return and ultimately bonds himself to her as she grows older. As the story progresses, we fall into a "why choose?" sort of plot, in a celestial world where angels and demons fall into the mortal world and Lily is navigating her own adventure of choosing between good or evil - or both - while fulfilling her own prophecy amongst archdemons and archangels.

I'll admit, I almost DNF'd at the very beginning when I realized this demon was going from wanting to protect her as a six year old to wanting to get her in the sheets as she grows into her teen and adult years. Not my thing, but I set it aside to give the plot a chance. The plot is racing and I'm following along okay, and then the plot is lost beyond me.

While I loved the characters and mythological/biblical references, there was very little description of these characters and the world they're developing in. This story had so much potential and fell very flat for me. Though I had the room to imagine these characters in my own mind, I would've loved more descriptions of them to really solidify their presence in the book. (If you enjoy the show Lucifer, those characters are kind of what I based the book characters on in my head.) It was hard to keep up with the ever evolving plot as the physical settings seemingly changed in and out so quickly that it felt like I was reading a story that had a preface that I wasn't aware of. Lily became very surface level amongst the other characters. Asmodeus was a beautiful character from the start but the sudden introduction of Michael really started to drive the story into a hole of confusion for me. I think I just expected...more?

This story seemed to be perfect as a YA novel if you take out the smutty scenes. If you love smut, the scenes in this book are very simple. Quick and somewhat sexy, but miss the mark for me. It would've been great even without the smut and with more world building and character building. I feel like there was an attempt to pack an entire series into one book and the plot began to unravel itself in so many directions that it was hard to keep focus.

Overall I was rooting for Lily to only choose Jett (Asmodeus) instead of both him and Michael as Michael didn't have the same build up that Jett did. Finn was a fun character along with the demons, but there just wasn't enough backstory for any of them to really make a connection.

The writing felt a bit juvenile which is totally fine and easy to read but if this novel was meant to be made into a series, I feel like there's a good bit of discrepancies that need addressing and hopefully those will play out in the books to come. There is so much room for more - more world building, character development, plot sorting and connection for the reader. I finished the book feeling a bit overwhelmed, but overall I didn't think it was necessarily 'bad', just okay. I can't explain it, but it reminded me of Lucifer meets Twilight in a way? Asmodeus calling Lily his "little lamb" a thousand times over gave me a creepy vibe in the way that if he hadn't been watching her since the age of six and then banging her any chance he could, maybe I could've bypassed that. Lily was also such a strong character at the beginning and then reverted to being timid as she's learning more about her past. (I get it, but I wanted her to have that same strength and confidence throughout the book.)

Thank you to Luna Kayne, BookSirens, and NetGalley for the ARC of Sanctum! I was so excited to dive into this story—the blurb promised an epic tale filled with angels, demons, and a mortal caught in the chaos. While the concept had incredible potential, the execution didn’t quite deliver the experience I was hoping for.

What Worked:
The premise was fascinating—Lily, a mortal destined to unite the Celestial Lands and the Underworld, is thrust into the middle of a brewing war between realms. The idea of a mortal being the key to saving (or dooming) both Heaven and Hell is a compelling setup, and the tension between her two protectors—an archangel and an archdemon—added an intriguing "enemies-to-reluctant-allies" dynamic. There were moments of chemistry and tension that stood out, particularly between Lily and Asmodeus (Jett), the broody and mysterious archdemon.

The tropes and themes were also enjoyable:

😇 Angel vs. Demon dynamic
🔥 Why Choose romance
⚔️ Prophecy and war threatening the balance between realms
🌌 Epic battles between Heaven, Hell, and Earth
😳 Spice amid chaos
These elements, paired with the dark, suspenseful atmosphere, provided a solid foundation and made for an interesting setup.

What Didn’t Work:
While the concept was fantastic, the execution felt overwhelming. The story tried to cram so much into a single book—world-building, plot twists, and nonstop action—that it became hard to keep track of everything. It felt like an entire series' worth of events compressed into one story, leaving little room for character development or emotional depth.

Lily’s character arc was especially disappointing. She started off as a fiery, confident woman, but quickly became meek and unsure, afraid of her power and her role in the prophecy. This shift felt inconsistent and frustrating, as her "chosen one" narrative had so much potential but lacked the depth and growth to make her journey compelling.

