Thank you NetGalley & Penguin Group Berkley Publishing Group and New American Library for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Mainly, I didn't know this is the second book in a series. The good thing is, it can be read as a standalone. Well... sort of because I'm a bit lost at some parts but there are a few mentioned here about what happened on the previous book.

The story started on Michelle Alger's past when she was kidnapped and tortured in Colombia by a drug cartel. She was brutally tortured in their hands and is rescued by a soldier, Captain Jeremy Malone. She thought of him as her hero. He gave his contact number so that whenever she needs him.. He will come around right away. Some circumstances happened, they part each ways..

6 years later..

It is destined they will cross each other again. Michelle still suffers from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) because of her horrendous past, she was accused of murdering a US Senator's son based on his last whereabouts. She is on the Wanted List and the only one who could help her is Jeremy. On the other hand, Jeremy Malone and his team works for the Senator and his mission is to hunt the woman who killed his son. Once he recognized Michelle from the video footage, he knew she isn't capable of doing such crime. He needs to find out what really happened, and collect evidences to prove she is innocent and also to protect her from danger.

This is a great romance novel. I like the mystery, some romantic, sappy moments between Michelle and Jeremy (He's hot guy by the way. ) but I find some parts of the story not interesting. Not that I don't want to get to know them, but they'll get their turn soon (More couples in black ops. *fist bump*). I just want it more focused on the main characters. That's all. How I wish I've read the first book so I could understand it better.

**FULL REVIEW**

"A pair of dark eyes filled her mind. Rage, sadness, compassion, respect. All those emotions had fitted through his irises as he rescued her from Hell. Captain Jeremy Malone, Green Beret. Hero. She didn't remember much about the actual rescue, but she'd never forget his eyes or his voice. They spoke to her soul. Her feelings for that man went way beyond gratitude, though she had that in spades. It was like she had finally found the other half of herself she hadn't realized was missing. Her Cappy. The memory of his smile when she dubbed him the nickname because she couldn't muster the stamina to say more helped chase away the ghosts."

This is one of those books that had me from the prologue. It was the perfect set up for the story, one that had me wondering where it would lead.

When Cappy and Michelle are reunitied, I got exactly what I was hoping for. And Talon. I think I love that man...and his SCK nickname!

But, there was a lot of unexpected too. And plenty of detail. I really liked finding out about the history between old comrades, new enemies, and where true loyalty lies. This was a great continuation in the SBG Series. I look forward to the next! *wiggles eyebrows*

My Review:
I adored the first book in this SBG series, about a group of private military contractors, so I had very high hopes for this one. Overall, it did not disappoint.

The book starts six years prior to present day when Jeremy was an active duty Green Beret doing a cartel raid in Colombia. In the course of the mission, he rescued Michelle, who had been with the cartel for over a day...by the time they got to her, she was not in good condition anymore. That single mission changed their lives in more ways than one. For Jeremy, it brought him to life in SBG as Cappy. For Michelle, it took her to WITSEC because of the cartels. They both have a LOT of enemies out there coming at them from different directions because of the events that happened during and leading up to that raid. They just don't realize that they are lurking.

Michelle is still extremely traumatized from her captivity. To the point where she hasn't had a relationship since. She's working to overcome that, but in the chaos of trying to have sex, instead ends up as chief suspect in the murder of a Senator's son. That senator is the main supporter of SBG, and he calls in Cappy's unit to find her. But Michelle calls Cappy to help her too. They had an instant connection during her rescue (which just felt slightly off to me).

Like the first book, this book is action packed from page one. And it's a huge team novel so there is a lot of action and dialogue between a lot of characters. P.A. DePaul does an incredible job with this dynamic and showing the closeness of the team, even when some of them are at odds. My favorites at this point...Romeo and Magician; and I still love Talon although he had a different feel to his character in this book than he did in the first. He's gotten harder and I think that just makes me love him more.

There are also a lot of layers to the suspense story line. It didn't feel like there were any shockers, but the way the pieces all laid out was a great puzzle that I enjoyed. Overall, it was a great book. I love military style romantic suspense and this series is a great one for that. I always love the tight teams and this one is one of the best teams out there. LOVE!

I'm ready for book #3!!

(Little annoyances that weren't huge issues, but they did affect my overall rating...insta-love/connection although the characters didn't see one another for six years, 'mine', continuous breakdowns/flashbacks from Michelle which weakened her overall as a character.)

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This story had me hooked from the beginning. It was action packed with a great plotline. The main characters are Michelle and Cappy (aka Jeremy). They’d met six years ago when Michelle was captured and tortured. Cappy was working as a Green Beret and got her freed. Years later, they met again by chance, but the situation wasn’t a good one. Cappy wanted proof that Michelle had nothing to do with the situation she was found in, but even when she couldn’t find proof, he believed she was being truthful. The relationship between the two were genuine and felt real.

