So first... Pay up or we put him down? Majority of vets will hold on to a stray and look for an owner not just euthanize on the spot. Nothing like making your heroine instantly unlikable! Next, No vet would leave a dog, even unconscious, on a table without supervision. I laughed pretty hard when I read that she recommended the Golden Retriever be groomed every 6 weeks by a professional. Yes, they do need to be brushed quite often but I can tell you all the Goldens (including the one I owned) didn't ever really need a professional groomer as long as you were brushing them and clipping their nails. OK to go on past my Vet/Dog issues.

The hero disappears no calling or texting over and over, has another woman that he is just using for her father and for sex and seems to be a bit shady all around. The heroine is one of those women that jump to conclusions, woe is me, I get so depressed because this man I just met hasn't called in the past two hours since I last saw him times.

I have to stop now because I get irritated all over again. I wish the sex had saved it just a little bit but while it was fairly graphic it was boring and cookie cutter.

This was good. I enjoyed the drama of their respective careers. The subterfuge and scheming Jon had to do to stop development in the canyon was interesting, not to mention the whole paternity question that niggled. Erin' s veterinary practice and woes with the ever-bitchy, ever-spoiled Megan was fun and I sort of wanted more about Megan, like a show-down that really put her in her place.

But honestly, I didn't feel a real love-connection between Jon and Erin, I felt like she was too icy and even though her reservations about being with him were valid and justified, I still thought of her as having a big stick up her butt. She was cold and rude to the point where I couldn't see why he was attracted to her. She was an angry mess.

Despite the fact that it was well-written, the M/C' s didn't connect so I can't really love it.

This was a DNF for me which rarely happens. The plot nor character development worked for me so I'm waving my white flag here. Just never connected to it.

Erin Timms finds herself starting her life over in the small town of Sunshine, Colorado. She's a vet and after a breakup with her ex she's left Dallas, Texas and is trying small town life, which as she comes to experience is different, very different. She encounters Jon Miles one evening when he brings a stray dog he's just hit with his car, now Jon's like the perfect man, well on the surface anyway, he's tall, unbelievably good looking, rich and to top it off he's got a fantastic body with a tattoo, see the cover for the full image....wow. She's obviously instantly attracted to him, I mean she is female and breathing, so. Now the attraction is not just one way and what follows is a romance, a hot in places romance about two people who've both been hurt and betrayed by people in the past.
Sounds good yes it does...but..well firstly, I'm not really sure where to start, I was attracted to this book originally due to the cover and I liked the blurb so I put it on my kindle but I have to say it wasn't the book I was expecting, now I'd quickly scanned the blurb, as you do just to see if I'd like it I didn't really pay attention to names so when Jon walks in carrying a dog and we get a description I'm thinking, ok this is him but then he's on the phone "I know, Babe.....No I'm coming right now.....okay, love you, too." I thinking no, no this can't be the main guy, he's awful I even stopped reading to go back and check the blurb for the name of the main guy and yes it's him, he's also rich, drives a BMW and I just didn't like him and this was, for me the main problem with this book I know he's given a good cause, saving the town but I just didn't like him, he wasn't what I expected or wanted, he uses people and no I don't believe the end justifies the means not when people and feelings are involved.
Also the story is told in first person, alternating between the two main characters which was a little confusing at first.
I've given 3 stars because I liked Erin, the whole small town with it's characters and past.
One thing to mention is in the blurb it's states this is a red-hot romance and yes it is the sex scenes are very descriptive and this book is not suitable for anyone under 18.

I ended up enjoying "Stray" more than I thought I would. Not only did I love the story, I ended up loving both Erin and Jon, two well-developed characters. All throughout I couldn't help but root for them both just hoping they would have their HEA. What really stood out about the characters was how realistic they came across. Even for two people who are 30, it was a learning curve. Jon had to learn how his actions affected Erin and a few others, knowing what he did was wrong, and learn what was really important to him. As for Erin, I loved that she stood up for herself, not only with Jon, but also with her friends. The sexcapades between the two, though only a few, were definitely hot. I really appreciated how the author brought them together in the end as their relationship took time and patience to reach their HEA. So unlike so many other novels where all is forgiven the very next day, with instant love and let's get married crap. With a few twists and turns thrown in, "Stray" is a sweet and simple story that brought a smile to my face, as well as a couple of laughs which is always a good thing. Surprisingly, "Stray" is available for free on Amazon in Kindle format so I suggest if you want to read it, get it now. I look forward to reading more works by this wonderful author.