The romantic relationships also felt rushed. I was rooting for Lily to choose Jett (Asmodeus), who had a stronger connection and backstory, but Michael (the archangel) didn’t receive the same buildup or emotional weight. The "why choose" dynamic felt unbalanced and lacked the tension needed to make it believable. Finn and the other demons added some fun moments, but they didn’t get enough backstory to feel fully fleshed out, leaving the supporting cast underdeveloped.

Final Thoughts:
Sanctum is a book with incredible ambition and creativity. The idea of a mortal navigating alliances with an archangel and an archdemon to prevent a war between Heaven and Hell is unique and exciting. The story had all the ingredients for an epic dark fantasy, but the heavy world-building, overwhelming pacing, and lack of character depth kept it from reaching its full potential.

Fans of fast-paced urban fantasy with lots of twists, spice, and action might still enjoy this one. For me, I needed more time to feel the relationships, stakes, and character growth. Three stars for the epic concept, dark atmosphere, and glimpses of chemistry—but ultimately, this one didn’t quite work for me overall.

**Thank you to NetGalley and to Kayne Publishing for an ARC copy to review.**

I am starting off this review by saying that I ended up DNF’ing around the 70% mark.

The premise is what had me interested in this book to begin with - angels, demons, Why choose?? Count me in. However I had a few issues in regards to the execution.

First of all, I actually enjoyed the writing - I don’t have much to say against it. You can tell this isn’t the first book that the author wrote. The storyline progresses relatively seamlessly. However, I struggled with the world building - so much information is thrown our way that it’s hard to figure out what is actually happening - all this talk about prophesies, sacrifices, different realms, as well as the large array of characters just confused me. Apart from that, the world building fell flat for me.

I couldn’t personally connect with the FMC or either MMC - I just feel like they would need to be fleshed out more; at this stage, I have no idea what they’re meant to look like and the FMC got more meek and frightened of her powers as the book progressed which I’m not a fan of personally. Also the connection of the FMC to the MMCs feels quite rushed and not well developed? It just seemed like she jumped on them both literally with complete disregard for the other. She also states that Slade became her close friend, and I believe that happened within the space of a week. I would’ve just liked more build up and tension. ON TOP OF THAT, I feel like so many situations where reactions or emotions should be running high were entirely glossed over.

Asmodeus is depicted as being this broody, rough, dark demon but he isn’t at all - he might as well be a mortal with how soft he actually is; none of his actions match what he is in the majority of ways (except the spice scenes). Same with Michael - he was randomly introduced without much back story and she just folds for him like a lawn chair??

The story itself had good premise and I was VERY excited to see what it had in store when I began reading. Unfortunately that is where it ends for me; I just feel like the execution felt a bit flat. In my opinion, a glossary would be useful or even a map, just to keep on top of all the different creatures that are introduced throughout the book.

I think there is definitely a target audience for this book and I'm just not it. Three stars for the idea, I can’t give it less because the potential is there!

Thank you to Luna Kayne and BookSirens for the ARC of Sanctum! I was so excited to dive into this book—the blurb sounded like a wild and epic ride with angels, demons, and a mortal caught in the chaos. However, while the concept was incredible, the execution didn’t quite hit the mark for me. 💔

The story follows Lily, a mortal prophesied to unite the Celestial Lands and the Underworld in a brewing war. Thrust into this dangerous battle, she finds herself navigating alliances with an archangel and an archdemon who can barely stand each other. Add in some spice, high stakes, and an epic prophecy, and it had all the makings of a why-choose fantasy I usually love. But sadly, it felt like there was too much happening on every page, and it became overwhelming. 🌀

There were so many plot twists, world-building details, and character interactions that it was hard to keep up. It felt like the story was trying to cram an entire series’ worth of events into one book. 😕 This left little room for the characters to develop or for me to connect with them. I wanted to understand Lily’s growth, explore her dynamic with the archangel and archdemon more deeply, and feel the tension and emotions simmer. But instead, it felt rushed—like we were racing from one chaotic scene to the next without taking a breath.

That said, there were definitely some interesting moments! The idea of a mortal being the key to saving (or dooming) both Heaven and Hell was fascinating. The enemies-to-reluctant-allies relationship between the archangel and archdemon had so much potential, and there were glimpses of chemistry and tension that I really wanted more of. 🔥 I also loved the idea of a war threatening the balance between realms—such an epic setup!