The romance with military and detective came together extremely well. I enjoyed the writing and all the characters. The pacing was also on-point. It’s been a long time since I’ve read a romance this good. I wasn’t sure what to expect going in, but I’m happy that I read it.

This story from start to finish was one suspenseful adventure. This book has been updated and republished. The story is fast paced even though we know who the bad guys are it did not take anything away from overall enjoyment.

Michelle is in trouble so she calls Cappy. He told her if she ever needed him he would be there. Lots of people blaming her for thing’s beyond her control.

Never had he seen Cappy so agitated or so protective.

There is a large cast of characters and there interactions are crazy good.

The Delight

We get to Cappy's story! He's the leader of the group so I had a hard time wrapping my head around him falling in love. Loyal and quiet, I just had a hard time picturing him in love. Throw in a heroine who has gone through Hell, but never forgot the man who saved her. She's the rock that holds them together.

The son of the Senator turns up dead and a video of his last moments turns up, everyone is on the hunt for Michelle Alger. On the run now with no one to turn to, she calls a number. A number of a man who once saved her and said he would be there no questions asked, only to die in battle. Dare she call? Yes! Who else could it be? Cappy of course! Now the senator is chasing her and drug lords from her past (no she wasn't into drugs) running her down, she has to rely on the one man who saved her once.

Well, good ole Captain Jeremy Malone, now Cappy to the Delta Squad, has the Senator breathing down his neck to bring in the woman who killed his son. Jeremy doesn't believe for a minute Michelle did it. But the video shows her going into his room and running out quickly. Who else could it be? Does he save the woman he had a connection too or turn her over to the senator and let her flounder on her own?

Jeremy's had an instant connection to Michelle from the moment he saved her. Six years hasn't done anything to kill the sparks that fly between these two. But there really isn't a lot of bedroom time. The first sexual encounter doesn't come until later in the book, and kind of left me feeling blah. These two are sweet together, but I just didn't feel a spark ignite from my Kindle.

Being part of a black ops unit you have a very close knit family. Like every family they have their squabbles, snarky moments, but when the chips are down, they have each others backs. We get some closer time with Romeo as he works out some feelings he has which was a delight to see him start to realize a few things. Wraith is back with her man and Talon threatening him in each encounter. I still want to crack Magician's head open and figure out what she is thinking! Throw an operative from another team and you have a snarky, lovable team of characters that will kill you if you mess with their own.

The action was the prime part of the story as you race against time to see if Cappy can save Michelle. Will the cartel get her again? Or will the Senator destroy her life? Will she see her parents again? Is Witness Protection over? So many questions that you will have to read the book to find out. Seriously, what are you waiting for. Go! Go! Go buy the book!

Hero worship or rescue complex? Oh no, their relationship so much more than that. Cappy and Michelle had an instant connection from the first time they met. It wasn’t the best of circumstance, but it was obvious that the connection was strong. To prove, even after six years had passed, their feelings are still there. It was palpable, mutual and cannot be denied.

After Captain Jeremy Malone aka Cappy and his team rescued Michelle Alger from a Cartels, they had gone their separate ways trying to survive the tragedy they experienced. But not a day passed that they didn’t think of the other. Their paths will cross again when Michelle is caught up in the murder of the Senator’s son. As fate would have it, Cappy leads the Delta Squad, who will help the Senator find the murderer and help find her freedom and maybe love. Unfortunately, so much has happened, so much is at stake, and there’s so much more they will need to deal with before they can ever be together.

SBG is turning out to be a good series to follow. I thoroughly enjoyed the first installment, Exchange of Fire, and I found Shadow of Doubt even more enjoyable. It was a good blend of suspense, action, and romance. The twists and turns of the story kept me intrigued and reading on. I enjoyed Cappy and Michelle’s story; they’re sexual tension was off the hook. I also loved the camaraderie, banters and the fights this group has. But what I love most about this book is the secondary character build up which lacked from the previous installment. I feel like I got a good view of who the members of the team are, and it made me want to read more about them. Which brings me to the point of who the next book will be about. Looks like Romeo and Magician will be a couple. From what I can see there will be some angst and a lot of hurt in that story. But I’m hoping it will be Talon’s story. He’s been hurt bad, and he deserves his HEA. That’s definitely an anticipated read for me and I cannot wait!