Jon is bowled over by Erin and is definitely interested. Unfortunately both parties have a lot of unresolved issues, which keeps them apart. So there lots of unresolved angst from Erin, which the Sierra brings to life all the emotion and especially Erin’s evening with BOB to life very realistically. Wow Jon voice is brought to life dripping with sex appeal by Jeffrey that has all the female listeners sit up and  take notice. The star of the story for me was Max the golden retriever who was the Stray in the title or was  he.
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Sierra Kline. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

2 Souls & A Dog, Seeking Love & Redemption!

Stray is a standalone, by Natasha Stories.

Jeffrey Kafer & Sierra Kline narrates.

HEA, No cliffhangers!

This is a standalone title. Read at your liesure.

Length: 7 hrs and 32 mins

Content Warning:
SEX?: Yes. Both in thoughts and actions, so if you do not like sex, then you should avoid.

♥ Story ♥

I think just about every character in this story is a Stray in one way or another. The story takes place in Sunshine, Colorado which has a small town/touristy vibe. There is deep history that is at the root of things. A lot of closet to shake out skeletons.

Jon ❤ Erin

Jon Miles' father is the one who betrayed the the town of Sunshine, but Jon is the one paying the price. He has inherited his father's shares of the company and wants to undo the wrongs to prevent more damage to the local area. He knows it's not going to be easy, but things get tricky as the secrets start to spill out.

Erin Timms is trying to make her dreams come true, despite her current and past set backs. She is trying to save up to buy the Vet clinic she works for, but the boss's daughter is trying her patience and making her question her decisions. Jon brings an injured stray to Erin at the clinic and all of their lives are forever changed, including the dog.

The large number of subplots are a doubled edged sword to me. They are set up, explained, then solved, nothings left "unanswered". I just need more! Just a little bit, to make it feel complete. Its not a biggie kind of issue, just keeps it from being a five stars listen for me. I'm going to forever wonder about Minerva's health and if Mrs. P. ever found Maharajah?! Not to mention the question poised at the end as to how? Can't really say more but when you get to the Epilogue, you'll know what I'm talking about. Doesn't change the outcome of anything, it just perplexes the mind!

♥ Author ♥

This was my first listen/read by Natasha Stories, and won't be my last. Great characters. Max totally stole the show!

♥ Narrator ♥

Stray has Two(2) Narrators: Jeffrey Kafer & Sierra Kline.

Jeffrey Kafer was great. Both with voices as well as the general story narration. He did drop the ball a couple of times with Mrs. P. if she was sharing the scene with Jon. Jeffrey is an excellent performer with a long list of titles. This is not my first, nor my last. Several of his titles are on my wish-list.

This was my first listen by Sierra Kline. She was great at evoking the emotions. I would listen to more titles performed by her.

♥ Audio Production ♥

The original speed was not consistant. Some chapters seemed slow with others being a bit to fast. I ended up settling on @ 1.05 speed. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story. I loved the things about the main character that I connected with, like the fact that she watched reruns of The Big Bang Theory to cheer herself up. Then there was the part where she took care of her own needs, and we actually got that scene with her vibrator in more detail than we usually get in a book. Not a bad thing, just not what you see in these types of books. Usually you just find out that they used one, but it doesn't go into the detail as if it was a sex scene, which it basically is. I was afraid the book would be one that made me cry, since it started with an injured dog, but after that first part, which is what led to our two characters meeting in the first place, everything else with the dogs was sweet and I loved it!

There was the usual part of the story where the two didn't actually talk to each other, which would have totally cleared up so many issues. The fact that Jon was basically cheating, but not in how he felt, well I feel the way Erin handled that was realistic and not at all what is normally too quick to forgive and move past what he did. But then the way that Jon went about trying to win her back was perfect in my book as well. He didn't expect what he did to be perfect, but he did it because it was right, not just because it would hopefully win her back. Especially since he didn't even get forgiveness from who he was trying to get it from. In the end I loved the way the story went, I enjoyed the little epilogue, and I will probably read or listen to other books by this author if I get the chance.