Tropes and themes included:
😇 Angel vs. Demon
🔥 Why Choose Romance
💔 Enemies to Reluctant Allies
⚔️ Prophecy & War
🌌 Epic Battles Between Realms
💀 Mortal Caught in Supernatural Chaos
😳 Spice Amid the Chaos

While I wish I could say I loved Sanctum, it just didn’t work for me. I felt the characters got lost in the nonstop action and heavy world-building. If you’re a fan of fast-paced urban fantasy with lots of twists and don’t mind less character focus, you might enjoy this one! But for me, I needed more time to feel the relationships and stakes.

Still, I appreciate the creativity and ambition Luna Kayne brought to this story—it was clear a lot of thought went into crafting this complex world. Thank you again for the opportunity to read this! 🌟

SANCTUM is the first instalment in Luna Kayne’s contemporary, adult, PRIMORDIAL LANDS erotic, mythological, urban paranormal fantasy menage romance series. This is twenty-six year old, Lily, archdemon Asmodeus aka Jett, and archangel Michael.

Told from three first person perspectives (Lily, Asmodeus and Michael) SANCTUM focuses on twenty-six year old Lily, a young woman whose parents were murdered twenty years earlier, a young woman who is much than she could have ever imagined. At six years of age, Lily’s spirit left the human world in the wake of her parent’s death, and she found herself under the protection of the Prince of Demons, Asmodeus aka Jett. Upon returning to the Earth realm, Lily would grow up in the foster care system, meeting her best friend and mentor Finley along the way. Fast forward to present day, a field party ends with the arrival of hellhounds and demons, with only Finley and Lily surviving to see another day. Calling out for help, Lily invokes the name of Jett, the man who saved her years before, one of the men with whom Lily will fall in love. As Jett (Asmodeus), Lily, Finley, and Asmodeus’ demon friends Ragnar, Slade and Bowie go in search of the truth, the Archangel Michael comes into play, as he becomes part of Lily’s entourage, taking hold in her heart.

The world building focuses on the uniting of the three worlds: Celestial Lands, The Underworld and Earth; the preparations for war, and the discovery of the living heart of God. Metaphors, teachings, preachings and Christian spirituality all wrapped up in a story of power and control, life and death, and the ultimate hunger for domination.

There is a large ensemble cast of otherworldly and celestial secondary and supporting characters: Soul hunters, hellhounds, The Fates aka Moirai, Synergies, Underworld demons Ragnar, Slade, Bowie: Death; Archangel Gabriel, Archangel Uriel; Lily’s best friend and guide Finley-not every one will survive.

SANCTUM is a story of power and control, secrets and lies, betrayal and anarchy, family and friendships, relationships and love. The character driven premise is detailed, enchanting and complex; the romances are seductive and fated; the characters are determined, desperate, dynamic and powerful. SANCTUM ends on a happily ever after-for now.

Twenty years ago, the prince of demons, Asmodeus, lived in the Underworld. Asmodeus thinks no one can come there, but a young girl named Lily who is wearing cute pajamas with lambs all over them suddenly appears. In the present day, waitress Lily all grown up works in a hole in the wall diner with her best friend and roommate Finley. When Finley invites Lily to a campsite, suddenly all hell breaks loose. The people there at the campsite are attacked while Lily and Finley fight to escape. Asmodeus shows up. Lily doesn’t understand how he even appeared but then learns that she brought him to the mortal realm. Without realizing her power, Michael the archangel also shows up to stop the threat. Lily must figure out who killed her parents while also trying to stop the all-out war between demons versus angels without falling for both Asmodeus and Michael. Good and evil will battle for a mortal girl who will change destiny and fate through her love for them both.
This romantic fantasy was just an utter surprise and a total joy to read! Demons, mortals and angels are wittily combined is written quite masterfully! The idea of a love triangle will make a lot of people shy away, but this love triad just really works. Making you question the love between Asmodeus/Lily and Michael/Lily is both tragic but leaves me in hopeful anticipation! In fact, all the characters are just amazingly complex, and the vivid world building is delightfully done! It is really hard to decide who to go, for team Asmodeus or team Michael, because both are just marvelous! Asmodeus might be all demon and plays on his baser primal instincts, which I loved his demon side. While angelic Michael just stunned me! I’ve always pictured Michael as being a virgin and would not have desire or lust for a female, but it’s enjoyable to read that he is knocked off that holy pedestal by a human. Lily has a tough choice and most of the time I wanted all three to live together. The open ending begs the question of who will finally get to claim Lily and what will happen to the rest of the group too. I eagerly look forward to the next in the series, but while I wait, I will just read this again and again. I have to congratulate Ms. Luna Kaye on a fantastic book that everyone will love!