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Shadow of Doubt by P.A. DePaul is the second romantic suspense book in the SBG series.  This installment delivered an exciting tale from start to finish. I didn't read book one, but that had no effect on my experience with Shadow of Doubt. It works well as a stand-alone. The story provided me my first experience with the author's work and left me wanting more.

Shadow of Doubt features Jeremy Malone and Michelle Alger. These two first met six years ago under traumatic circumstances. Members of the Colombian cartel kidnapped and tortured Michelle and Jeremy, an active Green Beret at the time, rescued her. The events of the kidnapping leading up to the rescue would change both their lives.

Fast-forward six years later, Michelle is in witness protection and Jeremy is a private military contractor with the Delta Squad, a covert arm of the Sweet Briar Group (SBG). They haven't seen each since that fateful day six years ago. All that would change when Michelle became a suspect in the murder of a senator's son.  In her attempts to evade law enforcement and clear her her name, she called upon the one person who promised to come to her aid if she should ever need help.

Romantic suspense is my catnip, and so I am always on the lookout for stories in the genre. I had a great time getting to know the members of the Delta Squad. This team of men and women are like one big family and like any family while they may have their disagreements, they supported each other through thick and thin.

Shadow of Doubt provided a mix of suspense, action and romance. The main focus was on the suspense and action, with the romance served on the side. The action and suspense kept me glued to the pages. Now, while there were no surprising outcomes, seeing how it all played out made for an enjoyable, nail-biting read. I was glad to see the villains get their just deserts.

As much as I enjoyed the story. I had issues with the romance. The hero and heroine shared an instant connection when they met for the first time six years ago. Bear in mind, this meeting took place when the hero rescued the heroine from the Colombian cartel. They didn't spend much time in each other's company then, and for six years they had no communication with each other. However, during that time, they never stopped thinking about each other. After six years of no communication, the connection was stronger than ever. Sorry! I don't buy it.

Overall, Shadow of Doubt was a good book. Readers who love military style, special ops romantic suspense, should consider picking up a copy of Shadow of Doubt. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

Captain Jeremy Malone rescued Michelle Alger from a drug cartel in Colombia and promised to be there if she ever called. But then things went horribly wrong and his team got in the way of a car bomb. Jeremy was the only survivor but ended up working undercover as part of a black ops team.

Michelle has been dealing with the aftereffects of her torture and abuse as a person in the witness protection program. She has never forgotten the man she called "Cappy." When she finds herself in trouble again, accused of the death of a senator's son, she pulls out a six-year-old scrap of paper and gives Cappy a call.

Since Cappy's team works for the Senator, she is close at hand. The Senator believes that Michelle is the one who murdered his son; Cappy refuses to believe it. Michelle is just one piece in a complicated plot for revenge. It takes the whole team to unravel all the plot threads in this one.

There was a lot of romantic tension when Cappy and Michelle meet again. Michelle has had bad experiences with men over the years who reject her because of her very scarred body. She also still have PTSD regarding her captivity. Cappy has never forgotten the connection they made either but he is convinced that Michelle can never be part of the deep undercover life he leads and the danger he faces on a regular basis. Michelle is eager for a relationship but Cappy needs a lot of convincing.

This was a nice romance and was filled with lots of suspense too. It is the second book in a series and, while I wish I knew more about the events of the first book, this one stands alone quite well.

SHADOW OF DOUBT is full on romantic suspense goodness! The way that Michelle’s battle with PTSD and trying to survive her past while facing her present danger is so well done. I really appreciated how realistically she reacted to the situations that she found herself in. DePaul didn't use over the top crazy scenarios or reactions to get her trauma across to the readers. Michelle's actions were what I would expect from a traumatized but otherwise "normal" woman who just happens to be facing murder charges.

Then there's Cappy (Jeremy). Cappy is one of the best romantic suspense heroes that I have come across. Strong, no holds barred attitude, a bit abrasive at times, yet still caring enough to want to help Michelle without treating her like a delicate and fragile woman. Not that Michelle would have put up with any of that nonsense anyway! Although reluctant to truly be with Michelle Cappy can't deny the attraction they share for long. He tries to focus solely on his mission, he really does, but he doesn't really stand a chance. Poor guy can't fight the pull that Michelle has on him despite the danger and intrigue that surround her.

In SHADOW OF DOUBT we get lots of action and full on suspense with a bit of romance thrown in. Although there is a love story being told, there aren't many overly explosive sex scenes. Sexual attraction and intensity yes, but the actual coming together doesn't happen until much later in the story and isn't missed at all. The build up is quite rewarding.

*I received an early copy of this book for review. *

Shadow of Doubt is an excellent addition to the SBG series. I liked that this story took us on a different sort of ride than book one.