Disappointing.

Erin's a vet in Sunshine CO that is a small town that is home to a resort that the locals have a love-hate relationship with. Jon wants to save the town from another hotel being built at the resort but takes some nefarious tactics to get there. Jon and Erin meet after he brings in a stray dog that's been hit by a car. And it doesn't end there. We learn Jon has a particular connection to the resort, is dating the daughter of the CEO there, and that he has plans to oust the CEO in order to preserve what's left of the town from overdevelopment. Then there's another plotline that has to do with his parents... and I'm not convinced that was even necessary. And then there's the vet assistant who's the daughter of the owner of the clinic where Erin works... I'm not sure what the point was in having this character in the story except to make Erin's life at the clinic harder... which didn't exactly move the story foward.

I didn't find much about Jon attractive except how his outward appearance was described... he's manipulative, usury, whiny and a cheat, even if the woman he was seeing was awful, two wrongs do not make a right. How is this attractive and why would Erin want to have a relationship with him?

I didn't come away with a good feeling after reading this. The HEA was ridiculous and I've never read a more rushed ending than this one...but it was also because I couldn't understand the attraction Erin has for Jon.

3-stars on Amazon.com for "It's Okay"

Just Okay.
This story is told in first person, alternating between the two main characters.

Since there is no warning in the book description, readers should know that this book contains very graphic sex scenes, which were okay, although I did find myself skimming over them after the first one.

The heroine, Erin, was a vet and newcomer in a small town, escaping from a relationship gone bad. I liked her and her innocent nature. I did enjoy the whole background story of the small town, various veterinary situations, her spoiled vet tech and the local politics and characters.

The hero, Jon, was a mystery (no spoilers here). I did not like him, and I didn't like that Erin would go for a guy like that. But we should all forgive and move on. Except, Jon does it again (the whole Facebook thing) in an improbable scenario (but hey, this is fiction). And when Erin lets him off the hook for that...no. Just no. Jon has a major character flaw that Erin is going to completely ignore. I will concede that I wasn't interested in the sex scenes because I just didn't feel the connection between the two characters, or rather, I just didn't approve of it.

And then the author uses the epilogue to wrap everything up in a tidy bow. Almost silly.

Erin is the town's new vet. Working late one Friday night, Jon brings in a dog that was hit by a car. He begins coming in regularly to check on the dog and take him to PT as a result of his injuries. Jon wants to go out with Erin and asks her each time but she refuses because she knows he has a girlfriend. Finally she gives in after hearing news about her ex boyfriend and one of her friends.

Jon is there on business trying to save the town from a big resort development. He's only dating Ashleigh for this purpose.

SPOILERS....READ NO FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE THEM...

Erin goes out with Jon the first time and sleeps with him the same night knowing he has a girlfriend. Yet when Ashleigh shows up at her vet to tell her to back off, Erin gets mad at Jon. Jon told her he had broken up with Ashleigh. Erin wouldn't even give him a chance to explain. And then when he does, she still refuses to date him because he cheated.....which is exactly what she did the first night. I genuinely liked Jon and considering the circumstances, I liked what he was trying to do for the town. I thought Erin selfish and a bit judgmental when she was guilty of cheating too.

The book was okay and does have a happy ending.

This wasn't the best book I've ever read but not the worst either. It came across to me as kind of one-dimensional and left me thinking "meh...". I didn't feel connected to either one of the characters and didn't really care what happened to them. The storyline was mildly engaging, enough for me to actually finish the book but not enough to keep me from starting a few new books when I got bored with "Stray". It wasn't excruciating enough reading this for me to avoid this author but not enjoyable enough for me to immediately download samples of her other books. The only thing I did feel strongly about was the cover, which was YUMMY!!! ; P

This book was pretty awesome, I really liked the story, the characters were well described, the story line had some interesting twists and unexpected turns. Jon had a very tough past and was trying to figure out his life, he grew up a lot during the story. Erin was very good at keeping her morals, she didn't accepted less than what she deserved, she also got to find out a new life for herself. I loved the book, even though it had some grammar mistakes, but I definitely enjoyed the whole story. I recommend it to anyone who likes romance, but without being boring or predictable.