Flew through this book: overall, the storyline is captivating from the beginning on and the writing easy to read and follow along. There is a variety of fun characters and they each have their own storylines. They are sweet and loving, there is a sense of found family, hate to love, hidden identity and the smut was on point and very hot.

However, as a lot happens in this book, the character development and their dynamics could be stronger.

The characters are engaging and each have their own specificity, which could have been developed even further. For instance, the demonic and angelic figures have an interesting dynamic of opposition - agreeing on one thing and what surrounds this one thing - but their inner struggles could have been externalised or amplified some more. As it is, they seem to agree pretty quickly. Similarly, their fall and rise are crucial to the story, but come across more as a fatality than a hard-earned ending to their struggles.

While the speed at which the characters follow up with all unfolding events could be seen as maturity, their struggles do not read as real struggles. Time flies by and whatever they seem to try and battle against, they immediately come out of as winners.

Which some might like, some less, is the extra super primal power one of the characters has. It blows everything into huge proportions and stakes, while the tension expected with such high stakes does not follow. That particular character also accepts that fate surprisingly fast. This "extra" or "above" level of power reminded me of Poppy in J.L.Armentrout.

It would be here interesting to read L.Kayne's take on more "ancient powers" with the stories of Death or War. The hierarchy of power dynamics could then be enriched. So far we seem to have a spectrum from basic to grand powers (ie easy castings to strong witches), than the primal powers, and the third also primal but out of time powers of death, chaos etc. This dynamic or their differentiation was lost on me in this book as we are directly introduced to very high stakes.

𝐎𝐤𝐚𝐲 𝐬𝐨 𝐈'𝐦 𝐚 𝐡𝐮𝐠𝐞 sucker for a good why choose romance and Sanctum definitely hit the spot in a lot of ways. The mix of celestial and demonic forces, a prophecy that's been waiting to unfold, and a human (that we know of) thrown into the middle of all of this. This book is a chunky one at about 600 pages but it was really fast paced so for the most part it kept my interest.

𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝... I had some mixed feelings about the romance. While I enjoyed the tension and the dynamics between Lily and her men, the relationships felt a little rushed. I just wanted some more build-up, more emotional depth before all the spice happened. Now don't get me wrong...I love a good spicy time, I mean sign me up BUT in a fantasy book especially, I want to feel the angst between the love interests and get into the banter. When the spice did hit, it was really good.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐤𝐞𝐩𝐭 me hooked for most of this book was the overall plot. The prophecy, the battle between realms, and Lily's journey from a mortal to something else? That I don't want to give to many spoilers on. I did like the found family aspect. I think the author did well on making you fall for the characters and how they protect one another.

𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥, Sanctum was a good, fast paced read with an unique plot. If you love supernatural adventure with some why choose in there then you'll like this one.

Make no mistake, I love this genre along with all the tropes of this book, so while Sanctum held the right formula and had all the pieces to make a great story, it just didn't hit the five star mark for me.

At the beginning of the book , where Lily first meets Jett, as he calls himself, I was completely riveted. A mortal girl who is completely unbothered by running into a demon and it appears that she most likely has some kind of power that has yet to be truly harnessed...cool, cool and very cool. I loved where the story was headed and Lily seemed like an amazing character. Unfortunately, as the story gathered steam; meaning  more characters, more worlds, more of the prophecy, just more in general-the book began to lack depth and real connection. Everything began to thin and I felt less emotion between everyone as more..well everything else...was just piled on to cover up for the lack of  character growth.

There are some positives that do lead to that four star part of my review. Overall, I loved the devotion that everyone had to Lily. She is a bright light in everyone's orbit. Whether she is just their friend, or their lover, it doesn't take long for someone to trust and fall for her. I also loved the continued twists. While the characters didn't necessarily bring a lot of depth, the plot kept bringing one twist after another. It also kept fairly true to most supernatural and mythological legends, but with some unique and original twists that I really enjoyed.

Would I have loved a deeper, emotional overall growth between the main characters...sure, but considering the grand plot of the book with the prophecy that includes both archangels and archdemons and the rest of the plot this book, it is an enjoyable one that will entice any fantasy lover.

Thank you to BookSirens for the advance review copy and all opinions are my own.