Shadow of Doubt kicks off with our first glimpse of Michelle and Jeremy's initial meeting which leaves us wanting more. Unfortunately, when they meet up again, its not because of anything good or fun, instead its the start of a mystery and both Michelle and Jeremy are struggling to find trust between each other.

There is Murder, and mystery, questions arise about so many things but there's also wicked chemistry and fighting of feelings. In essence, this book has pretty much everything and brings it all together in a wickedly thrilling tale.

Michelle has suffered a lot in her life, and though Jeremy thinks he knows all about it, he couldn't be more wrong. I love that Michelle understands what she considers her limitations and that she still has FIGHT in her. She may not be over what has happened, but she doesn't let it keep her down, for the most part.

Jeremy has his own demons to face and he lets them get in the way of his heart most of the time. But he also battles his brain on things as he takes on this latest mission. He's got secrets of utmost importance to keep and that means pushing outsiders away or at least he feels that's what he must do.

This was a wonderfully blended tale of romance and suspense and the secrets we keep. Looking forward to more from this series and author.

Bullets and sexy romance. What more do you want in a book? P.A. DePaul does it again. In the sequel to Exchange of Fire, she continues to follow the SweetBriar Group and their clandestine missions. This time, it’s tracking down a killer who may or may not be a girl Cappy rescued from a drug cartel many years ago. They’re also battling their old nemesis who manages to wield influence from inside a jail cell. To complicate matters they’re being hunted.

This book has enough action to keep the pages turning, and enough heart to keep you rooting for the characters. The tension and humor are just right, and it’s a fun read. People who like Janet Evanovich will like this book.

This one was a wild ride! Michelle, who already is in witness protection is now running again for her life after video of her fleeing a hotel, where the senators son was murdered goes viral. How could this have happened? The one time she lets her guard down, and the worse possible things has happened and nothing makes sense. The senators son was very much alive and breathing when she left, he may have been a jerk but she that didn't warrant him to be murdered. There is only one person from her past that she has kept information on, and he may be the only one to help her get out of this situation and is already aware of her past and her fears. Can Cappy save her again and is she telling the truth or is there something more going on? He knows he has a mission to accomplish but this woman does something to him, and he needs to figure out how to put emotions aside and not let tunnel vision cloud his judgment until he can figure out all of the pieces to this. This story had a lot to it, but it all came together. Lots of characters, lots of personalities and lots of history! Thank you to Author Marketing Experts for the tour invite and to the author for the complementary novel. I now need to read the first one!

P.A. DePaul, the author of “Shadow of Doubt” has written a powerful, gripping, dynamic and captivating novel. The Genres for this book are Suspense, Romance, Military Fiction,Contemporary Fiction, and Adventure. This book is one powerhouse of action and adventure, with twists and turns, betrayals, and danger at every corner. This is a well written novel that vividly describes the activity and dramatic characters. The author describes her characters as complex, complicated, flawed, courageous, adventurous, and combative. Some of the characters are manipulative, dangerous, cunning and resourceful. There are ex-military operatives and special operatives. Six years ago, Captain Jeremy Malone rescued Michelle Alger from a kidnapping by a Colombian Drug cartel. Now Michelle is in Witness protection, and becomes a suspect after going out one night with the senator’s son who is killed.

Jeremy and Michelle have amazing chemistry, but he has to determine what happened. He also has to protect Michelle from different enemies. My heart was racing as I was reading this book. It was hard for me to put it down. I highly recommend this action packed novel.

Have you ever read a book that you simultaneously wanted to savor and also speed through because it was just that good? That was this book for me. The opening scene is horrific but sets the scene really well for the characters. This is a romantic suspense book and the romance and the suspense are not in short supply. The action isn’t in short supply either. The action alone will keep you on the edge of your seat and make you want to turn the pages faster.

While this is the second book in the series, this can be read as a standalone. I actually didn’t realize this was the second in the series until the end of the book. At no time did I feel like I missed out on anything. I loved seeing how all things intertwined and how it was going to be discovered while it was intertwined.

This is an absolute must read for anyone that likes romantic suspense, action packed books, and/or books that have black ops!

This book was very entertaining, it held my attention and kept me wanting more. It encompassed multiple genres with the story beginning with an adventure in the amazon and a military rescue operation, a spark of romance, blackmailing and murder mystery involving government and black ops programs, along with the developing forbidden romance and sexual tension. All of the characters were well developed and distinct, making the reader feel connected with them. As a whole it was very clearly developed and thought out. I was rather surprised to come across numerous grammatical errors that should've been caught by even an inexperienced editor. Aside from those small errors the book was very good.