Where does Stray rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I don't compare one book to the next. Unless I were to compare it to other books that this author has written. Since this is the first book that I've listened/read of Ms. Stories, I have no other book to compare it to.

What does Sierra Kline and Jeffrey Kafer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
They both do a great job at bringing the characters they portray to life. Ms. Kline has a way of adding in accents and changing tones that was perfect when trying to think what the female characters would be like. I certainly would not have been able to do that if I were reading this book on my own. If I ever came across Jon somewhere else, I don't think that I could picture any other voice but Mr. Kafer's. Ms. Kline and Mr. Kafer were the perfect pair to keep me entranced with this story. I can see myself looking for other books that they have worked on together.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
If I were to consider it an extreme reaction it would be how I felt about Megan. Were you to look up the word brat in the dictionary there would be a picture of her. The only thing is that she can distract you from the actual story that's going on. She has that type of personality where she's looking for attention - always acts like she's entitled because of her parents. There were times that I just couldn't help the eye rolls. If I were to come up with a disappointment it would have to be the amount of time that Max makes an appearance in the story. It also had me wishing I had a little cuddle buddy to snuggle with as I listen to the story.

Any additional comments?
This is one of those stories where your reading and listening experiences would be totally different. I have a copy of the book but after listening to the story I don't know if I could go back and read the book again without thinking of our narrators. They are the voices for the characters that Ms. Stories has created. They show us the emotions that the characters are feeling.

At times we get pulled away from the true story because of what Jon is trying to do and how it's affecting Erin's job. Then we have the scenes where Megan makes an appearance. She has a strong personality that requires our scrutiny. Then we have what's going on in Jon's life. It's like we go off in different directions and need something to pull us back in. You have to be careful when the story seems to go off point that you don't get distracted and stop listening to what is being said. On the whole, this was a good listening experience.

I voluntarily reviewed an Audiobook copy of this book.

Erin's working as a vet in the small resort town of Sunshine, Colorado, hoping to earn enough to buy the business and settle there for good. When Jon comes in with a neglected golden retriever that he accidentally hit with his car, Erin and Jon are immediately attracted to each other. But both have baggage they can't shake. News of Erin's jerky ex-boyfriend comes back to haunt her, and Jon's fake girlfriend won't let him go so easily.

Any book with a sweet dog in it is a winner for me, and I loved the happy go lucky golden retriever that brought our main couple together. The descriptions of the vet practice were interesting, and I liked the small town of Sunshine, it took on a personality of its own. The secondary characters like Doc and Mrs. P really added something to the story.

The main characters were well developed and the plot full of drama. Erin was a bit weak in the beginning. We get to see all the ferocity and anger inside her head, but it took her a while to show it. Jon was a hottie and he knew it, perfect on the outside, but with some major flaws. It was a steamy read with explicit scenes.

The narration was great, with a different narrator to perform Erin and Jon's chapters. I've listened to Jeffrey Kafer before and enjoyed his narration, but Sierra Kline was new to me, and I really liked the emotion she brought to Erin's point of view. The switch from male to female voice in a new chapter was never jarring, their voices worked really well together. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

AUDIOBOOK edition

I have mixed feelings about this story and its characters. It worked because it has a plot, intrigue and conflict, characters that I liked and some I wanted to smack into next Sunday. I liked Jon, despite him doing some questionable things, I felt sorry for him after finding out his backstory, the guy couldn't get a break. He gets quite a few shocks in a short time. And the dog... Max was great, glad Erin was able to save him.
There was a lot of drama, a bit much for my taste, small town gossip and entitled rich girls but I guess it added to the conflict in the story. Erin didn't help either, she is not among my faves either, a bit wimpy and a lot gullible. I am not a fan of weak female leads. - 4 stars

Mr. Kafer is among my fave narrators and it is always a pleasure to listen to. Love the voices, Jon and especially Doc. My first listen from Ms. Kline who for the most part did ok and had some good variations for the many characters, I found that for Erin some parts sounded overdone to me or overly soft for the situation. - 4 stars

My Thoughts on Stray

This book had a lot of firsts for me. First time reading a book from this author. First audio with Jeffrey Kafer. And first time experiencing a one 180 about a main character.