Really enjoyed my time spent reading this book. I am a “after everyone is asleep” reader so I looked forward to delving into the pages all day. It was suspenseful enough to keep me on edge and the story was well developed. Definitely a slooooow burn but it had a solid climax 😉. I liked all the characters and while I’m sure Cappy is most peoples favorite, I’m with Isis and totally “team Talon”...

Michelle Alger has endured enough hell on earth to make a grown man beg for mercy. Six years ago she was tortured by a Colombian cartel and while she was rescued, she has never been able to overcome the trauma, or forget the man who saved her. Now she’s wanted for the murder of a senator’s son and has no choice but to run. Not knowing who to trust she turns to the man who saved her life hoping that he can save her once again.

Captain “Cappy” Jeremy Malone has never forgotten the woman he and his team of Green Berets rescued but given his new life as not only a member but a leader of the super elite Delta Squad, he was forced to push her memory to the back of his mind. Now with the senator ordering his team to bring his son’s killer to justice, Jeremy has no choice but to face his past and the woman who could make or break him.

Once again author P.A. DePaul delivered a fast paced mix of action, suspense and mystery! Shadow of Doubt took another of the mysterious members of Delta Squad and laid his secrets bare. Cappy, the much loved and respected leader of the team seemed so indestructible. I didn’t think he had any weaknesses. About three pages into Shadow of Doubt that all changed. I loved the brief but very significant glimpse into Cappy’s life when he was just Captain Jeremy Malone. It gave me such a clear picture of who he was and who he became but it also showed such raw emotions that aren’t always present in the hardened warrior he became. With Michelle, he didn’t pull the macho man card or use her circumstances to control her. He was as straight forward with her as he could be without compromising his team but he also had this tenderness that revealed a lot more about him than all the action sequences could.

Michelle, while the main victim of the story never gave up on survival. Even with severe PTSD and enough fear flooding her veins to make her into a total mental case, she kept herself together, only allowing herself tears when everyone was safe. She wasn’t what I was used to in a heroine; she was more of a damsel in distress which kind of irked me. She did have one great moment of awesomeness when she thought Cappy was being threatened. If Michelle had tapped into that side of herself from the very beginning, she would have been a much better heroine in my eyes. I get that she needed help out of the situation she was in but a little more physical cooperation and a little less “follower” attitude goes a long way in making a strong heroine.

Shadow of Doubt definitely brought the mystery with the team trying to figure out who is responsible for the murder of the senator’s son. With so many possibilities, author P.A. DePaul lead me on a merry chase trying to figure out who the villain was. Each possibility was valid and I saw how each one could be “the one” but I didn’t even get close to figuring it out by the time the curtain was lifted and the identity of the antagonist was actually revealed. That’s truly one thing I hope DePaul continues to do in this series: Keep me guessing and on my toes. That’s what makes a solid romantic suspense.

With Cappy’s past now out in the open that leaves only three more members of the team including the heartbroken but scary as heck Talon. Is it wrong that I want his book next? Of course, the romance novel reading Romeo could be interesting too. There’s no way that guy can be all smiles and charm all the time. Either way, I’m just as eager to learn these characters’ real names as I am their back stories so I’m good with whoever is next.

A few pages into this book and my first thought was: "who goes to a South American country and wanders the rain-forest without armed military escort?" I wouldn't! And if I had to, I'd have to have an exceptional reason and a battalion of troops along with me as well as some air support! Unfortunately for our heroine, her decision to explore the Colombian rain-forest leads to the most horrific experience of her life. Michelle Alger was an exchange student on a trip to Colombia when she was captured and tortured by a cartel until she was rescued by a specialized military team led by Captain Jeremy Malone. Even though their interaction was very brief, a powerful bond was forged between them, a bond that would lead to them being reunited six years later.

It's been six years since Colombia and Michelle has mostly kept to herself but the one time she lets her guard down, she becomes embroiled in a murder and goes on the run. Out of options, she contacts Jeremy for help. What she doesn't know is that Jeremy is a part of a clandestine group of operators headed by the senator whose son she's accused of killing and he has his orders regarding her.

What follows is an exciting story of unending suspense, intense action and an unbreakable bond that ends in forever love. Both Michelle and Jeremy are unprepared for the strength of the attraction between them and Jeremy finds himself torn between following the orders he's been given and protecting Michelle.

SHADOW OF DOUBT exceeded my expectations in every way and has netted Ms. DePaul a place at the top of my list of must-read authors because I was completely drawn in by the writing. The story is like a giant puzzle and only the reader has all the pieces and the task of putting them together to form a picture. Everything appears to be working against the characters and they can't just catch a break!

Speaking of characters, Michelle was a warrior in my opinion. Her experiences were enough to break even a hardened soldier, but she kept her head up and fought to regain control of her life. And she was exactly what Jeremy needed. Jeremy was a man hardened by war and loss but with Michelle in his life, he has hope. I was not expecting how emotionally affected I would be by their bond and I loved that Michelle stood up to him and the rest of the team when needed.

I really enjoy stories where there is a lot of interaction with secondary characters without the main characters being lost and that was one reason why I loved SHADOW OF DOUBT so much. The secondary characters are so much a part of what happens with the main characters that the story wouldn't be what it is without them. SBG put together a motley crew of people who each have a story to tell and whose personal experiences benefit the entire group in some way.

I loved SHADOW OF DOUBT so much that even before I had finished it, I purchased the first book in the series and was on the author's website looking for information on the rest of the series.

Oh I loved this book so much more than Exchange of Fire! Cappy intrigued me in book 1 and I was excited to find out more about him.

Shadow of Doubt brings us the history of former Green Beret Captain Jeremy Malone starting with a joint op in Colombia 6 years ago to take out a major cartel that also resulted in the rescue of a kidnapped American college student. That student was none other than Michelle Alger who has just reappeared in Cappy's life in the most unexpected way.

Since they last saw each other, Michelle has been living in isolation from anyone who knew her at the time of her kidnapping. Her life was in danger after her rescue which meant cutting all ties with her former friends and her family. But when one night goes horribly wrong, all the hiding is for nothing and the only person who may be able to help her is supposed to be dead. Jeremy promised if she ever needed help, just call and he would answer, no questions asked. If she was supposedly dead too, is it possible that he may still answer?

That would be a resounding yes! Complicating matters further, her trouble stems from the murder of Senator Harris' son, the same senator who us now running SBG. Cappy hesitates to tell anyone on the team how he and Michelle really met as self preservation kicks in. Old directives to never reveal any details of life prior to SBG are still fresh in his mind, and the horrifying conditions surrounding that initial meeting don't help ease his mind.

As the investigation into the murder continues, bits and pieces of the past are slowly revealed. There were all sorts of twists and turns that kept me hooked as I tried to put all the pieces together, and Cappy's reticence to share starts to impede things in a big way. But through it all, the connection between him and Michelle was undeniable. It was very easy for me to like both these characters. Jeremy ticked all the hot, caring, protective alpha male boxes for me, and although Michelle went through a horrific ordeal that gave her the right to collapse into a screaming mess 10 times over, she came out the other side a survivor determined to live life again. As the tension built between them, the slow burn was as torturous for me as it was for them but the payoff was so worth it!

So as the 2nd team member goes down like a domino, I am already looking forward to the next book in the series! Romeo and Magician's story looks like it will be fun, but I think I am looking forward to Talon's story the most. I really need to know what turned him into such an epic douchebag and I am hoping for one hell of a redemption story for him! Somehow it seems like the biggest jerks have the best stories and fall the hardest. In the meantime, if you haven't gotten acquainted with this series yet, I recommend it!

This is the second book in the series, I was lucky enough to have read both on Netgally, each book can be read as a standalone but much better if you read them in order. I have loved the first book and the author didn’t let me down with this book. It is a wonderful outstanding series that I totally love. As is with Ms. Depaul’s style it starts off with a bang and keeps on throughout the book why it keeps you on the edge holding your breath waiting for the next shoe to drop. She brings back some wonderful characters that you can keep up with and brings in a few new ones. She keeps the book moving at a very fast pace with danger and suspense as she keeps you on the edge to see where she takes the plot.

I fell in love with Cappy in book one was so glad to see he got his own story. He is alpha all the way but has such a caring heart. It breaks my heart that he has to watch his family from far away he has such love for them. The woman he helped on the day he was to have died comes back in an usual way. This is one woman he could never forget. When she needs help he puts it all on the line to find her and help her. It was great to learn of his past and how he came to be with this unit.

Michelle just broke my heart with her story, the loss of her family. Cappy and her have so much in command it is no wonder they can’t forget about the other. She can’t forget the day he helped her that he said call if she was in danger he would come no question asked. Then he died she is on the run again and wishes so much that she could call him. She has kept his number which is worn with her all these years. Is he really dead or is he like her still out there under another name? If she called the number would he answer? So many unanswered questions she is running for her life…..

The author has such wonderful characters that stay with you as you finish the book. I just love the Delta Squad and what they stand for. Depaul has become one of my favorite authors in no time at all. These are characters that you can relate to, they are normal people on a mission undercover with no past and doesn’t look like much future just taking it one day at a time bring bad people down. I have no trouble at all believing this could happen it is a very believable story with an outstanding plot. As with the first book I have made this my favorite read of the week….I look forward to more from this author. Be sure to pick up Exchange of Fire the first book and this new one Shadow of Doubt just plan on holding on to your seat as the author takes you on a fast pace ride of your life for the hunt of who done it and catching them why saving an innocent.