I found that for my first book by Natasha Stories it was a good one. It held my attention. It had good twists and character building. It was just a very enjoyable story and I want to check out more by her in future.

Both narrators did a great job, and this being my first audio by Jeffrey Kafer, I was very happy with it. I absolutely want to listen to more audio books by both of them.

While I ended up enjoying this book and the writing was really good, I wasn't sure if I was going to like the leading man at first. His behavior was so conflicting as to what his true character was as some of his actions seemed unforgivable. But I guess it's also the mark of a good author that by the end of the story I'd firmly landed on being a fan of him and felt he'd really redeemed himself.

This is the 1st book by this author and these narrators that I have heard. I can say that if it wasn't for the narrators, I'm not sure how quickly I would of gotten through the book reading it. I didn't feel a real connection with the two main characters, Erin and Jon. There were a few things in the story that I felt were off, especially when it came to Max. I enjoyed the location of the story and was able to visualize the mountains. There were a lot of surprises so that helped, but it was kind of slow moving for a while. It didn't feel like things were going anyplace, but the two narrators did such an awesome job keeping the story alive it kept me listening and I found myself not able to turn it off. The overall sound quality of the the book was great. I will be looking forward to listening to more by these narrators. I will read something else from this author because overall this story did have some good plot twist that I enjoyed and didn't expect.

Jon and Erin met when he took an injured dog to her clinic. Erin was not impressed with the handsome, well dressed stranger when he rushed in after closing time w a stray dog that he had hit. Jon is insta-lust w the cute vet and asks her out...what’s the problem? He kinda-sorta has a gf...yep, he’s been going out w the CEO’s daughter to pacify her dad, while he’s secretly garnering votes to oust said CEO. Jon believes that the end justifies the means since he disagrees w the current course of the resort in the ski town. Meanwhile, Erin is dealing w baggage from her past that leaves her insecure. The drama that ensues is quite entertaining, including the question of paternity of one of our characters. Loved the HEA.

Who’s the Stray?

Erin Timms is just trying to get her life started as a vet by taking over a veterinarian practice in a small town in Colorado. All she wanted to do was the job and earn money to buy the practice and pay her student loans off. Jon Miles is a business man who arrives at the clinic late one night after closing with an injured dog. Erin is smitten at once with both the man and the dog but when she finds out that Jon ran over the dog she’s not to happy with him. She also learns he’s got a woman waiting for him at the resort. The receptionist that is working for her just happens to be the clinic’s owner daughter, who’s a pain in the ass. As Jon notices the vet he catches his own kind of feelings and is soon embroiled in trying to hurry up his plans for the town. In the end things come to a head with everyone involved in more ways than one.

Save the town that hates you. . .

Overall 4 out of 5 stars
Performance 4 out of 5 stars
Story 4 out of 5 stars

This was a listen that surprised me and delighted me all at the same time. I got more from Erin and her strength and convictions. I found something to look for in Jon. The dynamics of the town-folks and the resort people was interesting enough to have you wanting to know how it all went down. The narrators did justice for this read and kept me hanging on to the very last words.

Both narrator did a good job. I found the audio to be smooth and complementary to the story.

I loved the narration by Sierra Kline and Jeffrey Kafer. They really brought the characters and the story to life. The highest compliment vi can pay a narrator is that I forget I am listening to them and get lost in the story. That totally happened here.

I really enjoyed this story. And I have to say that Max steals every scene he is in. I enjoyed watching the characters and how they grew and changed throughout the book. The way their relationships grew and changed and the things that they got up to. I also enjoyed the little sideplots. All in all a great listen.

I definitely didn't feel a passionate connection between what were supposed to be the love interests in this story. Character development was just okay, and the suspense between the characters wasn't up to par for a romance. In addition, the male character came across more feminine than he did macho. Author never really got inside his head and it showed. Overall, it was just a soso story. I could have left this one on the shelf and never missed it.

Having the first instance of your male lead's POV basically start with him being so distracted thinking about sexually dominating a woman that he almost hits a deer - when his introduction to the story was bringing a dog to the vet that he hit with his car.... no thank you.