Since this is only book two then I have high hopes for the remainder of the series.
Shadow of Doubt is a ride that will push and pull you along with it as it runs amok across your kindle or as the pages flip through your fingers.
It was a smart move on the author’s part to switch things up from the scenarios that we encountered in book one, it ensured that Shadow of Doubt had its own pace and it held true to what it has to say.
This is not just a story of romance and relationship it has a tougher edge to it, an undercurrent of mystery and right from the get-go, we are left looking for more from Michelle and Jeremy. Having been part of the team that rescued a battered Michelle from hell years earlier – I think he always knew that she would be back in his life, I mean when he gave her his name and number all those years ago – he made sure she knew that he would be there if she needed him again – it was just a matter of waiting for the call.
But their next meeting though is not until significantly later than I had hoped and neither of them are willing to take what they can see at face value.
I was intrigued by the events that the author wove through the story, there was a little bit of everything and I have to say that what I liked best what the connection between Jeremy and Michelle.
Although they fought what they knew they were feeling inside, I mean a blind man could see there was no running away from it but damn did they take their sweet time getting together.
Michelle’s past can be described as having been painful at best and at its very worst it could be positively described as heart-breaking but she is a tough cookie and is prepared to fight what tries to hold her back in her determination to be the woman she wants. It is not all plain sailing but there is no keeping her down – and I thought that was a powerful message to send – life is a series of events that may shape you but doesn’t define you!
Jeremy is a fighter in every sense of the word, this military colossus has his head screwed on but that is not to say that it is cloud free, he battles demons on a daily basis and keeps his heart under lock and key but it takes mental strength to be able to do what he does day in day out, people’s lives depend on him and his ability to isolate his feelings- but is this a trait he has mastered too well?
The group and the guys made for this being a phenomenal read- I loved it. I loved the pace and flow of the story, the fact that I had to learn to expect the unexpected and that the two of them made me wait until they eventually got to where they needed to be.
Waiting with baited breath for book 3

Hero worship or rescue complex? Oh no, their relationship so much more than that. Cappy and Michelle had an instant connection from the first time they met. It wasn't the best of circumstance, but it was obvious that the connection was strong.

That's definitely an anticipated read for me and I cannot wait!

Do you like books packed with action, intrigue, mystery? How about ones with great characters and romance? How about a book you can completely lose yourself in? Then Shadow of Doubt, the second book in the SCG series by P.A. DePaul is a book you’ll want to read.

I missed out on the first book and in a series, sometimes that can spell disaster. Not a chance here! I get that most of the characters have shared history (Probably from the first book) but the author has presented it in a way that I easily caught on and I never felt lost. Cappy and Michelle were pretty awesome. Both with some pretty tragic history, especially Michelle. It wasn’t easy to watch her go through PTSD but it was endearing to see Cappy help her through her episodes. Kudos to the author for allowing her character to develop into her empowerment without having her PTSD magically go away. There is a natural development of their relationship, despite all the crisis’s they go through. Their HEA was all I could wish for. The secondary characters were amazing. No fillers here! They played such a great part I would love to see them all get their own stories.

As for the story itself, it was great. I usually don’t go for military stories. They usually contain the same guns, bad guys, workaholic, yada, yada, yada pieces that really don’t excite me. Even though it had the military some aspects it wasn’t enough to bore me. Instead, I found this action packed story hit the ground running luring me in from the beginning. Lots of twists and surprises had me completely engaged. Although I kept thinking why did everybody keep gunning for this poor girl? What could Michelle have done to piss off so many people! The reveals and the whys were fairly complex once I find out what everything was revolving around. Okay maybe I would have figured it out a little earlier had I read the first book. But that’s okay, I still enjoyed the not knowing the story provided.

This is my first book by P.A. DePaul. Gotta say, I really enjoyed it. Ms. DePaul has a way of grabbing the reader’s attention and holding it until the very end. I’m actually excited to know that there will be more books in the series. This is definitely a book and author, worth recommending.

I was introduced to this author and series by Anna over at Herding Cat & Burning Soup. She had such good things to say about it, that I had to check out the first book in the series myself. I really enjoy strong female characters and one who is a sniper seemed a good fit. I liked the book, and was excited to see book 2 come available on Netgalley.

This book picks up shortly after the end of Exchange of Fire. This time are heroine is from the civilian world and the hero is Cappy, head of Delta Squad. Michelle was rescued from being tortured by a Columbian Cartel 6 years ago. Rescued by Captain Jeremy "Cappy" Malone, the same night his entire team is killed in a car bomb at the cartel compound. Cappy went into the SBG, Michelle into Witness Protection. Cappy had given Michelle his number and told her if she ever needed him, he would come, no questions asked. And with her being the number one suspect in the death of a senator's son, she needs him.

There were several times that I shed tears in this book. Michelle has been through a horrifying experience and her scars aren't just skin deep. Cappy thinks he's not good enough for her, what with all the members of his team dying that night and his survivor's guilt. These are two broken people who somehow miraculously fit together and make each other better. Their journey towards acceptance of themselves is skillfully intertwined with the overall story arc.

Bad guy Victor returns, still pulling strings and manipulating events to his benefit. But we also get to see more in-depth into the other members of Delta Squad and Senator Bob. There is a definite plan in place for the overall story arc, and each individual book gives us a bit more to puzzle over how it will eventually end up.

This book spoke to me much more than the first one. I think with the characters and their personalities in place, more time could be spent on their interpersonal dynamics and how they relate to one another versus the outside world. There was less world building and more character building. I strongly suggest starting with book 1 for the complete experience and background. This was a 4 star read for me.

Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Intermix for the opportunity to read and review the book.

Leigh's review posted on Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

I will say it up front…I like my books with a lot of sex in them. The fact that the relationship between the hero and heroine was mostly foreplay until nearly the end of the book is the only negative comment I can make here, because the lack of action in the bedroom was more than made up for by the edge of your seat drama that Jeremy and Michelle found themselves in while they tried to prove Michelle’s innocence in a murder investigation where she is the prime suspect.

Jeremy’s protective attitude towards Michelle, a captive he rescued years before, and Michelle’s hero worship of the former Green Beret that saved her life, provides the perfect setting for this story. It was smart, sexy and a lot of fast paced cloak and dagger fun.

This book was chock full of characters, all of whom I loved. While the focus of this story was on Jeremy and Michelle’s growing attraction, there were plenty of supporting people to get to know. As members of an elite black ops squad, the entire group were funny, snarky, sarcastic, loving and protective of one another. Their interplay with one another was probably my favorite part. While I did have some confusion at first with the code names/real names and their real roles/cover roles, it didn’t stop me from enjoying the story and getting thoroughly enmeshed it what was going on.

I didn’t realize this was part of an existing series when I first started the book, and coming in on the second book in a series, I was afraid I would be a bit lost. I will admit that there were points where I felt I would have a better grasp on the overall picture if I had read the first book, but for the most part, this was indeed a stand alone and I was still able to get a full picture of most of the characters through this story itself.

The SBG series reminds me a lot of Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries, just without the BDSM elements. There is the same group dynamic, the same colorful personalities, and a wonderful story that keeps you on the edge of your seat with these dangerous men and women.

photo my thoughts_zpsfejxs2wf.jpg I liked this book but not all aspects. I like Cappy and his loyalty and his treatment of woman. Michelle for him was it and he felt strong towards her but I didn’t like his conflict over her. It was too much at times. He kept having to fight himself and her and it just was hard to watch. Talon loved him he had a dry wit. I didn’t like Wraith and her timing to want to talk to him. I like the storyline and how it all intertwined together and helped forward the plot. I liked the Senator and his plight and how he supported the new way this group should have lives. He was understanding even when he was in pain. Athough he did cause alot of grief he went through alot as well. I despised as we all should Victor and his assassin. Seriously can you be any crueler. Even Cruella deVille had sappy moments them not so much. They added the element that was needed to keep you intrigued as to what new obstacle would be put in Cappy and Michelle’s way. Michelle had her moments. I loved her strength but at times her stubbornness was a detriment. She had character and it showed. She was understanding and smart but she also had compassion. Her love for Cappy knew no bounds but they had so much to overcome mainly Cappy and his resistance and trying to stay alive. When they did come together it was amazing and wonderful. I liked the whole ruse of Michelle to lure out the fly to the web idea. How this was a decoy and plotted without the puppet master of the assassin knowing of the double revenge. I love all the intrigue behind all the plotting and wondering why and what would happen next. The writing was great but there were areas where not so much detail was needed. The flashbacks sometimes could be kept to less detail. They were great and help you understand more of the characters just sometimes to drawn out. This was a good story of the coming together of Michelle and Cappy, the changing of the guard and how life would be for the delta squad, letting go of guilt and the past and living for the future. It was the mystery of revenge and death. A intriguing book that had you on pins and needles with all the plot twists and wondering until the revealing at the end.
